Really wanted to like this place with the good reviews, serving St.Frank's coffee (one of my faves), and the cute place but I had the salmon toast and it was not good. I was really hungry so I was looking forward to it. Nothing holds the salmon/egg to the toast and yes! a chutney/sauce would have been ideal but it should be included considering the price. And the salmon was way too salty. My tongue has this scalded feeling from the salt. I think there is a lot of potential to improve this toast. This place is like a baby boomer's stereotype of millennials, only it doesn't live up to that standard. Come here if you like overpaying for avocado toast or just-OK coffee. The neighborhood makes me think that it's trying to be the first root in a wave of gentrification that will never happen. The one good side is that the jam I had on the toast was incredible, but not worth the arm and a leg I paid. Stopped by for the first time after reading all the great Yelp reviews! It's a great little spot to have in the Tenderloin. Of course, there's the pricey toast and coffee but it's worth it if you are looking for quality. I had the: Welsh Rarebit Toast $7.00+ham with Grilled aged farmhouse cheddar and yummy Chutney on top. Also, the very tasty: Burnt Caramel Latte $5.00+ Made with Recchiuti chocolate. Overall, it cost me $14.50 but like I said, it's for the quality. Customer service was fantastic as well. My new fav coffee spot! They serve Sightglass coffee which I love, in addition to several toasts (avocado, pbnj, egg, etc). Good quality, friendly staff, cozy spot. Such a simple concept of coffee and toast and it is SO dang good! Was walking around for some coffee and randomly stumbled upon this cute little gem. Immediately my eyes read "avocado toast" so of course I had to have it and got myself a nice burnt caramel latte. Avocado toast was EVERYTHANNNNNG! The garlic oil and the hefty amount of pepper was right up my alley and the bread is from the baker that used to work at Tartine so how can this not be a win? Came back two days later and ordered the cream cheese toast and the spicy pb and blackberry jelly (they have some interesting spicy jellies but I wanted something sweet) and both were so good! The only reason I'm giving it two stars instead of one is because a) you have to be pretty shitty to only have 1 star. That means service and food are both very poor; and b) because the man was nice. But for a $4 americano, I expect greatness. A well-balanced roast, with hot ass water, ready to go. It was far from that. And so was the $3 drip. Watery as can be. I should have stopped myself from buying a croissant too, which, at $4.50, wasn't BAD, but I could get a dozen from Costco that were better. (I'm literally struggling to tear one apart as we speak.) Small place with a variety of toasts and coffee. Recommend getting the food to go since there is only about 6 seats in the shop. Had the Avocado and Smoke Trout. Both were good but the waiting for the toast killed the experience. Took about 25 minutes just to get the two toasts. There was only one person making toast and unfortunately her process was slow, practically making one toast at a time. It's morning rush time, someone needs to train them to make these toasts quicker and at least get two people making it since you have room for it. Again, good food but slow to get your food. Perhaps the most memorable coffee I've had in recent memory. A delicious burnt caramel latte, where you could actually taste the flavor of the caramel without being too sweet. Pair this with some delicious avocado toast, and you've got a grand start to the day! My only gripe was that there was perhaps too much avocado (gasp!) on the toast. It was perfectly ripe and topped with salt and a garlicky oil, but I ended up scraping off 1/3, just so I could fit it in my mouth. read more

I love this little coffee and toast shop! Service has always been friendly and prompt, the coffee fresh, and the plethora of toast topping choices is sure to overcome even the pickiest of toast-eaters. I highly recommend the PBJ or ABJ with passionfruit jelly! I nearly always get the avocado toast though, but I do think the garlic can be a bit overwhelming. Sometimes that's just what I need though. But honestly, I think it's the bread that impresses me the most- it always tastes fresh, it's packed with grains and seeds, and cut at the perfect thickness. I give this a 2 star, coffee was good not the best I have had or 2nd best. Customer service was terrible both men working there were in their cell phone prior to entering and for a good two mins after were still on their phone did not greet customer or say have a good day or anything. While shots were being prepared the worker was checking his phone and then continued to make the coffee. I have never been to a coffee shop where I have seen someone sending text messages during and when a customer is waiting for the coffee. This was supposed to be the best cappuccino I've ever had. The portafilter was meticulously cleaned for a couple minutes between drinks, the grounds weighed three times ensuring the perfect shot. Everything is going great - the barista even warmed up by making drinks for a couple people who ordered after me - the scale is placed under my cup and the shot starts to drip. I've been watching intently for the last 15 minutes, anticipation building, as this magnificently detail oriented barista prepares what looked to be the ultimate espresso drink. Maybe I built it up in my head but what I got wasn't the drink I had been waiting a lifetime to experience. It wasn't even the drink I had been waiting 15 minutes for. It was the cappuccino that I'd expect at an airport kiosk - sloppily pulled and poured, neither wet nor dry. If you're going to treat coffee like a middle school science experiment the least you can do is make the drinks in order, even if they leave something to be desired. read more

Was 3 stars but made 4 due to one man issue. The coffee and food is stellar! Best avocado toast in town! Chutney rocks! But what ruins the experience is the bald red bearded barista that continually slams coffee machine parts very loudly, and fridge doors and runs a jackhammer while making coffee. Its so loud it startled and scared me twice while trying to eat. I need a xanex after eating there. Totally unnecessary and inconsiderate and super annoying and just tacky! It's Sunday morning..I'm sitting up in bed listening to Phillip Glass and All Things Considered Morning Edition. The suns' warm glare is shining through the window and leaves flutter outside. I just had a cup of rich, full bodied coffee and a fabulously delicious, generously sized slice of fresh bread slathered in butter and cinnamon + sugar. WHAT a lovely way to spend a Sunday morning. Scullery just opened it's doors on the floor level of my apartment building. On the corner of Geary and Leavenworth, this cafe is an oasis in the Tenderloin. I've only found two other really good coffee shops in the TL, and they're a significant walk away (too far for a lazy morning when I'm not ready to fully engage with the city). Most cafe's in the neighborhood offer overpriced, Folgers grade coffee, and stale and underwhelming pastries (Egregious, really). Thus far I've only tried their drip coffee and cinnamon sugar toast. Both were amazing- the toast is on par with (maybe even better?) The Mill, Jane, Philz, Dottie's True Blue, etc. I look forward to trying every other thing on their menu. Next on my list, the Tenderloin Cold Brew and Avocado toast. To sum it up: Super Stoked (!!) this place is here. Quality (and pricing) is competitive with the best and most notable cafe's in the city, honestly. Owners: PLEASE offer larger sizes of coffee. Pretty pretty please. their pumpkin spice latte was out of this world. usually coffee shops go overboard with the sweetness, but it the perfect balance of nutmeg, cinnamon, and pumpkin purée. it was pure bliss. their Welsh rarebit toast w/ ham was also DELISH. Great experience - stopped by today after lunch with friends for coffee. From the basics like a Cortado, to a Nola Cola and Matcha!
