The server was very nice though with our table tucked in the corner, it was hard to hard her attention for refills of drinks. Our food was very tasty and came out hot. I enjoyed my Shepards pie and my husband's curry was tasty also. We started with steak bites as an appetizer (not pictured). They were good in flavor, but tough to chew. The restaurant was very clean and well lit. The group at the bar was larger, but the restaurant remained not too loud. I did notice no changing table in the restroom, which was a nuisance. Scobie's is a wonderful neighborhood bar and restaurant that feels at home for a fun meet up with friends or a casual dinner with the family. We dropped in for an early dinner for our group of 8 with kids and had a wonderful time. When you first step inside, you are welcomed with a buzzing atmosphere of live music and conversation. The decor is a mix of modern bar with nice touches of an Irish pub. There was live music from 4-6 which set a nice festive mood but does result in a louder atmosphere. A beautiful bar with large TVs were available for catching the game. I got the fish and chips which I recommend. The fish was tender and flakey and the breading was a proper batter that added a nice crunch. The portion was quite large, and I was a big fan of the spiced curry sauce that came with the dish. My wife had the sausage roll which had a nice flakey pastry crust to it. The menu had quite the variety of Irish dishes, and I can't wait to come back to try more of them. The restaurant is also kid friendly. They provide crayons and coloring sheets and offer a decent kids menu. It's nice to finally have a higher end and more modern Irish restaurant that I'm certain will become a neighborhood staple. read more

New Year's Eve seemed like the perfect morning to head into Dorchester for a proper breakfast and hit up Scobie's after seeing some posts about it on Instagram. Great little Irish pub that features breakfast, lunch and dinner along with a weekend brunch. For breakfast, you order at the coffee shop counter but can order a full breakfast off the menu and then there are a few tables available to eat at once your food comes out. The coffee was delicious which always bodes well for the rest of the breakfast. I ordered a breakfast sandwich on a roll with fried egg, cheese and rashers. Can't go to an Irish spot for breakfast and not order rashers! The sandwich was excellent and the side of Irish breakfast potatoes that I ordered with the sandwich paired perfectly with it. Two other sandwiches at the table were gobbled up, one on an English muffin and the other on a croissant and the pancakes that rounded out the order were noted to be top notch. Need to check out this place for brunch and dinner sometime as the menu looked really good and the ambiance had a great Irish feel. Highly recommend! read more

Scobie's Cafe & Bar opened recently on Adams Street in Dorchester, in the old Adams Village Butcher Shop space (moved 2 doors down). This casual Irish cafe and bar serves up breakfast, weekday lunch, weekend brunch, and dinner in a casual bright setting. For drinks, they serve up coffee, espresso drinks, lattes, tea,10 beers on tap, bottled beers, wine and cocktails. For breakfast, they offer a Full Irish Breakfast, omelets, pancakes, French toast, Irish rolls, breakfast sandwiches, and pastries. For lunch, salads, soup, sandwiches, fish & chips, bangers & mash, steak, and chicken curry are offered. For dinner, a variety of starters, salads, seafood dishes, burgers, Guinness beef stew, shepherds pie, cornish game hen, roast of the day, rack of lamb, and pasta ala vodka. They also have a kids menu. The pricing is moderate. The space was redone which has a row tables with chairs and long soft seating along the left windows. There are a few tables in front and seating up at the bar. On my way into the city, I stopped in at Scobie's Cafe & Bar for an early dinner. I took a seat up at the bar and given a food menu by the host. It took about 5 minutes before the bartender came over to take my order. I ordered the Fish & Chips ($23 plus tax) with a glass of tap water. My food came out 10 minutes after ordering, which had two pieces of battered fried haddock, hand cut fries, mushy peas, dipping cups of ketchup, tartar sauce, and curry sauce. A bottle of Heinz malt vinegar was provided. Both the fried haddock and fries were very hot and a bit greasy. The curry sauce was good, tartar sauce was bland. The soft warm mushy peas were a good side for the traditional fish & chips. The portion was just the right size, not too big and just enough so I wasn't hungry for the rest of the night. After I was done, I got the check with Toast QR code which was $24.61 with tax and before tip. The service was straightforward once I ordered. I would come back here for the full Irish Breakfast next time. read more

Service was so poor. Server left us constantly with empty drinks, and it was a quiet process to get food in. We had to flag her over anytime we needed anything. She never checked in. Got up and got our own appetizer plates because she didn't give us not a one. Steak over done and fatty. Irish coffee was sent over black? No cream or whip, nothing, and it was only half full. Food was tasting ok but only a couple of the entrees were hot, fries stone cold. Lettuce was slimy and sour. Huge disappointment after reading the other reviews. read more

Best pancakes in Dorchester hands down, amazing coffee, and really solid corned beef hash, bacon, and sausage links. The only reason they're not getting 5 stars is because the scrambled eggs and potatoes are about as average as they come. Excited to come back and try their pastries/get another coffee! read more

As locals, we love checking out new restaurants in the neighborhood! Service was great, also love the atmosphere, very cozy! Live Irish music is a plus!! Food was also great. The fries with the fish and chips were very limp and a bit disappointing compared to the fries that came with the curry. I asked if they were different and she said they were trying some different fries with different dishes. The fries with the curry were so crispy and delicious. Idk if the holder mine came in made them soggy but I will keep in mind for the next visit! Don't forget to order a Guinness on tap, it comes from Ireland! read more

I went last Sunday morning for brunch with my 1.5 year old grandson who was restless to say the least. He also left a big mess, as toddlers do. I asked to put a game on the main TV behind the bar. The waitress, I think her name was Laura-Jayne couldn't have been more pleasant and accommodating! She was prompt and attentive! The food was excellent. I highly recommend the brunch here! read more

Food not good at all. Ordered the roast of the day which was pork. Came with potatoes, vegetables and gravy. The pork was very dry and the "gravy" was salty water. Didn't have any veg so I asked. Someone can out of the kitchen and said here is your side order of veg and I explained it was supposed to be part of the dinner. I tasted the broccoli and it was boiled in the same water as the pork (not roasted). The lollipop lamb chops were overcooked and dry. Nothing was eaten. We were told there would be some credit but that never happened. Crazy as it sounds the silverware is way too thick and heavy. Too bad was looking forward for this kind of food since there are so many options in the same area. My recommendation is stay away from the food. read more

Well, the place looks pretty good from the street and as you enter the door, bar has a nice feel to it and I'd probably have hopped on a stool if there'd been one available. Next thing that crossed my mind was that it wasn't very busy for a Friday evening, which quite pleased me as waiting for tables is annoying. Anyway, drinks, I went with beer, bottled miller Lite, my companion the Pinot Grigio - beer wasn't cold enough, wine was somewhere down the bottom of home brew (must say that the Guinness looked pretty good, but didn't try it). Briefly, the starters and mains were disappointing, brie, clam chowder, steak frites and shepherd's pie, not sure who's palate they're trying to appeal to, but it's not one from any part of Ireland or Irish America I'm familiar with. Of particular concern was the steak, it appeared to have been drenched in chimichurri, completely overwhelming the flavor of the meat (which otherwise had been cooked very well), the side salad with the shepherd's pie(which looked great), was swimming in balsamic, the pie itself should have included the vegetables to break up the dish and give varying textures, not served as a side. My other gripe, when the front door opens you can feel the breeze all the way to the back wall. As a matter of interest I took a look at the diners and noted how many were eating with their jackets on, only one gentleman out of 30 or so patrons had removed his coat. So, disappointed, wouldn't stop me going back in though(I live over the line in Milton), but won't be considered as a venue for anything but beer and bar food. read more

The bar staff was attentive and friendly. I ordered the chicken skewers with tzatziki and cucumbers. It was served with no tzatziki or cucumbers. I asked to for them, but was only given a watery sauce. So, you say.. why are you ordering Greek food in an Irish place. Fair enough, but by friend got the roast beef and it was so tough that it was hard to get a knife through it. After one bite I gave my food back., deciding to stay with the drinks. It's is one thing if the food is bad, but when that is topped by horrible customer service, the experience sours. The bartender offered me a free drink because I was assuming he was trying to make up for the bad experience. I said yes, thanked him, then enjoyed the drink. The bill came and I was charged for my dinner. The bartender explained that the manager would not take the food off. When I asked to speak to her, he told me that she then agreed to take it off the bill. But, the manager put the free drink I was given and drank back on the bill. Is that even legal???When I did actually speak to the manager, she explained that the bartender did not have the authority to give me a free drink. What?? So I did not have to pay for my dinner, but DID have to pay for my free drink, that incidentally was more expensive than the food. I fear this establishment may need a customer service make over. read more

Went here for anniversary dinner on a Tuesday. It was about 5 pm , a few patrons around. Beautiful and bright nicely decorated. Bar staff not too attentive, they were having an education session on how to pull the perfect pint of Guinness . Ordered the fish and chips , it came out barely warm . Mushy peas dry and cold Curry sauce warm not cooked enough . My husband had the steak with mash and vegetables. One ice cream scoop of mash and a smaller amount of veg . Steak was excellent, disappointed in the amount of veggies, after all it is the least expensive part of the meal . Also, had the charcuterie , 2 pieces of delicious brown bread. 6 pieces of cheese , about 8 grapes , some apple slices and a fruit chutney . Bread and cheese was delicious, didn't like the chutney , four slices of bread would have been better also add butter in case someone wants that for the bread . We had to catch the staff's attention every time we needed something. Had a few beers and some wine , check was $178 . Pricey overall considering the cold food and lack of service. I will chalk that up to the Guinness education piece . That should have been done off hours not when the restaurant was starting dinner service. Will give it another shot sometime. read more
