It is sad to see historic places ripped down, but don't worry, some items are stripped out and saved! Here is where a lot of useful vintage house parts now rest. They have a good selection of cool lamps, antique fixtures, doors, windows, cabinets, cool glass, dressers-- you name it. I always get inspired with lots of fun ideas when I come here. We went in this time looking for a 'pocket' door, the old kind that slides into the wall.. We were really having a hard time finding one online. Not only did we find one here, they have a whole section labeled "pocket doors" and we found just what we wanted- a 'real wood' door (not the plastic-wood-material-door-thing they sell at Lowes nowadays.) So now we have a door that needs a lil cleaning but was only $35 bucks. The wood alone is likely worth that. They work hard saving the vintage items from otherwise demolition death and seem to price it affordable enough so it can be 'loved' again. Pros: -Organized bins and labeled piles. -Helpful and knowledgeable staff. -Free parking. Cons: -It's like a warehouse shop so everything is covered in thick 'antique dust.' (but, it is kinda fun to clean off your own glowing treasure for the cost you pay. ;) Reuse, recycle baby!

We needed more supplies on a Friday around 4:30pm. We drove there only to find out the hours of operation are M-F, 7am-4pm. Those hours are great for the people who work there but not for people who need supplies for their DIY projects beyond their open hours or on weekends. The two out of the three times I went there Phil helped us. He was very helpful and friendly in answering questions and recommending their products. Their products are of a better quality than you find in big box stores. We had bought round, hook and loop sanding discs from other places and then bought 3 boxes at Infinite Hardwood. The ones at Infinite Hardwood were of a higher quality and lasted longer. They carry real hardwood flooring, sanding discs, wood vents, wood filler, floor sealers, floor finishes, floor tools, wood doe, and much more. We feel their prices are reasonable, too.

Have you ever talked to "that guy" because you need help fixing a problem? Maybe he's a car…read moremechanic, or an IT guy, or a Sommelier at an expensive restaurant. You're there asking b/c you don't know how to fix it yourself and they have the knowledge to help you. You say something like: "I have 3 doors that need to be replaced and I need help getting started." Then you get a blank stare back at you. ... ... ... maybe he's waiting for something else? More words from me? Finally he says "I can't help you with that limited amount of information." And then he's done. That's it. Suddenly you realize you're too stupid to be engaging with such an expert in this field. Maybe I was arrogant to even think this place (called Seattle's Doorhouse" was the correct spot to start my door journey. "That guy", the "door expert", wanted me to know it, too. He rattled off the info that I would need to bring in with me to avoid 1) Wasting his time, 2) Broadcasting how "door stupid" I am, and 3) Be able to write them a fat check. I would need door measurements and wall thickness numbers. (Awesome, I can get those!) The tone ion his voice was, however, the verbal equivalent to an eye roll when he quickly listed a dozen numbers toward me: 60by35by120$13575x130x55$250. I think he was throwing me a bone to get me out the door with some numbers at high speed. It worked. I couldn't get out of there quick enough. And it's because of 3 things: 1) I don't know doors like "that guy" knows doors 2) I'm an idiot in general 3) I'm an expert at wasting the time of other experts.

I was giving details of my order to this guy at the desk and he said "that's not what I asked". Alright bro, perhaps I misheard you, but don't correct a customer in this way. Shame you can't treat customers better. I've spent thousands in this store on doors and this will be the last time I come here or recommend it.

My agent and I both had to drive in 50 minutes of traffic. We got to the house on time but had to wait for her. She was pretty cold and spoke just a few words during the meeting. There were some frustrating incidents and arguments during the cabinet installation that could have been completely avoid. Overall I was barely satisfied. I had to push very hard to get some of the quality issues fixed and it involved multiple trips. I will do much more research next time before I pay someone to do any work in my house again.

Normally I'd expect to need to drive 40 minutes or have to go someplace specialized like Limback in Ballard to get access to half of what Alki carries. Disclaimer for the folks that aren't professionals or have never been to a lumber yard though: 1. This place's bread and butter is professionals running thousands minimum through them and from what I've seen they do pretty brisk business for our local tradespeople. They don't always have time to hand hold for small needs, but if you're patient, they're happy to help. 2. If you usually shop at big box stores you might get sticker shock as places like this should typically have much higher quality materials (such as consistently straight, dry 2x4s you don't have to pick through) but with that comes higher pricing. If you're primarily price driven this probably isn't the place for you, no shade if that's the case!
