Star Diner definitely has somewhat of a cult following. Once you dine at this place, you're hooked! We have only been here for breakfast, but each time we order different items and they all are very generous portions tasting yummy. Fast-paced diner to say the least! People who stop in a this location are usually return patrons and know the drill about getting in and getting out so the servers can turn tables to keep the flow of people coming in. The omelettes are made with 4 eggs - yes, you read that correctly, 4 eggs. Usually served with has browns and biscuits or toast. My omelette was done to perfection. I have been at other establishments that seem to overcook the omelette, especially with egg whites only. The ambiance at this location is nothing to write home about, but as I mentioned earlier in the post, people usually do not linger so the servers are able to turn tables more frequently. It's a win-win. One of my faves whenever we want to go out for breakfast. We will definitely be returning. read more

This place was giving me all the "old time" diner vibes I remember as a kid. They have a ground level and an upper seating area. Since we had our little one we went in the upper seating area so she could oversee everything. We ordered blueberry pancakes and chicken and waffles. The pancakes were amazing and the waffles and chicken were cooked perfectly. It came with homemade cream and WOW was that flavorful! I don't thinner I've ever had chick and waffles with homemade whipped cream and hot sauce but WOW I'll be trying that next time if they offer it! read more

Met a group of guys for breakfast before golf. The place is decent on the inside and clean. Service was average. Nothing bad and nothing that stood out. The reason for my three star was my food. I had the Eggs Benedict with home fries and a side of fresh fruit. Doesn't sound bad right? Wrong! The two Eggs Benedict were awful. The hollandaise sauce was gross. I would bet it was a pre-made sauce or a powdered sauce you add to it. The eggs were like a hard boiled eggs and the English muffin was dry. I only ate one it was so bad. The other one day there for at least thirty minutes and the sauce never hit the plate. It looked like magic shell ice cream sauce. I will say the home fries were delicious. Now the "side" of fruit? It was one strawberry and one bite size pice of melon. Are ya kidding me? That's barely a garnish. Would I go back? Maybe, but I'd stick to the greasy spoon type food. There are definitely better options in the immediate area for sure. Just my opinion. You give it a try and see what you think. read more

I've been going to star diner for some years. But now I can't recommend them anymore. Because they do not take pride in their cooking anymore. I bought 2 star specials hash browns with eggs and crispy hard bacon. What did I get instead. Potatoes hard. Not done all the way. First order bacon was crispy but the second one wasn't. So I sent it back. Do you know what these people did. They threw my bacon into the deep fryer like I would t be able to notice. Bacon was greasy as a jar of grease. And my potatoes look like they scraped the grill for them. Over all this was unacceptable. Called the restaurant back and they took it as o well. I wish I could reach out to the owner. Usually, a good place to go however not today. I ordered a lite omelet, nothing else. When my food came it also had potatoes and toast. I told our waitress I didn't order the potatoes or bread. Her response was that's the way it comes. My guest ordered pancakes which when they came the bottoms were burnt. The couple next to us ordered the same thing and made his waitress aware of his burnt pancakes. She quickly replaced it. When our waitress was made aware of the burnt pancakes it was like we made a personal attack against her. It's funny how waitresses in the same business can have such different customer skills. We come here often and never had a problem before. However, today we waited at the door waiting to be seated while two servers flirted with customers on a booth. After about five minutes, one of them yelled across the restaurant that we could sir where ever we wanted. They then went back to the flirting. This continued throughout our meal. Star Diner IV is a breakfast eat-in nook in Sylvania, Ohio that my close friends insist we visit when I'm in town. The question in my head swirling 'round and 'round is this one. "Are they there for the food or are they there for the service?" Why? Because my friends know the owners and every darned server in the place. They go there religiously after every Sunday service....so they are mega-patrons. Service when with my friends is prompt and with double-helpings of niceness. Food... I have had eggs and bacon, pancakes and also the granola/yogurt sundae. All is pretty standard fare for a breakfast-type dine-in restaurant. It's not a diner. There is no counter to sit at and eat breakfast. But it's slant is breakfast. I have to disagree with one YELP'r on the granola/yogurt sundae. The granola I was served just this past weekend (06/22) seemed to be pre-softened by soaking it in some sugary/honey liquid. I don't know why I fought my way through this heaping helping of fruit, yogurt and honey granola... to the bottom. One hour after eating the sundae I was having a sugar-induced reaction. Way, way too much sweetness for me so I won't be ordering that meal again. What'd I like? Star Diner IV serves "breakfast sliders" which are egg/bacon or egg/sausage on mini-biscuits. Oh yeah! These little dandees are terrific. And try the veggie omelet if you enjoy more veggies and less eggs with a meal. Star Diner IV seems to play favorites with those who show patronage. Attire aside, my family has been frequenting (and I mean FREQUENT) this Star Diner since it opened. We have never been disappointed. The portions are abundant, the food is tasty, the coffee is just right, and the prices are even better. I admit that I order the same thing most every time...but that's because it is soooo good. The atmosphere is family-friendly (we have 2 boys, ages 1 and 3) and they always feel at home. The service is quick and hospitable. Oh, one complaint...no Coca Cola products. read more

VERY good and reasonably priced and huge portions ...and be prepared for a wait to get a table on weekends because of the demand..... so you know it's good if people will wait 30 minutes plus just for breakfast! Their menu choices contain the core of your typical breakfast choices : eggs/pancakes/toast etc but many menu choices have interesting tweaks and flavorings. I hadn't done any research on this place when I ate here for the first time this morning - I'm new to Toledo, and my breakfast companion and I stopped in on a whim. On such a gorgeous morning, there was a decent wait for a table - no worries, we waited just outside and read the paper. The hostess/front seating person was a little harried, and it was coming across the way she was speaking to prospective diners, ourselves included - a little offputting and unduly harsh, I thought. But on to the food. We eventually got seated. I ordered the Star Special (I think that's what it was?) - eggs, bacon, hash browns, toast, coffee. My companion had granola pancakes. Both plates were huge and filling, and the food was comparable to any diner food - greasy and great after a late night. It took me a bit to realize that all the wait staff were stick thin females and that they were sort of, well, showing a little more skin than I would figure to see in a diner. It wasn't good or bad, just weird. I'm guessing most Toledoans know the schtick, but for this transplant, it just left me shaking my head. Our server was friendly and pleasant and kept our coffee and water filled. I don't know that I'd make it a point to come back to this location, but certainly didn't have any issues with the food or service. read more

Star Diner is a WONDERFUL PLACE!!! I wish I could give this place more stars but 5 is the max! Usually I am very picky about Diners. But this Diner met my expectations AND MORE!! The staff is VERY friendly, the atmosphere is very spacious and is very relaxing. The staff cleans the restaurant very nicely. Vacuuming, wiping off tables, and wiping off the counters and the lamp near the kitchen. The food comes out REALLY FAST! We literally sat down, gave the waitress our orders, got our drinks, waited less than 5 minutes, and then got our food. The food is SOO GOOD!! I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT IT!!! ITS EVEN BETTER THAN DENNYS!! ITS A WONDERFUL place to go for a lunch with friends and family. The booths are very comfy. Almost like a couch in your living room. I've been here a couple times and had no problems. However today, was the worst service I've ever had, or should I say NO service. My family and I waited for over an hour and watched everyone around us receive their food while we were left waiting, despite the fact that they arrived at least 10 to 15 minutes after we did. I went here to grab some breakfast, and I found myself within the first minute already hating the experience. The first waitress greeted me with an attitude that suggested that she just wanted me to get lost. She then proceeded to skip over me to help the group that came in behind me. Another waitress eventually helped me out and took my order, but still maintained an apathetic attitude similar to the first (seems to be the theme of the restaurant). I was hoping the food would make up for the horrible waitresses, but sadly I was mistaken. The Diner has a nice welcoming appearance. Though when seated we didn't receive menus. The table had some food stuck to it. The waitress came up to us a few minutes later to ask us if the other lady gave us menus and if we wanted something to drink. Our waitress gave us coffee. The cups were dirty. We asked for a few more minutes to look over the menu. It was more like 10 minuets before she returned. The food was sub par. Soggy. The eggs tasted like cinnamon. The potatoes/home fries were soggy. The pancakes dense and soggy. The bacon dripping with grease. Only thing good was the toast. And the bill was too high. We will not be returning. First, the service is usually pretty great here, so that's not the issue. The food used to be amazing at all their locations, but lately things have gotten a lot more greasy. Prices keep increasing, and not just by a few cents, but a couple dollars at a time. And now I've just been told that the customer loyalty card, $10 gift card for every 100 points, has been changed to 200 points. I've been to all of the locations, and they are all great places to eat. Fast, friendly service, great food, and big portions. I'm a picky person when it comes to spending money on food, I can find flaws in the so called best restaurants, but I have no bad things to report. While I don't live in Toledo, I do frequent Star Diner when I'm home visiting family. I love the yogurt sundae they have! It's yogurt, granola, raisins, bananas, and strawberries. It's delicious! They also have great breakfast items like omelets and hash browns. For lunch, I recommend the grilled cheese sandwich. While they have great food, they are only open for breakfast and lunch. Me and my boyfriend went just the two of us, and it was about a 15 minute wait. The waiting area is cramped and uncomfortable, you either have to be shoulder to shoulder with strangers or stand outside, everyone is in the way of the doors. It would be awkward to be seated close to the entrance due to everyone waiting and staring at you. We got a nice booth in the back, our waitress got our drinks pretty fast, she never told us her name and only got two straws for four beverages. It just feels like they stare at you to put your menu down, take your order and then you're forgotten until you appear to be done eating. The food was typical breakfast, nothing special. My boyfriends omelette barely had egg in it and wasn't up to par size wise compared to other restaurants. I got cheese on my potatoes, which was simply placed on top and burnt. I asked for my bacon to be cooked a certain way, which it wasn't. And they gave us random jams with our toast, didn't ask a preference. Also, the menu price and actual price of my meal was different. The orange juice was 3 dollars for a not big at all glass. All in all, we could of spent 30 dollars much better. The wait is not worth it, the food is typical, the wait staff isn't too great. Clean! Clean! Clean! This isn't your average slinky, grimy diner. Gross. Clean and well maintained. They make a great breakfast and is much higher quality compared to other diners in the area. The service, albeit, is half dressed, but is usually decent. We live nearby so we are regulars for breakfast. I recommend their English muffins and blackberry jam! I really use to enjoy the food especially the chicken soup it was amazing until I was treated so rudely by a cook on Navarre. I tried to explain how uncomfortable it was hearing the cook say take them there food so they can quit fucking looking over here which I thought was very rude I called to express my feelings on the way I was treated the owner promised to address the situation and to follow up with me and she never did anything. So I began going to the one on movies and central which is way further than my home so I'm makeing a 30 min trip instead of a 5 min trip to only get rude service their as well I asked for a soup to be removed from my bill after ordering a large only to receive a small this also happened two weeks prior so once the waitress Heather S. Took the soup back the very rude female cook says that's bullshit there full of shit...I was outraged and so was my friend because I spend 40$ every trip and tip and I recommend people there well not anymore they're rude which makes me believe that's how the establishment is ran and it's sad I'll never give them another dime ever it's upsetting read more
