I got the avocado toast, which was really yummy, but I was surprised that it was $15. Coming from the East Coast I am somewhat used used to higher prices but this still was a bit high! I didn't love the service, because I wasn't sure if the person at the register really understood me. I thought he looked confused several times and had several awkward pauses. And it also took a lot longer than I imagined it would take. It's a very casual café vibe and not too many people were coming in yet. But I waited over 10 minutes and then I had to ask them to cook the egg a little bit more for my health condition and they seemed a little bit annoyed, but that could just be me reading into it. I wish they would've maybe asked or said like is it OK that it's over easy or something. The food is definitely tasty though. I only came here because it was open early and I needed to get something fast so I probably wouldn't return because I think the value is a little bit not quite there for $15 in the wait time in the service but for what it was, it was tasty. And get the mustard. The mustard is quite good. read more

My visit took place on a weekday late afternoon. Glad they serve just about everything on the menu all day. I opted for the Deluxe Veggie Sandwich. Originally, I really wanted a panini but unfortunately, no veggie paninis available and the staff shared why, which I appreciated. Regardless, I still enjoyed my sandwich. The sandwich included fresh ingredients, didn't skimp on the veggies and competitive pricing. Inside was also clean and spacious. Ask staff for the restroom code. Only got a bagel and bf got avocado toast. Staff was nice and the restaurant was clean and wall kept. I was very disappointed with my bagel breakfast sandwich, though. Metropolitan Coffee off Market Street was a random stop on my day trip in SF. From the outside it looks like a smaller spot, but once you walk in it opens up a lot more than you'd expect. Comfortable place to actually sit and kick it for a bit. I got the Dubai chocolate strawberry crepe and it delivered. Dense and flavorful, not the kind where you finish it and feel like you barely ate anything. The Dubai chocolate and strawberry combo had me pretty thirsty, but it was worth it. If you're around Market Street and want a spacious coffee shop with solid dessert options, Metropolitan is worth the stop. I'd come back. read more

For being such a small interior, they have so much seating (and dubai chocolate???) I've never seen a cafe with such good pastry options along with their coffee! Although I would give my vanilla latte a 5/10, the baklava was a 1000/10, and fully made up for it! The hot chocolate my friend got was also only ok, the speed of this little shop and the warmth inside still made it a great stop while walking around in SF! read more

I ordered an iced Americano (my first time trying it iced instead of hot) along with a bear claw pastry. The coffee was strong and smooth, with just the right amount of ice. I added a little half-and-half since they didn't have whole milk, and it balanced perfectly. The bear claw was fresh, flaky, and not too big or small--just right. Bear claws are one of my favorite pastries, and this one hit the spot. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was calm, with a few students working quietly in the corner. There's even a TV playing, though it wasn't distracting--more background than anything. It's the kind of place where you can relax with your phone, do a little work, or just enjoy a coffee and pastry. Metropolitan Café also has a good selection of sandwiches and other options, but I kept it simple this time. For a quick bite or coffee stop on Market Street, this place is a solid choice. It's a cute little place with some very yummy eats. The people were nice and friendly and helped me choose some yummy pastries. My son and I had the avocado, lettuce, cucumber, tomato with egg, cheese and bacon on a cheddar jalapeño bagel. My wife had the fruit with Nutella crepe. Our daughter in-law had the bacon, egg, and cheese on an everything bagel. We're gonna go back to try everything else. Quaint Turkish inspired cafe in the middle of the action in downtown SF. A quick 5 min walk from the Marriott Marquis next door - stopped in for a Turkish delight and a cup of brew with an espresso shot. The food was so delicious! We got two sandwiches, baklava, and 2 drinks. We were traveling from out of town and so I always expect things to be on the pricier side in the city but I think everything was at a very realistic price point (5 items for $50). The cashier was very nice and chatted with us about some of the pastries/sweets they had. The cafe itself was clean and very cute. We have a bakery similar to this one in our hometown, so it was nice finding a place that reminded us of a staple in our lives. We will definitely be back! read more

A pretty good selection of sandwiches and coffee to choose from. I ordered a chicken Pesto provolone panini sandwich and nitro cold brew (with ice and oat milk) for lunch. Cold Brew was a pretty nice pick me up which wasn't too strong and the panini sandwich was pretty solid. loved the melted cheese with the chicken and the bread was toasted pretty nice without being burnt. Prices are fair considering this spot is located downtown and within a fairly touristy area. read more

It's directly on the path of one of the routes from the Moscone center to Union square, so quite convenient for pedestrians and/or visitors to the area. The cold brew was excellent, as was the chocolate croissant. But let's talk about the many permutations of baklava, including several types with pistachio. YUM!! Marzo was AMAZING! I and a huge group of my peers stumbled by this awesome cafe and were treated with so much kindness and hospitality yesterday. We had just finished a conference and a group of maybe 30+ of us walked right in, and they gave us free treats! On the house! This cafe has a huge pastry selection and everything looks so good! We had a spinach and cheese one and a chocolate pistachio one. They were both really good, but it would be nice if we could have them warmed up! I'm not sure if they do that or not. I also ordered a hazelnut latte and a regular latte, and the regular one was way hotter than the hazelnut one for some reason. But the coffee was great and not too strong. The service was good as well, the barista was helpful and patient when I was deciding! The cafe is very clean and has a good amount of seating, but it did fill up as it got later in the morning. Stopped here for a quick bite after a convention and was impressed by the price, fast service, and good quality food. The Turkish Delight is some of the best I've had, including in Turkey. $10 for a bacon, egg, and cheese croissant? Hard to beat that in the city, especially with the generous portions. Walking around the market and third Street area on a Sunday... fairly desolate not many coffee shops in the vicinity. You would think there would be more .stumbled upon Metropolitan and I was very impressed. First of all very nice people working there friendly good selection of various snacks and pastries. Had their standard issue coffee and it was very good. You could tell it was made well. Overall this is a nice place plus they have outdoor seating. I will go back there next time I'm downtown. read more

They have fairly seamlessly moved into the former Mazarine space (with the beautiful tiled backsplash I've always loved!). Friendly and accommodating staff and lots of food and beverage choices. Honestly not much going on with the drink, but it does taste lighter in general. Crazy have to pay $1.50 more to add on this milk. Overall, its alright. I do like the natural lighting coming into the shop, but nothing too special.

This is "the" best katsu sando in the bay. The katsu is crispy, but little on the softer side. But this hardness matches perfectly with the absolutely tender, soft, juicy pork wrapped inside. I'm looking at the menu again and it all makes sense. The pork has been in shio koji, making the meat ever so tender while adding the subtle but complicated marinated flavor. The cabbage is plenty, but not over packed to take away from the main Katsu flavor. What really perfects it for me, was not only the sweet and savory katsu sauce, but the mayo with dash of I think a karashi mustard. That slight tingle, the perfect kick gives a powerful awakening of flavor that really sets the it apart. This is art, an artisan. I will say though, the most flavor from my bagel-sandwich came from the bagel itself, not the sausage or egg. It was a little bland, but I am in a very good mood because of being on vacation, so I wasn't disappointed. The latte was very rich and good. They have a variety of had-held breakfast offerings, and while I didn't partake, what I saw looked delicious. Today was my first time here, but I'll stop in again if I need caffeine in this neck of the woods.

This is a nice little coffee shop located in San Francisco at the corner of Sutter and Leavenworth,…read morein Lower Nob Hill. It is directly accessible via the 27 Bryant bus, the 2 Sutter bus, or just a few blocks south of the California Cable Car & Leavenworth stop. As background, I am a unapologetic coffee snob. I ordered a large medium roast coffee. It was very good. Nuff' said! They also have some very nice looking pastries and breakfast sandwiches. The breakfast sandwiches caught my eye because, for whatever reason, finding a decent breakfast sandwich in this city has always been hard (i was born here, see picture)! The breakfast sandwiches were a good size, with egg, cheese, and ham, on a croissants, and reasonably priced. I did not buy one, but I was very tempted! Although the service at "Cup of Joy" was a little lacking, with the cashier being a little stiff, the coffee here is very good. They also have space to sit inside, and outside. And it was a sunday, with this being one of the few coffee shops open past 5pm, for which i am very appreciative! :)
