Honestly extremely disappointed in Sapporo. No worker was wearing a mask when I came in today around 2:30. With COVID and all, every single worker should be wearing a mask ESPECIALLY if they are making food. We've been to Sapporo quite a few times. The food is pretty good, depending on what you order obviously. We have not had their Teppanyaki but rather ordered from their menu each time. The sushi rolls were good and well prepared. The Japanese curry was a pleasant find; it's the first place I have found that serves curry like my mother used to make. The curry is good but in my opinion they do not give you enough to adequately cover the rice. At home I would put twice as much curry on top of a serving of rice. The main reasons for the lower score have to do with the ambience and service. We have been a few times for lunch and if the place isn't busy, it's as if you were visiting someone's house for lunch. They always seat us in the corner booth near the kitchen and restrooms, kind of tucked away from the main restaurant. All of the staff are standing around in front of the sushi bar which is right by our table. So kind of awkward and uncomfortable having them stand by you while you eat. The music they play on the speakers is totally inappropriate for a Japanese restaurant. Every time we have gone it sounds like a techno club in there. Maybe some nice background instrumental music would be nice. Uh, hello. How about some oriental instrumental music? Lastly, I know it was a mistake but a server needs to pay a little more attention when refilling drinks or reaching for something on a table. The girl in charge of refilling drinks walked up and reached across the table to get my tea glass. While doing so she dragged her sleeve across my wife's California roll. And not a slight brush of the sleeve either, I'm talking full on wipe across the top of the rolls. We saw it but she never noticed. We didn't want to embarrass her so we didn't say anything. We just placed the plate on the edge of the table in hopes that maybe the waitress would ask if something was wrong with it since the plate was still untouched. She never did. If I could give this restaurant negative stars I would. I simply went in there to pick up a DoorDash order for a customer who paid for their order from this restaurant and when I arrived, the order wasn't ready yet which I have no issue with. I've waited plenty of times for other orders that's just what comes with the job, the issue I had was I went to go grab a few mints out of the mint bowl that's sitting on the counter, and the manager guy lashed out on me in front of customers who were dying in which I think is very unprofessional. Secondly, there's no reason for a restaurant to not allow someone to grab some mints whether it was from an online order or through a third-party order the store is getting paid for the food regardless by a customer for someone to act like that towards someone for grabbing mints I definitely wouldn't want to be eating there in person. We ordered delivery from Sapporo recently for the first time and were happy with everything we tried (loved the Yuzu Yellowtail!), but just wish that our food would have arrived a little bit colder (some of the sashimi was a bit too warm for our taste even though it was delivered on a cold night - especially the tuna, which started to separate and get stringy). I think trying it in-person at the restaurant would likely alleviate this issue, but with Covid, that's not always a viable option so hopefully next time we order the food will be packaged a little better. First time here and will be the last time. The food was eh. We really liked the 7 spice calamari and the sashimi was cut thick which was cool. I thought I ordered escolar sashimi but it looked more like a escolar carpaccio. The waiter said that was how they served it. It looked like crap. And the waiter was pretty crappy too. When they first opened, quality was good. Seems like everything has gone downhill. The 3 hand rolls took way too long to make... they came after we ordered the check after a long wait. My menu was sticky and had a funky smell. They also don't do hibachi in the dining area anymore. Currently, the quality of food is mediocre. I didn't think I would find a decent Japanese restaurant out in Cypress. I would think we would have to drive into Houston. But lo and behold we did find a good Japanese restaurant close by to my parents place. Not only did we order from the lunch menu but we also ordered from the dinner menu (we wanted appetizers, too!) So my personal review appears to upset an owner or someone that keeps getting my yelp review deleted based on my "personal experience". My personal experience; per yelps terms of agreement, is based on my displeasure of driving 45 minutes to the restaurant after reading a five star review on how good the food and Service was. I reported that as "false" since the doors where locked, there where no tables and a sign that said "opening soon". How can you get a 5 star review if you cant even sit down and they are not serving food yet? Huh Update: I finally went and gave it a shot since is right around the corner. Ambiance is nice, wait staff was friendly, food.. uhggg - no flavor. Had a hand roll and two sushi rolls. They had fresh fish however where very bland and lacked the melding flavors i experience at many other sushi restaurants. A little over priced but not exorbitantly. There are too many sushi restaurants to choose from just to settle on this one. Ill try again in the future after they have been open awhile longer. read more

This place is new and it's great. We always find ourselves heading towards town for sushi but I think we found our place close to home. They have real wasabi if you ask. We asked to clean the chair from the last guests. But the food was very bland. overpriced food. For the amount I can go to Benihana or Azuma with the same price or lower with better quality food. Tried a piece of the Yellowtail - very good. Also, tried the Spicy Miso Ramen - not so good. Actually, it was the worst I have ever eaten. The broth tastes like dishwashing water. They bring along a dish of spicy seasonings and paste to increase the spiciness, but it did not help with the flavor at all. The pork in the dish was tender and delicious so kudos there. My server came and asked how everything was and I specifically informed her that I was not a fan of the Ramen. She asked why and I told her the broth lacked flavor and wasn't very good. She apologized and moved on to the next table. 10 minutes later she came back and asked if I wanted a to-go box. Uh, no! Clearly, I am not enjoying this. At no point did she ask if I wanted to try something different or order anything else. Fantastic customer service! About 25 minutes after receiving the Ramen, I flagged down a guy who appeared to be the Manager and asked for the check. Of course he noticed my FULL bowl of Ramen and asked if I enjoyed everything. Again, uh, no! I also told him I was not a fan of the Ramen and did not enjoy it. Moments later, he sent my server over with the check. I paid $21.87 for my meal, including $12.95 for the Ramen that I did not eat. I would love to try them again, but service trumps food for me and in this case I do not believe I was given good service by any means. The sushi at Sapporo is quite tasty,good sized, well priced. They also have some really great lunch specials. The hibachi chefs are quite amusing, and have good control over their flat top grill. Very bad experience. We walked in on Friday night and we were immediately seated at the hibachi table. We continued sitting there for an hour having been served our app, soup, and salad - still waiting on the chef. I asked a server how much longer she thought it may be and she said they only had two chefs that night but it should be soon. I'm a huge fam of Ichebon, but living out in Cypress have missed it. My wife and I recently dined here, going for the hibachi service. I always get the same thing - filet beef and chicken, with fried rice, veggies, etc. I don't mind paying a price for top-quality food, but I must say my low rating is mostly based on the food. The chef was just not that skilled at cooking the portions at the right rate, and with the right seasonings. We weren't really there for the show, which he realized, and he let us enjoy our conversation with the other father/son duo at the table. The fried rice was just ok, nothing special, the beef was frankly quite good, the vegetables were not that great, and came late in the lineup and had a very high broccoli content - not the right mixture. I honestly don't know how he cooked the chicken so poorly - it was way over done, virtually crispy, and drenched in "butter". The appetizers that you are required to get - a salad served in a row-boat (bad idea, looked dumb, plastic boat looked old, and the salad wasn't that good) an "onion soup" that is embarrassing to serve (barely any taste to the "broth" a shriveled mushroom, and 5 tiny sticks of fried onions out of a can in the bottom of the bowl), and then two shrimp per person that were once again severely over-cooked on the grill. I had two cocktails, my wife had tea, our bill was over $100.00. My stomach was sick for the next 5 hours after getting home. I really hoped this would be the score for us - but I'm not sure I'm going back. Revisit the recipes, maybe even go try Ichebons and taste how you differ, train your chefs how to cook properly. There is the "show", and then there is demonstrating fine cooking skills. The food has to be delicious and cooked perfectly for customers to pay those prices. read more
