I love Shake Shack, and this review is only for this location. Route 17 is a pain in the a$$ always, but I was willing to drive here for Shake Shack. Ample parking in the back, which is very nice. The burgers had a hotdog aftertaste to them. Not sure if they had just made hotdogs on the grill right before my burger, but it was kinda gross to have to smell/taste hotdogs while I ate my cheeseburger - as if my burgers were infused with a hotdog. The chicken bites were really good with the BBQ sauce. Ordered fries, but only got the end pieces. It would have been nice if there was a better mix of sizes in my order of fries. read more

First time eating a burger the first bite was amazing but then the meat was raw/pink in the middle of the burger. Disgusting!!!!! Second time around decided to give it another shot. Off route 17 south in a busy, high traffic area. Line moves slow since most people are not familiar with the menu. Ordering the food itself does not take too long since the food menu is limited. Ordered take out: 2 burgers, 1 chicken bites and 4 fries. Sat and waited for 20 minutes for my food...burgers were cold by the time I ate them. Let me start by saying that I LOVE Shake Shack! I have been to many within an hour or two of my house and would like to call myself a veteran of the Shake Shack family. This visit, however, was less than steller...still good but not what I normally receive. I have been to this location before and do not remember this issue before but my burger was not hot. Disappointing. Unfortunately we were in a rush to get to a concert so I did not bother asking for a hot entree. Shake shack is not the cheapest of burger spots but their quality and the taste make it worth the price but why could my burger not be hot?! The cheese fries were great (a must add side item I highly recommend) and the mint strawberry lemonade was not bad either. Everyone was friendly and the employee at the register was very kind and patient which I greatly appreciated as it was my friends first time going to a Shake Shack. I love Shake Shack and this location. The service is often friendly and fast. My only problem is that the prices of this place are expensive for a fast food place. I get that they are quality, etc, etc but damn... sometimes, I feel like just giving them my wallet with all my cash and credit cards after I place an order. Other than price, the food is great. The place is a nice, modern casual decor (old bowling alley tables, wood, metal, clean lines). If I had more money, I probably would be making this my staple, rather than Wendy's. If you love eating grease, this place is for you! if not, support a local burger joint instead of a chain. This is the second SS ive been to, the first was inside Citi field (SHEA). This is the first sit down ive been to. The inside of this place is super clean! The Bathrooms on the other hand are not.... the mens urinal didn't flush anymore, and the stall was just as dirty. I should start carrying my camera around, but I was a little preoccupied... The tables and chairs were nice and clean, there was an employee walking around making sure that as soon as a table cleared, they cleaned up after them. There is a big menu on the wall next to where you order. If is a little confusing at first, but its not as bad as you first think. My wife and I both got a shake shack burger or whatever came with bacon. We both got doubles. I also got bacon cheese fries (which I think that they over charged us for, the sign said 4.99 or something but it was $7!), she got plain fries and I also got a cheese dog. The cheese dog was pretty normal. It was on potato bread, so that was good, the hot dog itself was split in half and the insides were nice and crispy, and the cheese sauce which they are known for is amazing! That would get them 5 stars! The crinkle cut fries are good by themselves, but so much better with their cheese sauce! The bacon, isn't really worth the addition... It doesn't really enhance the fries. The burgers get 3 stars. They are halfway decent burgers, I forgot to ask for no pickled peppers. I had to take them off myself... No biggie, that was my fault. Before I tried them, my wife said that I wouldn't notice them, but boy was she wrong! They tasted like vinegar! and didn't compliment the burger at all! Happy To Have Shake Shack In The Area Nice Restaurant With A Laid Back Feel Good Service & Absolutely Spotless BYOB I was quite impressed with the use of this space with it's open feel, comfortable seating and large tables. The burgers are generous, cooked to order, available in a nice variety and presented well. The hot dogs are very good as well, quality beef dogs split and cooked on the flat top also available with a choice of toppings. I prefer the shoestring fries served here, as opposed to the frozen fries at other locations, the fresh hand cut russet potato fries served at this location are crisp, fresh and delicious (add their special blend of american and cheddar for a dollar). As for the shakes I could care less, not a fan of ice cream and shakes so I couldn't comment, I'd rather spend my cholesterol and calorie intake on what makes this place tick. The building is nicely remodeled from it's former tenant Stacks, the use of repurposed materials is always a nice touch and done in style here. Lighting is focused yet sublime and adds to the calming ambiance of this rich modern themed burger shrine. Nothing like Smash or Five Guys so any comparison is moot, the business model here is less "Happy Days" and more slick, very tastefully done. My disappointment with Shake Shack is increasing. As I previously mentioned I visited both the Shake Shacks in downtown Brooklyn near the Marriott Hotel and this particular one on Route 17 South the most often. I feel they HAD the best Shake Shack hamburgers and shakes, because I use to order my hamburgers rare, which I loved. I am a carnivorous animal you know. Strike One: They use to offer the BEST hand-cut fries, but, now they serve frozen crinkle cut fries, which I hate! I ordered them only once and will not order them again. Strike Two: I can't order my burgers rare anymore. WTF? But I do love their shakes especially their special shakes and today's special salted caramel. A double Shackburger is now $8.09 and shake is $5.29. I will probably visit this place less often. Time for me to sell my Shake Shack and Yelp stock. Following is Shake Shack's response regarding my above review: "We don't want to disappoint any of our guests, but our new standard is to cook all our burgers to a safe temperature (160 degrees), which comes out to at least medium. My Yelper friend, Dennis T. recommended I do the Cheese Fries after I reviewed the 3rd Avenue Shake Shack in NY. And then my another Yelper friend, Elena N. posted a photo of a juicy looking mouth watering burger that was not Shake Shack but all I can think about was to go to a Shake Shack in NJ and feed the craving that just got. I ordered a double ShokeShack burger for me with everything and for my BFF I got the new Bacon CheddarShack burger, and a large order of fries with cheese on the side. And I got their Lemonade to go. Maybe some other time I will try a Shake or one of those Concretes. The food was of course was slamming. The burger here was cooked different than the 3rd Ave spot. The burger had a crispy edge to it that I love. I know most people want soft a medium rare burger. This one is difficult because I have mixed feelings. Their burgers are outstanding but are so in a greasy, yummy sort of way. They are not the pristine quality of say, a Habit Burger or a Zinburger. They are more along the lines of a 5 Guys but not quite as good. I love 5 Guys. Their fries are also outstanding if you like the crunchy waffle variety. Very, very few places cook them properly; they're either too soft or overcooked. These are absolutely 100% on point. More old school than the shoe strings that seem to be the norm and I am a huge fan. Their shakes are epic and untouchable but I don't really drink them. So again, somewhere else is going to be my preference if I am just looking for a burger. If I feel like having a shake, they're tops on my list. Also, while they do have a veggie burger and chicken offerings, these are not all that great. Again, I prefer the albacore burger at Habit if I'm looking for a healthy alternative. When we were there the other night one of the ketchup dispensers was broken and the other was empty. Epic failure considering that 99% of their customers require it. All and all, I think that Shake Shack is a solid burger place, especially if you're looking to pair up with a shake. The Story: After looking at their new chicken sandwich... I've been wanting to come here. Food: I ordered 2 of their chicken sandwiches with french fries. I thought the chicken sandwich is too salty for my taste. If you like salt, you might enjoy it more than I did. The fries were crispy but lacked any flavor. I didn't just pay $3 for these sub par fries... (yeah I did and I regret!) Unfortunately I think Wendy's has a better chicken sandwich. Price: $16.66 for 2 chicken sandwiches and 1 fries. I'll make this short and sweet. Quality is what you'd expect at the NYC Shake Shacks. So are the prices. Only unique menu item is the Bergen County milkshake. Went on Grand Opening day and it was about 10-15 mins on line, another 20 or so for the order to come out. Staff is friendly and nice. Decor's more similar to Zinburger than Five Guys. Sad that the hand cut french fries aren't available on the express line (for those who don't want to purchase burgers). Parking lot will definitely be a nightmare during peak dining hours. Called several times to make sure driver had my number.Bottom line waiting for driver saw him walking up to my home.Asked him if he was Grub Hub delivery for my address. He replied yes. Strawberry shake was not filled to the top. The soda's are not free re-fills. They pour your soda behind the counter. $25 meal where you order your own food. We ended up spending another $8 as one order fries isn't enough for 2 people to share my husband was still hungry after eating his burger. Hot off the latest gourmet burger trend (Five Guys, Zinburger, Larkburger, Smash Burger) comes Shake Shack. If you want the quick review this is it: If you think that going to a "restaurant" and spending 8$ on a burger makes it better than going to a Burger King, Mickey D's, or a Wendy's, than this is the type of place for you. The only issue is the long lines out the door and around the corner. Now heres the full review. Now this an't my first rodeo. I went to a Shake Shack once two summers ago, it didn't really blow my socks off then, and it didn't really impress me now. Pulling up to the joint, you immediately get then sense of damn lets go somewhere else, the line literally goes out the door, and around the restaurant. But because you've already driven 15-20 minutes down the highway to get there, you might as well just stick it out. Luckily it wasn't too cold, so waiting outside wasn't too much of an issue, but I can definitely see it become more of an issue when it begins to snow. Heres the thing about the line. It does move pretty quick. If you're willing to wait, you'll be at the front of the line in maybe another 15-20 minutes. Sucks if you're there alone, but if you come with a group of friends, it wouldn't kill you to stay away from the phone and converse with one another for a bit. The long line fortunately enough does not come from a slow kitchen, your order comes out pretty quick, and despite the masses, there are more than enough seats, which in the case of my group, easily accommodated 9 of us. The long line instead comes from the mere 2 cashiers. Foods out probably around 5 minutes, and yes, they do have gluten free options. I ordered the Smokeshack burger (bacon, chopped peppers, cheese, and their special sauce; probably some form of chipotle mayo) some fries, and a vanilla shake. The burger, pretty good, I prefer for lack of better words, a sloppier burger; cheesy, juicy, oily. -and thats what it is. It's a very wet burger. My only issue was that I didn't get any extra special sauce to dip with. The fries are honestly nothing special, I prefer thick cut, lightly crisp on the outside, yet moist on the inside. These fries were your basic McDonalds batch. Thin & thrown in the deep fryer too long. The shake unfortunately was more like semi melted ice cream. It was not blended together well at all. Had to use a spoon instead of a straw to "enjoy it". The burger as it should be, was the best part of the meal. I just wish the other aspects had been better. Shake Shack is still pretty new, once the hype dies down a bit, and all the staff is properly trained, it will probably be a solid place to hit up when you driving down the highway and you want something fast, but not "fast food" if you get my drift. They are trying out these new shoestring type fries that I think are definitely much better than the crinkle fries they have in the city. They also have swag, nj swag of course! I love Shake Shack, so when I found out it was opening in Jerz I was really excited to not have to travel to the city for my sweet, salty, greasy, creamy fix. I feared many other would do the same but even on the third day of its existence it was running like a well oiled machine. Points in its favor- -the parking lot layout kinda sucks but they put some cones up to stem the flow of traffic -the employees are "Disney" friendly -the food- I can get my Shack Stack and concrete Things to work on -we did wait a little longer then expected from ordering to receiving our food and it wasn't that crowded -during peak times you might struggle to find a table (sorry to the family I jumped on when they stood up from their meal -my Bergen county concrete had like 2 pieces of pecan roll in it -they only have the hand cut fries, which are delicious, but I enjoy the crinkle fries much more When I'm ready to go again in a few months, hopefully some of these things will improve, but for the first week- not bad! It may be more "fast food" than "gourmet" as far as burgers are concerned - but that doesn't make me love it any less. It's greasy and juicy and made to order. It's on a potato bun which is also my favorite choice of bun. Toppings are plentiful and the shake shack sauce is delish. I have only had the Shake Shack burger twice now, but I crave it on a regular basis. The fries are good - cheese topping is a mix of cheddar and american which is interesting. I had one of the desserts that was ice cream with caramel and chocolate mixed in, I enjoyed it. I wouldn't come by myself - parking is tough and so is finding a table. Not being from area we of course we missed the tiny hidden entrance to get into Shake Shack. So heads up, there's a small one way entrance, followed by a separate one way exit. Several people missed it as well, we watched in horror as one car went as far as to put the car in reverse as cars whizzed by at 70 mph. We chose to take another 2.5 mile lap and circle around. Annoying....yes, but totally worth it. Since Shake Shack is a novelty for us we threw calorie counting out the window. And here it goes... The new chick' shack burger was a crispy spicy chicken patty sandwiched between a buttermilk ranch dressing and lettuce and tomato. Yes it was good but honestly could go head to head with its equivalent at Wendy's or Chick-fil-a. Crinkle cheese fries, crispy. My husband and I differed on opinion. I thought they were ok, not worth the extra money or calories because the cheese tasted artificial. I would stick with regular fries. Oatmeal creme pie shake....luxurious smooth oatmeal flavor that will have you craving your mom's homemade oatmeal cookies. Shack attack ice cream which had chunks of delicious chocolaty goodness. I can recall waiting on long lines during lunch hour while I was attending the Culinary School down the street, or sitting beneath the twinkling string lights during the summer. It is a New York City staple. Shake Shack was started by Danny Meyer, the restaurateur genius that brought us places like Union Square Cafe, Gramercy Tavern, The Modern, and many others. A lot of people here are complaining about the prices and portions. When coming to Shake Shack we have to remember a few things. These are gourmet burgers. You're paying for high-quality ingredients and 100% all-natural Angus beef. You're paying for beef that's been humanely raised and vegetarian fed with no hormones or antibiotics. If you want to pay less, that's why there's Burger King. The prices are fair here for what they are selling. And as far as portions, these burgers are perfectly sized. You do not need a Quarter-Pounder, FlameThrower, Triple Whopper! This location is new, and you can tell. There were a few kinks, like us missing a whole burger. But they were very friendly and fixed it in a timely manner. The restaurant is very open, and very clean. The walls are made from salvaged wood from a local barn, and the tables are made from reclaimed bowling alley lanes! There was no line when we came around lunchtime on a Saturday. What you should DEFINITELY order at Shake Shack: The SmokeShack. It's their best burger. A juicy cheeseburger topped with smokey bacon and a uniquely sweet and spicy cherry pepper salsa. Their fries. A very generous portion of twice-cooked hand-cut fries that are crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside and oh so perfectly salty. Their hot dogs. Did you know SS started out as a little hot dog stand? Their hot dogs are so good. Split down the middle so they're evenly griddled and have the perfect crispy texture. The Chicken Dog is sweet and satisfying with hints of apple and sage. Their frozen treats. Do not leave without trying a Concrete. DON'T DO IT. Bergen County Blend with Balthazar Bakery sticky bun? Yes please. Purple Cow Float? Why, of course. And the Fair Shake with 100% certified organic Arabica Fair Trade beans?! Don't have to ask me twice. And in addition to all these wonderful things, you can also enjoy a nice cold beer, grab a special sundae for your dog (Pooch-ini), or a Mast Brothers chocolate bar. (Don't be scared that it's $7 - it's worth every penny). And, as a last helpful hint, if you're just craving a frozen confection, you do not have to wait in line. Burgers, fries, milkshakes, and more! All the hype is definitely worth the trip. I have been to this Shake Shack a handful of times since they opened last year and have always been satisfied with my meal and my experience. The staff is very friendly and attentive, the restaurant is clean and comfortable, and most importantly the burgers are juicy, fries are the perfect mix of crunchy and soft, and shakes are creamy and delicious! A few suggestions is you're planning on stopping by 1) I would definitely eat at the restaurant, while the burgers are still good when you get them home they lose a little something in transit. 2) If you are not a big red meat eater (I don't get it but personal preference I guess) I would definitely recommend the Shroom burger, but be careful(!) the cheese is hot and oozes out when you bite into it. 3) If you can't decide between the single or double ALWAYS opt for the double. After all, the only thing that can make 1 delicious burger even better is to top it with a second patty. 4) The SmokeShack is my go to, however the chopped cherry pepper has some heat so if you don't like spicy ask them to hold off (maybe if you ask nicely they can hold the pepper and add extra bacon....can't hurt asking). Paramus has a bunch of good burger spots, and I'm proud to say I've tried them all, but not all measure up to the quality of food and people you will find at Shake Shack. read more
