The fish tacos were super flavorful, the shrimp had a nice char, and the fresh pico on top added just the right amount of brightness. The little cup of spicy sauce on the side tied it all together perfectly. The Pomegranate lemon drop was fruity, refreshing, and strong enough to remind you it's not just juice . The staff is always friendly when we come here. The remodel was worth the wait while they were closed. The layout is similar to what it was before but modernized and cleaner. We ordered the beef stew potato skins to start, which I feel could have used a tad more flavor or at least some salt. Overall they were good. My McSwiggans Burger was top notch, cooked perfectly medium well. All the flavors were there and the burger remained juicy. The buns are of great quality as well. My fiance shared the same sentiment with his Guinness BBQ Burger cooked medium. The salads were also well balanced with the right amount of dressing which is rare. We love this place and it's in our rotation for dinner places. read more

Right from the start my experience at McSwiggen's was fantastic. We were greeted by waitstaff that brought us to our table. After being seated our waitress brought us a chilled glass bottle of water which impressed me. I had noticed the water station when I came but the fact they put it in chilled bottles was a great presentation as opposed to just filling our glasses and we were able to serve ourselves right away. Thought this was a nice touch and the fact it wasn't tap water. Our waitress was friendly and efficient and knew the menu well which I appreciated. She could give us feedback on dishes from her own experience. I chose the MacSwiggen's burger which was cooked to my liking and delicious!!! The lettuce, tomato and onions were all fresh and the garlic aioli was YUM!!! For an appetizer we had the Mezze plate which had hummus, tzatziki, olives, roasted peppers and pita chips, again presentation was great and everything so fresh. Finally I had the best gin and tonic made with lavender gin and garnished with blueberries and raspberries floating in the drink, I highly recommend this and both dishes mentioned above. If you are there in the evening on Saturday they have Irish music!!! Stop by McSwiggens in Weymouth you won't be disappointed. read more

Edit 2: My edit at the bottom was in response to Lydia's extremely rude response to my initial review. She has since edited her response to what you now see. I won't bother restating exactly what she said as you can reverse engineer from my edit below. Suffice it to say, customer service is not a priority for McSwiggans. Went here with a group. I've been here once before under the new ownership and had a decent experience. This time was an absolute disaster. I arrived about 30 minutes late and everyone in the group had ordered drinks but hadn't received them yet. I ordered my drink and finally 10 minutes later we all got our drinks. Two people ordered Mai Tais and they were disgusting. I mean bad on them for ordering a Mai Tai at an Irish place, but why would they have it on the menu if they didn't know how to make it. I've never seen so much fruit in a drink. Big hunk of pineapple, orange slice, and 8-10 cherries each. It was more fruit salad than drink. The drinkers in question complained about the drink after we all had a sip and confirmed it was gross and were offered a replacement drink. More on this below. They had one server working despite them having an event, Music Bingo, which I presume they expect to draw a crowd. Almost every table was full at the restaurant. I felt so awful for this poor server, it was her second or third shift at the restaurant. She did an amazing job given the circumstances she was given. We finally ordered our food and waited another 45ish minutes for food. There was at least one item that was forgotten and finally showed up as we were walking out the door. The food itself wasn't memorable except for the clam chowder. Others had it and said it wasn't very good. I've never seen jaundiced clam chowder before. We had planned on hanging out and having a few more drinks but our plans quickly changed. Back to the drinks, when the replacement drinks for the Mai Tai arrived, they tasted like there was zero alcohol in them. The drinkers complained again and, about 30 minutes after the complaint, the bartender, who turned out to be one of the co-owners came to the table. She proceeded to berate and embarrass the two 70+ year old women who were having the issues with the drinks. She gave them a hard time about half the Mai Tais being gone and that they had drank the entire replacement drinks. Half the Mai Tais were gone because it was 1/3 fruit salad and many of us had tried them to confirm they didn't taste right. No mention was made of the fact that they hadn't cleared a single glass from the table in 2 hours and hadn't filled our water glasses. So the grandmas' only options were drink the drinks they were given or have nothing. In my opinion, Lydia, the co-owner in question, needs to find a new line of work because she doesn't seem to be cut out for the hospitality industry. I look forward to her inevitable response below. The bottom line is don't waste your money here. Go to The Cottage or Mad Hatter instead if you want a good Irish place. Edit to Respond to Lydia: They complained about the replacement drinks as soon as they could after receiving them. It's not our fault that you were understaffed and the poor server couldn't handle the issue sooner. Regarding the Mai Tais, they drank half, if that, those were your exact words. The one woman who said she was okay with the drink was doing so because she was afraid that given your behavior and response the situation would escalate. As far as I'm aware the replacement drinks were on the paid tab. As to the $42, at no point did anyone in the group ask to be put on a separate tab. The entire tab was paid at once. If McSwiggan's neglected to include items on the tab then that's on you. I don't even know who the woman at the end of the table was because I didn't arrange the evening. Your mindset is proving my point from my initial review. I'm not "throwing insults" I'm stating facts and opinions. Another opinion is that you'll be out of business by Christmas. I do enjoy that you're showing your true colors to other potential patrons. Caveat Emptor read more

We were the first ones through the door when they opened, just planning to grab a quick bite, but we ended up hanging out all afternoon. The food was fantastic, the vibe was just right, and the owner's Irish charm (and accent) made the whole experience even better. On the day before St. Patrick's day I went there with a friend and it was packed inside and outside. There was a great energy among the patrons while they watched Rugby on the televisions and later listened to some live music. The atmosphere was lively and great and our server was pleasant on always within reach. We started off with the Fried Mushrooms for an appetizer. They were delicious. The mushrooms were juicy and flavorful inside and the coating was lite and not overly crunchy. I ordered the Fish and Chips which came with 4 small pieces of fish as opposed to one or two larger pieces you may get elsewhere. The coating was perfect and the flavor of the fish was fresh and delicious. My friend order the Honey Glazed Salmon, which may have been on the weekly special menu. my family and I would go to this establishment very often until recently we've noticed quality and quantity has changed and the last few times we had been I had woken up with some sort of food poisoning from meals that you'd think wouldn't cause food poisoning. service has also gotten very bad after I've noticed a few very good employees have left. management is fairly incompetent and hostile as well I would not recommend this place edit: she says it's bogus but I've had food poisoning twice from this establishment and it takes over an hour for food and 30+ minutes for bartender service Lydia is an insecure bitch who can't handle the criticism for her business. maybe don't run a business if you can't stand the bad reviews that come with a business especially when your chef is known to hack and cough over the food. a server told me this fyi. will NOT be back read more

Went to dinner here with my husband. He ordered the fish and chips I ordered the Shepherd's Pie. The food came, it was very hot. My plate was not quite near me, so I had to "walk" my hot plate closer to me with out getting burnt. The fish and chips were very good. My pie was shepherd's Pie soup. I swapped it out with a steak tips salad. I don't know what happened, but it was very weird. The service was good. read more

Really terrible visit we had. Poor service, and the food was not good at all. Would rate the food 2/10. We were explaining to the server (nicely) what was not right about one of the dishes and she LAUGHED at us. So appalling. And very clearly didn't care, or make any effort to fix the issue. The lighting in the dining area is awful. They have all these nice lamps and warm lights, but they get drowned out by these bright white overhead lights that made it feel like we were eating dinner in a Walmart or a hospital waiting room. Has potential to be a good Irish pub, but I've never seen awful fluorescent lighting at actual pubs in Ireland. I never even knew I cared about lighting until I was in this place and realized it was the opposite of a cozy atmosphere most people want from a pub. If they fix that, I'd give them another shot. Service was awful, waitress took forever every step of the way, to the point that I had to flag down someone else to ask for our check. We were going to order dessert or another round of drinks, but since the server took forever and we just wanted to get away from the obnoxious lights at that point, we decided against it. Also the menu said the bruschetta had feta cheese, but it was definitely goat cheese on there when we ordered it. Might not be a big deal to many, but if you love feta cheese and hate goat cheese, it matters. Would have said something to the waitress but she never came by to check in, so I just scraped it off. Would've sucked for someone with a goat cheese allergy thinking they were getting something else. (Is goat cheese allergy a thing? I don't know) Food was pretty good otherwise and I'd give it another shot if they change the lights. But right now I never want to step foot back in that place. read more

McSwiggan's is our go-to spot when traveling from Boston to Cape Cod. They came to our rescue last summer when they agreed to keep the kitchen open for our party of 5 (ranging from 12 to 78 years old) fresh off a flight from Houston. Another place down the street had already turned us away saying we just missed their kitchen hours. We were so delighted to find McSwiggan's and were even more delighted when it was so welcoming and delicious! We tried it again today -- back by popular demand -- and it is welcoming and delicious even when not desperate! The service is impeccable; a fantastic friendly, neighborhood vibe even if you're not from the neighborhood. We highly recommend the chowder, shepherd's pie, and fish and chips.
