I've ordered online from this location a couple times and both times they've been accurate, quick, tasty, yet affordable. (More so a gripe with UberEats) The first time, I was able to pick options on UberEats to customize my order. Second time ordering, the app was a little more confusing. The menu on the App stated that the country fried steak comes with fries. Last time I ordered, I had it with homefries but this time I didn't see an option to swap it on the app. I also didn't see anything about gravy or options for the eggs second time around but again this is the more so an UberEats issue. I did see there was a $2.50 substitution option so I went with that and noted that I would like homefries instead of French fries. We are staying in the hotel across the street for my daughter's graduation, and after finding out that we had somewhere between a 20 and 45 minute wait at a major national chain, we decided to pop across the street and check out this amazing diner. It's almost like this place has 750 items on the menu, not quite, but there is something for everyone here. We shared around the table, all the various things that we ordered, including, Broasted Chicken, chicken, salad, croissant, patty melt, Coney, Mediterranean, green beans, Kafta, home fries, mashed potatoes, and gravy, and probably the best mac & cheese I've ever had. There was nothing at the table tonight that was not exceptional, and it is a lot of food so you are likely to have some wonderful leftovers. It has been decades since I have been into a classic American diner like this, and there are options for literally just about anyone. Have not stopped at Sam's Diner recently so hubs and I decided to breakfast there before shopping. Walking inside it was nice to see the festive decorations and we were greeted as soon as we entered the door. We ordered coffee and their advertised daily specials, hubs with bacon and mine with gyro meat. The food was very tasty. The special is served with 3 eggs and I was so full when I left. The home fries tasted home made and fresh. We will for sure be stoping in more to try the lunch specials since choices sound like Mediterranean style foods which we both enjoy. My wife and I found Sam's Diner after we walked out of the Maumee Bob Evans (we waited 20 minutes to get served and got nothing). We seated ourselves and were given menus right away, were served coffee (GREAT coffee, very smooth!), and within 15 minutes were eating our breakfast. The prices were a little higher than I'd expected but not out of line. The breakfast offerings were pretty standard: omelettes, biscuits and gravy, pancakes and various combos. I ordered a gyro omelette and my wife ordered two eggs over easy with home fries. The portions were more than enough for us and the quality of the food was very good--diner perfection. We both agreed: we had a very good breakfast. I noticed a dessert menu with baklava listed. Tempting, but we passed. Sam's is a small storefront diner with an entertainment decor--pictures of 80s rock bands and stills from Hollywood classics. Our waitress was prompt, attentive and very friendly. Tried to go to The Briarfield Cafe for breakfast but they had a 30 minute wait, so we went here instead. Wish we would have waited the 30 minutes or gone somewhere else. My hot sexy girlfriend and I stopped here on a road trip. Her dress was immediately complimented. We came in expecting a light breakfast plate and instead left after a feast. The food, the menu, and the prices, are good and honest. We tried the spinach pie and the country benedict, both excellent choices. Stopped in for Mother's Day breakfast with my family. We saw their sign over the weekend, and decided to go here since it was a family-owned restaurant and had lots of choices. Reminded me of some our favorite Coney islands in Michigan, but with more choices! Service was fast and friendly. Our waitress quickly greeted us and provided menus. Water glasses appeared quickly, followed by her asking what other drinks we might want. Coffee was served quickly, hot and refilled often. My decision was easy, after discovering they had corned beef hash that wasn't out of a can, with fresh-cut onions and green peppers. Again, food was served quickly! And the portions are huge! Potatoes in the hash have their skins on, which I liked. Note: the dish is served with a standard of three eggs. My breakfast companions had steak and eggs. Their steak was tender, well-seasoned, with little fat. When their steaks were served, our waitress asked if anyone wanted steak sauce or hot sauce. Nice not to have to ask! I glanced at their lunch and dinner menu, and noticed gyros, Reuben, and corned beef sandwiches. I was tempted to get a take:out order of their hummus with pita and vegetables. There's a lot more on their menu for dinner and lunch, but I was focused on breakfast. Overall, Sam's Diner has great service, yummy food, and good prices! Stopped at Gino's Pizza and Gyros for a gyro. Guy at the register said they don't have traditional gyros but pointed me to Sam's Diner. I've seen Sam's several times just never went in. I went in and the place was nicely decorated and staff was friendly right off the bat. Self seating, waitress came right over to take my drink order and leave a menu. Came back with my drink and took my order. Gyro add feta and fries. Before she brought my food out I heard the waitress say, put more fries he's a big guy. They brought my plate out with a decent portion of fries and gyro looked good with the right type of pita bread. She them brought out more fries that were hot and fresh. The gyro was the best I've had here in the Toledo area. I will be back before heading back to Texas. Waitresses were very nice! read more

I had not visited this restaurant for many years, but all my other haunts were full, so I thought I would give Sam's another try. I also like to support local small businesses and prefer them to chains that are often unresponsive to the needs of the customer. When I got there, the place was almost empty, but I hoped for the best, while digging into the menu. That was not a good sign however, because the prices were exceptionally higher than the other area venues I frequent. I thought that if the food was good however, the higher prices might be worth it. Unfortunately, they were not. Although the food was eatable, there was nothing to write home about. However, on a positive note, the owner was on the floor and friendly with his customers, and the man who cooked, and delivered my food, was more than attentive to my needs, in the absence of both of the servers. I sat in a booth that was broken, and there were others just like it, uncomfortable and in serious need of repair. It was easy to see that the profits, if any, were being wasted on an excess of mediocre employees, rather than putting them back into the business. Now I know for myself, why the parking lot was empty, and why like the others, I too, will not be going back! read more

Ohio people are funny. We were sitting there and a couple of middle-aged guys were sitting by themselves mindlessly stuffing food in their face and staring up at the wall behind me. When I turned to look to see for myself what all the fuss was about I realized that they were all watching Hannah Montana on the TV on the wall. Not sure what we were going to get when we walked in.....decor was probably pretty damn cool when Miami Vice was big. However what does that have to do with food. We've had breakfast there before and it was good but this was dinner and the steaks are much higher (steaks get it? I am so funny). Everything I have had here has been middle of the road at best. Their biscuits and gravy was barely above serviceable, but I have had worse. The meat loaf was, for lack of a better term... foamy... and I have no idea how you do that to meat loaf. Portions are large for the price. Much of their food tastes like it comes straight from a box (mashed potatoes), box (pie) or a can (gravy). Lack luster all the way around. I am coming back for the broasted chicken. Those are hard to find and it takes a lot to turn a broasted chicken bad. The servers were nice though. read more

It is your typical diner menu, but the consistency in food and great service I get everytime I walk through those doors puts this place on my top 5. The Lunch Specials are HUGE and only cost $6. (I think it's 6. Maybe 6.99) They have a breakfast special though that I have my entire office hooked on. You get 3 eggs, Homefries, Choice of Meat and Toast for $3.75! We all ordered this (carry-out) a couple weeks ago and people are still talking about how good it was. They are trying to convince me to make this a weekly event. "Sam's Friday Breakfast Extravaganza" Ha! Back on track - this place is great! The owners are great people, always walking out to check up on people. It's about as close to a Michigan Coney Island as I've seen in this area. The strip mall diner had loud signs proclaiming Buy 1 Dinner get 50% off the 2nd...and touting other specials. Inside, there is a mixture of booths (some elevated) and tables. It has a clean, retro feel, and we were nodded to take a seat wherever. After getting our drinks, the server gave us time to review the specials board and menu. My friends ordered omelettes (Greek and western - $7.95 each) and I got a breakfast sandwich with bacon ($4.50). The gyro meat was the star of my friend's breakfast, and that alone is worth going back for lunch some time. Mine was pretty standard but delicious. The bacon was crispy and egg was cheesy..served on rye bread. Basically, this spot offers tasty breakfast for a good price. I walked into this Diner looking for something to eat , it was around 8:30 p.m. when I walked in. The place was empty and I had it all to myself. I sat in one of the booth seats to prove to be very uncomfortable and outdated. I looked at the menu board on the back of the wall and saw that they had beef stroganoff as their daily special so decided to have some. My waitresses was a young lady they quickly took my order, and we're surved my food relatively fast. I began eating while surfing Facebook and noticed that I was being gazed at from the waitress. She also took out the vacuum cleaner started vacuum around me. I didn't realize what was going on till I noticed the time, and it was getting close to their closing time I was getting hinted to leave. The meal was unmemorable at best and I would never recommend this place to anybody. read more

We recently moved and are trying new restaurants in the area. We like to support locally owned, small businesses and prefer them over big chains. We tried Sam's after doing an online search. We got there and the place was about half full, so we figured that was a good sign. We seated ourselves and after three or four attempts, we decided that all of the booths had broken down seats that were very uncomfortable and in bad need of repair. The place is in serious need of a good updating and new seating. We ordered breakfast. The coffee was decent and breakfast came out in reasonable time. The bacon had an old greasy flavor as did the hashbrowns. My wife sent her bacon back and got the sausage links - which were inedible and looked to be cooked about a week back. The toast was thin, crispy and only half buttered. The eggs were okay. The bathroom was absolutely filthy and the decor was pitiful. The kitchen looked bad at a glance; I was scared to look too close. We won't be going back. read more

We eat here regularly when we visit Toledo, about once a month. Everything I've ever had, whether breakfast or lunch, has been outstanding. It mystifies and saddens me that people line up for the common chain breakfast place next door when something this good and local is available. Some of my favorite items are the Mexican breakfast burrito, the Greek omelet, and the Mediterranean style green beans. The omelettes and burritos are assembled with unusual care, with all the add-ins like tomato grilled to perfection before they're plopped into the eggs and the finished wraps griddled to perfection. There are always good old-fashioned home-cooking specials like beef stroganoff or liver and onions. They even grind their own coffee beans and the soups (chicken lemon rice!) are homemade. Prices and portion sizes are incredible. A local business like this is a real asset to Toledo; wish we had more like it in Cincinnati. read more

If you want a big bang for your buck... This is the place to be! I found Sam's Diner to be very good, serving huge portions, at a VERY reasonable price. I'm also on Atkins, and was able to customize my meal very easily. I'm a big fan of the double cheeseburger, no bun, with broccoli (it's salted pretty well with butter), and cottage cheese. I believe this cost me about 6 bucks, maybe? The service was pretty good too, lots of sassy waitresses in their 40s that really just want to get you in and get you out, but they will also make sure that you don't leave hungry or thirsty, which I am a big fan of. I will definitely be coming back here, next time I head out of the Hills. read more

Sam's is a classic American/Greek diner with consistently excellent service and decent food. They have daily specials for $6.99 which come with 2 sides--a good deal if you ask me. I would have given it a higher rating, but honestly, the food ranges from 2 stars to 4 stars, and you just have to figure out which are the great items and which items to avoid. For instance, the open-faced hot roast beef sandwich is just awful. I had one the other day (because I was giving it another shot after a bad experience 8 months ago), and it destroyed a 5-day streak of awesome lunches. It was so bad it tasted something like what I imagine "angry" tastes like, if "angry" did indeed have a taste. If you are in Maumee and want a decent open face roast beef, I'd suggest heading over to Tony Packo's in The Andersons instead. Having said that, Sam's gets a lot of food right too. They make great salads, some really fantastic soups, and the 12-ounce burgers are as good as burgers get. Also good are the grilled chicken sandwiches and most of the sides. The macaroni and cheese used to be epic, but I think they changed recipes 1 or 2 years ago, and now it is just okay. I feel good about recommending Sam's, with the caveat that if you don't like your food, give them a second chance... and be sure to order something different. My experience says there's a 75% probability that it will be good. read more

I've been a long time customer and enjoyed going there for weekend breakfast. It's decent diner food at decent diner prices. Well, it was. I just visited and the price of breakfast has been increased by about 100%. We used to eat breakfast for 2 and coffee for about $20. Now omelettes and most of the breakfast selections are around $15. I don't know anywhere else in Toledo where an omelette is $15. It's still diner food. pretty basic, good, no complaint but I can eat better at all of our other breakfast destinations for about half the price. I understand the price of food has gone up but I still doubt the total cost is more than a few dollars and doesn't justify a $5-10 increase in most of the meals. even if eggs were $1 ea, bread a $1 a slice, and potatos $1 ea they'd still make money for what they WERE charging. I like the diner, enjoyed the food, but I'll never be back. It's off the list. Sorry Sam. They are champaign budget for beer taste. read more
