Goodness!!!! What a throw back. I remember shakeys over 50 years ago in the San Gabriel valley with banjo players and baseball teams. Look...the shakeys in upland on foothill is not the same one from 50 years ago...but it rocks! The pizza is a thin crust super savory pizza. I'm not gonna lie, it's a bit pricy BUT worth it. I went to a Shakey's in Riverside about 8 years ago and noticed that it didn't taste anything like Shakey's pizza I remember eating back in the 70's 80's and 90's. They used to have a mozzarella and cheddar blend on their pizza that was their signature taste! I am rarely in the city of Upland but recently I came and stopped at Shakey's for a nice lunch. I was shocked at the service here because most Shakey's are not like this Upland location. The manager was super nice and also I was able to witness an act of kindness when the entire staff came out and sang happy birthday to a young gentleman. It made me feel so happy for this family. It was a nice gesture that I rarely see anymore! The food for lunch was buffet style and everything was fresh and tasty. I came in at 1:00 PM and they stop serving at 2:00 PM so you would have not guessed it by how they were stocking the food! The mojos were cooked perfectly and man that fried chicken was the bomb. It honestly saddens me to write this review, but I do feel the need to write this. Tonight is Friday night. We know that Fridays are always busy. I took my parents and my son out to dinner for Pizza and beer. Yes, there were parties going on, but that did not phase us. My dad and son found a table and sat down while my mom and I waited in line to order our pizza. There were four families ahead of us and we waited our turn as we waited in line. The line grew bigger behind us and not at any time did the server who was taking orders, make any comments to any of us. When my mom and I went to the front of the line we were asked if we were part of a party. We then said no. She then proceeds to say in a loud manner "well then you guys cannot eat here tonight, and we can only do takeout." Now I would have been accepting of this, had she been announcing this as we had walked in but she waited until we were the front of line and there were several families behind us. I said "excuse me, you mean we can't eat here tonight in this pizza parlor because we are not part of a party and even though there are open tables?" She said no there is a 30 minute wait which I had heard her say previously and I had accepted that. She said no you have to take out. I thought it was very rude of her to do that in front of everybody. I then told her you should've explained that in the beginning when we walked in the door. She said well are you gonna order or not? I said absolutely not. It's very rude of you to tell me now that it's take out only when you could've explained that for the beginning Plus, my father and son are sitting at a table that is not reserved for anyone. I don't see the problem, but since you don't want our service, we will leave here tonight and we left. We walked in at 5:15pm. I have been coming here for many many years and never in my life has this ever happened, I don't know if I'll return with a server like that! My coworker and could not decide what to have for lunch, so i suggested Shakey's because of nostalgia. We have not been to Shakey's about 30 years. Not much has changed, they still have all you can eat pizza, chicken, mojos, and salad. They added rice pilaf and rotisserie style chicken. The mojos do not have the same great flavor, but the fried chicken was even better than I remember. Loved the flavorful pepperoni pizza and pan sausage pizza. Overall, we enjoyed the meal and brought us back in history. The price has gone up, but still a value at about $15. read more

We came in today for a family dinner with our kids. When our chicken came out cold, I politely mentioned it to an employee. Luis, the manager came out with the food and made a comment "next time make sure to return all the pieces". Little did I think that they wanted the chicken that was already touched back. I would have gladly taken a replacement of what was in the basket. Luis was implying we were trying to get more chicken, which was never asked for. The comment was unnecessary, judgmental, and very unprofessional. Instead of apologizing or trying to make the situation right, he made it seem like we were in the wrong. Shakey's is an American classic. We came in for the lunch buffet for about $16 per person. With that you get a variety of pizzas, chicken (fried and grilled), salad, sides ... Mojo potatoes! Memories of the Shakey's chain revolve around the consumption of Mojos, and they are just as good as the first time I had them. This location is a little outdated but the staff keeps it clean. The food is not necessarily the greatest, but it is a really good bargain when coming in for lunch. Have not been here for dinner but based on the pizza, would definitely come back. Also looks like they have happy hour deals too with alcohol. The arcade play area is pretty new and is nice entertainment for the kids, big and small.
