Finally got around to try the famous Salted Butter Co. Everything was 10/10 with no complaints. The lattes were some of the best coffee I've ever had. Pastries, croissants, and cookies were all delicious. The service was quick and efficient. The only down side would be the parking! I waited visiting this place out, so I'm pleased to report that on a Thursday at 9:30 am, there was basically no line. Good thing because this place is tiny and only has a couple of benches inside to sit. The servers were super efficient and polite, and all of the baked goods I ordered were top notch. I was especially impressed by the ham and cheese croissant and chocolate cookie as the croissant was soft and flaky, and the cookie was perfectly chewy. Small shop that has a decent and good looking selection of pastries and even some savories options but it seems like the quality revolves around timing and attention to detail. Lemme explain The drinks are decent but nothing I would talk about. I'd tried Salted Butter before when a friend brought me an almond croissant and a chocolate chip cookie. Both left a lasting impression, so I was excited to finally visit in person while I was in the Pasadena area. When we arrived, there was a small line out the door which we waited about 15 minutes before ordering. A friend had mentioned that you can walk in directly to order drinks only, but we decided to wait and place our entire order at once. The line first moves through the pastry display before you order drinks and pay at the register. We ordered seven pastries and one coffee which came out to about $53 including tax. While none of the new items we tried were particularly memorable, everything was enjoyable. The almond croissant and chewy chocolate chip cookie remained my favorites and were easily the standout items of the visit. The Iced Good Vanilla Bean Coffee was also yummy - flavorful without being overly sweet. One downside was the flow of the space. Drink pickups happen directly in front of the entrance, so customers often have to cut through those waiting in line for pastries. Another great bakery in Pasadena, I'm so jealous. Prior to this one there is Artisanal Goods by Car Bakery & Badash Bakes. This one is more similar to Artisanal Goods by Car. Same line you got to wait in like Car, somewhat similar offerings and price point. I had a raspberry almond croissant, and Earl grey morning bun. Both hit the spot, I'd say both had that distinct taste you're looking for of your on the hunt for unique pastries like me. I also got a coffee, the salted maple coffee. Coffee wise it's good, but if you come to Pasadena for great coffee shops you might want to stick with that. I think I prefer the coffee at Car more. Salted Butter is a small family-owned business founded by Haruna & Johnny Romo. Haruna started baking her signature treats in her tiny kitchen and has now expanded to a small storefront. For the record, there are very few things I will stand in line for and food is not one of them, especially in the heat or the rain. Every time I drive by Salted Butter there is a line - rain or shine. I finally got lucky! I passed by around 1:15 pm and there was no one outside so I pulled into the parking lot. There were a few people ahead of me inside, and about 30 seconds later there was a line out the door. However, there were plenty of pastries in the case and more freshly out of the oven. A nice young man was taking pastry orders. If you want a beverage, you request it at the register when you pay. They use La Colombe coffee, which is like. The staff were all friendly and worked well together. I can imagine they must be tired at the end of the day. I heard the man tell someone that the Cinnamon Bun is their signature item, so I ordered it. It's different than a standard cinnamon bun because it is made from croissant dough and not a rich dough. The inner layers were light, flaky, & buttery. The cream cheese icing was thin and not overly sweet and the cinnamon filing wasn't overbearing. It had a good flavor & consistency and I like that it wasn't heavy. I also liked the crunchy ends and could taste the quality. I have had this bakery on my saved list for months and finally had the chance to go. I have gone either early in the morning or an off time like around 1:30ish. They still have a pretty good selection at those times. The taste wasn't like a cinnamon roll, but more like a pastry with the frosting outshining the pastry. The cookie was good and the right balance of flavors. The maple latte wasn't bad, but didn't taste the maple much. I know that I came in the afternoon and I was expecting a pretty empty display case, but I am glad it wasn't. The staff was very friendly. There aren't any seats really, but three benches in the perimeter of the common area. There are some parking spots available in the plaza. Salted Butter absolutely lives up to the hype, but you're going to work a little for it. Parking is rough and there will most definitely be a line. Do not let that scare you off though. Once you are inside, things move pretty quickly, even if it feels a bit chaotic and packed. The most important part is the pastries. Everything we tried was solid, but a couple really stood out. The croissant cinnamon roll was my favorite by far. It is not your traditional cinnamon roll. It is flakier, lighter, and just a really fun, elevated take on it. The Earl Grey morning bun was another standout, perfectly fragrant without being overpowering. We also ordered the apple fritter, brown butter almond croissant, and blueberry cream cheese danish.
