Big mistake. I ordered eggs benedict. When it finally arrived at the table, it was cold and the hollandaise sauce was runny and broken, and the English muffin was completely saturated and soggy. The waffle fries were soggy and completely saturated with grease. It was disgusting... damn sure not worth $14+. My boyfriend ordered extra crispy hash browns and eggs over medium; he got under cooked hash browns and over easy eggs. The only reason we ate the slop was because we were starving and in a hurry. This little spot was a pleasant surprise. Clean and fast service! The staff worked very hard helping each other. We had at least 4 waitstaff help us during our visit. We both ordered the Scrambler. I had the bacon, cottage fries and biscuits and gravy with my eggs. The biscuits were hot and fresh and the gravy was hot and creamy with a few pieces of sausage (just the way I like it!). This is our go-to place for breakfast. There is a huge breakfast menu and everything I've tried has been great. The portions are huge. I always have plenty of leftovers. The staff are friendly, but not the typical overly sweet young men or women you find at some of the more trendy places around town. I've been a fairly regular customer of Scramblers for a number of years...primarily for breakfast. Their traditional bacon/sausage/ham and eggs and toast breakfast options are always good.....as are their omelets -- at least the omelets I've had. Their "special" breakfast of the day is always enough for me. Of special interest to me, they also provide a very good homemade white and raisin bread option and a very nice....and large...tasty cinnamon roll (a meal in itself). Their pancakes are huge. They have very good and attentive customer service by a number of ladies who have been with Scramblers for quite some time. They don't seem to have the problem in finding and keeping good staff that several other restaurants seem to be having right now. From the owner walking around bussing tables, the friendliest waitstaff, the kids hostessing to the menu that states "seniors 55 and over deserve and have earned the right to a 10% off discount to any meal" AND kids 2 & under eat off the children's menu at an even discounted rate on that. The food is good enough and the place is great when everywhere else is too busy. However, the service is very inconsistent. Sometimes it is homey and gives a great warm atmosphere but other times you might as well not have a waitress. I've had the experience where the waitress keeps the coffee going and is attentive. Orders are accurate. You know the most basic expectations. I've also had the experience where 2 out of the 4 orders were incorrect and the waitress barely checked in. My daughter was out of juice for the greater part of the meal. When we finally got her attention and everyone else was practically done eating. She told us that it would be an upcharge for more juice. What happened to "give em' the pickle"? As the customer my daughter just wanted to be able to finish her food and wash it down. It's a small family run diner, with a big following by the area locals, fair pricing, and very pleasant staff. My wife has been here before years ago, but me being the transplant, I've never been here before. They were busy, and short staffed, but that didn't seem to bother the folks who kept pouring in, or the very busy, and very tired staff who were there working as hard as they could. The restaurant was clean, and neat, the staff were very friendly and helpful. It's not every place that the owners will come out and talk to you like you're an old friend either, which was a plus in our book. The prices were very good, and the portions were healthy and plenty. The atmosphere with all the family pictures and all the cute witty sayings on the walls made you feel like you were in someone's home, and they were serving you their food. We loved it immensely, and we will now make this place our breakfast and lunch diner destination for as long as they stay in business. We ate here two days in a row, and each time we gave our server a well deserved nice tip. I will recommend this place to all my family and friends. It's a shame they close at 2 in the afternoon though, we would probably even go here for supper if they were open. Take a bow Scramblers, you just gained more fans and potential regulars. Let me start by saying we have been regulars at scramblers. However we are not on the hunt for a new Sunday morning breakfast stop. Our latest and last visit for a while. I go for the ham and cheese skillet with a biscuit and gravy side. The lady went for her usual fried egg scramwitch and biscuit and gravy side as well. Food comes out promptly, my eggs are sunny side up and the cheese is melty. Looks good. Dig in. Cold hash browns base layer. Taste mostly uncooked. The ladies sandwich also a bit of a mess. We both dig into out B&G and look at each other. Cold flavorless gray and dry dense biscuits. We notice the biscuit change weeks ago but this gravy was a bridge too far. Then the little lady points out that the couple next to us still haven't gotten their food. They were seated before us and we'd already finished and gotten our check while a mom comforting her small child was still waiting. The waitress was ultra nice but something was up with the kitchen today and the last few weeks for that matter. Guys we loved this place. Love how they support the troops. Love how they are small town Springfield but please fix these issues. The Good Owners who can do great things when they are keeping standards up. The Bad Something is up and the quality is way down these last few weeks/months. Customers left waiting. The Ugly Cold out of a bag tasting gravy. New biscuits are a fail in our book. I had the absolute WORST experience! The waitress literally yelled at me for not ordering salsa when I ordered my meal, gave me coffee then charged me for it when I didn't want it or drink it, and then got my order wrong! The amount of food for the price was not worth it, and when I asked to speak to a manager I got yelled at again by the waitress, who insisted that everything was priced on the menu (whether I ordered it or not) and that next time I should be more considerate that she was so busy. If she had take three seconds to stop running (literally, running) and ask if things were okay, all of the problems could have been resolved. As indicated by the name, they specialize in "scramblers" (eggs cooked to order, and a variety of topping options served over hash browns). The decor is warm and inviting (even though going through a bit of remodeling I probably wouldn't have noticed had they not had a sign up stating it was going on) and the facilities are very clean. For a place called scramblers, you have to appreciate the fact that they actually do cook their eggs well. This place has a good variety of breakfast items, and they're obviously doing something right because at least 60% of the people in there seemed to be regulars. For the food, they offer a myriad of sides and are pretty flexible with substitutions. They have fresh, homemade bread for toast but also offer other toast like rye (my go-to breakfast toast if I eat toast). I wanted to make a note about the eggs. I love me a runny egg, so I often order over easy. If you're a fan of runny but don't like the white being undercooked, then try and order yours over medium here. This is an establishment that definitely takes over easy to be a true over easy. Other reviewers have commented on the quality of the crispy hashbrowns, so I wanted to chime in. I love hashbrowns, especially when they are crispy on the outside. I, however, am a daddy's girl when it comes to hashbrowns. My dad makes the best hashbrowns, which are crispy on the outside and slightly tender on the inside. But what really elevates his for me is that the grilled onions are actually mixed in with the hashbrowns instead of here where they were simply sprinkled on top. I'm sure that's because Scramblers makes a ton of hashbrowns in the morning and not everyone is onion obsessed like me. So, although the Scramblers hashbrowns were definitely better than most of the hashbrowns I've had at breakfast joints, they're still not my favorite. I really want to like Scramblers because I like the menu, the price is reasonable, and the restaurant is spacious, but I think my husband and I are about ready to give up on it because we've had so many frustrating experiences with our food not coming out as expected. For example, one time my husband ordered one of their skillets and loved it, so we took my brother-in-law there, and he ordered a skillet based on our recommendation. When it came out, the portion was so disappointingly small that we had to explain to him that it had been better when we had ordered it before. Additionally, his skillet didn't have any cheese when it was supposed to, so he had to send it back, and when it came back the cheese had just been hastily thrown on, not melted at all, so he had to send it back a second time to have the cheese melted. The same thing happened again to me last Saturday: I ordered scrambled eggs with cheese and they came out plain, so I sent them back, but the eggs I got back were the same eggs (now cold) with grated cheese just sitting on top, not melted. I was disappointed but felt bad sending my food back a second time, so my husband sent it back for me. The server didn't do a very good job of hiding the fact that she was irritated with us, which made me feel bad when all I wanted was for my food, which I was paying for, to be made the way I had originally ordered it. On yet another occasion a while back, I received runny eggs when I had requested them hard-boiled, but that time I didn't send them back because I had also requested a meat substitution and I felt bad asking for one more thing--even when it was because the server or the kitchen had made a mistake. I have been a waitress before, so I try to be a good customer. I try to be ready with my drink order on my server's first trip to my table and have my food picked out by the second trip, I don't make requests for things that aren't on the menu, and I am always willing to pay extra for any special requests I do make. I tip well, and I am forgiving when a server forgets something. I don't think that insisting that my food be made the way it's supposed to be is at all unreasonable. The fact that I have had so many experiences with an order coming out sub-standard is something that really needs to be addressed by the management. Cooks shouldn't be allowed to send out food that doesn't meet quality standards, and servers shouldn't be allowed to take it to the table. And if an honest mistake is made, responsibility should be accepted and extra care should be taken then and there to make sure that the mistake is fixed the FIRST time and the customer is satisfied or compensated instead of making the customer feel bad. read more
