Earthbar has provided this opportunity for me time and time again but some times are better than others. this specific instance was alright, but service is not up to par. They should have more than one person working to lighten their load and keep the flow moving smoother. On September 23rd, I arrived at Earthbar 12 minutes before it closed. The two employees were busy with getting ready to close the store. One of them saw me, but didn't even greet me, and they were minding their businesses. I checked the refrigerator and the menu for a while, and finally one of them came to take my order. I've been going to Earthbar religiously for a few years now, usually right after my work out. They used to be GREAT, but as of the last year, there are new staff working and the drinks never turned out quite the same again. Bummer. I was craving an Açaí bowl and read some reviews about this place near my hotel. I strolled out and nearly missed it! It's in the same building as the Equinox gym, next to the Four Seasons. You walk through the SUPER WHITE hallway and then head up to the 4th floor. The space is shared with a couple of other shops and a reallly cool looking gym. The prices I would say are the same as other juice bars. My bowl was $9.00 and worth every penny. I asked for no bananas as I'm highly allergic and added extra strawberries. The agave touch on the top was clutch. I love me some agave! What I loved the most was that there was granola at the bottom of the bowl as well! Seals the deal! They have a ton of supplements and healthy pre made food to go. It's a pretty cool place! read more

I stopped in here a couple of times for breakfast. As some of the other reviewers indicated its a bit tricky to find as there is no street signage and its located on the 4th floor of a shared space. I only had the Acai bowls but all of the other menu items look solid. The only complaint I have about the Acai bowls is that there is only one option for toppings; banana and strawberries - I would like to see other fruits. With that said I thought for the $10 you get a very good amount of food. The granola helps to add some substance to the bowl and the fruit on top is very fresh. The Acai blend itself is very thick. I am certainly stopping by here again for some fresh fruit goodness. read more

They have lunches with all the lean proteins such as egg, tuna, chicken etc. The also offer a host of delicious smoothies for about the same price as Jamba Juice just with better ingredients in my opinion. A-okay for grabbing a quick bite that won't make you feel nasty after a workout. I wanted to try the zucchini pasta from Urban Remedy that my partner has been raving about, but they didn't have any in stock on a Thursday at lunch time. So I tried a collard wrap, also from Urban Remedy ($8.50). It didn't look or taste like much, but it was filling. At least there's a sign that lists all of the Urban Remedy options with their nutrition information. Then you can avoid the dishes that exceed 20g in sugars should you so choose. I didn't look too closely at the other offerings, but they definitely have smoothies, some prepared stuff from The Plant, bottled drinks, supplements, and protein bars. After seeing people carry around giant containers of acai bowls after their workouts, I decided to stop by the Earthbar just adjacent to the Equinox Sports Club. I love that the smoothie bar is next to a row of tables and sofas near the windows, which makes for a great place to catch up with friends. I was sorely disappointed by pretty much everything about my acai bowl. First off, the berries were clearly frozen - I could hear them crunch as I bit into them. Secondly, the actual acai smoothie was blended so heavily with bananas that I basically only tasted bananas. Furthermore, I could see chunks of banana (also frozen) swirled within the smoothie - It was like they didn't even bother disguising the fact that they were compensating for acai with lackluster banana. The service was also awful. The guy at the cashier seemed frustrated with any questions we asked him (mind that there were literally zero other people waiting, so it wasn't like we were holding up a line), and he rolled his eyes when my friend asked for her agave nectar on the side. Finally, when our bowls were ready, he didn't even bother calling out the order. He left them on the counter for maybe a good 3-5 minutes so when we finally realized they were ready they had already started melting. The price and the size of the bowls are basically the only redeeming factors. The bowls are in huge containers (they look like 3/4 quarts?) and the price is around $9-10, which is pretty good for SF standards. Honestly, though, I would have rather paid a bit more for better quality. Such a shame, because even though I was looking for a good smoothie go-to after my workouts. If it weren't for the convenience of being here in my gym, I truthfully wouldn't even come here. The dudes who do work here are more than incapable for a pretty simple job. I bring this up because a lot of folks in NorCal seem to think this place should be a deli, or a spa that happens to serve Michelin-star calibre food, or some other kind of hipster cafe. You're in for a rude awakening if that's your Disney delusion. Earthbar is a place for people who want good, clean food, freshly pressed juices and a curated selection of vitamins. They have a bunch of prepackaged meals that are awesome, catering to vegan, paleo and other dietary preferences. And, make no mistake, Earthbar's shakes are simply the best. These 500-calorie concoctions turn ordinary mortals into Kryptonians, after all. What about the Earthbar team? Well, the people who work here are super cool. But they certainly deal with a lot of volume, since this location serves Equinox members, the influx of people from Sports Club LA, and a seemingly endless procession of startup folks from nearby companies. (Pro-tip: Be nice to the Earthbar team, as their job is not always easy.) Nutshell: If clean, healthy food is your objective, don't bother going anywhere else. The location is a bit tricky here because there's no posting outside the building and you have to go inside and take the elevator to the 4th floor. But once you get there, it's nice and fresh and open. I got an acai bowl and it was not good. They only put bananas blueberries and granola in it, and it was all completely frozen. This place does it right. Healthy ready to go meals - high protein, high fiber, no added sugar (minus salad dressing), relatively low sodium. Hence, on the blander side but still palatable and satiating - I eat one of their portions after a workout and I feel full without any of the sleepiness an hour later that can happen with meals with less fiber and protein and more added sugar. Price is a little steep - $13.50 for a plate which is meat/veggies/grain or vegan options (paleo options as well) - but overall on par with typical SF prices. Had the chocolate smoothie it was good had 1/2. Went home chilled helped the kids etc. About 3 hours later felt off had stomach pains. Thought not much more about it. The next day had decreased appetite and increased thirst. Had not eaten the day after except a bar . Came home and had to lay down abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea. Basically the whole weekend was shot. Still recovering hope this goes away soon. read more

Super watered down smoothies. Or the fruit they're using is not very good because they're lacking in potency and flavor. If you have decent fruit, you don't need to add agave. It tasted like it was half ice but apparently no ice was added. The acai bowl description says it comes w fresh strawberries and instead they use frozen tasteless blueberries, even in the middle of strawberry season. I eat here weekly usually before or after I workout or just on days I do homework (graduate student). I really enjoy the Acai bowl and am probably going to try the beauty bowl too. The names on some of the drinks make me laugh "slim down" "muscle up". The staff are nice and the place is pretty clean. I do wish they had more vegetarian options that were not just vegetables (tofu, veggie meat). The prices are pretty high, but the fresh quality really feels great when you eat it.
