They had a good selection of dusty, dirty, faucets that you could wipe off with a rag....and take to the counter to pay a fair price. (lower than Depot or Lowes) The problem here is....once you walk out the door.....regarding returns.....you have to pay a 20% restocking fee. I returned a box with new faucet parts that hadn't been opened...within 10 days....and it cost me $40. Obviously....I will never be back......regardless of the selection. read more

Cheap bathroom, kitchen, flooring etc place I have found for remodeling or purchases. It's like TJ-Maxx once the items they get sells then they will not get another shipment of the same thing in. Did I mention cheaper then Home Depot, Lowes and some things are cheaper then Ikea. Give it a look! read more

Needed 100 square feet of out of production flooring, could not find it anywhere, David Yates of hg radio suggested I call seconds and surplus. They didn't have it in stock but searched until they found it, even for a small order. Upon going to their store i was amazed at the selection of things they stock and much easier to do business with than the big box stores. read more

Worst customer service ever. They are polite and smile to your face but lie at the same time. In person, I ordered 2 doors, different sizes after I couldn't place an order on the phone or online. I was called and told they were ready. They don't deliver so I drove 45 minutes to pick them up. When I arrived they brought out 2 doors, same size, admitted their mistake and said they would have to order the right size. 10 minutes away from home I get a message that said they actually had the right size all along but mis-tagged it with someone elses name. I told them their mistake - twice - I was not traveling back out there to pick it up and they needed to deliver it i.e. good customer service. Marcell who smiled and said he would take responsibility was coming in on his day off today and would deliver himself. He called in sick so no delivery but Oscar sajd they would deliver in 6 days. Not acceptable. He said he would take to Jesse the manager and call back. 5 hours later I called back and he lied saying he called but they would give me less than $20 credit to pick up myself. This is for an 82 mile round trip. Horrible, horrible. read more

Out of towners shopping for remodel material....I honestly didn't expect a whole lot, but I was incredibly mistaken. The prices on flooring and doors were worth the trip, but the sinks were a bonus (bought two). The service was INCREDIBLE! As a matter of fact, we later went to another of their locations to find the same amazing service... Not kidding- we were that impressed. We even stopped the manager to tell him- he was very appreciative and humble. :) We had our small dog with us which they welcomed with treats, so she showed off a little bit. I highly recommend this business to anyone looking for more than box store service and prices. read more

This place is THE BEST. We recently purchased a home with an unfinished patio and knew we wanted to tile it. After lots of research and visiting several other stores, we stumbled across Seconds & Surplus. They have not only the best prices but a huge selection. Sharon Kellerhouse was extremely helpful, even after we asked her 1000 questions and came back to the store three more times. We were so happy with our decision to use them. Also, we got lots of great ideas for future updates to our new home just by walking by their displays. They are all over you when you are in the store to make a purchase but try returning something or contact them over the phone to get help and they probably rank one of the worst in that department. If you are looking for counter tops, doors, cabinets, and so forth this is a fairly inexpensive store. All the sales people work on commission so don't expect a nonchalant employee helping you. They need to sell, sell, sell to make a paycheck - this is the one thing I don't like about this chain - they have about 3 locations I think. They do not offer 2" x 4" studs, plywood, or other building materials like Lowes and Home Depot. Just the big items you would pay more for at the places I just mentioned. They also provide Installation as well. The also offer granite counter tops for bathrooms with installation as well. Hope this helps someone. read more

As we returned home, after being away for a few weeks, we discovered 5 rooms of our home had flooded due to a severe leak. We felt overwhelmed with the aspect of remodeling. That's when LORI TILLEY came to our rescue. Her friendliness, expertise, professionalism, product knowledge, patience, ability to listen and genuine concern helped us tremendously in designing our kitchen remodel. In this day and time, it's such a blessing to find a large company who truly cares for their customers -- not just in what they say but in how they show it! Lori patiently "went the extra mile" as we struggled over colors, cabinets choices, etc. but we never dreamed how much until the store was about to close. Knowing her kitchen design co-worker had left about the time we arrived, I thanked her for her being so kind and helping us even though I suspected she may have stayed alittle late. To our complete surprise, she said she was actually suppose to leave two hours earlier! Her body language, her mood, her tone, her effort never once gave us the impression that she needed to leave! I highly recommend Seconds & Surplus not only for their vast selection, their prices, but for the way they care and treat their customers. read more

We just now bought a bathtub from here and Sharon in particular was a great help. She went the extra mile for us, gave us a really good deal and was then available even after the sale. We also bought a shower door a year ago from this location and they recommended an installer that picked up the door for us and delivered it, then did a great job on the installation. Don't be afraid to ask if they carry something if you don't see it right away. They make great use of the space there and things could be stored somewhere other than the section you are looking at. read more

*****Please read the entore review as there are updates at the end. ***** Purchased our quartz countertops and sink from them which included installation based on price, selection, timing and the sales person that helped us at the Arapaho store. Installers did a good job on the countertops, but the sink I still question. After they left, I noticed the sink was being held up with two boards on each side attached at an angle from the side of the cabinet to the sink. I called Michelle at the main office a few days later and left a message. When i hadn't heard from her, I called back and she indicated she had been on vacation. I forwarded her the pictures and she said she would check with the installer and call me back. A week later I had not heard anything so I called back. When I got a hold of Michelle she said, "Let me talk to the installer". When she came back, she said the installer told her "That initially they used the brackets that came with the sink, but they had problems with them not holding. In 14 years they have never had problems with the wooden blocks." I told her that looked funky, no response from Michelle. Still not convinced that is the best option they can come up with. Lesson learned. I'll also add that after I signed the contract, I noticed the priced I was charged was $2.00 per square foot more than what was displayed at the store. I brought this up with Michelle, but again, no response. I will mention I have bought several doors from them, and based on the price I was satisfied with the purchase. Will not purchase anything from them in the future that requires installation, nor will I recommend to friends. I already have enough enemies. ***** Update 02/28/2016 ***** Less than a week after posting this review, I received two messages and an e-mail from Mike at the main office.When I finally caught with him the first words out of his mouth were, "We owe you an apology." He apologized for the lack of communication which was at the root of the problem, plus the lack of response on the refund.Bottom line, I have changed my rating to Five Stars based on the follow-up, as well as the emphasis on customer service. Will definitely consider them in the future when requiring installation. read more

Stay Away! Probably the worst experience I've ever had with a company! Had placed an order of over $3000 dollars of kitchen cabinets to have them delivered to my home. Half the cabinets were busted and broken upon delivery. I called Monica from the store and she was able to send out new cabinets for no charge, which was great. A few months later when we started to remodel we realized we wanted to change a few cabinets and instead of having them delivered we decided to drive out to Richardson from San Antonio because we needed them ASAP and didn't want to worry about damaged cabinets. Long story short they gave us the wrong cabinets because they were labeled wrong. We called the store and had them tell us that we could drive 290 miles one way there to have them swap it out with no reimbursement or we could pay out of pocket for the cabinets to be shipped out! It baffles my mind that someone in customer service would say that! Like I said, stay away from them as a company... read more

Buy at your own risk!!! The owner Richard flat out told me that! I bought 1100sqt worth of engineer wood from them and to found out that it was defective. The guy who inspect my floor told me that the owner knew all along but he continue to sell it to the customers. When I came to confront him he doesn't seem to care. He made several statements that pissed me off. He asked me "what do you think second and surplus is? , buy at your own risk" after 6 months of dispute I decided to take legal action and he decided to refund my money but NOT LABOR! read more

S&S gives the impression you can save money but what a nightmare to work with, even with their finance company which was a whole other story and should have been a sign to go elsewhere but like everything else we found with S&S, they don't care. Employee "L" we found out later has a reputation for being an idiot and messing things up. Our order was placed for kitchen cabinets with her at the beginning of last Nov. Expecting a 3-4 week turnaround we were surprised to hear her say it would not be done until the week of Christmas. Our Contractor called S&S manager and we were told they would see what they could do to speed it up. Fine, even though we knew nothing would happen (and we were right). Right after Christmas, a call was made to find out where our cabinets were, "L" said it would be mid January and that she never told us it would be Dec, even though she told us and our contractor the same thing, just denials no apology and through the process never taking any responsibility. Eventually the cabinets came in and they were wrong. The one thing we told her we wanted was easy close cabinets and drawers, none were done correctly (she blamed our contractor stating he approved it, contractor never gave any such approval). One of the cabinets wasn't even close to a fit so our contractor had to recut and fix the cabinet we just paid for. L and the management were not concerned and never was there an apology or an effort to correct their horrible customer service. In fact one of the frosted glass cabinets was scratched and they were to replace it, a month later we called to get a status and were told by "L", "Oh I forgot". Again no apologies or efforts to make amends. This was our first and last time using S&S. I am appalled at the horrible staff working there and the fact that other people know who we are talking about says a lot about how poorly managed this store is, apparently this employee has a reputation for bad service and nothing has been done about it. You would think with such a mess made by their employee, management would have at some point reached out to at least apologize. The cost would have been worth it for good service and a good product (which we got neither) but what little if any savings might have been made in using them was not worth the long frustrating process. Now I know why so many people only shop at S&S once. Save yourself the frustration and don't do it. read more

I bought slabs of quartz, sinks, faucets and other items from this location. Josh helped me pick out each item which were very attractive, well made and saved me tons of money! Flor helped ring me up and Richard (store manager) assisted with the rest. I can't say enough good things about this store. While you pay less for quality items, you certainly don't get cheap quality or service. Save yourself time and money and get all of your shopping done here! read more

They designed mom's kitchen rebuild in house and then had her choose from a list of contractors to do the work. The design was done without enough room to fit her 36" fridge with any clearance, and then the contractor, S&S Design, wedged the fridge in so tight that you can't slip a piece of paper between the fridge and the counter top. On the other side, you have to remove the baseboard and light switch to pull out the fridge because it's hugging the wall. The electrical wasn't done to code. The AC ducts weren't connected correctly. The house was filled with dust because of the incompetent people the contractor used to rip up the flooring. When we brought the problems to Seconds & Surplus' attention, their suggestion was that we should buy a smaller refrigerator and that they're not going to do anything to fix it. The cabinets are cheap. The hinges don't open far enough. The contractors they recommend are horrible. I would NEVER use these guys again and would steer anybody thinking about using them away to a more reputable operation that would fix their screw ups. read more

The products are great at this place.. The service not so much.. You can find plenty of help to purchase anything in the store.. Picking it is a different problem.. I had to wait about 1 1/2 hours on the loading dock before I received my cabinets.. Other people got tired of waiting and left.. When I went to customer service for assistance, you get the rolling eyes saying "we are doing the best we can" All anyone wants is some communication, not left alone on the loading dock wondering if anyone is working on your order.. read more

Buyer BEWARE!!!!! This company has a policy that once you walk out the door, you are unable to return the item without SEVERE penalty. We purchased a vanity on a Friday. Over the weekend we found something else with a different vendor. We walked in the door first thing Monday only to be told pay 20% of the total purchase or store credit only. Our purchase was significant and there was nothing else in the store that wowed us. Who has $300.00 dollars to throw away because you found a better product? read more

After placing the order, we were told we had to go to two locations to pick up. No problem. First stop, we were there an hour and a half, on the dock, because they couldn't find the pieces they promised. Assured they had three more in stock, we waited. They did not. We were still shorted shelves that were supposed to be included in the cabinets. They still can't find them. 2nd stop, one of the pieces was completely busted. After assuring us they had three in stock, we waited. They did not. After getting them home we found three more of them were broken. 6 1/2 hours of a day spent waiting and traveling for essentially nothing. And OF COURSE we don't want a discount! We want unbroken products! This is the second day now dealing with them. They are currently searching for the replacement they said they had their hands on Saturday. Mysteriously now they can't find it. We still have to go to the Richardson store to pick up yet another replacement. The savings isn't worth the time to go here, seriously. It's all hassle, nonchalant attitude and busted pieces. Spend a little more money and skip this place. (We're in Dallas, not San Francisco...) read more

I just had the worst customer service experience I've ever had. I'm a remodeler and have made many satisfactory purchases from Seconds and Surplus, but my recent experience was unacceptable. I purchased approximately 60 square feet of B-Grade tile from Seconds and Surplus for a tub surround I'm redoing. I've purchased B-Grade tile many times and expect that there will be a higher level of damaged or misprinted tile; typically 10% to 20%. In this case the damaged tile was more than 60% of my purchase. After arguing with what I think was an assistant manager I was able to exchange two thirds of the tile I purchased. Anticipating a higher level of damaged tile I purchased an additional case at the same time. When I got back to the job site I found that 75% of the tile I had just picked up was damaged. When I returned to the store again the manager admitted that 75% damage was unacceptable, but made no offer to rectify the situation. He response was basically that that's the risk you take when purchasing B-Grade tile. Since I had already started the job I bought four more cases of tile so I could get the six tile I needed to finish the work. What made me even more dismayed is that the cases of tile that I had previously exchanged that were 100% damaged were put back into stock for resale. BEWARE... It appears that Seconds and Surplus does not stand behind the quality of their merchandise and will return damaged product to their shelves for sale. read more

the worst customer experience i've ever had they need training 6 years worth all of them.

i spent approx 9000.00 on floors and granite countertops floors came out ok because i used my own installer. granite was different . 1st they show up and the sink cut out was wrong i had purchased sink from them at same time. because of time frame i was had to live with it . 2nd when they installed the master bath countertop they damaged the door on the medicine cabinet that had just been painted we did not notice until after they left iwas installing the sinks and faucet touched the door and got wet paint on my arm called michelle she acused my wife of lying in a text that we have. went to richard store manager he basically said same thing. no one even came out to look at it .its apparent when you see it how it happened. so one expensive lesson. dont use them. they wont your money and thats it. read more
