Great stop for a quick and inexpensive dinner! Donna's has been on my list since the sad loss of Peck's Arcade. The space is still warm and cozy and intimate. We walked right in at about 630 on a Friday night and were seated immediately. We ordered a couple of drinks. Although I was put off at the shape of the martini glass, it was actually really good and used high quality olives. We decided to go for a pizza and it was the perfect dinner for two to share, we didn't even want anything else. We ordered the brocc but asked for no tomatoes. It was delicious and cooked perfectly! I loved the balance of the garlic, bitter broccoli and the char of the crust. A quick dinner for two at less than $50 works for me! I really enjoy the upstairs Tavern space at Donna's. The space itself is a cool mix of exposed brick and beams with some nice comfy booths and a neat two sided bar. It makes for a great spot to grab some drinks and food and stay awhile, whether with friends or on a date. I enjoy their cocktail menu, it's well curated and executed great. The pizza is super solid for the area, I like the chewiness of the crust and the slight char on the bake. The housemade ricotta with strawberry and black pepper agrodolce is my favorite appetizer, particularly for the pizza bianca it comes with for dipping -- basically a puffed up fried pizza dough that resembles an Italian pita -- the ricotta itself with the strawberry is a nice balance of sweet and savory and has great texture. Service is prompt and courteous making for an all-around excellent place to spend some time. read more

Well, we ordered chicken parm dinners, the pasta we got riggies, meat sauce was ok, and drowned the chicken making it Soggy, pasta undercooked, with it being a dinner, no salad or soup is offered. So a thumbs down for us. Will not be returning. read more

We ordered a Ceasars salad, small pizza, and spaghetti with red sauce. Salad and pizza came out. 20 minutes later the pasta was ready, but it had grated parm on it. Menu never mentioned parm. The person who ordered the pasta is vegan. So it was sent back. 30 minutes later we got the pasta to go, except it wasn't spaghetti and it had ricotta on it. Everytime we asked staff the status of the order we were met with indifference, as if their mistake was our faulr.. When we canceled the order the manager came over with excuses. The lack of customer service is unacceptable. When an order is wrong, that order goes to the front of the line, but not at Donna's. The fact that the second order was the wrong pasta and had cheese when we specifically said no cheese seemed spiteful. The food may be good, but it doesn't make up for the indifference and incompetence. read more

I've been here twice now. Food is delicious. I got the chicken parm twice now. It's thin and crispy and delicious. The sauce on the spaghetti is very flavorful. I tried the garlic knots and they were delicious, however, they were very slightly undercooked. I still enjoyed them a lot though. I tried my friend's pizza and that was also delicious. The service is friendly. One star off for the value though. It's pricey (again, it's delicious!) but I feel like most places these days at least give you two pieces of chicken. Fantastic food, service and ambiance. We love this spot! The pizzas have thin crust expertly cooked in the pizza oven with tasty burnt spots and umami toppings. The pork chop is insanely unctuous as are the ribs and the chicory salad is fresh, refreshingly crunchy and flavorful. The drinks are also delicious and creative. What a find!!! read more

$14 for a mocktail mojito. When I double checked with the waitress they said that it was correct price. They are charging the same amount for their cocktails as mocktails. The mocktails also came out after the appetizers. Gluten free pizza and appetizers were really good. Would go back but definitely not getting or would recommend the mocktails. read more

Met some friends here on a Friday night for dinner and drinks. I loved ambiance of this place and the lighting. The owner was walking around personally came over to greet us and welcome me to the restaurant. This was my first time dining here. I ordered the Barback pizza which was absolutely amazing. One of my friends ordered the bucatini pasta and he said it was delicious and ate all of it. All of the pasta is homemade and the pizzas are wood fired. I had the bartender make me a strawberry pineapple margarita and I absolutely enjoyed it. I do wish our waitress was more knowledgeable and personable, I asked if chicken could be added on my pizza and it was an absolute no, not sure why this couldn't be done as they have dishes that have chicken in them. However, I am happy to report that my initial trepidation turned out to be unfounded and I had a lively meal at Donna's Italian. The pizzas are good here. Went here with a date this past Friday night. I had never been inside the restaurant before and was immediately fascinated with it's uniqueness...the restaurant itself actually connects to multiple establishments, including Little Pecks, a wine bar, a garden/patio area, and more. Rather than sitting across from each other, we were seated side by side up against a window that looked into the kitchen. You could watch the chef cook, as you waited for your food. Our server, Clare, was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. After dinner, she encouraged us to wander around the building and make ourselves at home. You could tell that our server was proud to work here and viewed her teammates as family. I had the caprese salad and the Focaccia bread. The caprese salad was the best I have ever had. My date ordered spaghetti & meatballs and enjoyed every minute of it. I really cannot say enough good things about this establishment. I have mixed feelings about Donna's Italian... but I was left with the feeling that although the dishes were good, it just didn't match the cost. In other words, I didn't feel the value, so would be reticent to return. Wonderful location, nice space. Donna's is a small eatery that shares the space with a larger group of restaurant(s) perhaps anchored by the Confectionary. There were 3 of us, and not a lot of tables, so we were seated by the kitchen. All good. The waiter was cordial. She suggested a wine, to which I accepted. The wine was average minus, and seemed very young, perhaps even a little too "watery", definitely was not full bodied which is what I asked for. We got the garlic knots appetizer, which were excellent. We got one plate of the spaghetti and meatballs to check the "basics" as we always do with new restaurants, and it was ok, but again, value. We had one pizza and it was good. That's all we got, and upon leaving had to leave $100 for the meal. I enjoyed it, but wasn't "wowed", and the cost of the meal would make me hesitant to come back. I know everything costs more these days, so I am really on the fence on this one, but I am in California much of the year and the price to value in LA or NYC would not have surprised me, but in Troy it seemed a bit expensive for the experience. I think that the wait service was so mediocre that I just didn't feel that it was an overall good experience. Perhaps if I went back on a different night, and was treated like an appreciated customer, it could be different. The ambiance is great. The service was efficient and fine. The food is where it fell apart. There was a little piece of plastic in my caprese salad. It was tasty. I always get scared when there is non food in my food though. Garlic knots were burned black on top and did not taste one bit like garlic. I'm surprised at myself for not sending them back. Barista was very dismissive of concerns and basically stated that she couldn't help me though i had been waiting for 30 mins. Wait staff was really nice and friendly but when we wen to cash out the bartender person was so rude we were really surprised.
