Crispy Brussels Sprouts
Helen S.

A timeless bistro with lovely patio seating and staff, but the kitchen seems to be an afterthought. We picked this place for its proximity to Downtown Boulder and brunch menu. It's fairly busy on weekends, so would recommend a reservation in advance if you're set on going. Parking is tough to find nearby during peak hours. Street parking was maxed out so we wound up at a nearby covered garage. We chose a cozy patio table surrounded by fresh flowers in planters, and the real butterflies flitting around said flora were enough to make me ignore the off-kilter wrought-iron table initially, which shook whenever one of us leaned on it. Our waitress was very friendly and perky as well so first vibe checks were good. They had unfortunately run out of clean champagne flutes, so our mimosas came in glass goblets instead. Still tasty - as you can't really go wrong with juice and bubbly. The Crispy Brussels Sprouts were pretty good, if quite salty. However the Benedicts completely flopped. Our eggs were completely hard-boiled, with no ooey-poached goodness at all to coat the biscuits below. I love potatoes, but the accompanying "Lyonnaise" variety were so dry and starchy I could barely swallow them. It was a sad time having our trajectory take such a downhill turn from what we had anticipated to be a delectable treat after a morning hike, but would not come back for a meal unless it was purely liquid.

Came in on a Thursday and grabbed a couple of open seats at the bar, it filled up very quickly around us. Evan serving the bar was very helpful and attentive, offering a few suggestions on the menu. We started with the focaccia and Brussels sprouts, the bread could have been warmer but the Brussels were crispy and tangy. Then, we had the pear and fig salad, so refreshing and actually split a single serving between us, and the tavern burger which was super juicy. Ask for a side of mustard aioli with the burger and use it for dipping, so good! We finished with the tiramisu, and it was a standout! One of the best tiramisu I have had outside of Italy. Overall, an intimate atmosphere that was warm and welcoming with great bar service!

The food was fantastic. Our service was great on a holiday (Valentine's Day) with no reservation. Our server Suzy was fantastic!!!

Great location (Pearl Street Mall, good service, good food. My friend and I enjoyed dinner at SALT on a Friday night; we made sure to get a reservation ahead of time. The tomato soup was creamy and tasty and the bolognese was enough for us to split. We sat downstairs for dinner this time but I've sat upstairs previously . The upstairs is noisier and crowded, downstairs is more relaxed and quieter. I also like that they offer outdoor seating.

Shrimp, Risotto, mushrooms, and scallops!

Our server Justin was incredible! He was so informative, friendly, and described everything on the menu so well! We would go back over and over again! All thanks to Justin!

Venison, polenta, asparagus

Went to Salt while in Boulder over the past week. I hadn't been there in 9 years, so I was excited for the food. I ordered the Venison, polenta, and asparagus. The venison was lackluster. The polenta was awful. overly salted, very greasy, not tasty at all. The asparagus was limp, overcooked, greasy, and too salty. The venison was $45; the sides were $10 each. not worth it at all. I was definitely disappointed.

Mushroomless mushroom goat cheese frittata

My husband and I haven't been here for awhile so we decided to go for a Sunday brunch date. We made a reservation and were greeted by a friendly hostess who took us straight to a seat in the sun which I requested. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful as we decided on what to order and she brought my husband coffee while we made final decisions. We decided on dessert right away: a glazed walnut sticky bun, Yes! When she returned we ordered our main dishes: the mushroom goat cheese frittata and the chilaquiles. The chilaquiles were absolutely amazing!! Savory with caramelized onions to mix in some sweetness and the chips were so crunchy and not too salty. Very flavorful and satisfying dish! The mushroom and goat cheese frittata didn't have a lot of flavor. While the pancetta, egg and cheese were good, the dish fell flat as it was slightly over cooked and the most disappointing thing was that there wasn't one mushroom in the entire thing. The mushrooms would have given some fluff and flavor. A bit disappointed in this one. We were excited for our glazed walnut sticky bun and when it arrived there were no walnuts (glazed or otherwise) so we dug into it thinking maybe they were snuggly rolled inside. However, after several bites it was clear that the glazed walnuts had run away with the mushrooms from the frittata! We didn't feel right saying anything after the roll was half eaten and it was tasty, don't get me wrong! We finished the whole roll. However, when two of the items your order are missing main ingredients listed in the menu description there is something going wrong in the kitchen. All would have been well if we would have been notified when ordering that they were out of mushrooms and the sticky bun would just be a cinnamon roll with vanilla glaze on top (which I didn't even see in their menu. Great staff and beautiful place. The dish that was served as described was amazing! I would like to say I'd give it another try.

The server was quick to take my order even though it was pretty busy in there (was rush weekend I think for the university?). I had the tin man HH cocktail because my server said it would be the most floral (has elderflower in it) and I quite liked it! Was very refreshing, not too strong. Aside notes: the bathrooms were quite clean. Parking was a little chaotic, some is paid parking and some is free 2 hour. There are only a couple spots right in front, I had to park a few blocks down but it was in 2hr free park by another small business that was closed for the day. I didn't have any issues there. Overall thought this was a fun little bar in Boulder with good happy hour drinks, I would def come back :)

The whole space feels warm and relaxed in a way that makes you want to stay longer than planned. I'd especially recommend it for small groups or date nights because it manages to feel social without getting overwhelmingly loud. I think the best thing about River and Woods is the interior and exterior decoration. It is very clear that a lot of thought and time was put into the atmosphere here. From the cute door knocker to the bathroom wallpaper, the theme is well-executed. The food was a bit disappointing. The blue oyster mushroom appetizer was extremely salty. I thought it was just me but the rest of the table agreed as well. My trout was well-cooked and I enjoyed it quite a bit. The chicken was also salty although cooked well. I did not try the burger but I was told it was salty as well. The prices of all the items were quite high for what I thought was presented. Service was good and thankfully our waters were filled frequently for how much water we were drinking due to the high salt content.

The restaurant itself is beautiful and the beautiful bar is the centerpiece of this gorgeous restaurant. The atmosphere is a lovely combination of elegance and dining comfort. The tuna was delicious and the broth was heavenly. We ordered pork taco and a beef taco, both so tasty. For our entree, we had the snapper in tomato broth. I'm still thinking about it! As soon as you know you're going to Boulder, book a reservation. Even is all you can get is an 8:45, take it! This was without a doubt the best dining experience we enjoyed in Boulder. I'm quite the foodie and cook for multiple friend groups so I was skeptical. When we walked in on a Tuesday evening near closing time, I noticed the Bib Gourmand plaque on the wall, mention of Michelin star sister restaurant, Alma and at least 6 parties still seated. Let's talk about the food now. Our party of 3 ordered alot which included: -camote (that ricotta and fennel pairing-oh my!), -caesar salad (huge portion and the BEST I've ever had; even better than any tableside caesar) -yellowtail carpaccio (many renditions of this in LA, but this made me want to eat the whole plate and slurp the sauce!) -tostada (incredible. I wanted more) -carne asada taco (divine cut of meat, hands down the best I've had), --- -pork taco (my husband ordered it and said it was the best he's had) -red snapper (I've had this all over Baja Mexico w very fond memories, but THIS one was a tip the bowl kind of dish) cooked to perfection w abeautiful flavors in the sauce. - mushroom entree. (ordered by our friend, and had a few bites. This dish was way larger than I expected! it looked like a garden box of shrooms. Flavors were delightful. We finished every crumb on our plate. I was extremely surprised with every dish we had, as I found myself swooning into another dimension of pleasure and slight jealousy with every bite. I haven't been WOWED by Mexican flavors at all (in LA or OC ), but only since my trip to Tulúm. I can taste the intention of each flavor combination, freshness of the corn, I really can go on and on. I can still remember being impressed beyond belief, and saying out loud, "THIS is what I want Mexican food to taste like". Prices were so reasonable. Entree portions were hefty and fullfilling. Staff was friendly and knowledgable about the menu and brand story. Hoping and wishing that one day they'll open up a location? chef's kiss to this place. Will try Alma and others when back in CO.

Booked this for a monday evening for a business dinner. i really wanted to like this restaurant…read moreand there were several things that i did like, but the food was just OK from my perspective. Ambience - this isn't the best place for a business dinner. very quiet/romantic and i felt like our group was out of place there, but no one looked at us oddly. It felt more like we might have been interfering with their romantic vibe as we were talking business. The restaurant and staff present a very inviting atmosphere. Food, this is where i was disappointed. the Bread at the beginning was very good/ with salted butter. I ordered the salted radish appetizer and it honestly just felt like salted radishes on top of a puree that i didn't really care for. So would put this as a 5/10 in terms of rating. I got the rabbit, which was recommended as being the best entree option. i have never had rabbit previously and wanted to try it. I thought it was OK, but not very memorable. It did taste like dark meat chicken. however the chick peas they were served with were underdone (crunchy in texture) and simply not that good. Our dessert, blueberry Tres Leches, was the best of the 3. My dining companions had a variety of things (striped bass, meatballs), but no one was raving about their food. Service was quite nice. would give this more like a 3.5 out of 5, as the atmosphere and service were good. Sadly won't be returning.

However, the kitchen fails to deliver quality or good tasting meals, despite the well-sourced food. The menu is prix fixe. 2 appetizers and an entree, or 1 appetizer, entree and dessert. The salmon tartare was salty, too salty. The kefta balls were over salted as well. The onion tarte shell was so hard it could barely be chipped away to eat. When we mentioned this to our server, the response was we get more complaints about the tarte than any other appetizer. I was surprised to see that the appetizers were all served at the same time, so by the time, I ate the cold salmon, the warm kefta, besides being salty was also cool - might have been more appealing if warmer. The rabbit entree was dry, overcooked and tasteless. The accompanying garbanzo beans were undercooked, crunchy and too salty. The food highlight was the family style vegetables. Beets, onions, asparagus were alright; the sugar snap peas which still had strings were not as good. The dessert were disappointing as the rest of the meal. The macaron was brick hard, so hard, we had to ask for a fork and knife to chip hunks off of it. Tasteless. After we departed, my dinner companion said she wished we had sent the dessert back, it was so hard and inedible that we left most of it. Bramble & Hare has a few things going for it: Service was spot on, attentive, helpful and friendly. The wine list is very good. Ambience is pleasant and the dining room is quiet. I really wanted to like Bramble & Hare as the farm to table concept appeals, but with the poor food preparation, this is a tough restaurant to like.
