Shabuya has become a go-to for AYCE shabu in the South Bay as the quality you get for the price is pretty good. I've gone on a weekday during lunch and dinner so in terms of wait, there wasn't much. They do have a yelp waitlist you can join ahead of time which is helpful if you do go on a busy day. There are six different meat options and you can choose up to 4 each time. In terms of serving size, it's not super huge which I kind of like because I don't get overwhelmed with having to finish a big portion each time it comes out. The quality of the meat is good and very worth it for the price. There is a self-serve bar for sauces and things like veggies, noodles, sides, etc. The appetizers are also good with options like 3 different kinds of chicken karaage and gyoza. The soju mixed drinks that are served in caprisun-type bags are also good and a fun little addition to dinner if you want a drink but it is an additional cost. We were required to sign up on their Yelp waitlist prior to being seated even though there was no line or wait. Ordering with the server was very quick and efficient. Our waiter checked in on us when we needed more rounds of the meat at the right time. The sukiyaki broth was also our favorite broth. We enjoyed the open bar full of sauces, seafood, noodles, and vegetables. Be sure to order rice with your waiter since it doesn't automatically come with the first round of orders. I've been looking for a quality place for some hot pot. My boys and I were due for a lunch get together, so I suggested Shabuya! Our party of five met at the parking lot, before they opened. There was already a line forming before 11am on a Saturday morning. Save yourself the trouble and use the Yelp waitlist function on the app to save yourself some time. You'll need to do the same thing in person at the restaurant. Once our table was ready, our hostess brought us there and gave us our menus. For a AYCE hot pot establishment, the menu and pricing was pretty decent. For my broth, I went with the tonkatsu. After picking my broth, I went over to the food bar to pickup some proteins and vegetables to put in my broth. The main meats we've went with were rib eye, toro, pork belly and flat iron steak. We did also the the appetizers of goyzas and all the chicken karaage. All the meats and vegetables were fresh tasting. The tonkatsu was flavorful. I did try a variety of noodles (udon, ramen, and egg). I stuck with ramen, since it was my favorite. The others were good too. We all did enjoy Shabuya. Most definitely will be back! read more

Unfortunately, I think I will have to rank Shabuya at or near the bottom of my personal Bay Area hot pot ranking list. There are two main reasons for this: - One of the biggest things that I personally look for at an AYCE hotpot spot is variety in both their soups and side ingredients - unfortunately Shabuya misses the mark on both accounts. With only 5 not super unique soups to choose from. Spicy Miso + Miso and and Sukiyaki + House being very similar made me feel like I had very limited choice in flavor. Their mushroom and noodle options I also felt were a little lacking - and some ingredients just sat there with empty tubs for most of the time I was there. - Secondly, I cannot get behind the way Shabuya slices their meat so that they're paper thin, to the point where it feels like I have to scrape them off the metal tray they serve it on. It really detracts from the whole Shabu Shabu experience when the meat that I've scraped off can't be swished in the broth anyways since I couldn't lift it cleanly. For an all you can eat place - it just feels very stingy. My final gripe is with their split policy. While It was my fault for assuming I would be able to split our table so we had 2 people pay on one card, and 1 person on the other, I was told their policy is to only split straight down the middle, which didn't really make sense to me since everyone is paying the same price anyways. As for the restaurant itself, I felt that it was clean and well lit. Service was good when it was available but a little slow - probably because only one person was making rounds throughout the dining area. My party ate around 5pm so it might've been a weird time but I had to flag people down several times. The broth was so watered down. I feel like the flavor was not even there. Someone said in our party that their broth was a little bit different before. I feel like they sometimes didn't give the same cut as what we asked for cause it didn't look the same every time. Was extremely disappointed by my experience here. Came in on a Sunday night and was seated pretty quickly after joining the online waitlist. Restaurant was very crowded and loud and the food bar and sauces were chaotic, packed with people waiting and cutting in line to get vegetables, seafood, sides, and sauces. Ordered the four beef options as my first round of meat. By the time I got my vegetables and sauce from the crowded and dirty food bar, the meat was already on the table and the meat looked very low quality (see picture). But the worst part was, they didn't give us tongs to cook the meat. I've been to other Shabuya locations and they give tongs to each person. When I asked the waiter for tongs, he said they don't have any, and that everyone just uses chopsticks. I do not know how to use chopsticks. It also seems unsanitary to use chopsticks on raw meat and then put them in your mouth (yes I know you can dip them in your boiling broth, but still.) I felt like a Karen asking for a manager but even the manager, while very polite, said there was nothing they could do other than give me two plastic forks to use instead of tongs (not only did they not have tongs, but they also were out of metal forks). Very sad seeing as the salad bar had tongs. This is America, not everyone knows how to use chopsticks. Despite being a fairly Americanized cuisine/restaurant, their dining accessibility is not very American-friendly. Very underprepared and not accessible friendly restaurant. We chose to leave without eating, as I didn't want to awkwardly fumble around with two plastic forks for AYCE. Leaving was an easy decision too given that the meat quality looked so poor anyway. I'm able to finish a few bowls of my hot-pot (the original house broth is good) The spicy mayo however now has a lack of spice. That means that the Karage isn't as spicy now, adding no point to the spicy mayo. The meats are decent when dipped, but they only have a variety of beef choices; there is only one pork and chicken choice. The service is decent. A few times the orders have been incorrect. I understand it's an accident, but I hope they have better staff soon. They also say that this is an "all you can eat" Japanese hot-pot, where is it and is not an all you can eat. My aunt asked me if there was "Tom yum" here and I said there was no "Tom yum." Wish they clearly explained what they did and did not have. Overall, a pretty good place, but can have some better service and more food options to choose from. I have always seen a ton of people in line at Shabuya whenever I get boba at my fav shop next door. I was curious and saw some positive reviews online and that they offered a $19.99/person for a weekday lunch, which is unheard of in the Bay these days. I highly recommend putting yourself on the waitlist via Yelp before arriving. We went on an early Friday afternoon right before 1pm and I had put my name down before driving over. With 16 parties ahead of us, we still had to wait an additional 10 minutes upon arrival and were seated at 1:30pm. Unfortunately, we were seated in a back booth and quickly realized that the waiters were not coming to the back area much and had to flag them down just so we could place our order. You get 1.5 hours to eat and can order 6 plates of meat, 2 appetizers, and refills on rice and broth each time. The all you can eat veggies, seafood, noodles, and sauce bar is located in the middle of the room. There was definitely a good amount of options and we were able to grab two full plates of food without needing to go back for more. I will definitely say that the quality of the meat and pretty much all of the food was really good for the price you're paying. I was skeptical of the seafood, so I only got a few fish balls and fish cakes to try, which were all decent. The waiter checked on us a few times and we reordered 6 more plates of meat, more rice, and 3 rounds of their fried chicken appetizers (I recommend asking for light sauce for the fried chicken). There were definitely a few cons to this experience, the main one being our burners were not working almost at all. At best, I can say they were warm, but not nearly hot enough to boil the broth. We were prompted to try the burners next to us and they also were not working well. At the end of the day, we were given individual gas burners which did the trick, but this took over 30 minutes to get sorted and cut into the eating time. Another major con was that the restaurant did not feel totally sanitary. There was a ton of food all over the ground and under our table to the point where I was slipping on things and had to be careful when walking. We also had to ask the waiter to re-wipe our table before we sat down because there were things left on the table near the burners and the seats were sticky. The area with the veggies, seafood, and sauce were also messy and needed to be replenished quicker because things were constantly running out. I was pretty skeptical of the entire restaurant early on due to this but still tried to give them the benefit of the doubt and try the food before judging further. Despite these two major cons, I think the food was good and the price is worth giving it a shot. Don't think this would be my number 1 go to place for hot pot but I'd go back for a weekday lunch since the price is so reasonable. read more

I came here yesterday, on Sunday night, with my family to celebrate my nephew's birthday. This was the first time coming here, and I was excited to try them out. Although the parking lot was packed, they still had space in the back for our party of 8. It was nice and dim in the restaurant, but not too dark.I was lucky to be facing the bar, which had anNFL game on one and an NBA game on another. I liked that there wasn't any music blaring like in some Korean BBQ restaurants Instead of a community hot pot, where everyone gathers around a single hot pot where everyone cooks their food together without getting to choose which soup base they'd like, each diner has their own induction cooker, which is built into the tables and can be set at 5 different power levels. Even on level 3, it's hot enough to bring your personal hot pot soup to a boil. The buffet had a good selection of food to add to your hotpot. I stuck with some baby bok choy, frozen gyoza, lobster balls, imitation crab sticks, squid, black ear fungus, king mushrooms, and bean sprouts. We all mainly ordered the wagyu meat, which became tough because I dumped all my meat into my soup all at once. It made it hard to chew, and you couldn't cut it into smaller pieces because you only had chopsticks and a soup spoon, without any knives or scissors, which are usually found at a Korean BBQ or traditional hot pot restaurant. Afterward, we got some of the beef toro, which was really tender, but the slices shrank in size by about 75%. Another thing that happens is your dipping bowl gets watered down quickly after dipping items into it, so you end up having to add more soy sauce. I ordered the Spicy Miso broth, which tasted like miso in the beginning, but lost its flavor after cooking a lot of vegetables in it. A lot of the water from the veggies must have boiled out into the soup. Next time, I'll bring an extra packet or two of beef ramen soup packets to add to the soup if it starts to lose its flavor. read more

First time here and I was blown away. Getting a table in person might have been a little different than I was used to. I got there a few minutes after they opened and before I got into the door, there was a iPad with a waitlist. I checked in and sat outside and waited (without going in). I saw a couple of different groups going inside and totally skipping the iPad. I shrugged my shoulders and after a few minutes of seeing another group doing the same thing skipping the iPad, I decided to go in. I saw the place was partially empty (mind you I came during they opened and I expected it to be light) then my group was seated. The server explained the options to us. Everyone gets an individual pot and broth of choice. This is a plus. Don't have to deal with whatever cold or sickness your friends or family might gas light you into thinking they aren't coming down with a cold. And I like spicy and I get a lot all to myself while the non spicy friends can have their own. All the pots are heated with convection. You have your own setting you can adjust. This is a plus, no fire in your face. And not "not touch zones" immediately outside the pot. Induction only heats the pot not the table. They have seafood and vegetables on their buffet table in the middle of the restaurant . You get them as you see fit. Although, don't fill your self with that. The main thing you came here for is the protein. They are all sliced paper thin which I like. I want to enjoy consuming not waiting for things to get cooked. I had to come to the South Bay for some volunteering, and I decided to grab lunch here because I didn't feel like looking up many options in the area. I'm familiar with Shabuya because there's one in my neighborhood. I noticed that there are huge consistency issues among locations. For example, at the Concord Shabuya, they stopped serving chicken eggs at the buffet bar at the beginning of 2025, but there are eggs here in Milpitas. Secondly, Milpitas offers certain items at the buffet bar for dinner only, but they leave it out during lunch as a "gotcha" to tag unsuspecting customers with dinner prices, with anything ranging from quail eggs, lobster balls, and various vegetables. That is just inherently dishonest and predatory. I mean, I get that quail eggs are delicacies, but why would you have them out at lunch and then just use a label maker to say "For dinner only." in the first place? Secondly, unless Shabuya is offering 10 other cuts of meat at dinnertime, why would you charge extra for buffet bar items for dinner instead of lunch? Thirdly, the broth did take a while to heat up, which was surprising. Don't get me wrong. The employees here were really friendly, but I don't understand why Shabuya has to resort to underhanded tactics to charge people extra. Prematurely kicked out during birthday lunch. I was really disappointed with my first visit, especially since it was during my birthday lunch. After we paid, our server with the spider earrings told us we could finish our food. Right after, another staff member came over and told us something completely different. We were pressured to leave before we had even finished the few pieces of already cooked meat on our plate. If there is a time limit, that is completely fair. But expectations need to be communicated clearly and consistently. It is frustrating to hear one thing from one employee and then be told the opposite by someone else. That kind of mixed messaging creates confusion and ruins the experience. The most frustrating part was being told it was because there were people waiting. There was no line. If the staff simply wanted us to leave, they should have said so directly instead of using an excuse that was clearly untrue. This was my first time, but my friend is a regular and she was stunned. She said she had never been treated like that before. It also felt like the staff's attitude shifted right after we paid and tipped, which made the situation feel even worse. Two things can be true at the same time. The food was good, but the service was incredibly disrespectful. We ordered the #5 Sukiyaki broth and #3 spicy miso broth. For appetizers we order #3 soy glazed chicken Karaage and #4 volcanoes chicken karaage. My favorite was the soy glazed. The volcano karaage was barely Luke warm and has some real heat that takes a little to kick in. The additional add on bar had some great choices of vegetables and seafood. The manager (Asian looks, and female) was extremely rude, inattentive, and made us feel unwelcome from the moment we sat down. She seemed irritated when we asked questions, barely checked on our table, and acted like we were an inconvenience. We had funny and beautiful day today, until we met the manager in Shabuya who ruined everything. We came expecting a good meal and a decent dining experience, but the attitude and lack of basic courtesy from the staff ruined it. For a restaurant that charges premium prices, the service should at least be respectful. We won't be coming back for ever, and definitely do not recommend this place unless management seriously improves how customers are treated.
