I will say I had this at 9:30 pm and couldn't sleep due to the strength of the matcha but that goes to show that they really put a good amount! Last time I visited, I ordered a matcha latte with red bean. After the first sip, I noticed a strange taste and took another sip to be sure. It turned out the red bean was spoiled, so I had to go back and ask them to remake the drink without it. This time, on 12/27 around 5:30 PM, I ordered a hojicha latte. After placing my order, I noticed there was a free size upgrade promotion running throughout December, so I asked if my drink could be upgraded. The staff member said no, explaining that it had to be done while ordering for the promotion to apply. That excuse felt very lame and honestly came across as laziness, especially since it was a free upgrade and could have easily been accommodated. At another Maiko location (Garden State Plaza), the staff proactively informed me about the promotion and asked if I wanted the upgrade, which is what I would expect. Unfortunately, the Fort Lee location didn't offer the same experience. Even after I asked, it felt like I was given weak excuses rather than a genuine effort to help. On top of that, the hojicha latte here was overly milky. I've had the same drink at other Maiko locations where it tasted much nuttier and more balanced, so this was disappointing. Was a bit disappointed in my recent trip here the quality is going downhill. They only had taro, strawberry, matcha, and vanilla. The strawberry was the only creamy one. All the other flavors were super watered down and icy. The staff here was the only saving grace. Seating is minimal only a bench and four bar stools. You can also order yomie yogurt too. It was so subtle that I was basically eating dense whipped cream. I was expecting bold and rich flavors (especially from matcha), but they were weak. The soft serve was also very icy! It lacked that light, smooth, and creamy texture. For the price, I really expected better. Sad to see that the quality has gone down. I know, I know. I should have asked for a sample before buying, but I was overconfident that it would taste amazing since I had great experiences here in the past. Well, the service was quick. The small lot next to it has signs that say it's only for patrons of this gym next door, but people don't really give a F and park there anyway. As mentioned, the place is small- there's ONE bench outside that can fit 2 people, 3 if you really wanna get in there and a counter top that faces the storefront window with a few stools. I got my son the vanilla & hojicha flavored soft serve on a cone and my husband got this matcha brownie thing. The soft serve was delicious, however, it melted pretty quickly once it was given to us. It wasn't a super hot night so I don't think their machine worked great. I've gotten Mr. Softee soft serve that was nice and tight soft serve if that makes sense? The flavor wasn't bad but again, would've been better if I wasn't slurping the cone after 3 minutes of getting it. The matcha brownie cup my husband got was definitely better. You get a 12oz (I think) cup of matcha ice cream, topped with whipped cream and small little brownie bites on top. Brownies were alright. Kinda dry and didn't taste like it's made fresh but it wasn't awful. Matcha ice cream was good, but I wouldn't say it was the best I've had. Service overall was ok. There were two machines you can order from and two people working the back making the desserts. The person that helped me was considerate enough to offer me a small cup for my son in the event he decided to drop the entire ice cream cone. I'm glad I tried this place but the overall location isn't great and with the place being so small, I wouldn't suggest staying here to hang. Finally got a chance to try this place out for some post new year dessert and today was actually a perfect time, less crowd and free street parking for the holidays. They actually have a lot of choices on the menu with majority, of course, having matcha flavor.
