Been going to Sal's since I moved to Franklin in 2014. One of my only regrets moving away from the square, but fortunately for me I can still get their pizza delivered via grub hub over off Carothers. Plan on about 45 min to an hour for delivery but it's worth it. Great food, great atmosphere. read more

Just moved here from Brooklyn and was very relieved to have found Sal's! Nothing worse than delivery chains like Papa Johns and Dominos so we gave Sal's a try. Fresh, delicious, not too greasy and perfectly seasoned! Perfectly foldable with a tasty crust. Even better than most of our NYC delivery spots. Only negative is that we wanted delivery and they said it was busy and would be 1.5 hours.... So we had to pick it up! Granted it was a Saturday. We are rarely down in Franklin but just happened to be down there for Porchfest and craving garlic bread so I hopped on Yelp to find some good garlic bread in the area and Sal's popped up and the reviews all looked great! It was a Saturday night so we were hoping it wouldn't be too busy and it wasn't; we walked right in and got a table. We ordered the cheese garlic bread and the chicken parmesan to split and that comes with a side salad. Before we got the food a guy walked in with a guitar and started setting up. We groaned to each other, we are getting pretty sick of going out to eat and getting bombarded with loud, subpar music but we were very wrong to groan at this guy...so very wrong. This wasn't the typical singer songwriter that we see everywhere, this was an older gentleman that played older songs, like by Gershwin or older instrumental Italian songs and had such a soothing quality to his voice. It added such a great ambiance that I saw us both visibly relax and slow down our eating and we just sat there enjoying this man's talent. This guy playing music in the corner added so much to our experience, I would be all for music being in every music if it were more like this experience! The cheese garlic bread was very good, the mozzarella on top were big thick slices, which was awesome, you can never put too much cheese on anything for me! The side salad was a little bland..but it is just a side salad so I can't judge too harshly on that...maybe throw a little cheese in there though because again, you can never have too much cheese. The chicken parmesan was good as well, it is a perfect amount to split and the noodles were cooked properly, which is something that doesn't happen in a lot of places lately. The service was really good and the food came out pretty quickly. Overall, this evening was pretty spectacular. I definitely wish we lived closer to this little gem. read more

Just moved here 4 days ago to Franklin and found Sals by accident. I made a wrong turn which turned out to be a correct turn!! It is the best pizza outside of NY/NJ. It was so authentic and the sauce was perfect( a little spicier would have been ok too) , crust was better then my Italian family used to make. Loved it so much brought my husband back today for lunch. This will definitely be our " go to pizza place". Thanks Bob!! read more

Since 1/4 of a star wasn't an option, I'm forced to upgrade them to 1 star. I will admit I understand the 2 hr wait time on a Friday night in a pandemic is completely understandable, but after waiting 2 hrs for delivery, I called their 1950's phone system and finally got through to check on my order and was told it just left (9 min away)... 45 min later this cold doughy blob of a mess showed up with the receipt and sauce cups imbedded in the cheese along with some cold soggy wings that tasted like they were made the day before. It was also missing 1/3 of my order. Maybe that part of my order will get here by tomorrow for me to have dinner then. I think I'll take the gamble on gas station sushi next time over this trash in a box. read more

Placed an order with Sals for two people. Called and placed and order for a large pizza on their gluten free crust with a large caprese salad. Both items were $31 with a $3 delivery charge included in the price. Once we received the delivery we noticed that the pizza was about 10 inches and that salad only consisted for 4 small pieces of cheese and tomato. This did not seem right to either of us. We called Sals back and was then informed that their gluten free crust only came in a 10 inch side, and that their large caprese salad did in fact only come with the 4 slices of cheese/tomato. Had we had been informed by Sals regarding that a 10 inch was the only size offered for a gluten free crust we would have never ordered it - as that is a small pizza. Not only that, but no plates or silverware came with the order - we wouldnt mind but they knew we were staying in a hotel room. Although the gentleman on the phone was polite there was no solution offered to my complaint. read more

This was our first and last time to this place. We should have kept going to Gina's, our original plan. We told them this was our first experience. I ordered a slice of sausage and a Greek salad for my wife. The ticket time for a slice was long so I asked if he was making a fresh pizza and was told he was. Approximately 40 minutes later I was handed a slice of cheese from the rack sprinkled with pre made sausage and you could see the cheese was added also because it was a different color like the type on a frozen pizza. When I asked if it was made fresh I was told it was."IT WAS NOT!" I would recommend if you see this place keep driving. The lady was clueless on who Sal actually is, when I asked she didn't know. The staff missed the mark on communication with me and each other. My wife's Greek salad came only when we asked her for it 25 minutes later. The chicken was not fresh, it was cold and just came out of the fridge. Disappointed is a nice review. The tables were dirty so we sat at he bar. read more

Is it the best pizza I've ever had? No. But it's pretty damn good and ordering here was an overall great experience. Had both red and white sauce pizzas- both were solid. The delivery guy didn't bring our free mozzarella sticks on the first trip. I felt bad making him come back just for those, but he did. I wish I could have given them a 4.5 stars, but they deserved for me to round up. The delivery was fast...and the second delivery was as well. Driver was exceedingly nice on this 30 degree night. Called to report an incorrect order and was treated rudely and was hang up on. Seemed like since the order was through grubhub it wasn't their fault for getting the food wrong when that app has nothing to do with making the food itself. When you get an order wrong, don't just say we're closed and hang up on a person, especially as it was right at 9pm and we just picked up our order, so they could have a least apologized and listened. Not only was the order wrong but no part of it was as advertised. Italian sub was made with turkey instead of ham and none of the fixings they said it had otherwise. Salami is some form of gross boloney and one piece of pepperoni with no cheese nor condiments. All they cared about was confirming there was some form of meat on their vs how much, nor what else was wrong. Very poor quality for what they did include and meager one slice of tomato. Been having issues repeatedly here of late with portions getting smaller too. So close to home I thought I'd give it another chance and try something else, but you can't ignore ownership that doesn't care. Just take the feedback and help correct it, even if you can't same day. And, even if someone orders through a third party app. Super disappointing when you can't support a local business like you'd like to. read more

There slice is pretty bland. Really suspicious of the other 5 star reviews??? It is authentic east coast thin crust but the sauce has no zest. Cheese seemed really cheap mozzarella and the sausage looked like chunks of dog food(spiced up chunks of bad meat). I've spent many of days on the east coast eating authentic Italian pizza. I finally tried Sal's after living in the are for a couple years. This is great pizza, simply put. It isn't fancy or "fusion" style, just real deal pizza. I travel for a living so I've had it all and I wish I'd checked them out earlier instead of overspending at the boutique spots on main all this time. I went simple for my daughter's slumber party; XL cheese and XL white w/garlic. I picked it up after only 20 minutes at 6pm on a Friday night and they were very friendly. The pies were `perfectly cooked with no middle moisture or burn spots. Only $39, thank you. The best NY Style pizza in the Nashville area is at Sal's Family Pizza. But, Sal's is more than just pizza. They make their lasagna from scratch and is amazing. My wife and I own a tour company and had planned on bringing a bus full of high school students here in the spring based on a suggestion by the Nashville CVB. Since we were in the area, we decided to stop by and see if the reviews were valid. I am originally from NY and my wife is from Philly so we wanted to try both the subs and pizza. We ordered a meatball and a sausage sub San when we went to order a slice of pizza as advertised in the menu, we were told they don't sell slices after 2pm so we ordered a small pie. The waitress was very nice and brought the food out as it was ready...now the verdict and reason for the two stars: 1. The pizza was good, hot and flavorful. Coming from a NYer, this is high praise. 2. The meatball sub was fair. Nothing extraordinary but still a good value. 3. The sausage was HORRIBLE! I had one bite and wondered if I had bitten into commercial cleaning fluid. My wife saw my face and asked if something was wrong and I explained that it tasted funny. She took a small bite and immediately used a napkin as she could not swallow it. After a short while, our waitress came by and I explained about the sausage and how it was in edible and that I did not want it. She apologized but left the uneaten sandwich there. She then brought the check with all the items charged. I asked if this was a mistake, but she replied that the owner did not think there is anything wrong with the sausage. Then another waiter came by to tell me that there is nothing wrong with the sausage. It wasn't until I was told twice that I was wrong and they knew better, that I was offered something in it's place. Sorry...too little, too late...I was already insulted and you had the opportunity to fix this twice. RESULTS: I paid my bill in full and even tipped my waitress (my company was covering the tab and I was not looking for a freebie) BUT...not only will I or my family go back there, I am going to bring my group of 55 elsewhere and I will not be bringing any other group there when visiting the Nashville area again.
