I had a "tale of two experiences" at this Sephora location today. I came in specifically for a hair product and ended up seeing both the worst and the best of what retail service has to offer. The Issue: Upon entering, I approached two employees who were busy chatting. I politely interrupted to ask for a specific product. Instead of showing me to the shelf, one of them just pointed vaguely toward an entire side of the store and said, "That will be over there." I spent several minutes wandering around unable to find it. It was disappointing to see staff prioritizing a personal Starbucks delivery over actually helping a guest on the floor. The Recovery: Everything changed when I went up to the front and spoke to a cashier named Helen. I showed her a photo of the product, and she didn't just point--she immediately told me exactly where it was and then walked over to assist me personally. She checked in to make sure I found everything I needed and was incredibly professional and kind. Final Verdict: If you visit this location, look for Helen. She is an African American woman who clearly understands what real customer service looks like. She saved the trip, but management should definitely look into the floor staff's lack of engagement. read more

I had an uncomfortable interaction with Jessica during my visit. From the moment I walked up, the energy felt off. I didn't ask about a return policy or anything related to that, yet she immediately started loudly explaining the return policy to me, which felt unnecessary and made the interaction awkward. What made it more frustrating is that I had reward points available that could have been used toward my purchase, and I had to remind her about it. That's something staff should normally mention to customers so they can save a few dollars. I also noticed that right before helping me she seemed very bubbly and friendly with other customers, but when it came to my interaction the tone was completely different. As a paying customer, I expect to be treated with the same courtesy and professionalism as everyone else. Customer service should feel welcoming and consistent for everyone. I hope management addresses this because experiences like that can really leave a bad impression. read more

The worst customer service I've received at any Sephora location. Came in wanting to find a perfume which I eventually did. I went to ask the cashier who was on her phone for help, she went to find the perfume but wasn't successful so she called someone else to help me instead (it was easier for her to go back to her cashier and be on her phone again). The person never showed up to help me so I went to find another employee. This other employee was not in the best of moods either but still got the job done, went to find me the perfume... If you're not happy where you are working at why work there? This location needs better, friendly, polite people. I would have bought foundation this day, but I decided not to stay there any longer. The second time I was told to leave since they had just gotten robbed. This is my third time coming here for a quick return, there were 12 people in line with 1 person checking out with no one else the whole time. I asked the bald guy with star tattoo's on his head if there will be another person since it was taking a while. He gave me so much attitude. This store sure has a way to make you feel very uncomfortable. I went in today to pick up an online order I made for my daughter. She wanted to gift one of her teachers a lip gloss. Based on my previous interactions ( not good and felt judged the store), I opted to do a pick up where I will just walk in and pick up my products that I paid for online and leave. When I pulled into the parking spot in front of the store, I noticed a guy standing in front of Sephora ( black guy about 5 foot 11 long beard) and he was on his phone. I figured he was security, no big deal. I just thought it was very interesting that he was on his phone instead of working. So I walked into the store and against my better judgment I went to go look at more lip products. Now I'm a medical professional ( I even had my scrubs on when I was in today as this event took place), and I pay great attention to detail out of habit, and I noticed that he walked into the store just as I did and in the section where I was in was in his direct line of site. OK fine so when I finish in the lip section, I went over to the section where they have the merit brand and wanted to smell their fragrance. He just so happens to be in that section and as soon as I got up to the section very close to him, he decided to leave the section. Mind you he's still on his phone talking to someone. At that point, I was annoyed, went up to the cash register paid for my lip balm, and picked up the products I ordered online. At that point as I'm walking out I noticed he still on his phone by the door and walks out of the store as soon as I did. And I thought to myself that that was really odd and I felt singled out. So he went in as I went in and walked out when I was done in the store. I sat in my car answering work emails which took a minute and the whole time he was still outside on his phone, glancing over at me, which annoyed me even further. He was literally in front of my car where I can see him and he can see me very clearly. This was so bothersome to me. I can't even shop in peace. I have no reason or need to steal anything! This just left another bad taste in my mouth for this location. Actually a bad taste in my mouth for Sephora. If things are so bad with theft then maybe a change in how things are presented or security tags or stickers should be implemented, but not to make the customer feel very uncomfortable in the store especially when they're only in for five minutes. Staff that work there are absolutely wonderful. Depending on the time and day can be a little busy. For the most part they do a decent job trying to keep their store organized and stocked. If things look disarrayed it's due to the customers not giving a dam and messing shit up. I witnessed a lady put her fingers all over the make up and tossed her tissue on the floor. So rude!!! I came here hoping to be matched for foundation after over a decade of wearing the same one that no longer matched. I previously picked out a shade but I wasn't confident it was right, so I returned for assistance. As soon as I walked in, Amalia welcomed me and asked if she could help. She spent a lot of time with me, testing different colors and explaining shades. She found the perfect shade for me in 2 different foundations and even emailed me my "Color iQ" (Sephora's recommendations for similar shades in other brands). We also discussed lip stains and Amalia recommended the best ones in my price point and showed me similar colors across different brands. Amalia was very helpful, nice, patient and knowledgeable. She took her time and I didn't feel rushed. I was able to pick out exactly what I needed and I'm now confident that what I purchased is right for me. read more

I came in today to pick up some sunscreen at Marina Square Sephora. I noticed samples out on display again and asked if they were back doing color matches. The cashier said yes and introduced me to Diana. She was amazing. Kind and patient and took the time to go through multiple different shades until we found one that complimented my skin tone. She was extremely knowledgeable and helped me pick out concealer, blush and bronzer, all that worked for my skin type and condition. Best of all she showed me how to apply each product, and I now know I've been doing it wrong all along! I'm super disappointed in this Sephora location, especially because I was so excited to have one closer to home. This location is smaller than most, but makes sense since it's not in a major city, but it is in a highly trafficked shopping center. But not only is it small, their stock was so limited! They were out of so many items and it seemed like it was the norm for them. Also, the floor person Caitlyn was GREAT! She is the only reason this review isn't one star. She was super helpful, knowledgeable and kind. She had great recommendations, had personal experience with products and asked great questions to be able to make appropriate recommendations. The cashier, however, was not helpful or kind, and seemed like she was just trying to get us out of the store! I think I'd rather drive to Emeryville or wait until I make it out to Stoneridge before coming back here, and it's only 5 minutes from my house :/ read more

During the holidays I visited quite a few locations in the Bay Area for some last minute xmas shopping and I must say this one had the best customer service, friendly staff and inventory. I was welcomed upon entry, the staff helped me find everything I was looking for...and one of the ladies even asked if I needed to get my color matched for foundation!
