Olympic Mountain Fish Compost/Mulch

We have used dirt exchange for about a decade. Their products are so much better than other landscaping products and companies from which we have ordered in the past. The compost/mulch we prefer, Olympic Mountain Fish Compost, is almost impossible to find anywhere else and it is pristine and so nourishing for your plants. Their service is terrific. We have a large yard and order 45 yards at a time, delivered, so the skill of the delivery driver is important and their drivers are excellent. They are great about scheduling, timing and confirmations. We would highly recommend them.

These folks are truly PNW best " salt of the earth " types but their salt of course is rich and nourishing compost and dirt for your garden and yard projects. Their charges are reasonable and you can get what you need quickly. They do what they can to support local communities like our community garden the Belltown P-Patch, which by the way is a beautiful place I invite you to visit on he SE corner of Vine Street and Elliott Ave .

Dirt Exchange == Eden in my front yard.

Hey Gurl, Do you see this soil? It's tomato material. If dirt could talk, then the Vegetable Garden Mix would have that Ryan Gossling croon. Just sayin'. Gardening is not for wusses. It's dirty. It's sweaty. Your back aches from hauling bags of decomposed poop from there to there like some competitor in some Public Access deadlift competition. You get gains from gardening. You see this 'bis' and 'tris'? All. Gardening. Gains. One gardens because they know they can't get any more local than their own yard. You do it because you know that if Global Warming decides to not be a d-bag, your initial investment will end up feeding you for the rest of the year. People may call you a cheap bastid, but when you hand them that cabbage that's as big as a Fremont studio apartment, then they'll want your produce on speed dial. If you're serious about getting a productive garden, then the Dirt Exchange is the place to get soil and the initial round of compost. Stuff is black gold. The coaxer of kale. The zen to zucchini. It's rich, easy to shovel and tasty to critters who are into dirt buffet. Our yard turned from Wasteland to Eden over a weekend. Dirt Exchange gives better quality for your buck and it's less expansive than chain hardware stores. We priced multiple and our math always pointed to DE. Side note? Their tree mulch is off the chain. It's a fast seller for a reason. So the location isn't Hipster friendly. *Kanye Shrug* When we called expressing our gardening plans, the staff gave helpful advice, directions to the site and informed us about the entrance. There is no window shopping. No lovely glass lawn sculptures, sparkling water and garden gnomes. That experience is for wusses and wusses go to Home Depot.

Perfect unload of split materials in tight urban space.

Very easy process. Simple, easy to read signage on where to enter, park and pay for the soil. The pricing is great.

Love this place! I've been a donor (of items) and customer since 2007. It's the best salvage spot…read morein the city, IMO, and I've frequented them all for many years, both as a contractor and as a homeowner. Almost all the employees I've interacted with have been pleasant, helpful, and friendly with very few exceptions. Regarding 'haggling' with them, in the few cases where I felt it was appropriate, they were always willing to entertain a fair transaction. Funny how that works-- if you come in with the right attitude! (I'm lookin' at you, 1- and 2-star reviewers! ) Salvage work is hard, and dealing with jackwagon 'hagglers' or unprepared 'customers' makes it harder. Show the BR folks some love; save the self-righteous attitude for Restoration Hardware.

The most interesting shop in Ballard you never noticed!…read more Located just off the main drag in Ballard, this location is central and convenient. There is a lot of parking, though there is some sketchy street activity (rvs etc) in that area. This would be an incredibly fun place to shop if you were decorating a home or business... they have mass amounts of light fixtures, windows, doors, hearths, door knobs... plus a section of furniture. And by furniture I mean in any form. Old restaurant booths and stools, large armoires, nice old solid wood pieces. I was hoping to find some local or retro Seattle art, and it was a little sparse today, though I expect it gets picked through frequently. Will definitely come browse again in the future.

I was a little excited to be trying Limback after living in Seattle for twenty years of doing home…read moreimprovement projects using only big chain stores and Dunn Lumber. Turns out the experience with Limback was a great disappointment and worse than any experience I've had with any other lumber purchase. I contacted Limback because I planned to build my porch with Ipe and wanted high quality lumber, and with half of the boards at twenty feet I knew I would be trying to locate an unusual length. Limback had the boards I needed, and I quickly purchased them, with confirmation that they would hold them for a couple of weeks until I could have them delivered to the job site. While those days passed, Limback sold my purchased lumber to someone else. Then they waited to tell me, embarrassed about the screw-up. Then I was told that now that they were out of stock there was no way to know when they would get more Ipe. I ended up buying through Crosscut Hardwoods in SoDo, which was another crappy experience with worse quality lumber. Then, to add insult to injury, when I found that one of the boards from Crosscut was badly bowed and couldn't be used, I called Limback to see if they could redeem themselves a bit. I was told that sure, I could come over and go through all the ten-footer boards they now had in stock (a few weeks after the initial, botched sale). Then, while I was going through the boards at Limback to find just the one I would buy, an employee came by and chided me for looking through their stock and told me I couldn't do it - which I ignored - putting the nail in the coffin for me ever going back to Limback.
