Brunch at Sequoia with my movie crew was the perfect way to spend the day in DC. We had been talking about coming back for years, so everyone was excited to finally make it happen. The $90 brunch spread was absolutely worth it--beautiful seafood displays, cocktails, sweets, and more food than we could possibly finish. Everything tasted fresh, well-prepared, and plentiful without sacrificing quality. One thing that really stood out was the service. One of my friends doesn't drink, and our server went out of their way to create a special Caribbean-inspired mocktail just for him so he could still feel included in the fun. Such a thoughtful touch and exactly the kind of hospitality that makes an experience memorable. The team stayed attentive throughout the entire meal, and we never had to wait for anything. Water glasses stayed full, plates were cleared quickly, and the pacing of everything felt seamless even with how busy brunch service can get. By the time we left, we were completely stuffed and happy before heading down the street to AMC for the Michael Jackson film. I genuinely hate writing this because Sequoia used to be one of my go-to spots. It wasn't just a restaurant--it was a reliable, high-energy waterfront hang. I biked there after work, brought friends, celebrated a birthday with 40 people. It delivered. That version of Sequoia doesn't exist anymore. What's replaced it feels confused at best--and increasingly indifferent to its customers. Start with the menu. Signature items quietly disappearing (RIP the fried chicken) is one thing--but replacing them with a lineup that feels completely out of sync with the setting is another. The bigger issue is the so-called "happy hour," which has been rebranded into a 3-5pm "midday special." Let's be honest: that's not happy hour. That's an early bird special for people who don't have jobs with normal hours. By the time most people get there, it's over. Calling it anything else feels misleading. And the vibe? Gone. Who is ordering spaghetti, rigatoni, grilled chicken paillard, or a salad while standing at a bar with friends? Where are the finger foods? But what really stood out--and not in a good way--was the staff experience. When we asked basic questions about drink specials, the bartender was dismissive and didn't know the pricing. When we escalated to the general manager, Des Comer, the response was worse: condescending, vague, and centered around "data" supposedly driving these decisions--only to later acknowledge there isn't actually data yet to support the changes. That disconnect was frustrating and clearly a misrepresentation to us. Meanwhile, multiple spots steps away on the Georgetown waterfront are doing exactly what Sequoia used to do well: clear, compelling happy hour offerings at times people can actually attend. This isn't just a few bad changes--it feels like a place that has lost its identity and stopped listening to its customers. I hope they turn it around. But right now, there's no reason to come back--and that's something I never thought I'd say. read more

Went to the Sunday brunch for my wife's birthday. We were the 10:00 seating which is when they were first setting up. We were politely greeted and taken to our seat. The server walked us around the buffet and explained the offerings. There are tons of amazing dishes, too much to try them all. You have to be strategic! Everything we ate was great, all fresh of near-fresh. Would definitely recommend. It is expensive but worth it for a special occasion. read more

Attended a private event here. The space is beautiful with amazing views of the harbour. They did an excellent job with the event. Appetizer were in constant rotation and they walked around. The bar had great drink selections, and even provided a smokey old fashion that was being walked around. The entertainment was fun, with a mentalist, and she was beyond amazing, with her husband as her partner, they were awesome people and a lot of fun. I know this review on the event space but if ever get a chance check out Evansons, Mentalist duo! The staff kept our food hot and always full, Buffett style. Which was all good. The risotto was so good, and loved the salmon! Also tried a butternut squash soup with ginger marshmallows, oh my just stellar. I thought it was going to be too sweet, but it was not. 9/26/2025 dinner visit This is really a 3.5 rating, but I couldn't bring myself to round up as I don't feel it's warranted. Sequoia is a beautiful and large restaurant; we opted to sit outside as it was a nice night and soon it will be cold to do that. Although the outside is beautiful, overlooking the water, and boats, I was thrown by the loud music playing at the bar. In my mind, Sequoia is a nice and more sophisticated restaurant, but the outdoor vibe did not match my assumption which to be fair could be a wrong assumption. After a delay we were greeted by our server who apologized for the wait and our dinner journey began. My hubby started with an Old Fashioned which he said was fine, but nothing to write home about. We ordered the chicken pesto flatbread as an appetizer and it was pretty good, we felt like something was missing though - not exactly sure what, maybe a touch of salt? For our entrees we got - lobster and shrimp salad (me) and the center cut filet mignon (my hubby). My salad was really good and heavy on the seafood which was much appreciated, it was very fresh and filling. My hubby's steak was good, he said it was tender and cooked well, but felt it lacked flavor; however, the asparagus that came with it was delicious. Service was excellent & lunch portions were huge and prices very reasonable. We started with a warm cranberry nut bread plate; it was amazing. Coming to Sequoia for a work Christmas party is a real treat, because you have an opportunity to relish in exceptional food, company, and a view of the water. While it was dark while we dined I found myself regularly looking out over the Potomac, and I imagine this location is perfect in the summer and spring for enjoying the sites. Our servers were exceptional and gave us every bit of attention our large party needed. The seafood tower I wish I had gotten a picture of before folks attacked it, but it was beautiful and covered in such variety of crustaceans. The grilled octopus on a bed of hummus was a really nice twist I had not tried before, and the branzino was delightful (just watch out for those pesky bones that stay behind). read more

My best friend and I came to this beautiful establishment, over the summer when she visited and the party in my mouth for those hours there is indescribable. We went for their Sunday unlimited brunch. Total for brunch, including taxes and gratuity is about $130. This is deep, I know. But in my opinion, it is totally worth it. You have access to a seafood tower bar, omelette making station, including premium meats; fresh waffle station, fresh fettuccine Alfredo pasta station, crabcake making station, taco station and several other food options including dessert- freshly made live and bottomless mimosas and Bellinis. I was in the area visiting for 4 days and came here twice because the service was that AMAZING! I don't know about parking near because we had parked farther away and were just walking along the boardwalk area and decided we would stop at Sequoia and hit the outside bar while we waited for our boat tour! Got out drink order and through our whole time at the bar, gave great recommendations of things to do in the area and had such witty banter! He recommended that we come back for Sunday brunch and we did just that! We made a reservation because it gets very busy and I don't know if they even take walk in's if they are booked with reservations. We were seated right away and Veronica came over and explained to us how the buffet works and took our drink orders which was mimosas. The mimosas are included in the price of the buffet, so drink up! The buffet is glorious! They have everything from omelette station, to taco station, to raw bar, to sushi, and on! There is so much selection that even picky eaters will enjoy it! Everything I ate was delicious! I only have one critique...at the pasta station, they have a cheese wheel, but the pasta wasn't warm enough to melt the cheese and give it that velvety texture as I have had at other places. But cheese is always good, so I still thought it was delicious! Veronica was the highlight to our day! She is funny, attentive and fantastic at customer service. Hmm. So, I came here for my cousin birthday dinner on a Thursday night. The service was really good and the staff were pretty nice. I heard a lot about this place but I guess we came on a slow day .. well we in fact did lol because not that many people were there. This is a pretty classy restaurant. The drinks were very good! I ordered the blueberry mojito. It was tasty but it could've used a bit more alcohol I switched my vegetable out and got asparagus instead. My food was OKAY. I did not like the sauce on the short rib. It was not for me and that is why I'm giving this restaurant 3 stars. I would have gave it a 3.5. We had the lobster flatbread for an appetizer and it was pretty good. I would definitely come back to experience a brunch here. Cool Sunday Brunch spot. If buffets are not your thing, you will not enjoy Sunday brunch at this spot. Bottomless food and bottomless drinks on certain drinks - mimosa, Bloody Mary, non alcoholic drinks. If you want anything else, you will pay for those drinks. All the food was great. I did not try any of the egg dishes but all of it looked good. The sushi was presented well and served by the staff which I appreciated - it was the only thing I remembered to take a photo of. The drink service was a tad slow but overall, cool spot. There is indoor and outdoor seating. The buffet is on a half floor so there are stairs you have to ascend and descend - to and from the food. Essentially a mini workout which I also appreciate. Music isn't too loud and there is a two hour time limit on the food and drink. More than enough time to try everything. Parking is tough, this place is right on the water. Probably better to Uber anyways because of the bottomless drinks. read more

For our first visit, we elected to eat outside but wanted to check the view first and a rude female sever tells us we need to talk to the host before eating outside. We were standing near the doors. Her tone was nasty and she kept walking. After we still decided to eat outside, she makes a comment to her friend as we're seated. After taking our drink order she says nothing and walks off instead of explaining the buffet. That's when we got up and decided to eat inside. The food was ok but so many details are missing. The vibe does not feel welcoming. Mandatory tip is fine but I would've had an issue if was with our original server. Would not return. read more

We hit some traffic on the way there so my guest and I didn't get there until 2:30pm and brunch is over at 3pm. Veronica was very helpful in explaining the menu options and had a welcoming attitude. Our family used to come here about a decade ago and it was fantastic -- unfortunately it has gone down hill. However, to start with a positive note, the service was good. Other than that though, pretty much everything was a huge disappointment. My brother had to send his steak (that he ordered medium rare) back because it was completely gray/brown, and they brought it back "well done" for the second time -- not worth sending it back again. The filets my mom & grandmother ordered were also not cooked to order (both ordered medium rare, they came medium well). The bread, which the waiters pushed a little too hard and only came with 4 rolls, cost $6. Even tourist trap restaurants like Le Dip & Filomena, of comparable cost and arguably wayyy better food, do free bread. I will say shockingly the guacamole was tasty (serving size abysmal though). And the salmon was cooked properly & tasted fine. But the tab for 6 people was $750. For the quality of food that was received, that's absurd. I will sadly not be returning. You can get way better seafood for way cheaper. Hell, go down to Farmers, Fishers & Bakers in the same building and it's 10X as good for 1/4 of the cost. read more

For years, I considered Sequoia as a happy hour place. Especially on warmer days, its layered terraces offer some of the best people/boat watching on Georgetown waterfront. Admittedly, I had never peaked interest, until I saw an Instagram post where person after person commented that, if they had to pick one D.C. bottomless brunch that would be Sundays at Sequoia. Since it is festive season, they also have various holiday-themed special brunches. We lucked out big time with our server, who went above and beyond with her friendliness, attentiveness, and timely refills. This brunch is not cheap. But it comes with the largest buffet I've seen in the area. Think of a massive hotel/conference center style room filled with hot and cold food stations. Seafood towers, inclusive of snow crab legs. Prime rib carving. A sushi and poke bowl section. Freshly made tacos and much more. Drinks, both mimosas and coffee/tea, are also included. My favorite brunch in DC! Sequoia is nestled next to the waterfront in Georgetown. When you enter the restaurant, the ambiance of the restaurant itself is breathtaking, especially with the floor to ceiling windows. If you're lucky, try to be seated next to the windows so you can get a view of the gorgeous waterfront while you're dining. The restaurant itself is spacious. We were greeted by our server once we were sat who was super king and attentive. He made sure that our glasses were always full since we did the bottomless mimosas. The buffet itself is extensive and the options plentiful. My favorite dish were the crab cakes which were simply delicious. Ambience is great as it's outside on the Potomac River. The food is so so there were a lot of bugs when we were there because they had all the lights on and they couldn't dim them. The staff was so so we used to come here when we were in our 30s and 40s and it was fun to reminisce and see all the people on the beautiful sites. When we arrived, the restaurant seemed not ready to accept patrons. a number of tables were still dirty from. brunch. the staff was noisily talking among themselves as they cleaned the restaurant. The waiters were overly exuberant and intrusive at our table and the service was very slow considering there were only two parties in the restaurant. The food was mediocre and seemed pre-prepared and over cooked, and swimming in sauce. We have been enjoying this restaurant for 30 years and it has definitely declined precipitously. I've dined at Sequoia plenty of times with good experiences with their brunch buffet, outdoor dining, and outdoor bar. The food undoubtedly is delicious. Perhaps the best part of the experience are the beautiful interior and gorgeous view of the Potomac River and Washington Harbor on the Georgetown waterfront. What keeps this place from getting a 5*, in my opinion, is the customer service. The customer service isn't terrible, however, it's not 5* customer service. From the bar staff, maitre D, and staff who don't have primary engagement with diners, the experience could be better which is disappointing because the other aspects of their operation is stellar. The staff simply seem to "work" without really making efforts to engage diners or offer a 5* experience outside of simply taking food and drink orders. If dining outside or at the bar I recommend arriving early on Friday nights and weekends because as I mentioned, people want the prime views and bar space. Overall a good experience. As far as dining is concerned, I'll probably stick with eating at the bar. Give them a try. read more

Decor is understated elegance with modern ceiling light. Tables are covered in pressed table cloth, the right amount of romantic and social gathering ambiance. My friend ordered chilled lobster and shrimp salad which came with mango salsa and sauce and second sriracha vinaigrette. The New England chowder soup was divine according to my friend. I ordered the chicken chimichurri and grilled shrimp with coconut rice with black beans. Heavenly! Right amount of seasoning, perfectly grilled luscious good sized shrimps on a skewer. We started off the New Year with the holiday brunch at Sequoia and it didn't disappoint. Their bottomless brunches on the weekend are always amazing, but for the holiday they brought out items not typical of a weekend brunch. There was a dumpling station, Peking duck station, taco station, pasta station etc. I was able to try a bit of everything for almost every station and everything was full of flavor and fresh. They even had sushi and a poke bowl station. The dessert spread was larger than usual and everything was made in perfect bite sizes to try it all. We also did the bottomless mimosas and our glasses never got even remotely empty before they were already being filled. Sequoia has always been a 5 star rating on regular weekend brunches, but they are def a 5 star rating on holiday brunches and worth the additional price you pay for the holiday given the elevated food. read more
