I came to Mitsuwa specifically to get the hojicha soft serve and unfortunately it's not the same soft serve place that used to be there. The previous soft serve was strong on hojicha flavor, and the ice cream light and fluffy, while still being creamy. The new hojicha soft serve is very light on hojicha flavor, I could barely make out the flavor, it really tasted to me like heavy cream, which normally isn't bad, but there's not enough aeration--the soft serve is soo dense and overly creamy that I had to stop eating it after a while bc it was just too creamy... kinda making me feel gross after eating most of the cup, so I had to let the last quarter melt. And I can't believe I'm saying this, since as an ice cream lover I never leave ice cream unfinished! But it just wasn't good :( Other than that the staff seemed nice and around dinner time on a Saturday there was minimal line. You can customize your ice cream by adding shaved ice or toppings. One of their most popular toppings is mont blanc, which is sweetened chestnut purée in the form of vermicelli noodles. I've never tried it, but I always hear people raving about it! If you're not craving ice cream, they also serve mochi waffles, shakes, tea, and lattes. Service is efficient. They let you sample any flavors. You order at the register and there is a designated pick-up area to avoid overcrowding. Quick, clean, and easy. I ordered a small cup of the purple potato soft serve ($5.50). The texture was perfect. It was fluffy, light, creamy, and smooth. As for the taste, it was more on the mild side. The purple potato is a mixture of sweet, nutty, and subtle vanilla flavors. I also tried a sample of their matcha... it was sweeter than I expected, but still had the signature earthy taste. I have had ice cream from this place many times and loved the black sesame soft-serve ice cream. My son's favorite is strawberry, so we went for the strawberry and pineapple. My go to flavor is their black sesame ice cream and topped with purple sweet potato! sooo satisfying! I love the sweet potato coz it actually reminds me of ube halaya and its just so delicious. The soft serve is light but creamy and has a very nice texture. The black sesame flavor is nutty and perfectly sweet in my opinion. My only gripe is that I wish it had a slightly stronger black sesame flavor but other than that it's one of my favorite places to get soft serve. read more

It's sad I have to give this place 3 stars. My partner and I came here in August to walk around Mitsuwa. We stopped for bubble tea. The matcha bubble tea my partner and I ordered here was the best matcha bubble tea we ever had! It wasn't too sweet, it tasted how matcha should taste. Unfortunately two less stars because of the customer service. The tall young guy behind the counter was not helpful at all. My partner and I looked at the menu and asked some questions. He looked zoned out and didn't give clear answers. After asking about taro and what the difference between flat lid and cone lid, I told him I wanted to order a large matcha bubble tea. He repeated the order as taro. I corrected him and said matcha. As I was about to pay, I noticed he still ringing it up as taro. My partner corrected him. We waited about 5 minutes for our order to be made. A young lady had over a bright purple drink to us. I asked her why the matcha looks like this. She said it's taro. Like what! The young boy had the nerve to say we ordered taro. We asked him one question about taro and somehow he was preoccupied with that. So yeah, we had to wait another 5 minutes for our order. My partner and I will be back to order another bubble tea because it was delicious. Hopefully better staff is working at the counter. read more
