Welcoming coffee ....
Allan S.

Tried the pies: vanilla peanut butter pie had pronounced vanilla flavor but not overwhelming, nice rich peanut butter flavor you'd expect and the crème topping was a nice light taste that was balanced - the crust however was surprisingly bland and tasteless. Not sure if I expected a honey taste or a typical flaky crust taste what I didn't expect was a complete void of any taste at all. The chocolate peanut butter pie was a bit different had a basic chocolate pudding taste but lacking a huge chocolate flavor like the deep flavor in the vanilla version, shockingly it was lacking was an overall peanut butter flavor while eating the pie unlike its vanilla counterpart where every bite had the PB flavor prevalent in every bite the chocolate version the PB was glaringly absent a big disappointment, the crème topping was balanced and pleasant but thick dominating the flavor of this pie - again the crust however was surprisingly bland and tasteless. Researching menus and the pie history I believe the way it used to be done and now has changed in the past the crème topping was 1/2 the thickness and the PB combo pies had a distinct PB layer between the flavored bottoms and the crème toppings that are lacking in current versions. Past crusts were distinct thickness approx twice the thickness as current versions and a whole different color much browner which would indicate it would have the "flaky" texture you'd expect from their style of pies which currently completely lack any real texture and:or flavor...perhaps it's my batch perhaps I'm being too picky I'm not a pie eater per say but I do know my crusts and what to expect out of a beloved establishment with a rich history in pie making - remember your roots and what made you famous to begin with all the good service in the world won't win you new customers with these pies unfortunately - sadly I cannot recommend these pies for dessert it pains me to write this because I was so happy to see them rebound after the fire - was my first visit as well adding to my disappointment my mum raved about them so expectations were high but alas they failed every level this particular visit - added the picture from your own menu of what I was expecting for visual representation - bring back the past flavors and flaky crust PLEASE!!! PS: Doug & Betty thank you for your reach out and responding to my review it's nice to know owners read reviews - wish more did - I certainly look forward to coming back and giving it all another try - I generally hate leaving bad reviews but also believe in honesty and sharing good and bad, you can't improve what you don't know is wrong - Blessings

Long time serving up pies and eats since 1948. Diner has the old school vibes with a counter which are the best place to sit allowing you to to be in the midst of it all. The dining area is quaint with some booth seating and tables. Service is friendly and each person had a personality that made for the best experience in this old piece of history still doing things well. Nothing screams healthy, my egg salad even had extra mayonnaise slathered on both pieces of bread. The chicken noodle soup had thick egg noodles, the small size is a very generous serving. Pies, yes they make plenty of pies and the earlier you get there your odds go up drastically for getting your choice, I don't know a pie I don't like so just bring a couple slices and call it the end of the day or diet. Awesome spot.

Vintage classic all American diner! Super homey, feels like you're in a small town here where locals come to eat and enjoy talking to each other. Service was great! Food was good! The pies were phenomenal! No complaints here. Enjoyed everything about this diner! Would love to come back again!

We absolutely love this place for breakfast, however on our last visit we had breakfast in the afternoon and the difference was like night and day.. instead of the quality we had just two days before, we ordered our usual one egg over medium homefries with onions toast and bacon. In short bacon was black on one side, potatoes were undercooked and toast was cold. We will return, but only order breakfast in the morning!!!

If you're looking for a great local spot, with down home cookin fare and some great staff, this is the spot! We came here for dinner and couldn't wait to come back for breakfast! We ordered the chocolate shake (absolutely amazing), the special (it was a Turkey mashed potato platter), a burger and a big salad and all of us were happy with our choice. My burger was perfectly cooked and had fantastic flavor. The shake was so delicious and rich I was glad I ordered a burger with salty fries - it was the perfect combination. Absolute must visit spot!!!

Stopped at Schmucker's for lunch and was blown away! We loved this place. Everything for the old-time diner feel to the phone booth ringing with to go orders. People were lined out the door waiting to get their pies to go and booths to open up. The hot roast beef sandwich would melt in your mouth. The pies we got to go were amazing. I will definitely be back here someday. Highly recommend this place! A must see and do.

Great homemade pies, including my favorite:rhubarb! Went for lunch two days ago and the place was packed (as it usually is, which tells you people love the good!}. You can get breakfast anytime and I usually do; the servings are huge and always served quickly and hot. But i decided on a cod sandwich and hand-cut fries, which were plentiful, tasty and golden. I love diners, especially ones with counters and stools and Schmucker's has 2 with 6 stools each. People usually talk to the strangers on each side of them and watch the kitchen and waitstaff action. There also 3 or 4 booths and a couple 4 top tables. These are real servers, handling 6 customers at once, calling you "sweetie," and regulars by their first name. My food was hot and delicious and got my pie to go. The crust was flaky and the rhubarb filling tart, which i love. Customers will find specials like hot toast beef or turkey with mashed potatoes, meatloaf, and other comfort meals. The restaurant and women's restroom were clean and eating areas wiped clean immediately. If you're tired of fast food and impersonal eateries, check out this place.

Diner food at its best--this is a must-stop in Toledo if you like this kind of food & feel! Meatloaf was fluffy and mouthwateringly savory. Breakfast burrito has the fluffiest eggs ever--quite a feat when the eggs are stuffed & rolled inside a tortilla! Best thing we ate, though, was the chocolate peanut butter pie. Again, crazy fluffy and was exactly the right flavor profile. We also had a chocolate peanut butter shake to which we asked to add bananas. Also fluffy and yummy!

OH MY GOODNESS WHAT A WONDERFUL DINER!! We stopped in while visiting Toledo and had just the best service! Our waitress was patient, helpful, and had a pleasant demeanor. The diner has that old school no frills vibe, and even has an old phone both in the back. My travel companion got a burger and fries that they enjoyed, while I got the hot roast beef sandwich served dinner style. So that means my meal came with a huge side salad, homemade chicken noodle soup with delicious thick noodles, a giant roast beef sandwich covered in brown gravy, AND I was hooked up with the potato trifecta! So mashed with gravy, fresh cut fries, and homefries! Seriously I was in a heavenly food coma with this meal and gobbled it down. (Well, there was a ton of food so I had to get to-go boxes and have a second dinner later that night in my hotel bed haha). Before we came in we looked at their website to see what pies were on special and their snickers pie was one we wanted in our bellies! However, when we arrived it was about an hour before closing and we were told that popular pie was sold out for the day. So instead we ordered slices of cherry and PB & chocolate pie. BUT, our server must be a foodie angel because she casually dropped a whole dang snickers pie on our table for us to take home and enjoy! When we got back home we split the pie and shared it with friends and family. Oh lordy, that thing was the best! I had to put my loved ones piece in the freezer to stop me from being tempted to eat it before I gave it to them. I wish I could remember our servers name, because she made our stop at Schmucker's a highlight during our first time exploring Toledo. I 100% recommend this place and highly encourage leaving big tips here.

For a quality diner you cannot go wrong. The fries, the pies and the service Toledo is lucky to support a gem like this that has been a staple in Toledo for decades. Delicious meals like your mom wish she would have made. Never had a bad meal, breakfast or sandwich. And even if you're full; GET SOME PIE!

If you're looking for good pie in the city of Toledo, this is your place. It can get busy at peak times, but the workers do their best on getting you served quickly. It's small inside, but has an assortment of tables, booths, and counter service. Today I enjoyed the pie of the week "snickers". It was amazing. They have some amazing diner food like burgers, Swiss steak, salads. Something for everyone!

I hadn't realized before that there is a large room to the right of the bar area. We were there for a somewhat early dinner at 6pm on a Saturday and the place was bustling! Definitely make a reservation. (I used Open Table online two or three weeks in advance and it was very easy.) We were greeted shortly after being seated and our server advised us of the special entrees after taking our drink orders. We decided to split the roasted beet salad which also came with herbed goat cheese. Our server brought the salad on two plates- already divided. The salad was absolutely amazing!! I am seriously still craving it and the portion was so large that I couldn't even finish my half. Our server promptly boxed it up before our entrees were served. For the main course, I ordered one of the specials- scallops with rice sauteed with spinach. My friend had pork roast with carrots, which was a large portion - no complaints and she took home leftovers for another meal. I'll speak to my scallops... They were perfectly prepared, but there were only three scallops and a plentiful serving of rice and spinach. I love spinach and this side was very well seasoned. It didn't take long to eat the three scallops and the spinach pieces in the rice. I definitely enjoyed my meal, but wished for even one more scallop. Since my entree was a special that was verbally announced, I didn't know the price until I saw the bill. While it was delicious, I found the $41 charge a bit steep. The Standard is exceptional in almost every way- service was impeccable, amazing food, lovely ambiance- but be prepared for a pricey evening. My friend and I had a very enjoyable time and I definitely recommend this restaurant. I will say, however, that it can be difficult to talk because it is so busy. That said, it's popular for a reason! Check out the photos below for a virtual experience.

After the shareable alone, I knew I'd be adding Cooper's Hawk as one of my favorite brunch spots as well! The Applewood Smoked Bacon Pizza is by far the absolute best breakfast pizza I've ever had! I'm a big pesto fan & the fresh slightly acidic bursts from the oven roasted tomatoes when you take a bite is awesome! One of my go-to's if dining out for breakfast is a scramble or hash; the smoked brisket hash is a MUST! It's extra cheesy & the smoked brisket alone is unreal!! We had a reservation for 6pm and the lobby area was already packed on a Saturday. If you're familiar with the Cooper's Hawk chain, it's about wine, a cool, mostly upscale casual ambiance and generally great food. Upon entering, there is a long bar for wine tasting and also opportunities to purchase wine-related decanters, glasses and (of course!) wine! We buzzed straight through that area to check in for our reservation. And I definitely recommend a reservation unless you want to hang out for a while tasting various wines before being seated. Anyway, our reserved booth was ready right on time and was very comfortable. The restaurant was pretty busy and yet we were promptly greeted by Dante' our server. He brought us each two complimentary wine tastings before taking our wine order. He also answered questions about the menu and brought us hot pretzel bread. The atmosphere in the restaurant was on the loud side because it was so busy and at times it was difficult to hear Dante' or to converse in general. We didn't order appetizers because we knew the entrees would be substantial. In the current economy, it wasn't surprising to see that prices had definitely increased since the last visit. A glass of wine was $11 for house wine and entree's ranged in price based on whatever you chose to order. My friend ordered the Chicken Madeira, which came with mashed potatoes and asparagus. I ordered the Ellie's Chicken Piccata with pasta, which I've enjoyed on past visits, and also added a side of asparagus. Both my friend and I enjoyed our first couple of bites. My friend found that the sauce became overwhelmingly sweet on the Chicken Madeira. I found that my entrée had way too much lemon sauce, although the chicken was perfectly cooked and tender. It was rather disappointing since I remember this entree being amazing in the past. It wasn't anything bad but too much sauce was simply too much and detracted from the meal. If I ordered it again, I would request light sauce, but that's definitely a hypothetical if... I probably would order the salmon dinner. However, I'm not really in any hurry to return. Dante' did a great job as our server and allowed us to linger as we continued to catch up with each other's lives. I would recommend this restaurant with the caveat that a Saturday night would likely be very busy in the dining room and the kitchen. Check out pictures below.

This is the same exact sandwich I've gotten every time I've ever been here which is why I really haven't come back because there's not a lot of selection for me. The other reason is they got rid of the croissants on the menu LOL. The service was fast and friendly and there was about a medium sized crowd inside despite the parking lot being full. They have kind of a dark semi romantic atmosphere I guess they're going for. The chicken sandwich was nice and tender. I'm not a fan of the shoe string fries because they remind me of Steak and Shake and at this price point I think they should have some good fries here. They actually had a few craft beers on tap but I thought the cocktail prices were a little extreme at 15 plus. My girl got the roasted chicken with mashed potatoes and the potatoes were ice cold so they lose a star for that. Other than that I have no complaints except that the pricing for lunch. $20 for a chicken sandwich is a bit much to me.

This truly a wonderful experience for all ages and varying tastes. A tremendous and welcome change we've come to endure from other dining experiences. Here the customer is THE primary focus from the moment you walk in til you walk out the door - BRAVO!! The food, had the Mayberry Mega where you pick your 6 omelette ingredients. Normally a crap shoot in most diners but here it was a home run. The ham and sausage were nice size chunks, juicy, and full of flavor. Spinach, onions, and tomatoes were fresh and perfect sizes and good quantities for the dish. That leaves the cheese my one "ding" would have preferred shredded cheese vs sliced cheese because of flavor and texture - but it didn't take away from a wonderfully prepared omelette made and severed with genuine care. Potatoes were frozen BUT they were prepared exceptionally well for dinner dare they were soft and cooked with a nice crisp. It was a superb surprise and a very welcome one. The coffee was fresh and hot and the standard "acidic" coffees you'd find in most diners anywhere, but overall inviting enough to have a few cups for a discerning coffee "snob" like me. Place was PACKED so all tables and booth were full, but they have a nice counter service with plenty of seating and space to move and eat and be very comfortable for your meal. What's fascinating is the incredible teamwork and collective desire to ensure your time, experience, and meal are spent enjoying your company and food not staring at your watch wondering about time. The entire restaurant was seated, served, and cleared with clean tables within the time I had to get and consume my own breakfast. So if you see a packed house on your arrival and don't desire that counter seat fear not - in this home environment your wait will be short and your day will lose no valuable time - well worth some minimal patience - you'll be glad you did. This was a surprising delight, given that I find most Mac n cheese very boring...I would order this again in a heartbeat. It's probably really nice w the lobster addition! Brussel sprouts - nicely cooked, great flavor, with some dried cherries that I enjoyed! Again, i'd order these anytime. French onion soup - it seemed like it had some lemon, or something slightly stringent that I can't place. It gave it a lot of flavor. The cheese was a slice baked on it, but it was decent cheese. It was satisfying, onion, and tasty. This is a cozy place with tables to accommodate larger groups, good music that isn't too loud, clean bathrooms and friendly wait staff. Everyone was right to recommend this place to us. I'm looking forward to trying many of their other menu items!

Looking for a dinner spot for Friday Date Night. Our initial pick was packed as it was close to the…read moreend of Happy Hour. We then pulled in to the strip where MyWay Bistro was located. Found a parking spot not too far from the entry as the wind chill was in the single digits. MyWay was crowded, but we were seated right away. Needless to say, the noise volume was elevated. There was a large group of people on our side of the restaurant that seemed to know one another. They were rather boisterous and seemed to have consumed a fair amount of alcohol. Even witnessed a middle aged woman who could hardly walk out on her own. Prior to her bumper-pool walking style on the way out, as she was seated, she hoisted up her leg and placed her heel on the man's shoulder she was with. Mercy! Alcohol can cause strange events to happen. We both ordered the Blackened Salmon Quinoa Salad with the Walnut Raspberry Vinaigrette dressing. Salad cost $18. To me, the salmon portion was a bit smaller than anticipated, but had a good blacked spiced mix and done very nicely.
