Stopped by here on a Sunday afternoon to try their fries and array of unique sauces. The place was pretty small but you can easily grab your food and find a spot to eat outside. The fries are super crispy, perfectly salted, and positively addicting. They were so delicious that we ended up getting a second order even though we were full! With the fries, we tried: 1. Truffle Ketchup - must have 2. Chiptle Mayo - good, but overshadowed by other sauces 3. Avo-Goddess - extremely herby, was not a fan 4. Sweet Chili - my favorite sauce other than the truffle ketchup 5. Cheddar Ale - super thick and hearty, delicious! 6. Wow! I never expected this place to be as good as it was! I opted the vegetarian route and man, you'd never know it was vegetarian while eating it based on the heartiness, flavor, and overall meal experience. You can try to use their sauce to placate the saltiness but it cost an extra 75 cents per sauce. Actually not even the sauce can temper the checkered flavor. It's pretty hard to find good poutine in Mass so Saus is like a godsend for me. Orders are always accurate and it's great mix-matching the different toppings.. not to mention that their fries themselves are delicious. This location is also so much more accessible than the Boston location if you live anywhere north of the city, and Bow Market is a neat place to be. I usually order a regular poutine or add kimchi to it, which adds a nice contrast in taste and texture to the whole dish. I haven't tried any of the dogs or sandwiches but I'm content with what I've had--add a beer and I'll be satisfied for the weekend. read more

Very happy Saus opened a veggie-friendly branch! We went here for an event, so the small restaurant was super full. The layout definitely isn't too great for crowds and lines - you had people waiting at the counter while other people were pushing past trying to fill their water cups, while the water station was in conveniently located right next to the few "bar" seats. I got the BBQ burger while my partner got the beyond sausage, ordered bunless. Our food was prepped quickly, though our ordered sauce was sadly forgotten. Not only is the food great, the service is spectacular too. Best veggie burger hands down. I am not a vegetarian and I would eat this burger over a meat one any day! It was crispy and the slaw was incredible and well balanced. It was our first time trying the veggie burger and Bob wanted to make sure we were taken care of even though it was towards the end of the night. This place is located in BOW market so let's start there. BOW market is definitely the "IT" spot if you want something fun to do in the evening with friends. I went with a friend on a Monday evening and probably due to Boston Marathon it wasn't that busy. They have fire pits outside that you can sit at for free and we had one lit for us as we ordered food at Saus. The people at Saus are friendly and food is made quickly! It's a unique spot as they serve only vegan/vegetarian options where they have many items that are traditionally made of meat that they've taken the vegetarian spin on. We ordered a regular poutine with a side of bbq pulled jackfruit. If you like Poutine you'll definitely love this and it is a lot so definitely worth the price and is great for splitting with friends cause otherwise it's a meal on its own. The bbq pulled jackfruit unfortunately was a no for me, it was a bit too over spiced. However we did order it on the side - maybe if you add it directly to the poutine it will balance out. I'm just done with these jokers. We've been there multiple times and they have been closed, even though their posted hours say otherwise. You can't order online, they don't do food delivery service, and worst of all they don't communicate with their customers anywhere. There's no phone number to call, only email. They have a website and social media presence -- well use it to communicate with your customers if you are going to close early! It's a well known fact that the companionable Trixie threatens bloody murder if she is not presented with generous heaps of protein at every meal, so getting her to try a vegetarian menu is always challenging. However after wolfing down the chili at Saus, she pronounced it "f***ing substantial" and went on to devour a nutty cilantro bowl, which I suspect she enjoyed due to a number of diamond-hard spicy peanuts hidden among the fried shallots that served to sharpen her molars. For my part, I was pleasantly surprised at what the $9 burger delivered in terms of taste, appearance, and sheer gustatory delight. I suspect the custom blended sauce is what gives this unpretentious sandwich its memorable kick, but let's not underestimate the narcotic power of a starch rush resulting from the fresh Central Bakery bun. Possibly just the bun alone could knock you on your ass (but in a pleasant way). The dining atmosphere is crowded but expressive. What with curving counter tops, porthole shaped mirrors and wavy blue tiles, the decor is reminiscent of the first class pool area of the Queen Mary. Of course, no combination of Trixie and Somerville is practicable without some ill-defined conflict. While visiting the Bow Market shops, her annoyance level rose when two different proprietors used the term "my jam" in casual conversation with her (e.g. "Vintage is my jam"). And later, she stormed into the Market's open-to-any-sexual-identification restrooms loudly demanding all others (of any sex) leave her alone to complete her business, an order to which all within earshot happily complied. read more

Recently I went on a quest to find excellent french fries. I was making my hubby a birthday dinner which included fries. I made a small list of places to check out. I went to Tasty Burger first, where the fries were pretty darn good. I decided to give Saus a try next. Although I was willing to venture further, I stopped at Saus. The fries are excellent! They are thin-ish without being shoestring-y. There is a nice ratio of gentle crispiness on the outside to softness on the inside. I like that some but not all of the potato skin is left on. And, my favorite, is that there is plenty of salt on top of the fries. No need to add more. Yum! I was sold. There were however a few things I didn't like about Saus: Overall, I don't get Saus's schtick: While it seems like there is a focus on healthy eating (or maybe it's just vegetarian eating), if this is the case, then why all the salt on the fries? Why not let the customer add their own? (Don't get me wrong, I LOVE salt on my fries, but just wondering.) Furthermore, the sauces they offer for the fries seem to be fat-based. The garlic and chipolte sauces were very good, but I wouldn't call them healthy. Also, IMO, their homemade ketchup is kind of disgusting. It had a really really weird taste to me. Why not just offer Heinz's ketchup. Heinz Organic if you prefer. The place itself also made me a little uncomfortable. Maybe it's just me though. I LOVE the fries, and the staff was super nice. But, there is just a bit of a holier-than-thou vibe going on. I wanted the fries "to go" and when I asked for a bag they kind of rolled their eyes. When I asked for ketchup they pushed their homemade sauces. When I asked for a Coke, they said they didn't have soda. I'll definitely go back. The fries are really good. You walk in and the window to order is right when you walk in so you might have to ask if folks are in line or waiting. Good new veg eats in the city. The BBQ burger is excellent - uses the standard impossible burger, but the addition of shallots, slaw and BBQ sauce give it some extra oomph. Also, at $11.50, it might be the cheapest impossible burger you can get in the city. Loaded chili sausage dog was decent but not that filling, no comparison to the burger. Decent bun and hooked up toppings, but the dog itself was kind of small. As with the original location, the fries are great. All the sauces were excellent, and the poutine is super satisfying. Mushroom Miso is a decent combo. Personally I'd love to try the poutine made with something a bit different, maybe mushroom + rosemary +impossible veg sausage? but the Miso will def do for now. Looking forward to the crispy tofu, which is on the menu for the future but still in the works. I am not kidding you when I say I am a poutine fanatic. I LOVE poutine. It is my favorite food; therefore, I am a harsh critic of poutine. My first time trying poutine was in good 'ol Canada and no poutine that I've tried in the U.S. has trumped authentic Canadian poutine. Unfortunately, the same goes for Saus-- I wouldn't call the poutine authentic (it is vegetarian after all), BUT it wins a lot of bonus points for its creativity in the variety od toppings and sauces offered. I ordered the regular sized poutine with no extra sauce or topping and it was still very good on its own. The mushroom gravy (or maybe it's the house secret saus idk) that the poutine came with had a bit of pepperiness? sort of spice to it, which was very addicting. Cheese curds were soft and melty, and not the terrible kind of chewy that I've had in some restaurants (not in Boston) that sold fries with old mozarella balls or some other kind of cheese and calling it "poutine." Shame on them. I forgot what sauce came with the fresh cut fries, but it had a sort of dill, herb-y, ranch-y taste to it. It was quite refreshing and very good. A nice contrast to the spicy poutine. I really wanted to give this place 5 stars but I just couldn't. The ordering process was awkward - we ordered our drinks (beer and rose) and they were the last items given to us from our order. It would've been nice to sip on those while we waited the 10+ min for our basic and very bland salads (for which they did not provide lids in order to pour the dressing in and Shake the salad to evenly distribute). Also I should add- After our salads and fries were placed on the tray ready to go, we had to remind them what drinks we ordered....and had to continue to wait for those.....unacceptable. Also, we ordered two salads because we were told they were "spicy".....and they couldn't have been more opposite. They were so bland I wish I had ordered something else entirely. Also, for a restaurant called "saus" we were given one mediocre dip with our French fries but luckily ketchup was free!!!! It doesn't make sense. Will not be returning.
