It's better than any damn avocado toast I'd be making at home because let's be real: how many of you actually have readily ripe avocados on hand, solely for your avocado toast craving? Yea, exactly. The place isn't big enough to swing a cat in, but who needs to swing a cat when they're dog friendly? Water bowl outside and the place is packed (which amounts to 6 or 7 people) every time I go. Most patrons are a grab and go coffee type. But if you want a tasty breakfast, toast is what they do. I've had the avocado toast, with an entire avo thinly sliced and artfully placed, a Welsh rarebit with ham, which I topped with a cold tomato bacon chutney, and plain toast with fig ginger jam. The toast is a thick slice of seeded sourdough. I really enjoyed all three enough that I make it a point to visit Scullery as an urban hike destination each time I'm in SF. It's a refreshing take on breakfast when most other places have a traditional and somewhat interchangeable breakfast fare. Try some toast today! read more

So on my last stay in San Fran Hilton, I made sure to visit this place based on great reviews. I had the burnt caramel coffee which was really unique. You could really taste a somewhat sweet char undertone in the coffee, though would have wanted my coffee a tad warmer. I paid $10 for a smoked trout with cream cheese which I find too salty and not sure if it's worth the price. Would have preferred a classic LOX, onions and cream cheese. The owners find delight in putting the orders with care for their customers including dogs (they give free treats) so additional star point for that! read more

I love this place! I live a block away and even if I don't stop in the staff always waves to me as I walk by, which is important for me and shows how great the people who work there are! The coffee is delicious, the toasts are magnificent, and the interior is so cool. I love that they don't use paper straws and just use sip lids for their iced drinks. This place is the most bomb spot for toast you could go to in the city PERIOD. You definitely get your money's worth!! Their chai lattes are delicious. My friend ordered the avocado toast ($8) and was delightfully surprised that they literally put a whole avocado on the toast. They definitely don't skimp you like many other places do. I got the almond butter & passionfruit habanero toast ($5) which was so delicious. You could tell they were putting love into what they were making. Not only did it look great, but it tasted even better. The toast itself is absolutely incredible. On my 3 day trip to San Fran. We came across this small and cute coffee shop and decided to give it a shot. We were here every morning. The staff here really know's what they are doing. They take their time crafting your morning beverage. You appreciate your carefully crafted beverage EVEN MORE once you see all the work they put in to their drinks. Our favorite was the special of a "Burnt Carmel Creme Brûlée Latte." A little sweet and a tad bit salty. And the last day I decided to try the special tea. A ginger, lavender, and honey tea. Super refreshing. Especially after a weekend of drinking. I almost wish this place were a chain but I'm so glad we found what I think is a hidden gem in San Fran. read more

One word for this place: exceptional! Came here during a work trip to San Francisco based on strong yelp reviews and it did not disappoint. I had 2 toasts my first time in: spicy PBJ with passion fruit habanero jam and the pesto egg toast with bacon added. Their bread (a seeded sourdough) is perfect- sturdy, soft, moist and crunchy all at the same time! For the spicy PBJ the peanut butter was creamy and the passion fruit jam offered a perfect tangy sweetness. All came together very well. Now, the pesto egg toast was the star and a true savory delight!! The pesto, which is scrambled into 2 eggs served over buttered toast, had great savory herby flavor that came through strong. All the ingredients they use seem to be thoughtful and delicious in their own right. I devoured every bite of both toasts although I planned to eat only half of each one. I also had the burnt caramel latte (with almond milk) which was great. It had a subtle taste of burnt sugar, not too sweet- perfectly creamy, and a very very freshly squeezed orange juice. After eating 2 toasts I was full for most of the day (all after spending around $25, not too bad). It was so perfect that I came back the next day! The place is small and has a lot of traffic in and out, so be prepared sit close to neighbors but it's really quaint and a pleasure to watch them prepare the toast with so much care and attention to detail. I'll definitely be back to try more of menu whenever I'm in San Francisco. I can't rave about this place enough! read more

When in SFO on a business trip, go to Scullery to get avocado toast for breakfast. I desperately wanted to avoid my overpriced hotel breakfast buffet while staying in Union Square. I found this little gem nearby. The coffee was top notch and the avocado toast with an egg on top was just what I needed to start my day (it was a perfect combo of high-quality olive oil and freshly ground salt and pepper that they sprinkled on it). Avo toast is one of those things you *could* make yourself but it tastes much better when someone else makes it. Scullery's is served on a thick seedy piece of toast and has a full avo on top. It's topped with chunky salt and freshly cracked pepper. I found the price to be reasonable for the quality. Why only 3 stars then? For some reason service was slow and forgetful and it didn't appear to be that busy. People came and went and got their food while we waited (to be fair idk if they do call ahead). I think they forgot entirely we ordered coffees. If you come here bring your patience and don't be in a rush. Probably more of a takeout place since there's limited counter seating. Go to Milkbean instead, DO NOT waste your time and money on a subpar establishment such as this. You have been warned! I really enjoy a breakfast sandwich from Bandit, complimented with a coffee from Scullery, but no longer will I frequent the latter. Every single time without exception, the bald man who I presume to be the owner, goes out of his way to ensure I feel uncomfortable and shunned when I enter the establishment. I understand people may have an off day here or there but this man makes it his business to show me that he does not want me in his little coffee shop. Every interaction I have, from saying hello upon entering, to sign and tip at the end of my order have been unnecessarily hostile interactions. I believe his actions are racially motivated due to the fact I have only seen people who look like me receive the same unnecessary and prejudice hatred when simply ordering their morning coffee. Being local resident, and a Bay Area native, it sucks not feeling welcome in my own home. Lastly, the only way to receive quality service is to bring your dog! That'll be just about the only way to get this man to be attentive enough to provide adequate service. Customer service clearly isn't a strong suit, nor is the pleasing aesthetic worth the lousy treatment, therefore me and my money will be going elsewhere, and suggest any self respecting person do the same. I kept asking her to repeat herself and finally she raised her voices level I could discern. The kippers sounded interesting. I also ordered brewed coffee. Prices are reasonable. Found myself a place at the window and took a sip of the coffee. Burnt. Prolly sitting on a warmer too long. It took an amazingly long time to toast bread and poach an egg. Since kippers are new to me I don't know if they were good. What I can say is the smoked fish was dry. The egg was delicious and the toast it's served on grain filled and good.
