Tl;dr Mediocre fish and overly salty pork. Great concept with the unlimited banchan bar, but I personally thought the meal was just ok. We went on a Saturday night during a rainstorm. As always in Allston, parking was tough to find. We arrived around 5:30 PM before peak hours and got seated immediately, though there was already a wait building up for larger parties. By the time we left, there was a huge line out the door even with the rainstorm. We came specifically to try the unlimited banchan bar. As expected, each person is required to order a main dish to get access to it. We ordered the belt fish, mackerel, and spicy pork. Both fish dishes were pretty disappointing, both very dry and completely lacked flavor. After one small bite, we were pretty underwhelmed. The spicy pork leaned on the salty side, to the point where you needed a ton of rice just to cut through it, which also took away from the AYCE banchan experience. As for the banchan bar itself, I didn't particularly care for most of the side dishes, except for the japchae, which was very chewy and balanced on saltiness. While the price point for all-you-can-eat banchan is reasonable, the mediocre food overall just doesn't justify a return visit

Can't go anywhere else for Korean food in Boston anymore! I had been to their sister restaurant Jin Jee recently so I wasn't as shocked by how good the food was this time since I was already expecting this level of quality. The side dishes here are plentiful, high quality, and unlimited (self serve after the first round). This is the highlight of the dining experience. Overall the meal felt whole and hearty. The beef radish soup was a standout. You technically could get full off all the banchan but the restaurant does require each guest to order an entree. It's still amazing value for the quantity and quality. Oh and there are complimentary Melona bars as the end! My friend said the menu had changed from the last time she went so it seems they do rotate their menu. We went on a weeknight and it was still decently busy so do get on the waitlist asap.

Highly recommend the normal grilled mackerel over the Atka mackerel. It's perfectly cooked - fatty, flavorful, juicy, and not too crazy with seasoning so the fish shines through. The banchan buffet is so much fun too and has more options that the banchan they serve to your table. The banchan selection was quite unique and impressive, and it included a delicious soup reminiscent of Shin Ramen (this is a compliment, we love Shin Ramen). Don't forget to get a Melona from the buffet on your way out! My party of 3 had to wait around 15 minutes but luckily they use Yelp Waitlist so it's easy to check out spot in line. Service was good and the interior is very spacious and clean.

I've been here a couple times and love the food here so much! They allow you to get soup, side dishes, and rice from the buffet counter, including ice cream. You have to order a main dish and I love my spicy pork every single time. Service is amazing! Long wait but well worth it!

We were excited to try Sanbada after seeing the mackerel sets and the unlimited banchan! Luckily the wait on a Saturday night wasn't too bad and while the waitlist can get long, it moves quickly. Note: you can only join the Yelp waitlist after you arrive (there's a kiosk to sign up). We got the mackerel, atka mackerel, and spicy pork sets to try and among the mains, the mackerel and atka mackerel were our favs. Both fishes are nicely grilled and very tender. If you're not a fan of the fishy taste of regular mackerel, atka mackerel is a good alternative that tastes more like halibut with a milder flavor. And of course, I have to talk about the banchan. They do start you off with an initial selection of banchan which includes kimchi, japche, kimchi and beef stew and spicy tofu. There are additional banchan options when you visit the self-serve bar and I was really impressed by the variety! Some of my favorites were the spicy fried lotus root, stir fried eggplant and sweet potato mash. There were some that I had never seen before like black sesame lotus root. Some of the vegetables were a little salty and we found ourselves eating a good amount of rice (unlimited of course). Overall super fun spot with a nice variety of side dishes to try! It's definitely worth a try.

Sanbada is what Boston has been missing for the longest time. Comfort Korean food that tastes like it was made by your grandma coupled with the most beautiful minimalist interior. It is truly a great bang for your buck. The main dishes are all excellent - I think the bulgogi patties are a solid, richer choice but if you want something milder in flavor but still tastes clean, the mackerel and belt fish are great options. Their banchan is the star of the show! I can't get enough of their fried eggplant, radish kimchi, and black sesame lotus root. You definitely have to try all of them because they only give you a select few to start off with, but there are so many more when you go to get them yourselves. Service is excellent too. And free Melona ice cream after! Have I convinced you to go yet?

I love this place! One of the few places where I can go back over and over again and not get sick of the food. Everything is so good, and you get unlimited refill of banchan, soup, rice, and Meloni popsicles! But I mostly love the presentation! Everybody has to order an entree set, which come with banchan, soup, rice, and barley tea. The way they bring it out and place it on the table is so cute and perfect that you won't want to ruin it! There are not many options for entrees, but what they have is delicious. They have a couple fish options, spicy pork, beef bulgogi, and tofu bibimbap. My favorites were the Atka mackerel (which melts in your mouth) and the spicy pork (which I can't stop eating even though I usually don't eat spicy). After you finish what they bring out, you can go and get more of everything (except for the entree) until you are full. My favorite banchan is the sesame lotus root, fried spicy lotus root, and pureed pumpkin. They will alternate different soups and banchan from day to day judging from the few times I've gone. The service was friendly and everyone was very nice. Note that they won't come take your dishes away as you eat, like a regular buffet, so don't go all out. It doesn't seem like those small dishes are a lot of food, but it hits the taste buds in all the right ways and you get satisfied and full very quickly. For under $30 per person, it's a huge and satisfying meal. You can't take banchan home though if you can't finish, which makes sense. It gets very busy at night or weekends, so plan for weekday visits if possible. Prices are cheaper anyway for weekday lunch, not to mention parking would be easier right in the heart of Allston.

I tried their mackerel and it tangy, and a bit oily (in a good way) I would recommend the mackerel and bulgogi patties. I wish I tried their shareable pork belly but it was all sold out. Their small dishes were good. I loved the specifically the fried egg plant small dish.

I loved my time at Sanbada. I came here a couple weeks ago because I kept hearing really good reviews from my friends. This concept is also pretty different from the other Korean restaurants in the Boston area which was exciting. I came on the weekend in the afternoon and it was pretty busy. I had to out myself on the waitlist and waited about 20 minutes. The restaurant itself is really bright and spacious. There were a lot of tables inside and I was able to get seated and the staff was really nice and explained all the side dishes and the different dishes. Our table got an assortment of dishes and my favorite was the mackerel. I also loved all the different side dishes and the best part was that there was a section where you can refill your own side dishes and get ice cream at the end.

Amazing banchan that is self service! I came both times at saturday at 11am and was seated promptly. They dont do reservations and are walk in only. They suggest each person get a main set and they come with a side of rice. There is also sundubus next to the banchan as well. I've tried all the mains and my favorites are the mackeral and the bulgogi patty. The black sesame lotus and crispy sweet potato are my favorite banchan plates.

This place is known for unlimited side dishes. Each person must order a main meal, and it already comes with a bunch of side dishes that they bring out for you. Atka Mackeral - You get half of the fish, it's fried with bones. It tastes good. Spicy pork - this tastes really good and is not that spicy. There are TONS of scallions in this dish as filler, though. Side dishes - There are TONS of side dishes that comes with your set meals. The waiter/waitresses were very friendly to explain everything and offer you to go get refills at the refill station. There are ice cream desserts, chilled pickled veggies, soup, and a couple of hot (room temp) foods. The japchae was really good and the day we went, it was a side dish option. There was also a beef soup that was really good, especially with rice. Their rice cooker looks like a space ship...push the round button hard to get it opened! :) I gave this place 4 stars as the food was good, and the unlimited side dish option was a great value with decent offerings. The staff was friendly to seat us and explain things but no one acknowledged we were leaving as we walked out. This place also has NO air conditioning. If its hot outside, don't go here. Their bathrooms are in the basement and the walk there is super slippery, even with new nikes on. I liked how each table had a pull out tray with eating utensils, napkins and whatnot. The tea was chilled and refreshing. Would say I'm looking forward to coming back to try their other main meal options (only a few left to choose from)...but the lack of air conditioning really took away from our experience dining in. Parking is a big challenge on the street...but not impossible if you are patient. I would recommend folks to try this place on a cooler day.

Amazing banchan, huge variety! I love the buffet bar and being able to select the ones I want. The price is reasonable considering the unlimited banchan and the yummy main dish. The barley tea went well with all the food. The interior is also very nice, everything looks super clean.

I've been here twice since its opening and been very impressed both times! Sanbada offers an incredible deal with high quality food, great service, and unique flavors. The lunch prices are really great: for a little over $20, you get a main protein and unlimited banchan, with an additional banchan bar of 12+ options. The soups, stews, salads, and rice are also unlimited, and you can finish off the meal with a refreshing Melona bar (strawberry, banana, melon) as well! The first time, my party ordered a mackerel set and an Akta mackerel set because we were curious to taste the difference, and we both vastly preferred the Akta mackerel because of its softer, more tender flavor that was less oily. I think shelling out an extra dollar for it is absolutely worth it! The mackerel was cooked very well, and the assortment of banchan was full of hits. Our favorites were the black sesame lotus root, fried lotus root and eggplant, pumpkin salad, and radish kimchi. The peppery beef and daikon soup was also very enjoyable, and I think they switch up their soups depending on ingredients because I tried a chicken and potato soup the second time around. During my second trip, I had the vegetable bibimbap, which was surprisingly the best bibimbap I've ever had: something about their gochujang sauce was so incredible! The barley tea is also very enjoyable and especially refreshing when we got seated next to the window the first time, which was a bit hot and sunny. I also tried the raw marinated shrimp, which was good quality, but I wouldn't order it again on account of how stellar everything else was (plenty of other items to get you full). I will definitely be back!

The restaurant focuses mostly on soba or udon noodle dishes with a good selection between hot and cold options. It's not going to be the best udon or soba you've ever had. HOWEVER, I tried the cold ikura & uni cold soba and LOVED it. It's seasonal, so I tried that one out and was extremely surprised about how much I enjoyed the bowl. Not too much soup and the uni didn't completely obliterate when I stirred it up. They do use American wasabi though, and I found it superfluous to the dish and wished it was served on the side. But regardless, despite not having some extremely high quality noodles, the flavor and experience of the bowl itself was super pleasant. I ended up coming back the very next day because I wanted to try their clam soba. The clam soba only comes hot, which is a bit unfortunately because I actually think a cold clam soba with some lemon or yuzu would be phenomenol. I've been seeing recipes for it online so I've been wanting to try it, but their clam soba is a lot more standard and hot. They had a very good amount of clams in it, but I generally like their cold soba better. Still good, but didn't give me that feeling of needing to come back the very next day like I did with the ikura-uni combo. Overall, I'd still come back when I'm in downtown!

The beef bulgogi bowl was really underwhelming. Firstly, it was very little food. We were promised vegetables, but there were only a few scarce onions & zucchini pieces mixed in. It was also dry. It was devoid of moisture & sauce, so we added some from the fridge at home. The side of soup was a joke. It filled only about 2/3 of the container & looked so sad, we wondered if it was the sauce that we we so desperately needed. Nope, just a meager amount of watered down miso soup.
