Really, really delicious. Bacon cheeseburger with fried egg on top - excellent fries. Significant other got veggie pizza. Both delicious. Have not been here for years. It got busy as basketball playoffs were on at the bar but regardless, it's a cozy spot. Food really good and we were not rushed. read more

We had a great time on Saturday when we happened upon Four Square Restaurant. They were hosting a Kentucky Derby Party that we had no idea about. When we first arrived, it was very quiet but as the race grew closer, the restaurant became very crowded. We ordered some mozzarella sticks for apps, which were excellent. We then had a grilled chicken sandwich, cheeseburger and veggie sandwich. I had regular fries and the other two ordered waffle fries. All the food was excellent. My chicken sandwich was particularly delicious! My daughter is still raving about the waffle fries! Service was solid, even though it was very busy and the crowd was focused on the Derby! I liked the neighborhood feel that I felt. It was obvious to me that everyone knew each other, which was cool. I gave 5-stars because of the food, atmosphere and solid service! If I lived in the Braintree area, I would definitely visit often. read more

Ended up here after the place I was hoping for turned out being closed for lunch. I have to agree with some of my fellow Yelpers. This is not a foodie destination, but a neighborhood hangout. Go in with some people, order drinks or shots (shots written on the wall sounded interesting) and get food to not drink on an empty stomach. I had to drive later that day, so it was just food for this time. Ordered the Four Square Burger cooked medium (with cheddar), and waffle fries as a side. Waffle fries were very good! They were cooked very nicely and didn't require additional salt or pepper (though I add pepper to literally everything). One note: they had a light taste of wonton, not sure if intentional or not. (Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining.) The burger was a miss for me, primarily because it was over-cooked. A tiny amount of pink and juice, and everything else was well done. The meat appears seasoned, but rather lightly for my taste (compounded by being overdone). As for the egg: I'm not sure if they were going for over hard... usually burgers include a runny egg that ties ingredients together. Veggies were certainly there, but I personally like them just a little more pronounced (possibly compounded by the burger's size.) This thing was massive! Meat, bacon, and the wonderful golden and gooey cheddar were not skimped on! The service was excellent, and the location was superbly clean. (Full disclosure, I think I was one of the first people in that day). I don't see myself returning for food, but might meet a friend for a drink when the current situation allows. read more

My husband and I had been waiting to go here. We heard amazing things so when we noticed it was open we finally went and we were so disappointed. Let me start with the good though. The new look is great. We loved the color, bar, restrooms and high tops. The French fries and the pretzels are a must. I would love to see a spicy or grain mustard option for the pretzel or even a nachos cheese sauce. One thing, it's not a giant pretzel, it's two medium sized pretzels. Which is fine but keep it transparent on the menu. Ok, now the main reasons for the score. First, plastic picnic style plates do not have any business in a full service restaurant. I hope the dishwasher was out or not hired yet to justify using them. Second, the burger is clearly from BJs or Costco. Why even ask me how I want it cooked if it's a cheap/thin piece of meat? It's literally a burger you'd get in a high school cafeteria. And for $9?? Absolutely not. Third, many of the sandwich options have additional add-ons for $1. Just cost it out appropriately so it doesn't look like your scraping for cash. Finally, service was really slow. There were maybe 6 people there at different stages of dining and it took us almost an hour. I think this place has potential but we won't be returning anytime soon. read more

This place was just OK. The bartender doubled as our server, and he did a great job. The food itself was what brought the downfall. The buffalo tenders were tossed in a very bland sauce, and the blue cheese dip was very thin, like you could drink it. It didn't hold well on the wings. The meatballs were decent tasting, but not memorable. They were practically cold, but the sauce they poured on top was very hot, so it evened out, until you took a bite of the meatball. The burger (ordered medium) was charred on the outside and the inside was barely cooked, so you could tell the meat was frozen. Wasn't cooked from an even temperature to get it to medium. I had the La Bistecca sandwich was was okay, but not what I was expecting. It was chunks of steak, which were tasty, but not plentiful. The fries were OK. Not sure if I'd come back, for two beers, two apps, and two sandwiches, it was decently priced. Had a lot of TVs and seemed like a cool place to hang out for beers and games. read more

My rating out of 10: 8 Four Square has a cool pub atmosphere that I can imagine can be a bit chaotic and noisy during peak, but it was great for a late lunch. I had the buffalo mac and cheese, and it was off the chain good! Their four cheese blend is super creamy and flavorful, and the buffalo chicken throughout kicked it up quite a few notches, making for a fairly spicy dish, especially for the Boston area. It also had tomato and spinach throughout, rounding out one of the tastier mac and cheeses I have had in quite some time. There are lots of beers on tap to choose from, and many other choices besides mac and cheese, many of which looked amazing as they came out to other tables. I will definitely be back! read more

I am so sad to see what had become of my favorite local restaurant. Four square had amazing food. The menu was very unique with an Italian flare, I enjoyed everything including the pizza and the four square sandwich. Each menu option was a step above basic and we returned week after week. We visited a few weeks ago with high hopes and were quite disappointed. The menu is basic to say the least. Had the calamari that came with blue cheese and carrots and celery...it wasn't buffalo. My husband had a burger that looked like a smaller burger than a McDonald's burger microwaved. He was very disappointed given his love for the burgers at the old Four Square. I had a bar pizza which was nothing to write home about, didn't compare to any legendary bar pizzas in the area. I'm impartial to their old pizza as bar isn't my favorite but this bar pizza was subpar at best. Again, the menu is basic. 'Burger', 'chicken sandwich', 'pretzel', 'basket of fries' etc. it's missing that step above that used to be. One other comment is that I feel it's missing it's identity. Is it a bar or is it a restaurant? It's too small to be a bar but only had about 5 tables, all high tops so it's not family friendly anymore. I'm not rushing back, as sad as it makes me. Ordered ginger soy wings, arancini, and poutine from Grub Hub yesterday. The wings were way too big, you know, like the unfortunate chickens raised in industrial facilities to be abnormally large. Sauce was great. The arancini were also way too big and lacking any kind of oooomph. The fries and gravy for the poutine were fine, but the menu stated poutine cheese is gruyere, though it tasted like blue. I would say stick to curds. One star for fast Grub Hub delivery. We happened upon this spot accidentally. After parking to go try Passport Sips and Tapas we found it was closed. So we wandered down the street and found Four Square. We grabbed 2 seats at the bar and noticed that the persons to both our right and left were having pizza. It looked really good and the woman next to me confirmed that it was as good as it looked. We decided to give it a try and we were surprised at how very good it was. This is one of the best pizzas on the south shore. It's not a bar style pizza, but more of an Italian style with a rim of crust. This pizza has it all: good sauce, good cheese, great crust. All together it's a gem of a pizza. The bartender was very nice and attentive and the atmosphere was friendly. We will definitely go back. read more

Hallelujah! So I am a burger and fry girl through and through, but I'm always a little hesitant about ordering a burger through delivery (there's always the risk of a dry burger, or soggy bread). But this burger blew me away! The flavor is incredible, it's still juicy and the bun isn't soggy. I decided to mix it up a bit because of the reviews for the onion rings seemed legit, and I am so happy that I went with them! Last light was my first and last time at this establishment. Wednesday Dec. 21st 2022. My friends and I decided to get a drink at Four Square last night. I waited patiently at the bar for a drink because there was only one bartender so I was prepared to wait. I sat there talking to friends not an issue in sight. When the woman bartender got to me I asked if they had Downeast ciders. She told me no and recommended something else so I asked for 2 of the ciders she recommended. She asked to see my ID and as I was ready to show she walked away to serve other people for 20 minutes. I waited patiently because I also work in restaurants so I understand how it can be stressful to work alone on a busy night. When she came back she remembered what I wanted and asked for my ID. I handed it over and as she was reading it, I asked politely if I could actually get 3 of the ciders. Since the place was loud I also put up the number 3, as one does in a crowded loud bar... The woman proceeded to tell me she (with attitude) didnt "need my attitude" and that I could "get out" and "I am not serving you". I responded what in shock looking to those around me to confirm what just happened. I walked back to my table in shock with the way she treated me, a paying customer. Not even 5 minutes later my other girl friend came back to the table explaining the same experience. This bartender claimed we had attitude after asking for a drink, yet she proceeded to serve all of our male friends that asked for drinks. I felt extremely disrespected. I've been here countless times - always had wonderful service and the food is always amazing! After tonight's visit, I feel the need to write this review. Walked in just after the start of the first quarter of the Pats-Eagles game, saw a regular bartender who let us know our server, Jane, would be right with us - great, not too busy, maybe 10 empty tables. Well Jane came over, tossed the menus at us and walked away. Came back almost 10 minutes later asking if we wanted drinks. We told her we were ready to order and she heard my beer order as a sandwich order. I calmly told her what I wanted, both food and drink, turned to my boyfriend and took his food order and walked away without taking his drink order! After she brought our drinks (forgetting one of them mind you), came back and asked again what we ordered. When I told her what we orders, she glared at me and said 'I heard you, I'm not deaf'. After this, she refused to speak with me only 'to' my boyfriend, brought his order and left mine sitting on the service window as she folded silverware/napkins. I want so bad to give this place a 5, and on any other night I would, but tonight the only reason for the 1 star is the food - out of this world as always! The chefs knows what their doing! Four Square Restaurant and Bar has quickly become my top choice venue for a night out. Since their soft opening in February I have been there at least once every week they have been opened. Let's start with the beers. These guys know what they are doing. They have a very large selection of beer on tap. These beers range from exclusive offering from Massachusetts brewers (Blue Hills, Mayflower, Wachusett, Harpoon, and many more) to your standards (Bud Light, Guinness, etc.). The beer is top notch and the beer menu makes it easy to see what's new on tap this week. They also have no problem giving out free samples of the draft beer prior to purchase which I find very unique to the area. In addition they have specialty drinks such as Sangria and beer cocktails that brings a whole new twist on many of the beer offerings. Food is top notch. Everything is fresh and most everything (pasta, sauces, etc.) are handmade. They guys in the back really put on a show too. You can see them working hard putting together your meal. The appetizers are great and the portions are large enough that you could split two of them over a Bruins/Celtics/Red Sox/Pats game and call it a meal. So far I have tried the pasta bolognese with sausage, the calamari, a cheese pizza, bacon cheeseburger, and steak tips. I have no complaints about any of the dishes. A lot of the dishes have their own unique twist that the chef puts on. The bolognese with sausage provided a larger than expected amount of meat in a very rich but not overpowering sauce. The calamari is mixed with peppers for flavor and served with a homemade garlic marinara sauce where you could actual pieces of fresh garlic. The steak tips and the burger are 100% natural Angus beef and you can tell Four Square takes pride in that offering. The prices for beer are very reasonable and the atmosphere is great. I look forward to becoming a regular and enjoying many of the special upcoming events (beer tastings, live music, etc.) that Four Square is offering. read more

Oh man. So upset that this place is sliding downhill. First visit was right after they opened. Awesome food, great atmosphere and hey- they carry Abita Purple Haze (my favorite)!. I had a chicken marsala dish which the chef kindly prepared for me without mushrooms and it was so, so good. We couldn't wait to return & continue to support this local business. Second visit a few months later. Slightly less exciting. Still loved the arancini but this time I was told no when I asked about getting the marsala without mushrooms. Tried something else- must have been unremarkable since I don't even remember what it was. Third visit was a couple weeks ago on a rare night out with my husband. Arancini was still good & we tried the broccoli rabe & enjoyed that. The XTudo burger was the downfall- ordered medium. First one came out burnt, second one came out charred on the outside, raw on the inside. The server seemed as disappointed as I was. My husband's meal was also disappointing, albeit edible. We had come in expecting to stay through dessert but made a hasty exit after a disappointing main course. It's no fun paying more than $60 (plus the cost of a babysitter) for a couple beers, 2 apps, 1 meh dinner and 1 order of french fries (since I gave up on getting a properly-cooked burger). I was surfing the web and found this place. I had no idea that Helens was gone (always too afraid to go in there, LOL). I'm originally from Weymouth, so I figured why not. I always love to go back to the Landing. The reviews were good and looking at the on line menu I was impressed. It was very crowded, but we immediately got a seat and our waitress was super prompt. Impressive wine and beer selections, with nice variety in price range. The small salads were really generous and the dressing was fab. The mac & cheese was to die for. I can still feel my arteries hardening and I only ate half. I hope the mac & cheese trend never goes away: (a) I'm a fake vegetarian (I eat fish rarely, but never meat); and (b) I am a cheese whore. My husband had the pizza and that looked quite scintilating as well. Not bar pizza, though, which I guess Helens used to have. It was more of a semi-thin crust pizza. Nice selection of toppings and $6.00 for a plain, unreal. The best thing - the prices. Our bill was under $50 for all that food and two drinks each. Clean bathroom at the end of the meal and entertaining live music. We'll be back. Kind of noisy, but it is a bar, just a very nice one. read more

Wandered in on a weeknight looking for some grub and a cold beer. I think our arrival was ill-timed as apparently the shifts were changing. After a few minutes, a bartender came by and gave us menus and took drink orders, but after that it took over 10 minutes for another bartender to look in our direction. To be fair, the new bartender taking over likely assumed we were just sipping beers unless the departing bartender had told him we were looking to eat as well...so we hardly blamed him for that. When we did get some attention, it was friendly and with a smile. Draft list wasn't half bad - really good selection (I do hope they take advantage of being right next to the Craft Beer Cellar) from all over. I was so distracted by the menus that I could hardly decide on what to eat...and not distracted by the choices, but distracted by the TYPOS. I counted (yes, I'm pretty OCD, of course I counted) 12 spelling errors. I can overlook one or two...but 12!? Honestly, the erroneous spelling does not factor into my rating at all and in fact, provided me a giggle with such gems as "humms" and "pinco de gayo". So anyway, we ordered the Buffalo Chicken Meatballs to start (AMAZING. Highly recommend you try. Spicy-hot, yes...but not in a sear your taste buds off way...in a really flavorful way). I decided to go with the X-Tudo Burger (burger topped with bacon, fried egg and crispy onions). I ordered it medium rare, but it came out medium-well. That would have been A-OK had the egg yolk been runny. The egg was over-easy and the yolk was dry and crumbly. I was sad because it had so much potential! JT ordered the pulled pork pizza and that was really good. We ended up taking half of it home with us and it was just as yummy the next day. The pulled pork had great flavor, not too sweet, not too tangy. We will definitely be back as the vibe was cool and the beer list was good. read more

My review is for bar service only - it has been years since I sat at a table and I honestly don't recall the experience that much. My husband, and our pals, often choose to saddle up to the bar when we go out and Four Square has an inviting one for sure. It's a lucky occasion if you can secure the end spots that wrap around the corner. We have been several times; on the weekend and on weekdays (during vacations and the like) and on weekday evenings. I've always found the bartenders to be friendly and even when busy, they generally let us know they will be right with us (way better than wondering if your presence has been noticed.) My husband and I recently popped in for a late lunch. They have some solid lunch deals, one being a cheese pizza for 5 dollars. It's thin crust, greasy bar pizza that you can't help but fold as you eat so you can get it safely in your mouth - and I mean that in the kindness of ways. It comes out fast and they always serve it up with some parm and crushed red pepper on the side; I never even have to ask. The draft list keeps getting better and they have a solid bottle selection with deals on buckets of tall boys if you are in it for the long haul (or watching a sporting event.) I've always found the service to be friendly, particularly a male bartender that is often there during the day. He keeps my water glass refilled and checks in every so often so we're never left without a drink in hand. I can't attest to any of the other menu items than pizza and salad I'm sorry to say. I always think I'll try something new and then someone near me orders a pizza and I remember how excellent and cheap it is and change my mind. This is definitely a regular in our regular rotation and after we're done, we can pop into nearby Craft Beer Cellar for a little post-noshing perusing of delicious brews to be enjoyed later. read more

Great neighborhood bar with really great food! Its very easy to drive past or overlook this place (it doesn't help that driving through and parking in and around the Landing is a nightmare) but people do manage to find it as it can get crowded on some nights, but for good reason. The food is definitely a step above "neighborhood bar food" (whatever that is..) and there are usually really great specials in addition to their typical menu items. The pizza is really good bar pizza!! The lacking 2 stars come from very uneven service. While the bartenders and servers are (generally) pretty friendly, service always seems to be off. From waiting for refills, to missing silverware or advertised sides that were not included upon food delivery - the service is almost always lacking, though apologetic when addressed. While it has not been enough to keep me away (it is a great local spot), it is definitely notable. read more

A dense locals' scene with rotating taps, a melange of backlit liquor bottles, and compelling menu that pulls satellite Italian options in to an otherwise Americanized rundown. Arancini and shrimp fiorentina beside steak tips and and X-Tudo burger? Sure, I'll bite. Staff personalities are top notch - every person behind the bar smiled, inquired, engaged and offered. It's this kind of focus on customer satisfaction that sears a spot in the "To Return" bookmarks, as food and ambience can fluctuate by a few degrees, but a shitty service experience will chase me away for good. And it's important I mention this, because my steak tips were a miss. Ordered medium rare, the healthy portion came out ranging from requested temp all the way to very well done, and many took their gridded sear to bitter, carbonized levels. The house marinade didn't translate, perhaps because the chunks of meat (even the properly cooked ones) were dry. Frostbitten? Unrested? The world may never know. Sides of sauteed zucchini squash and gummy mashed potatoes needed more than a few passes of the shaker. Could nachos save the night? The top layer had potential, while penetrating any deeper than the epidermis yielded a pile of naked chips. A bit underwhelming for the $9 price tag. A bit of a veiled blessing that our app came out after our entrees, as we only had room to peck at the cheesy carcass anyway. Hearsay sidebar: She loved her mac and cheese. I noticed this place while across the street at El Serape about a month ago. My lady friend and I wandered down to the Landing from Maria's on Saturday night to check it out. I was expecting a local beer/shot type bar. However, after entering, we found it to be small, but clean, with a fantastic craft beer selection, many on draft. I started with a Harpoon Leviathan (bottle) for a reasonable $6, and several other selections, while my companion sampled the sangria, which was tasty and not overly-sweet, and several of their "beer-tail" mixed beer drinks. Among these was a combination of Allegash white and Framboise, and a black and tan variant with Sam Summer and Guinness. They had live music start around 10-10:30, which was a bit loud for a small place, and we didn't sample any food, though there were several items on the menu we'll try on our next visit. The service was great, the atmosphere cozy and the drink selection was fantastic. An unexpected gem for craft beers. read more

We watched him go out of his way to make amazing milkshake-sundaes for a couple of kids while their parents ogled the great beer selection. Arancini appetizer was FANTASTIC.
