After getting caught in some crazy traffic, my mom and I stopped for the night and got a chance to have a real breakfast and Star Diner delivered!! We were greeted upon entry and sat promptly as well. It is in a strip mall with a large ceiling, but it still had that small mom and pop diner feel to it. The waitress team was present and took our orders and the food was out in a short window. The steak and eggs really hit the spot. The eggs were real eggs. The color and texture were there. The potatoes had a hefty crunch which I liked. I asked for the steak medium well, it came out more well for sure. I wasn't gonna complain, it had a good char and it went well with the scrambled eggs. The skillet was a massive portion! Holy cow, my mom ate half and still packed the to go box! I know in some previous reviews that the coffee was highly recommended. My mom enjoyed her coffee. This review is to help prevent others from experancing unrealized expectations after patronizing this establishment. Once again, a less than mediocre experience. Today's visit required extreme tolerance and patience. Arrived early to avoid the crowds [place gets excessively noisy the more people show up] hoping to have decent service and food, not to be. Seated fast, coffee and order arrived quickly, but afterwards, nothing. The staff were too busy chatting with their backs to the dining room, totally oblivious to their customers' needs. All attempts to gain someone's attention went unnoticed (or possibly ignored) for the longest time. Nearly completing my breakfast, by an off chance I caught the attention of wandering waitress who offered to get our waitress, not coffee, but our disinterested waitress. By the way, the eggs once again were not cooked as requested, a simple task that requires little to no culinary specialties but somehow can't be accomplished. Lastly, my wife had the same difficulty trying to get a waitress's attention to request a to go box. It's really too bad and sad this establishment has deteriorated to this level of disregard and fully lacking embarrassment for their performances. It wasn't this way a few years ago. Service was spot on. And the place was spotless!! I had the South of the Border Skillet. Very healthy portion. The jalapeño cheese sauce had a perfect kick for a breakfast item. I ordered Star Special for breakfast. I watched as my plate sat in the window for over 5 minutes. The poached eggs were cold, the bacon lukewarm. My husband's eggs that he ordered over medium were runny and barely cooked over easy. Server never came to check on us until she brought the check. When we told her about how bad the food was all the manager did was take off the cost of his eggs. Several of the female severs had stringy long hair not tied back and they were constantly pushing it out of their faces. This was a terrible experience that the owner Joey Skaff needs to address. My stepson chose this establishment for his birthday breakfast. My first time here. It look decent or a little better on the inside. There was a wait and thought that to be a good sign. I have to admit it didn't take long to get seated which I was surprised. My wife was complaining that it was like Hooters but a breakfast establishment. My wife did mention she didn't like having the waitresses but in her face when taking orders from other tables. The food was what you would come to expect from a greasy diner. I had three eggs over easy, bacon (way to much fat and salty) home fries and rye toast. Only jelly they had was pre measured and it was strawberry. My wife had some skillet thing and said it was ok. My stepson had French Toast and said it was ok, it was the home fries he was there for. Our waitress was less than stellar. Took a while to get our first drinks and asked if we were ready to order right when we sat down. I hadn't even picked up the menu yet. Then it took her another 15 minutes to come back. My wife was out of coffee, son was out of his drink and I was out of water. I almost went and got it myself. When I was about to, she came back and asked if we needed anything. Here is the kicker! She came back to the table and dropped the check off and left. My son was going to order something to go for his brother. Nope! She just dropped it and left. I wanted another water and my wife wanted coffee. Nope! My stepson wanted to order for his brother to go. Needless to say that didn't happen. Only time she was pleasant was when she picked up the bill and dropped it back off. To late, tip was already ruined by then. Would I go back? The Star Dinner is a clean, well run contemporary diner set in the center stage in a fairly new strip mall. the food was quite good. an excellent omelette, hash browns all the way (highly recommended), a very good omelette, huge pieces of toast. i was eating alone (as usual, have you heard about the lonesome loser?) and it seemed to me that my order dropped to the bottom of the list, and the groups, even couples were served ahead of me... probably to keep things moving. beyond that my only complaint was i was served too much food. the omelette was as big as a small house cat, the grits came in a massive rice bowl, the hash browns sat like a small nation state on my plate. it was clearly enough for 3 people. most Americans would love this. Take home a doggie bag, etc. but i was traveling through, and it felt like the amount of food was meant to justify the fairly high cost. my breakfast was 16.95. i would have rather paid 10 bucks and left wanting more. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for an amazing breakfast experience. The place is extremely clean unlike many greasy spoon type of places. The decor is trendy and tastefully some. I arrived right at 6am and was greeted and seated immediately. The waitress was very helpful and polite. The coffee was good and was always filled when needed without asking. I ordered the chorizo omelette and came with a heap of potatoes and Texas style toast that was heavily buttered unlike most places that skimp. The omelette was huge and had a ton of cheese to the point it was like eating pizza which I loved. The food was enough for two and came out very fast. I will be making this my go to! read more

No flavor beyond the actual toast and avocado. Blah. Got soggy not even 5 minutes into the meal. Take note - a good "avocado toast" experience is your crunchy toast, a thin layer of avocado that has been seasoned w lemon/lime, S&P. THIN LAYER. Then top that green goodness smear with a fried egg, fresh slices of tomato, bacon strips and then top off with some arugula. Personally, a drizzle of extra lemon and some hot sauce. BOOM! Food: good, slightly above average, though a bit salty on occasion, large portions that arrive fairly quickly. Service: Cheerful would be just slightly above reality, for the most part pleasant, though wait staff always seem a little stressed. Once in awhile you'll get a discontented one, maybe a bad night before, maybe a displeasing customer earlier, or maybe just in a foul mood, but on the whole pretty decent. Prices: surprisingly non offending, for the amounts you get you expect to be charged more. Which brings me to the next topic. Complaint: As this complaint may not be fair considering I (we) don't frequently eat out and don't think we've stopped in more than three times in the past year, we just don't eat out that often, but it was Father's Day so we gave it a shot. The complaint comes much after the visit, came when I got my bank statement and found out I had been charged $1.48 more than I authorized. The money's not the issue, it's the principal. The fact that this has happened on two thirds of my visits kinda makes its own statement. Given the high likelihood of it happening again based on the visit to chiseling ratio (I say chiseling because if it were simply an error, it would have showed up on my receipt and I would have no one to blame but myself, but it didn't) and the fact that an email to the company addressing the issue has to date gone without the decency of an acknowledgement is what has prompted this review. I don't know what the table turn is, but for the sake of argument, let's say 7 turns for Sunday morning, that could be anywhere from $10 to $100.00 unearned revenue for someone. Great price for the large portion sizes!!! I got an omelette with ham and cheese, eggs were cooked well/good texture. The home fries were just ok, could have had better seasoning, but not bad. My only negative-ish comment is that it did get quite loud as the business filled up for lunch. This would not be the place for a quiet conversation around lunch time. Finally checked out Star Diner! I don't know why I pictured a really small, old school diner type of place...so I was pretty surprised when I walked into their Maumee location. High ceilings, modern decor. Loved the bright red tile on one wall! Hostesesses were very friendly along with the waitstaff. It was clear that they worked well together as a TEAM. My coffee mug (and water glass) was constantly topped off by either the hostess or waitress! Great strong coffee! They were very attentive even on a busy Sunday morning. My friend forgot her leftovers and our waitress ran outside in the FREEZING cold just to give it to her. THAT'S LOVE. Ordered the Banana Foster French Toast which was delicious! Loved that they used challah bread instead of Texas toast or something. This morning was one of those mornings when I was jealous of my friends who ordered stuff like corned beef hash...their omelets were served in giant serving platters and filled with delicious food. I literally went home and had to floss to get gristle bits out of my teeth from the bacon. The next day (today). I still feel like I have some between my teeth lol. The home fries were overcooked and hard. Paid an extra buck for cheese n got maybe a slice on my homefries. Eggs were unseasoned. They offered to get new bacon. I was disgusted n ready to go by then. How do u mess up bacon n eggs? Now if u want large portions, they got that in spades. I would rather have half the portion and chewable bacon.. I ate a piece n half of bacon n half a slice of toast. Totally disappointed to find out they do not have banana bread French toast or the bananas foster French toast after picking this place from Yelp based on all the photos. As a Canadian visiting the US, generally portion sizes are pretty massive when comparing to Canadian restaurants. As always, I wasn't disappointed. Ordered the corned beef hash and was brought a plate big enough to feed two average people. Prices are normal for an all day breakfast diner. Service was great. Wait staff are friendly and organized. **Here's a fun fact. I've travelled to over 30 US cities in my life, and after having done that, I can identify with complete certainty, some hilarious differences between Canada and the US. When it comes to restaurants, it's coffee cream. Allow me to explain. When you order any beverage that normally requires milk or cream, US restaurants almost. Never. give you the option of putting milk in a drink. They give you your coffee/tea, and they put out creamers. When you ask for milk, they say, "so you want a glass of milk then?" You say, "no, I would like milk for putting IN my coffee/tea". They say, "oh...uh...ok". Then begins the awkward problem solving. The best instance of this I have ever experienced was a waitress at an IHOP bringing me a small ramequin of milk. They were visibly awe struck at me dumping it in my tea. Bringing it back to this experience, this is the first time I said nothing, and suffered half and half cream in my tea. I have come to the conclusion that the small "creamers" with 2% milk simply do not exist in the US. I have yet to see them.** ANYway, back to the real review, I would definitely recommend this place for a nice breakfast anytime of day before 2pm. What a great place to find for breakfast. Looking for something local I am so happy that yelp was able to show me to their door. From the outside looking in this place was nothing special, but once i walked in the Big portions, Big flavors, and great service turned this meal into an outstanding experience. I was greeted, seated, and able to place my order quickly. On their recommendation, I tried the banana pancakes and let me say they are awesome and beat any I have had at home or another restaurant. Big and fluffy, sweet and saucy. I also got bacon, hash browns or home fries, and coffee. The bacon was perfectly cooked, a little crispy and just the right amount of fat and flex. The potatoes were tasty, but could have been browned a little more. Coffee was OK. The dining room and restrooms were clean and orderly.
