I went to the salon for a an eye brow wax, manicure, and pedicure and Ana did a magnificent job with my gel manicure and excellent pedicure. First I absolutely loved the setting, it was clean, quiet, spa like, it smelled so inviting and the environment was so calm with the soothing music. I felt very pampered. Ana is a professional, my nails looked amazing as did my feet and she helped me choose just the right color. I also loved how my eyebrows looked. She always does such an amazing job. CAVEAT EMPTOR!!!!I would give this salon 0 stars if possible. I was a long standing customer, very disappointed by the last visit- which will be my last visit. They sneak in services to fleece you, that you don't want, nor are good for you. My 16 year old daughter had a trim, I mentioned she has a sensitive scalp. They put a toner on her hair, without authorisation, which irritated her scalp causing hair damage and loss, turned her ends orange. When she asked Kate why her hair was orange she did not respond, just chopped the ends off, leaving her with a middle aged Karen style and brassy color. She was distraught. They slipped in a $50 charge for the toner! I had color and a cut, also with Kate. I had said I didn't want a toner but was told I had to have it- for their gain of $50, not mine. I questioned my color and was effectively gaslighted by Kate. My daughter and I went to Violet salon on Wisconsin Avenue to have our hair redone. Violet Salon told us they have corrected many a hair- cut and Colour from Salon L'eau. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND VIOLET SALON. They do not insist on toner and do a great job with cut and colour. read more

TL;DR: I had a very bad experience, but they did try to make up for it a little...? I made an appointment for color after talking with LoAnn. She made me feel very comfortable about what I wanted, cotton candy pastel pink, and scheduled me for the next day. The next day I had an appointment with Ziya. He didn't seem to understand what I was asking for and laughed at/dismissed the picture I showed him (I had showed it to LoAnn the day before). He suggested doing pink highlights so it would look "natural" and I had to say to him "I don't want it to look natural, I want it to be pink!" It was as if he had never heard of this style, which is actually quite popular and considered fashion-forward in my age range. Luckily LoAnn was in the room and came over and explained to him what she and I had discussed. He still seemed ambivalent about it, and I started to feel very uncomfortable. I have to note that this was the FIRST time I had ever had my naturally curly red hair colored so I had no idea how to ask for what I wanted except by showing a picture and no idea what to expect in terms of how the appointment would go. LoAnn had told me to leave 2 to 2.5 hours for the appointment, but I ended up being there for 4 hours (I got a parking ticket, had to cancel dinner plans) without anyone telling me at any point how long any part of the process would take, or even what was happening throughout the process. I got the impression that Ziya didn't know what he was doing. In the end, my hair was a blue/purple/pink mix. I was shocked and when Ziya asked if I liked it/was happy, I said, "Well, it's blue..." and his reply was that it would wash out. Not what I wanted to hear when I was about to pay $300 for color! I know that bright color fades, but that's not an acceptable solution for this problem. Another problem relates to the fact that I have naturally curly hair that I love. After dying, Ziya blew my hair out without even asking me. He was about to do it again after my protein treatment before I interjected and asked him to diffuse it. He put foam and gel in my hair but ran it through and diffused the hair such that it did nothing to preserve (much less enhance) my curls. This is probably less about him and more about most salons treating curly hair as a problem and considering straight hair the norm, but it really bothered me and I had to go home and restyle my hair myself. On the bright side-- 1) Now that I'm used to the color (and felt less pissed about the parking ticket/missing my dinner), I like it. 2) They gave me an olaplex protein treatment for free the next week-- probably to make up for the fact that they processed my hair so much (bleach, light pink, purple foils, fushia all over?). The main reason I'm writing this review is because I want them to know that my experience would have been much better if: 1) The stylist had recognized that this was my first color experience and guided me through it by explaining what was happening throughout the process 2) He had taken my vision for my hair seriously and discussed with me what he would recommend in terms of color if he thought another tone would be more flattering 3) I had been told how long the appointment would really take or at least informed that it was going to take longer than planned. I won't be going back and definitely would not recommend Ziya. I would trust LoAnn more, but there are too many other good salons in DC for me to return here. read more

BEWARE OF THE LIVING SOCIAL DEAL FRAUD... I purchased a Living Social Deal for a Keratin Blowout Treatment, I first made my appt right before easter. The day before my appt, the receptionist called to cancel saying Carrie haD decided to go out of town. I rescheduled for another day and when I showed up, Carrie had once again cancelled because of a "family emergency". Because I was traveling out of town the next day I begged another stylist to take me. Luckly someone was able to fit me in 2 hrs. later, however when it was time to check out the receptionist stated that only 1 stylist was taking the Living Social Deal, and that I now had to pay full price. WHAT? According to Living Social, there can be no restrictions on there deals unless noted on the certificate. I called the next day to discuss the issue with the Salon Manager, LoAnn who was rude, incompetent, and lacked the ablity or knowledge to assist me with this matter. She told me that she had a busy day, and that I should be grateful that she took the time out to speak with me... I paid $100 for the Living Social Deal plus $200 for the treatment and rather than refunding me, she offered a free manicure as if that was sufficient compensation. The keratin treament turned out ok, but I will NEVER patronize this salon again. OVER PRICED AND UNDER DELIVERED... read more

Three of my friends see LoAnn and one recently told me, "LoAnn will CHANGE YOUR LIFE." So. I thought I needed to at least give this place a try. She did a fantastic job. The salon itself is comfortable, spacious, and tasteful. LoAnn was very professional and took time to ask me about my styling routine, look at my face shape, and give me customized service. She was efficient, yet meticulous. I was thrilled too because I've always wanted shorter layers around my face and my last stylist said I couldn't pull it off due to my baby hairs. However, LoAnn went right in and started snipping. My hair is no longer a "little girl" blunt cut (I previously had really subtle layers only at the end). LoAnn gave me "sexy layers" and it looks much more polished and sophisticated. It's too early to tell whether or not this cut CHANGED MY LIFE, but I'll definitely be back to see LoAnn! I have tried Tori twice. The first time she was pretty insistent about wanting to dye my hair red (it's a medium brunette). I was not interested, and from then on she seemed disappointed and kept saying I "could look a lot better than I did.". However the simple brunette with soft highlights color as well as the cut she eventually did were actually very good. The second time I told her I wanted the same color - she seemed to have no recollection and had taken no notes, and I got a totally different color that only lasted about two weeks before it seemed to fade. Thank God fate brought LoAnn to me one day... I had just moved to DC from Barcelona back in 2006 when bangs or "fringe" was just becoming popular here in the States. I had an amazing haircut from Spain and I was nervous about having anyone in DC cut my hair, since the trend hadn't really arrived there yet. After cutting my own fringe a few times, I finally decided I'd rather pay someone to do it, so I went to a stylist in Reston recommended by a friend of mine. The fringe she cut was not symmetrical, and my attention to detail is a bit higher than most people's, so even when I pointed it out to them, then didn't notice. Well I was managing a MAC store in DC at the time and LoAnn walked in as a customer one day. We started discussing my hair and right away she pointed out the flaw, "that side is more of a 90 degree angle than that side." THANK YOU!! Ok someone finally noticed!! I told her that when I showed the flaw to everyone else, they didn't notice, and she said that's because she is a stylist. Well thank God. Then she said she worked in Georgetown. Well double thank God, that's closer to my apartment! I have continued to go to LoAnn for the past four years... I love LoAnn, because she can handle anything I throw at her. Different styles, colors, she can handle it all. I usually ask for a different style each time I come in and I am always happy with what I get. She is traveling a lot to Paris and New York to get updated on the latest techniques. She also has special training in dry cutting from the number one dry cutting stylist in the world, because she asked him for it. Her hard work has paid in dividends. I really found a diamond in the rough here in DC. I have recommended LoAnn to many of my friends and each of them has looked great and gone to her again. I also notice that each of the other stylists in her salon do great work, as well. Everyone always leaves looking great. The front desk staff is professional, knowledgeable, helpful in choosing products to suit my needs. Also, I love the overall feel of the salon, as it is situated in a cozy rowhouse on the historic P Street in Georgetown. I gave this salon 5 stars, because as Yelp says, this is as good as it gets!! I have been a loyal client of stylist/owner, Lo-Ann Lai, for years. She recently became owner of this salon which used to be called Jean-Luc Salon (you can see more reviews there). If you want a great experience and are willing to pay for it, then this is your salon. Lo-Ann is smart, sweet, beautiful and best of all she listens and delivers. I love her because she is HONEST... when I go in there with crazy ideas she tells me "NO" without hesitation. She really gives you the best cut/color/style for YOU... All that said, she is not cheap. However, I personally believe in paying good money for something I have to wear everyday whether I like it or not (hair). I have long wavy hair that in the past has been unmanageable with certain haircuts. With LoAnn's cuts I can shower, let my hair air dry and it looks great! She's the BEST! Where do I begin? I am new to the area and had a very bad experience at another salon close by. Thank goodness I found Kate! I'm surprised by some of the previous reviews here...I've been going to Ziya for about 2 years and I wouldn't trust anyone else with my hair. He's definitely not the gossipy type, but has certainly warmed up as I've gotten to know him. He listens to me about exactly what I want and I always walk out feeling like a goddess. I have a lot of long hair that air dries completely straight, so I am definitely not a high maintenance lady. But, I'm very particular about my cut as I don't even bother to blow dry, let alone style my hair. I adore Ziya and have recommended him without hesitation to my friends and family. So far, I've converted a cousin and an aunt, and they've both been very happy with his coloring, although I can't personally speak to that. Definitely recommend! read more

I met LoAnn, the salon owner, at the gym about 6 months ago. Within a minute of her meeting me, she gave me a "hair diagnosis," and I thought to myself, "that's really impressive." I knew the salon was a little pricier than I was used to, but I decided to give it a try to see if the service was worth the extra money. And let me tell you, it is! I've had haircut anxiety since I was 12, and for the first time, I was able to relax. I had every confidence LoAnn would give me a great cut and color. I left the salon feeling like a billion bucks, and I received more compliments after that one visit than I had previously combined. Notes: 1. LoAnn only accepts cash. This caught be off guard my first visit, so I had to make a run to the ATM. 2. LoAnn usually has 2-3 clients there at the same time. She's great at juggling everyone, and you never feel neglected, but don't expect to be in-an-out fast. My usual visit lasts 1.5-2.0 hours. 3. Traffic and parking can be a little rough in Georgetown, so allow extra time before your appointment. read more

Ziya cut my hair last week. I didn't even particularly want a haircut but my Gilt City voucher was set to expire so I just went in. I decided to cut about 6 inches off just for the heck of it. I brought in a foto of Nine d'Urso as inspiration. For reference, I have thick, wavy hair that makes me stand out cuz I neglect it most of the time so it looks messy. It was one of the quickest haircuts of my life (approx. 30 minutes, incl. wash and blowout). I left feeling super good about the cut. BUT OMG, I have never received so many compliments on a haircut! I'm a wash-and-go type of gal, and I love that this cut looks good both blown-out, as well as air-dried. Not gunna lie, the cuts at L'Eau are kinda pricey but I feel I may have no choice but to return to Ziya. read more

I came in on a Wednesday afternoon to have a hair treatment and cut by the salon owner, LoAnn. The hair salon is clean, bright and relaxing. Staff were attentive and friendly and the feeling in the place is laid back - it feels like an escape from the busy energy of the city. I enjoyed their reclining massage chairs at the hair washing station! The place has nice music (not too loud), updated equipment, and good ventilation, which is important when chemical treatments are being done. It never felt crowded or rushed. LoAnn is a true professional who takes pride in her work and makes sure things are done right. I paid more here than at other salons, but the experience was also better for all the reasons mentioned above! The only inconvenience (for me) was street parking in Georgetown! read more

Last month Valerie did a Keratin treatment on my hair. I was skeptical that it would work as advertised on my super frizzy hair and Valerie was honest about what I could and could not expect. My hair is now soft and smooth, much easier to manage and takes less than half the time it used to take to style it. I will definitely keep up with these treatments. So... I liked her so much I decided to go back this month and have her redo my color, highlights and cut, which was in desperate need of help. Without disparaging my previous stylist she explained how a change in color and tone would make ME look better and then made some suggestions about my cut. I now have beautifully colored hair with fantastic highlights and an updated cut with 'side-swept' bangs. "Wow - you look great!" were the first words out of both my husband's and daughter's mouth. I always go in with just an outline of what I want and EVERY SINGLE TIME Ziya kills it!! I had really dark thick hair and after my hair had been screwed up so many times with bad cuts and terrible bleaching, I was afraid to go back. I went to Salon l'Eau about a month ago and I can honestly say this is the best haircut I've ever received. I have long, wavy hair that is fairly brittle and dry. I feel like having a great haircut really defines my morning routine and how I feel throughout the day. This...is the haircut. I booked my appointment with Olivier and he was just a joy from the beginning to the end. Not only did Olivier see my vision and worked with it but he also gave me great tips on how to minimize my sudden onset of dandruff and regain the youthful, bouncy, shiny hair I once had. A month later, my haircut is still proving to need minimal styling and is growing out really beautifully. My dandruff is basically eradicated and that bounce is back! Terrible experience with LoAnn at this salon. I ended up with red hair when I specifically stated I did not want this shade/color. My hair was fried so horribly that I have to get several inches cut off. When I followed back with the salon, I was told to let my hair grow out. Are you kidding me? The purpose of this review is the following: 1. Always ask your stylist at EVERY step, what they are doing and confirm that they understood what you told them to do and more importantly NOT to do. 2. I too was not prepared for the time commitment for this appointment and after almost four hours, and $400.00 later, total disappointment. I had to get on a plane the next day after this debacle. 3. Don't work with a stylist/colorist who does not know how to work with fine hair. I ended up with long bangs that now curl up like a poodle since the hair so was fried from the processing. read more

I followed my stylist, Tori, to this super cute salon a few years back. Tori is great with my hair. She has taken my curly, thick hair through my ever changing styles. I have had long, straight, and shiny, to a curly bob, and now have a cropped, sleek, wavy pixie. She is often busy with many clients but is very attentive when working with you and your hair. She has a great understanding of hair and how to match your visions with what your hair and interest in working for it will do. The other staff at the salon are great too. Carlos is always very helpful when I try to change my appointments over and over again :-) and the assistants provide warm, friendly service - I especially like a great shampoo and they deliver! I love Yelp but never posted so this is my first review. Since I have been a happy customer for a few years and received numerous compliments on my hair I thought I should let my secret out: my fantastic stylist, Ziya, at Salon L'eau! You know that feeling when you walk out of the salon and feel great because of a fantastic haircut... I am lucky enough to have that every time because I found a talented stylist to make that happen. It all started because I had hair envy- One of my girlfriend's hair always looks great so I asked her where she went. She said Salon L'eau in Georgetown and that it is known to be one of the best in the city. I was not unhappy with my stylist at the time but her haircut and color always looked amazing - a real stand out. So, I called to get an appointment and have never looked back! I have been to salons before where they push products on the customer but here I never feel pressured to buy anything - even though I do because they sell products like Oribe and Kerastase! Since I have been going to Ziya, I get compliments (and stares!) on my haircut for months afterwards. I have realized that the cut has staying power and lasts for a long time which is the sign of a good cut and why the compliments keep coming. During the consult, we'll discuss what I have in mind, he listens then prepares for the treatment- highlights, post highlight conditioning treatment and cut. The result: beautiful, shimmery highlights with contrasting tones and an updated cut. And more compliments! Thank you, Ziya, I appreciate your work. I went to salon l'eau for the first time yesterday and had highlights done by Bach Lam. He is truly AMAZING!!!! My hair had been looking brassy and he knew exactly what to do. I have never gotten so many compliments on my hair ever. He has such a gift for knowing exactly what to do. Would highly recommend him! Plan to go back for Keratin next! Amazing hair awaits you at this lime green townhouse on a Georgetown side street. When I'm out and about after a session with Tori, people do double-takes. She makes my frizzy, curly hair look soooo good. And she always give me a cut that works well straight or curly, which is important, since I am not as skilled with the brush and blow dryer as she is. My cut and color are pricey, yes, and it's cash or check only. But it's really worth it to get a stylist who is current and professional. And if you have difficult hair, like I do, you need someone who is really experienced and talented. Tori is going to give you a haircut that is right for you. I went in a few months ago for a Japanese Liscio hair straightening with Lo Ann. She was amazing! The front desk staff and salon staff are so nice, welcoming, and professional. I just moved to DC from NYC and used to get the same Liscio hair straightening treatment from my previous stylist in New York. Since I was moving and wanted to continue my treatments, he recommended Lo Ann to me because there are actually only a few people that can do this lengthy hair process! So I was relieved to find Lo Ann and have her help my hair that was desperately overdue for a touch up. She worked magic with my overgrown frizzy roots and really took her time to make sure everything was done properly. She explained to me what she was doing throughout the process and walked me through it until the end. It was comforting to be taken care of so well especially when this is not a process you just decide to do on a whim. And because the process takes a whole day pretty much (about 6 hours) she was kind enough to go out and buy me lunch. (I didn't ask her to, she was just super sweet and super thoughtful) Lo Ann also gave me a free hair trim after she finished straightening it. She is the best in DC. Lo Ann is the sweetest, so humble, and she was so fun to talk to! We really had fun and it was a pleasure to have her do my hair. The process is a little pricey, but trust me, you don't want to go cheap on your precious hair! At least I don't. Worth every buck. Lo Ann is my new hair guru!!! I am in love with my straight hair. It is so soft, healthy and shiny! And after my first wash, it still looks as amazing as the day it was done in the salon! A+ Lo Ann! read more
