After a week later I reached back out and once again, promised a quote in a few days, never got it. Reached back out once last time and it was the same story. Jay just completed a major remodeling job at my house. This was not small cosmetic changes. He completely gutted the kitchen installed new custom built cabinets,sink,countertops, lighting. Tore out an old tub in the guest bathroom and installed a walk in tiled shower. Tore out an old dry bar and turned the space into a laundry area. Called this guy up to get a quote on a shower pan replacement because my shower pan is leaking. The guy on the phone quoted me $6,000-8,000!!!!, also telling me that all the tiles in the wall need to be ripped out floor to ceiling. All the other companies I have contacted have quoted me $800-1,000 for the work. They have also told me only a small portion of the wall needs to be torn out (6-8 inches) You got to be kidding, don't waste your time with this overpriced garbage. Jay did our master bath and guest bathroom of our home. My husband and I are expecting a child in Sept and we wanted to redo our bathrooms before the baby is born. Jay went beyond what we expected. Even though he had 3-4 other projects along with ours, he made it seem like we were the only ones. It is very stressful determining who to hire for a bathroom remodeling project, let alone any remodeling project. You want to find someone that will do high quality work, be thorough and detail-oriented but also provide guidance/be consultative. I started from scratch in researching the right fit. I spoke with several general contractors, like Jay, as well as several of your larger bathroom remodeling companies that come to your house and give you a whole pitch presentation. I found that the larger companies had limitations on what finishings you could select as they wanted you to use their "proprietary" stuff. They also were very expensive based on the extensive research I did. I knew if I could find a good contractor, I would be able to design this bathroom they way we wanted to at a lower cost without compromising quality and finishes. When it came to interviewing the contractors, I understood that I had to be thorough because they can be great salespeople but not deliver as we have all heard the horror stories. Jay stood out to me for several reasons. First, despite Texas law not requiring contractors to be insured, he is. Second, he took a very consultative approach as exemplified by offering suggestions about the remodel that no one else offered. In addition, he came with us to Floor and Decor to help us pick tile out, gave feedback on all the fixtures we picked out and made sure we were making decisions that we were not going to regret after the remodel or compromise resell value. Third, he is a small, family-owned business which relies on references from good-quality work and great customer experiences. He has plenty of references, including mine if he ever asks. Jay and his crew were great. They came over to replace a shower/tub combo that had been leaking with a standalone shower. We are choosing to do the tiling ourselves but had Jay and his crew build a new shower pan, replace the walls and redo the plumbing. While some reviews have mentioned that his prices may be higher (I'll admit it was a concern of mine initially) I will say that the attention to detail and quality of materials he uses explains that. For example, our shower walls were not just replaced with your typical home depot/lowes type backer board but rather with a special type used for commercial applications and was waterproofed three times. I am highly doubtful that the other folks do this and I think is where the difference in price may come in. So, bottom line, if price alone is your main driver then you may get what you pay for but if you are looking for high quality that will stand the test of time (and the ever shifting foundation issues in Texas) then Jay is your guy. read more

Here's what I loved about Jay and his crew- Very professional and friendly, SUPERB communication, accurate estimate (does measurements and thorough evaluation instead of throwing numbers off the top of his head), fair pricing (stayed within budget even with unexpected electrical, wood, and plumbing issues), has connections with suppliers for the best deals on materials, has good taste and is blunt and honest about design ideas, go out of their way to do little improvements not mentioned in the contract, very detail-oriented and so particular about execution (he notices little things that I don't even think about or realize)... Gosh, the list seriously goes on! Our family feels super comfortable with Jay... My kids (specifically my 7 year old) compliments on what a great job he and his crew did every single day they were here! One thing I had to learn is to trust him, particularly with design ideas. Everything, from our floors, to the paint, to the baseboards, cabinets, backsplash, and countertops were all his choice! I had an idea in mind for the kitchen as a whole, and he knew what little things were needed to put together the vision! It was really weird cause I doubted his choices initially, thinking I knew better. But I had to trust his experience, and it turned out awesome in the end! This is your guy and your company for a remodel/renovation. We had several meetings with different contractors and companies. As others did, we thought Jay would give us the his preferred tile and granite places and send us on our way to make our selections (him not knowing we had felt very overwhelmed with this task prior). Instead, Jay spent his Saturday walking us through tons of tile and granite selections. We watched him slowly build (from samples) what would be our new kitchen and master bathroom. This is something no other company or contractor had even offered. Jay gave specifics and itemized our quote, again, something others failed to do on their proposals. He promised the jobs would be done in 4 weeks and he delivered. Like another reviewer said he was ALWAYS available for our questions and calls - even when he was out of town on vacation. Never did we feel like we were just a job. You can always get a job done by someone for the right price but to have peace of mind and assurance from beginning to end and even after completion is another story. The crew that worked with us (my boy, Kwame, and Garth) were great and complete professionals and made me so comfortable, even my dog loved them! Our friends and family are impressed with the quality of work and craftsmanship as are we. In the end, the work they did was fantastic and we couldn't be happier. Wow... this guy... what a wonderful experience. Jay really bent over backwards to get our house wrapped up to sell. We had another painter fall through, Darrell with FX wasn't available either, we lost a couple of days trying to find a good replacement, and Jay came through with flying colors. Short fuse for sure. We had cabinets re-painted and a lot of trim work done throughout the house. He worked LONG hours to make sure we were ready for our listing date (let me stress this - LONG hours). Great work. Recently was having issues with no hot water in my house. Jay was able to send out a crew the day after I phoned him (where most places were saying that I would have to wait 1 to 2 weeks). The issue turned out to be something that I could have fixed myself had I better understood how my system worked. It was a flood stop valve that shut, and my flood detection alarm has a function that will throw the valve shut. Well unlike many of these systems that won't reopen once shut and have to instead be replaced my system actually has a feature where I can command the valve to re-open. I felt foolish when I realized this and had to pay for guys to come out. Jay was willing to work with me on the cost of his guys coming out. I did pay for the service (after all they restored the hot water whereas I wasn't figuring it out), but he reduced his charges given that no actual parts or labor were required.
