Some of the best Italian food I've eaten in the Capital Region. I've tried many things on the menu. None of them ever disappoint. The atmosphere is welcoming relaxed with easy music that doesn't drown out conversations. A very attentive staff makes you feel like family. The menu has a nice variety of standard Italian dishes and wonderful homemade bread and desserts. The servings are generous enough for taking home for another meal. The food is fantastic but the service is terrible. Twice now I've had waitresses that are great with their other customers but rude to our table, which is the only table with a non-white diner... The waitress with the dark hair and accent didn't give us a drink menu. When asked what we wanted to drink we said we didn't know because we never got a drink menu and she proceeded to stand there impatiently and wait for us to guess what was on the drink menu. When we asked for more bread she took the bread basket that was half full, put two more bread slices in it and threw it on the table. That was the worst service I've ever had. The front of the restaurant looks great but the bathroom's are a disaster. The stall door won't stay closed. You can't even get to the toilet paper. It took me forever just to get some because I have arthritis and the toilet paper is so thin and cheap you can't locate the end and it's stuck up inside the holder. A situation only made worse by the fact the bathroom is the temperature of a walk in cooler. read more

Mercatos is a family run restaurant that has stood the test of time, that makes its own bread, and sauce from scratch as well just about everything on the menu. Mercatos has a loyal local following, high quality and predictable food, and staff that is friendly and knows you as a customer. From start to finish they do a great job making sure you have a pleasurable experience. Everything on the menu is exceptional, but my go to is the Chicken Milanese. The portions are enough to leave you a filling lunch the next day. The drinks are a heavy pour and a great deal. Mercatos is one of our favorite local spots. Recently, we had an awful experience with a waitstaff who should seek another profession. We had to repeat our order three times before she understood. Once our order arrived, it was wrong! Are you kidding me? We were not asking for anything off the menu. She never came by to ask how dinner was or if we needed another drink or a water refill. I had a gift card to pay part of the bill and she charged my credit card for the full amount! Unbelievable. When we arrived home, we realized she had not sent us home with all of our leftovers. We all dined in for the first time at mercato's. To my surprise, it's a very romantic, candle lit, fancy Italian restaurant. SERVICE Our server was super friendly!! He's probably the politest, funnest server that I've ever met. He was so accommodating to our requests and met our expectations. Just like mercato's high food quality, their servers, waiters are top notch professionals carrying the restaurant brand to the highest standards. WHAT WE ORDERED - Shirley temple - Cheese Garlic bread with marinara - Penne bolognese (it wasn't on the menu, but they serve bolognese) - Cavatelli with broccoli and sausage - Pizzaiola linguine This meal did not disappoint at all, we all went home with plenty of leftovers. Their portions was ginormous. I expected to share my bolognese entree with my sister, but Mercato's charges a $6 split fee. Might as well order your own entree. The food was so rich and flavorful, I probably only had 1/4 the penne bolognese n I was so full. They served bread and butter as starters, I was so filled on carbs. The total came it to be $75 for 3 entrees, 1 app, and 2 drinks, so worth the price. read more

We really enjoyed our catered dinner on Saturday night. The chicken piccata was delicious and had the added artichokes and sun dried tomatoes that we requested. The salad was so fresh. The bbq chicken wings were a big hit. The meatballs and sauce were wonderful!! All in all, we were all so happy with the tasty and fresh food. Thank you. We will be back !!! read more

Wow! What a delicious meal we all had. Lobster ravioli, shrimp parm, pasta Alfredo and chicken Gorgonzola. Not one disappointing dish in the bunch. The special winter cocktails were fabulous. I ordered the winter cosmo, but I would like to go back and have a "white Christmas". Staff was very accommodating to our large table and all food was served hot and perfectly prepared. Really 3.5 Stars but rounded up because we have only tried four dishes --no apps, pizzas, or desserts. Second visit here in three month period because I liked the Eggplant Parmesan. Eggplant is sliced thin and dipped in flour, then egg. Excellent. Pasta is not homemade. Sauce is good not great.. My husband's Seafood Combo dish was overpowered by the heavy tomato sauce. We think it would have been better with the alternative white wine sauce listed on the menu. It was not as good as the Seafood Fra Diavolo we have had at other restaurants in area. The bread is served warm and "toasted," but it tasted stale on both visits. The crust crumbles. I wonder what it would taste like at room temp. A decent salad is included in the cost of the entree which is nice. They serve draft Peroni which contributed to the upgrade in stars. The service is good but not great. Sufficient servers but had to ask for refills on water. The 70's music was blaring too loudly until someone must have asked for the volume to be toned down. We think there is better Italian food served in Schenectady. read more

Bad bad bad service, we arrived here in the afternoon around 1:45 we were seated no one was in the restaurant woman took our order then left to sit outside we waited and waited and waited she popped in and told us it takes awhile because it's fresh other people coming in and out going to back of restaurant we waited and waited some more till finally around 2:33 we get out pizza and appetizer at same time what was the point of an appetizer if it came out with pizza. It was strange ownership didn't care workers seemed to enjoy eating fruit outside and taking breaks than helping customers. read more

During a very quick trip to the area we stopped in for dinner at Mercato's lll. The restaurant has a great reputation with the locals and we were in the mood for some good authentic Italian food. For starters we had the calamari. It was tender with a light crispy coating. We loved it. For entrees we both picked comfort food. The chicken parm did not disappoint. The chicken was moist and the light breading did not overwhelm the meat. It had a perfect amount of cheese and sauce. The chicken scaloppini is a must order. It is prepared with artichokes, red pepper, garlic and spinach sautéed in sherry and finished with a small amount of marinara. The combination of flavors is delicious. read more

I ordered the XL Clams Casino Pizza, which was excellent). The counter service was quick. The slices were hot out of the oven, which had a firm chewy thin crust with good tasty sauce and the right amount of mozzarella cheese, soo good! I hate to give a 3 for a restaurant where the food was a 4 to 4 1/2, but the waitress we had performed horrible service. Now it was a group of 17 sitting in the back section, but the restaurant was kind of dead. She took our original drink and food order and brought our drinks out, then went missing for over 45 minutes. When we asked for her I believe they said she was on break? Now with that size group she knew that a 20% gratuity was included with the bill so I don't believe she cared about how unfriendly and poor her service was. Mercato's has become my go to "red sauce" eatery. Friends and I had reserved a table to celebrate two birthday's and a retirement. The staff at Mercato's have always been so accommodating with our group giving us a table in an alcove so we could enjoy our festivities. (We can get a bit noisy with our conversation and laughter.) Group had a little of everything from lasagna, veal parm, eggplant rolatini and antipasto. Try the pizza's, they're wonderful, wings are crispy and staff is attentive. read more

Ok where do I start. The toss salad was 4.99, didn't get much in the salad. We ordered a small pizza. It was a pizza for one. Prices to high for the food we ordered. To top it off, our waitress, B, had NO personality. Never came back to table to check on us or to see if the food was good. Didn't see her till we asked for bill. Probably the best place for pizza and wings in Latham. Good quality food and prepared correctly ie. Asked for crispy wings and got exactly that. Medium wings are real medium and not mild like most places. Pizza actually has some sauce and flavor and toppings. Staff had always been friendly and recognized me after I have not been there for a few month and actually said that they haven't seen me in a while. Looks like a family business. We were introduced to Mercato's III by friends last December. It was under renovation then, but that didn't interfere with a good first impression. This year's visit was an opportunity to treat some other friends from Hyde Park, NY. Our group of four included our friend who had recently retired from the CIA (admissions & student aid). But she knows what is demanded by her former employer re: food, drink, & service. We arrived around 5:15pm and the restaurant had few customers, but would fill half the tables when we left at 7:30pm. Now to the wine & food. Eggplant Rolettini ($10.) was prepared correctly and was sufficient for four. Spedinis & chicken wings are also offered. Something for everybody from their extensive wine collection. House wines by the glass $7.00 each. One diner had chicken orzo soup (du jour), one had pasta e fagioli. Dinners come with garden salad & bread. The three dinners were chicken piccata, chicken francaise, & veal parmigiana. All where well prepared, served hot, and brought to the table together. Our entrees were $19.00 each. There was plenty to take home for another time. One tiramisu for dessert. Our waiter was Alija. He was more than helpful and cheerfully met all our requests. And even though this restaurant is in a strip mall, the interior is very comfortable and welcoming. The women did comment on the cleanliness of the restrooms. Total bill for one app, three entrees, five wines, one soup & salad, one dessert was $142.50. So good value with very good food and service. All agreed we will come back. Thank you. read more

The food is quality neighborhood Italian fare. It's not top notch, but a great around the corner weeknight spot. Their order out is often VERY slow and you'll often be waiting a long time after your scheduled pickup. But don't try to over think it. The time you show up late is the time your food was ready early and is now cold. All that aside they are very friendly and kind here. read more

My wife and stopped her last night, kind of last minute. To be honest, we were a little hesitant because we went to Mercato's in Delmar a few months ago and we were not impressed with the atmosphere or the service. We figured we'd try this one and glad we did!! This may very well be our new go-to spot. The moment we walked in the atmosphere blew us away. Very beautiful and relaxing and immediately greeted. We sat in a spacious booth and the waiter was extremely nice and pleasant. He took our drink order and had them to us quickly with bread and butter. We placed an appetizer order and dinner order. Our app (bruschetta) came out within 10mins and was delicious. Dinner came out about 15mins after that. We ordered a small pizza and the sausage and peppers dinner. The food was hot, looked delicious and tasted amazing. Our server was quick to refill our drinks and had a smile the whole time. I'd highly recommend this place to friends and family but only the one in the Latham. As I mentioned before, Delmar was not as good of an experience. read more
