I've been storing my stuff at Security Public storage for several years and it's mostly been a great experience. The owner is very friendly. The rest of the staff is generally good though they sometimes ask you to come back or call on a weekday if they don't know how to do something. The prices and hours are decent. There is parking on the street right in front reserved for storage customers and there's an empty lot across the street that I've parked in. They provide plenty of heavy duty carts. Only once has the elevator ever been broken down. The only problem I've ever had is dust. A few years ago they did construction and didn't properly section off the areas they were working on. I have an older unit with a section of wire mesh at the top of the walls so all my stuff got dusty. They tried to make good by offering cleaning services but I couldn't be present during the times they were available so I had to pass. Since then the floors in the hallways have been dusty enough to get your belongings dirty. I don't know if the newer units are constructed differently. read more

I had never stored my stuff in storage before, but after hearing and reading about other people's bad experiences with poorly managed storage facilities, I didnt want to sacrifice cleanliness and safety for a lower price. I went with Security Public Storage because of the great reviews and am so glad I did! It's super clean, safe & well-lit, and the customer service is outstanding! I needed to move my stuff out of my apartment, and I had scheduled my move for noon on Sunday. However, my movers had a job before me that took way longer than expected, and didn't get started on my move until 3pm. Security Public Storage closes at 4pm on Sundays, and by 3:30 pm, only half my stuff was in the truck. I told Charles about my situation, and he kept the facility open for another hour so I could finish my move!!! (Note: This does not mean y'all should try this stunt too!) That is seriously going above and beyond, and I'm so incredibly grateful. Fantastic customer service.. I highly recommend! read more

Here's a little story: One of my best friends moved out of the country years ago, and left some stuff here in SF. The key was passed down to me over the past year and since I'll be moving far away myself in the next week, I had to get moving on getting her stuff out of the storage unit and shipped to her home country. Working with Charles, the manager, was a joy. He was very pleasant and extremely helpful, going above and beyond the normal call of duty (helping me get into the unit when the door got stuck, helping me operate the freight elevator, saving a parking spot outside of the facilities while i loaded my car and being an overall AWESOME help with the large/heavy boxes I had to lift into my car). He didn't need to do any of that, but he did and with a smile no less. The items I bought from him were very reasonably priced and the facilities are clean and secure. There's double security access in the facilities, first a front door lock and your own bolt lock for the unit. There are carts for everyone's use and security cameras everywhere. I'm not sure how much my friend paid every month for her unit, but I'm sure it was well worth it. The facility is located in a central area between Castro/Hayes Valley and the Van Ness/Market merge. read more

Wow, I truly am impressed with the professionalism, customer service, security and overall friendliness of this place. Charles at the counter especially has a fantastic way of making one of life's more challenging and stressful times as pleasant as possible. I helped a friend move her items here because it was in a relatively easy and safe spot and the price point match her budget. We came a day early to select a spot and Charles showed us a few spaces based on the needs she had. my friend got in on a deal that cut the price by 25% a month for 4 months. The facility itself is clean, secure and always has ample carts to move your loads of boxes and items. Finding parking is hit or miss but when I came with the movers, it was Charles again to the rescue! I told him approximately what time we would be there and of course we arrived much later than expected. I don't know if he does this for all the new customers, but he had strategically placed orange cones by the doors so that I could pull in as close as possible with a 14ft U-haul. It was like reserved parking for us! Charles even helped me get the U-haul situated so that we maximized the use of the ramp and the space and were as close to the doors as we could be. Like I said, the friendly and attentive staff here make the visit a pleasant one! read more

I love Security Public Storage. It was truly one of the best decisions I ever made to store my stuff in there. Charles is incredibly friendly, professional, and a total sweetheart. Yeah, you can find cheaper places to store your stuff, but as someone who doesn't have a car, this was my best option. I've had to go back to my storage unit so many times (my life is complicated) and every time I did I breathed a sigh of relief and said to myself, "I'm so glad I decided to store it here." It's easy to get to and it's secure (you create your own code and everything). Very happy with them. The cost is worth it for the peace of mind and ease of access in my book. read more

I tried to make a last minute here at Security Public Storage. All I had to store was a mattress and a standing lamp. It would have been easy for them to just tell me that they didn't have a spot for me, but Charles really went out of his way to try and make it work. Of the two available rooms, one was just barely too small and the other was much too big, so in the end I didn't get one at all. But I really appreciated Charles showing me both units and even helping me lift the mattress out of my truck and up the elevator to try and squeeze it into the smaller unit, and then not trying to push me to buy the bigger one. That's great service. Oh and by the way Charles, you we're right: I did end up stacking my mattress on my boyfriend's and it worked out just fine. read more

The place and all of the units are clean, well lit, and climate controlled, which was crucial for me. The security is top notch, with basically 3 layers of security. I used this place in the mid 2000's (2004 ish) so naturally it was my first choice upon moving back to the city. Yes there are maybe a few homeless here and there but they are homeless and I havent seen anyone camping in a unit yet. 99 percent of homeless are relativley safe. Its the crackheads one must watch. I just closed out my rental of a 10'x5'10' (long and narrow, almost 10' tall) storage unit that I've been renting since the late 90s. I rented part of another tenant's space in the same unit until 2002, when I took it over until now. When I first rented my unit, the building and storage interior was much older looking, and the rent was cheaper of course. Since then, the prices have slowly gone up but the building has improved as well - a security code system, new walls and storage units and nicer front office. They've also made the billing service highly automated; I like getting these reminders/advance notices that a deduction will be made, even if its in our rental agreement. This SPS has a very low vacancy rate, probably due to its Hayes Valley location and the improved building and services. One thing that has stayed the same is SPS making sure storage tenants can park right in front of the building where traffic cones indicate the loading/unloading area. Someone else might be using it but it always helps if you've got a big load. They don't have a private parking lot. Another consistent thing is the service - Charles is the most recent manager (has been there a few years) and although they've changed a few things he is always willing to help facilitate getting your 'stuff' in and out of the building. If you really need a storage unit and live nearby, I recommend renting here if you can get a space! Otherwise, I'd advise thinking critically about whether you really do need a storage unit, the value of the items in it, and the long term costs of storing your 'stuff'. It's not a cheap 'investment' but that's a personal decision you have to make. Good luck! read more

This was my second contract with them, so I trusted it from my prior experience. However, they greatly improved it - from nicer facilities to a nicer office. The storage was exactly what I needed, even as I began to move things out for donation or setup. They have a variety of options to suit your budget and are clear about the changes to an account, or fees. They make it so easy - and provide awesome service the moment you walk to their desk for help. They offered an automatic payment setup, which helped ensure I would not forget to stop by or call for payment. The setup is very secure - and I appreciate the lengths they go through to ensure safety of your things, i.e., you have to enter your own PIN before entry and exit. Even with their limited hours, it seems to be a safety measure to ensure someone is always there monitoring and providing customer service. Highly recommend! read more

Just finished my second time renting a unit. My wife and I were in the process of moving out of a nearby building, and needed storage for some temperature sensitive items (printer, photos, papers) that Err feared might be damaged in our main storage unit, which was much more exposed to temperature swings. Their basement units, while not climate controlled, stay at a very steady cool temperature, which was ideal. The also have pretty good security, with door sensors on each unit, and each unit has a code to enter, exit, and use the elevator. If a unit is opened without an entry code active, the staff is alerted. We got a small unit, maybe 6x4x8. The first three months were half off, due to the passport discount program my work participates in. We had our stuff there for four months, and just moved it all out on January 12th. Our stuff felt safe, we had no problems, and the staff was always helpful and easy to talk to. Recommended. read more
