Honestly, there are NOT many good pizza option in Franklin TN. Seriously. Most of the time I think the pizza we make at home is better than anything we can get out, especially with the rising dough (and NOT the good kind of dough). This spot has easily become a new favorite. My only gripe is the to-go parking situation. It's awful. That's not their fault though.... We always get the Margherita pizza add pepperoni and a caesar salad. Literally every single experience we devour it all. The salad always looks good, never any browning lettuce, and the pizza flavors are fresh and you can absolutely tell they are quality ingredients. For now, this is NUMBER ONE on our pizza list, for sure! No doubt about it. This place was great for our large group of soccer players who were sad that the games got cancelled and were hungry. Plus who needed space to run around. This location is ideal as it has indoor and covered outdoor seating. It is also located next to an open field where kids were playing kickball and being kids. Parking is on the street, which was fine but I could see it getting difficult as this area gets busy. The staff was great! So accommodating to our large group that all came at once. Now the food. The salad with the pears was delicious! I would have just eaten that but we came for pizza. The margarita pizza was super yummy but not big enough for 3 adults. I winded up ordering just a cheese pizza too which was plenty big. The beers on tap were just fine for us too. We will definitely revisit when we are back in this town next year. read more

Ordered 3 pizzas -Plain cheese; -Special of month with provolone, Gorgonzola, & mozzarella plusarugula & prosciutto & poached pears -Garden with broccoli pistou, sun dried tomatoes, artichoke hearts, pecorino romano, balsamic glaze And an order of hickory smoked wings. Working backwards up the list: wings were excellent! Smoky, moist, crispy, tender. Pizzas were great: 2 had very crispy crusts and awesome flavors. (Although the garden was a bit oily for my taste.) Small cheese had slightly thicker crust - still good. Washed it all down with fresh draft brews. (6 on tap) Note: you actually have two options in this establishment. The pizza joint which is very casual but is limited to pizza and a salad or two. The other is the Coal Town Public House which has a fancier menu (no pizza) and a much larger selection of draft brews. (The small hiccup in service: We were sitting inside - only one of two tables occupied- but our order sat there waiting for us as well ... they forgot to call our name when it was ready! This place has definitely got a great location. In the center of Westhaven it overlooks the green area and has a nice outside seating area. They do carry some draft beer choices and a fairly standard select of pizza. In my opinion however it's a pretty pricey stop for a pizza and beer (which used to be the standard economy meal of every college student). It's apparently aiming more upscale. For these prices, it seems like the ample staff on hand could have brought the pie to the outside table. Got the potato pizza, not quite what we expected based on the description. There were 8 small chunks of super greasy potato, a handful of crispy bacon on top but the majority was under the cheese and soft/soggy. Dough wasn't crispy but was dense and had the flavor and texture of an English muffin. Flavor was bland even if you got a bite with all toppings because both the potato and the sauce had no depth of flavor. I don't think I'd come back, given the price. Loved it! We ordered food to go, Hawaiian Pizza, Pepperoni rolls and chicken tenders. All were great, we loved the sauces that came with the chicken! Wow. I'm excited to report about good gluten free pizza that is amazing! However, I must say that the ordering process was confusing-if putting together a custom pizza. The pizza was way larger than most gluten free-so even though they are pretty expensive, it made for several meals for me. I ordered the white pizza minus prosciutto add mushrooms. They charged for mushrooms even though we eliminated prosciutto. Makes a lot of sense. They said they don't replace items. So my husband asked for it on the side. Staff isn't friendly. 8 people working. Or just standing there. Talking and playing on their phones. Trash can was overflowing.... tables were dirty. No line no reason one of the teeny boppers couldn't wipe a table and empty the trash. Oh and it took 4 attempts to say 10 numbers (our phone number, for the silly at the register to get it right for them to text us our food was ready) That's a Great offering if it's to go. Like: - Place smells burnt - (this was due to a piece of cardboard left on the oven chimney - (issue has been resolved) - Pizza is too thin - (the recipe has been changed and there is much more crust to enjoy - (issue has been resolved) - No phone ordering service - (this happened in the very beginning - (issue has been resolved) This has got to be one of the most happening places in Franklin and really look forward to using the back area which is almost completely open. Not worth it, unless you have no other choice and are starving. We ordered a little of everything and nothing was great. The wing were mostly skin and fat. Super greasy and hardly any meat. The Cesar salad was mostly bread crumbs. I don't think there was any cheese. The dressing was watered down and not enough for the larger size portion. The pizzas, we got the larger size cheese, it was crust was ok but pizza was super salty. Also ordered a smaller size bbq chicken. Might have had one tiny piece of chicken per slice --might! The middle was soggy probably because of the small personal size portion. Lastly, we ordered the Italian sandwich. For $16 we were expecting a portion like when you go into a mom and pop deli and they load it with meat. Nope. Not at all. I think my husband could have gone to subway for a better sandwich. I will give them 4 stars as it relates to pizza and chicken fingers. So if that is the fare you are looking for, give it a try. The price-point it reasonable and the flavors do not disappoint. The only recommendation would be for your counter staff to have a dining in or takeout approach to how they deliver your food. All three taste like they were made by a high school teenager taking their first cooking class, who has been told their entire life everything they produced was pure gold. Very little flavor, the BBQ chicken was just chunks of meat with no seasoning, cheese, on dough I could not locate any sort of sauce I suspect BBQ was suppose to be there but wasn't. The supreme well to be honest every fast food pizza joint does it better and at a cheaper price. Great place to go to dinner next to the lake with plenty of space for the kids, etc. The chicken tenders are really good. Good Beers on tap! The bad: the pizza here is average at best. It's ok, not great. Such a bummer. Why not make an amazing pie and be the best at what you do? Very disappointing. The service is awful. Tons of people standing around. Trash cans always full. And everything is brought to you in to-go containers? We wanted to eat there and not have giant pizza boxes all over the table. What?! I asked to not use the boxes and they said they "had to". Margherita pizzas have thick crusts but the actual pizza is so thin that it's hard as a rock after baking. Service needs improvement as well. Employees seem to be young and addicted to their phones. They just stack up orders on the side without making an effort to get them to you. Everything is served in to go containers even when dining in. Not a fan of plastic tableware when dining in. Coal Town Pizza is a great addition to the Westhaven community. Today was only their second day of being open for business. We tried their double pepperoni pizza and a Caesar salad. The pizza was excellent - a thin, crunchy crust with a flavorful sauce, and lots of pepperoni. The best part was that the pepperoni was not greasy -- no grease dripping from the slices. The Caesar salad was very good, also. It was a mixture of romaine and kale. The salad dressing was flavorful -- you could get a slight taste of anchovies in the dressing, which was delicious. It could have used a little more Parmesan cheese in the dressing. Coal Town Pizza is a winner! read more
