Do not use this company. Our insurance company selected this company to repair our bathroom after a failure in the flooring caused water damage. The result is an uneven floor and bubbling paint within three months; two months after they were supposed to finish. The work was supposed to be finished by the end of March when I started a four-month deployment. They assured me that that was more than doable. When I started my deployment the demolition had not even finished in our 200 sq ft bathroom. This meant I was not home to monitor the work and it went downhill from there. They finally finished two months later and when I came home I found the entrance to the bathroom had been raised almost a full inch and was now that far above the bedroom carpet. We'll get used to that but it was very surprising given the old floor was level with the carpet. As I walked into the bathroom I noticed a very obvious slope from the door to about 3 feet into the bathroom. I put a level on it and there was a gap under the level of about a quarter inch and it was clearly not level. I also noticed that they had not put sealant around the mixing valve cover or the cover on the shower head. When I contacted the company they said they had to raise the floor to meet the toilet flange. Two things are a problem with that. First the sill of the bathroom door used to be even with the carpet; now it's an inch above. That seems clearly unnecessary. Second if you have to raise the floor you do that with subflooring across the entire bathroom. You do that ahead of time and make sure the tile is level. But I wasn't there to oversee the work and insurance had paid them. So I figured we'd just deal with it. Now a month later and the paint they put down is bubbling. Do not use this company! read more

I wish I would have read the reviews but my homeowners set it up. They tried to charge me twice for the same process. To pick up the carpet and to put it back down when I asked for them to remove the carpet as well as the padding. Then they are harrassing me about paying for the carpet piece of $144 when I had to pay another company to remove the carpet to replace it with new carpet and they should have removed it with the padding in the first place and then they lied and said they put foam spacers under the carpet which they didn't do neither. I thought we agreed to remove the charge (Tina) she sent me the invoice with the charge removed and then once I paid that invoice in full and have the receipt, she came back and said I still owe them the $144. It is with much regret I find the need to write this review. I had a house fire Jan 2022. In the aftermath of a devasting event, I selected Singer to restore my home. Unfortunately, it turns out to be the worst decision of my life as a homeowner. The company is poorly managed. No one ever knew what was going on with your project. Poor communication resulted in many time-lapses, delaying the completion of the project. My home was not completed after a year and a half. My initial project manager quit, unbeknownst to the company delaying it 3 months right out the gate. There was no replacement for several more months. The replacement project manager was new to the company and virtually incompetent to do his job. I basically had to manage the project myself, constantly calling people to get a status of what was been done. I attempted to work with everyone giving them the benefit of the doubt due to their heavy workload according to their office manager. Some of the workmanship was good but a lot of it was poorly done. They even damaged work that was already completed. Drywall was a nightmare. They covered everything, including electrical outlets, and ductwork causing unnecessary holes to be cut in my new 5/8 in drywall I fought the insurance company to approve. As I saw the workmanship decline, I became very displeased with the company. This is just a small sample of my discrepancies with this company. To this date June 9, 2023, I'm still not officially back in my home. They never met their deadlines and the final one was May 3oth. My home was never completed, livable but not complete. I highly recommend not to use ServiveMaster by Singer. They blame their work issues on other things. As our shower has been leaking as they placed blame our water heater which costed us a lot of unneeded spending and replacement. Now we are waiting on their response again. They built their own shower pan which is the source of water leakage under a bedroom wall into bathroom and basement. How about ServiceMaster by Singer accept responsibility and fix this!! We even have mold damage again!! Our insurance company has pushed for us to use them. Definitely the worse decision we ever made. read more

I wish there was a lower rating than 1 star. The people out of the Baltimore branch are the worst people I've ever dealt with. They had me dealing with 4 different agents - very disjointed. If they spent as much time and energy in making the necessary restoration repairs as they did in measuring, taking pictures and bouncing me between agents my repairs would be done. Instead after a month I fired them. To make matters worse they demand payment in full before they even begin the work. Not trustworthy; ServiceMaster by Singer abandoned my job an hour after they arrived. The onsite technicians showed up to start remediation on my flooded basement at a reasonable time and quickly determined what work needed to be done. They just as quickly had me fill out a bunch of paperwork prominently noting that I was paying them, not the insurance company. But then they called back to their offices, which decided "we're not sure if insurance will pay on this job; leave now". Then they packed up and left my wet, moldering basement, never to be seen again. They can't be trusted to fill their pledges. read more

I can't comment on the actual work because they never performed it. My insurance carrier recommended them. The staff I spoke with in the beginning were communicative but after someone came to my house to assess damages, I never heard from him again. Spent the next 2-3 weeks trying to get a quote. Insurance told me I could use someone else and it took another week to get reimbursed. When I spoke to the owner, she kinda laughed at the whole thing. Also said she could recommend someone closer as they were out of Baltimore and I'm in Rockville. read more

After floods that hit the Catonsville/Ellicott City area in May, 2018 I reached out to ServiceMaster at the recommendation of my insurance company. They came out when they said they would and informed me they would need to rip out the carpet in the basement and extract the half inch of water that was still there. They went over things and told me that 95% of the time insurance covered. I felt in good hands with compassionate people at such a horrible time. Turns out insurance would not cover because the water came in under the door. I called and informed them I could not do the restoration work with them but asked about the cost of the extraction of the water. I was told someone would call me. They continued to call asking when someone could come out to give an estimate of the work to be completed. I explained I would not be going through them since insurance was not covering it. Received 2 more calls asking the same thing from 2 other individuals.....do then not make notes and communicate??? Each conversation I had, I asked if I would get the cost to extract the water. I was told yes, someone will call you. Never received the cost but received the invoice 2 weeks ago.....$2524.60.........JUST TO EXTRACT WATER! They asked for a credit card to pay the entire amount. I explained I would need to make payments as I was not able to give a credit card for that amount. Asked if I could pay $200/mo and was told no, had to be $800 something. Explained there was no way I could do that and was told $500 something and that the owners would not go for anything else. I finally said I could pay a little over $400/mo so it was paid within 6 months and have not heard back from them. There was absolutely no empathy from Sarah when I talked to her. Courtney did want to work with me but had to get approval from her supervisor.....that is when I heard from Sarah. She even commented that I "chose" not to go through insurance. I didn't CHOOSE not to go through them, I was devastated when I learned insurance would not cover it! This company is extremely unorganized and only after money. They tell you things you want to hear so they can get your business and you trust in them because you are so distraught at the time of the damage and in need of help. Then when you realize you have to pay the cost, they don't even have any compassion to let you pay what it is you can afford after being through such a terrible ordeal only to find insurance will not help. I don't think making 6 payments to cover the cost of a bill is asking too much. They prefer to take someone to collections instead of trying to work with them. The final product looks great but getting there was a challenge. This companies communication skills are some of the worse I have experienced. I had full insurance coverage so money was not the issue. They do not keep you informed of project schedule and do not return calls after weeks of silence. I give Michael Singer (owner) credit as he came immediately to the phone after my 1 week job was not even started after 6 (actually longer) months and I voiced frustration with the receptionist since the entire job was paid months earlier by my insurance company. I could tell he was not aware of any problem and promised to have an answer for me within an hour. He is a man of his word and contacted me informing me the work would be done in about a week. They started work about 2 weeks later as the project manager hadn't ordered any supplies for the job. Once that was done the project moved quickly. The project manager of my job had poor communication skills as he rarely returned a phone call and seemed (my opinion) to make promises he had no intention of keeping. Again, the final product is beautiful but the time line is absolutely unacceptable and the communication skills of my project manager are poor. read more

Had water damage in a rental property due to over-worked sump pump during the July 2017 storms. Service started out well, they responded quickly on a weekend and ripped out everything--baseboards, rugs, pads etc for less than an inch of water. Their staff person was confident we would be covered and said removing everything was their standard procedure. When we learned that we were not covered they immediately picked up their equipment and charged us the same thing they would've charged State Farm. When I called to appeal the exorbitant charge, I had a very unpleasant conversation with April. I felt judgement instead of empathy, she denied that Service Master had any responsibility for the unnecessary removal of our baseboards (which had to to be replaced) or the misleading assurances by their staff that we would be covered. My appeal met with a deaf ear and April's threat to send a demand letter and take us to court!! Expect to be treated like a multi-million dollar insurance company instead of a human being. Water damage mitigation - Most unorganized and unprofessional company I have ever had the displeasure of working with. Reached out to their General Manager Brian, who told me he would accompany the crew coming back for the 3rd time because the job still wasn't completed. He did not show up nor did he call. I sent him a text to ask for the contact information for the owner, Mr. Singer and he told me he would have Mr. Singer contact me. No reason from him on why he did not show up or call me that day. When I did not receive a call from Mr. Singer, I texted Brian again the next day. Brian said "he's out of town until Monday, I left a note on his door or you could call the office next week." They left 2 commercial dehumidifiers and an air mover in my basement when they left because the person they sent out said "I don't have room for them on my truck." I called them one week later on a Thursday morning to complain to their customer service representative, Linda. Linda said "I'll be here until 4:30 today. Give me an hour to look into it and I'll call you back." She had Jasmine call me to schedule a time to pick up their equipment the next day. I called Linda back the next day, Friday, at 3:30 when I didn't hear back from her and her response "I handled it. They're coming to pick up the equipment and Tom, the project manager, is coming to inspect everything and make sure it is completed to your satisfaction".I asked what about all the other issues (too numerous here to mention and work still isn't completed even though I missed 3 days of work for them and after 4 trips to my house ) Her response, "Oh I didn't hear this." Really, you didn't hear me tell you any of this yesterday?" Her response "I was listening to what you said, I was just getting ready to call you. I spoke to Brian, which is what I'm supposed to do and he said it was a scheduling mix up one day. We want to give you a gift certificate to a restaurant." While I was literally in the middle of a sentence, she said "hold on and abruptly transferred me to Jasmine, who had no idea why she had transferred me. I asked Jasmine to let me speak to the owner. She transferred me to a generic voicemail that may have been the janitor for all I know. I now wish I had kept their equipment and sold it on e-bay to pay someone else to finish the job, because they obviously had no idea it had been sitting in my basement for a week until I notified them. Ironic how quickly they sent someone to pick up their equipment. Guess who did NOT show up on Friday to pick up the equipment and do an inspection. You got it, Tom. Instead, they sent Ron and 2 helpers, because according to Ron, "he was in the area when they called him." This is not a list of the things that went wrong, only the poor customer service I received when trying to get report the problems and get them resolved. I have wasted enough time and energy with this company to bother listing everything from day one til today. As a side note, I tried to leave this on their website, but it wouldn't allow me and I still have not received a call from Mr. Singer. I guess the note with my contact information fell off his door (Great way for a company to communicate BTW. ServiceMaster was referred to me via my insurance agency as a preferred vendor following a claim I submitted in August 2016 following significant water damage to my town home in Gaithersburg. It is now approaching January and in the last 6 months they've turned over 3 PM's and have only demo'd my dwelling and cabinets and flooring have been sitting in my home in boxes due to their incompetence. I finally complained to my insurance company who promptly fired them and allowed me to sign up my own contractor. ServiceMaster contacted me to assess the amount of work they'd completed and wanted to pick up the cabinets they ordered and return them. I left a key under the door and the Tech couldn't open the door. Literally, he couldn't turn a key to get into my home. I left work to assist only to find out when I got home that they had left. I tried the key, door opened first time. This company has cost me thousands of dollars in unrealized rental income. My only regret is not complaining sooner and getting them off the job earlier. I'm in the service industry and am very understanding about how things can get backed up and delayed, but this has been the biggest disappointment in a service in my recent memory and felt compelled to let others know.
