I have my first and last experience at Salon L'eau this past February. After the doors closed on the Erwin Gomez Salon I was forced to look elsewhere, unfortunately I found myself here. As Marilyn noted as well, be very weary if you go to Tori - she spent more time complaining about her coffee, the music in the hair salon, and trying to get some type of gossip out of me about my previous salon then actually doing my hair. I am so excited that Nadia is now at Salon L'eau! When I first moved to DC/VA from Dallas I struggled to find the right person to create perfect brows (I have blonde hair and feel like I look so much better with a tint and full shape). Finally someone recommended Nadia and I've been seeing her for the past three years for eyebrow shaping and waxing and can truly say she is the absolute best in the business. I tried to make an appointment for Japanese straightening but I was very put off by a slimy guy on the phone who not only asked me for my credit card number when I made the appointment he also tried to run the card to take a $340 deposit right then. He told me I would have up to 48 hours before the appointment to cancel or they would keep the deposit. He said the deposit that was taken from my credit card would be applied to the price of the straightening. I have had my hair Japanese straightened for years by very high-end salons in NYC and was never asked for a deposit like this when I made the appointments. I think this practice in this salon is highly suspicious and should be reported. read more

Very, very nice salon. I came for an up-do for my best friend's wedding and paid $150 (ouch) but it was done SO WELL, I really can't complain. They do a beautiful job with makeup, too. This review is for Bach Lam, who I visited when he was at Paul Bosserman. I have naturally light brown/red hair and have been getting highlights since I was 16, and Bach does a f***ing fabulous job! I've always had issues with highlight tone: too brassy, too white, too yellow, too chunky, too thin, etc. I went to Bach last summer and left looking like I had spent months on an island. My hair looked so naturally sun-kissed blonde, improved my skin tone and made me look tan (and I do not tan), it was healthy and shiny. I just can' say enough. He's also just genuinely friendly and has great vision. He's listen to what you want, but will tell you straight about what to expect and what your options are given your hair type. He is truly gifted and after trying a few other salons in DC, I've realized that I should have just stuck with him... So I will be making another appointment this week :D read more

I highly recommend Tori Platania at Salon L'Eau. When it comes to hair, Tori is a perfectionist, which is why I have been solely going to her for 8 years now. She is a whiz with scissors. I know Tori keeps up with all the latest styles for all lengths of hair - and masters them. She is also -hands down - one of the very best colorists in the city. Age doesn't matter. I was not requesting purple hair, even though it could have been cool. He is not bad, but we just did not click and he made me feel old. I stopped going there. Paul Bosserman has been cutting my hair for many years. He is creative yet precise and always uses fabulous judgement. Over the years I have been introduced to his long standing loyal clients and they vary from women with long hair, impossible wavy hair (me),all ages and both sexes. All their backgrounds are so interesting and in these cases all seem to have high standards. Funny thing, years do not matter. Each time full attention and fresh eyes are always there so I seem to be looking younger with new fabulous cuts. Paul is the best as a stylist, warm person, and perfectionist. Definitely go to him! I followed my stylist, Bertrand, to Salon L'Eau when he moved from another location in Georgetown. I was a bit worried about the support staff there but after two visits I am extremely happy. Bertrand is wonderful, professional and a great stylist. But I am also very happy with the staff at the front desk ( especially Carlos), the shampoo ladies and Yuna, who did my eyebrows and is wonderful. I can't say enough good things about the salon in general. I am very happy and will stay with Salon L'eau as long as Bertrand is there. read more

I have been going to tori for about 2 years. She is expensive but it is the first time in my life I don't have to go back to get my highlights redone for months. She handprints them in and there is never that dreaded line. I get my colour but no blowdry or cut so it works out very reasonable for 3 months. She is by far the best colorist I have had looks really natural. I once went to someone cheaper and ended up back with my tail between my legs. She did a great job fixing their mess. I have been going to see Ziya for a year now, and he always makes my hair look AMAZING! He truly has magic hands. His expert knowledge and technical skills regarding color and cut are unsurpassed and he does THE BEST blowout. He is able to make my naturally wavy hair super straight using only a brush--something that other stylists have always had to use a flat iron to achieve. The first time he styled my hair, for weeks after everywhere I went people would stop and compliment me on my hair and how fabulous it looked--even in line at the grocery store. They wanted to know what I did to make it look so great and I told them--Ziya was my secret weapon. While it's true that you can pay less elsewhere, it is also true that YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. And with Ziya, a great cut and color with him enables me to go three months between appointments. So I actually end up spending less over the course of the year, and my hair looks its absolute best! One time my appointment had to be rescheduled and unwisely I chose to see another stylist at a different salon. What a mistake. It wasn't a "cheap" salon--it was an Aveda salon--but the stylist there just couldn't compare to Ziya. She just gave me the highlights I was booked for and cut my hair, offering no guidance as to what would look best with my coloring and face shape. As a result, I ended up being overly blonde and looking too "washed out". Ziya would have never let this happen. He is meticulous and honest, quick to assess my hair and tell me exactly what it needs in order to continue to look fabulous. I will never see another stylist again. I tried this salon after a friend highly recommended it and after reading so many good reviews. I called the salon and asked for a stylist who was good with short haircuts. I guess I should have asked for a stylist who would listen to what I wanted in addition. I showed up for my appointment equipped with pictures and was very specific about not wanting short choppy layers all over and wanting length on the top and through the bangs. I basically showed him pictures of a long pixie haircut. I closed my eyes when he was cutting the front to avoid getting hair in my eyes, and when I opened my eyes, I was shocked and incredibly unhappy to find that my hair was short and choppy all over! And, honestly short is an understatement! Parts of my bangs were no longer than 1/2 inch long! I was (and still am) incredibly angry and horrified. But, as bad as it seemed, I decided I wouldn't say anything or write a bad review until I gave it some time to grow out. It has now been one month, and I can honestly say that this is one of the worst haircuts I've ever had. I have a big reunion coming up in another month, and there is no chance that these awful layers will be grown out by then. I am so disappointed in this high-end salon. read more

The one stylist who the deal is good for is always convienently gone or on vacation - and they will NOT honor the deal after the expiration date even if it's their stylist's availability which is dictating the schedule. Be very cautious if you go to Tori. She ruined my day with her rude racist comments and most noteworthy gave me the worst haircut I've ever had. For real. The first time I went to her she actually did a decent job, spent a lot of time on my hair and was generally pleasant. The second time I went she triple booked herself and neglected to work the color through my hair. She acted all surprised when it didn't take at all and tried to blame it on my hair. She just said "come back next time and I won't charge you". Instead of not charging me right then for doing nothing!! Then she was so distracted and flustered by her terrible color job that she gave me a crappy haircut. But I had to go back to get the color fixed so I just waited until I needed a haircut again. Thought that maybe she was just having a bad day. She complained that I waited to long to come back, did an okay job with the color but then basically chopped my hair to pieces in anger. I'm not that vain, don't really care, it'll grow back but I just want you all to know that she's crabby and unfair. And a shitty hairstylist all around. I'm sure other people there are very good so I wouldn't write off the whole place, just her. read more

I will never go back. Valerie was the worst stylist ever. I got a keratin treatment done and she forgot to tell me one minor detail--to use sulfate free shampoo. My hair looks like nothing has been done to it. She even tried to make it seem like it was my fault for not paying attention to her. It was my first time getting it done so I was all ears and knew that she didn't say anything about that. When I tried to explain to her that I was unhappy with her service, she pretty much just hung up the phone on me without offering any resolution. Additionally, she was rude and fake when she was doing my hair. She was unfriendly but she started talking to me when her other client came in. The sad part is, I think the owner completely backs her up. She's not a bright one either--it took her weeks to return my call, only for her to tell me that she doesn't think there's anything she can do about it. I also feel like they didn't spend quality time with my hair as I got a deal through Living Social. If they were smart, they would try their hardest to keep that customer! After my usual stylist moved out of the city, I read some Yelp reviews and decided to try Torie, mostly because the salon is only two blocks from my apartment. Please, don't make the same mistake I did. I have long hair that I like to wear with a few long layers. After I explained that I wanted to keep as much length as possible and put in layers, she replied, "I know exactly what to do with your hair," which apparently meant whatever she wanted. She chopped several inches off my hair, and the front layers were so short that I couldn't pull them into a low ponytail, which is essential for workouts. Also, the layers didn't blend in the front and looked very choppy. I was shocked when she was done. It was not what I wanted at all, but I'm not too high maintenance with my hair...I always figure it will grow back. I had no idea at the time how badly she had butchered my hair, so I just left. That night, I had to pull my hair up into a high ponytail to workout, which is when I realized how bad the cut truly was. Not only did she not listen to what I wanted, but the cut was severely lopsided. With my hair in a ponytail, one section hung down 2" longer than the rest. It looked ridiculous. This is the WORST haircut I ever received. I was too scared to go back and try to get if fixed--I didn't want her to make it any worse. When I used a LivingSocial deal to get a Keratin treatment at Salon Daniel a couple of weeks ago, the stylist was so flabbergasted by my haircut that she fixed it for free. She thought maybe I had try to cut it myself. Seriously, do not go to Torie. read more

I went to see another stylist but the not too helpful receptionist gave me Torie; I showed her a picture of the cut & color that I wanted. Not only did she not consult with me but I ended up with the exact color that I told her I did NOT want ( which now has to be corrected. At another salon) & the color washed out in less than 2 wks. The cut was horrible. She does NOT listen but like many poor stylists does what she wants-unrelated to the fact that you have to live with it. For this I had the privilege of paying more than $250.-a complete rip-off. Never again! read more

I had a haircut and blowout here two days ago and I have to say that I was left underwhelmed. The salon itself is nice and clean and you get the feeling that they serve some very upscale (read: rich) clientele. However, unfortunately, they did not offer up the service to match. First of all, I was kept waiting for around 10 minutes before my stylist was able to greet me at all, despite arriving on the dot at my scheduled appointment time. Okay, so he was finishing up with his last client. I get it. But the waiting game didn't stop there. I had my hair washed by an assistant and was seated in the chair and greeted by my stylist (Ziya). So I thought my appointment would begin then, right? Wrong. Another client walked in an sat down at the station next to me and my stylist asked me if I "have some time." I didn't, really. But he said he needed to do her color first before getting to me, so I said okay just to be polite. So then I was left waiting for 10-15 more minutes with sopping wet hair during my appointment time while someone else got her color done. Not okay. If they were going to make me wait longer anyway, they should have at least waited to wash my hair. It was quite uncomfortable to sit in the stylists chair with wet stringy hair dripping down my neck while watching someone else get served during my time. At this price point, there should be no double-booking. I digress. So then, my stylist finally hurried back over and hastily began to cut without putting my cape (What do you call those things?) on, so that the wet clippings of hair fell onto my arms. It wasn't until a few minutes later that he remembered and then put the cover on me. Again--uncomfortable. Not only that, but when he styled my hair with the roundbrush, he burned my scalp several times by directing the scalding hot air directly at my scalp rather than my hair. When I mentioned this, he apologized but then followed up by saying that it was due to my "baby hairs." I don't expect this kind of blame-gaming at such a posh salon! Finally, what REALLY turned me off was that when my fellow patron and I were offered cappuccinos, and we (of course) said yes please, the stylist was very rude to the kitchen attendants on the phone. I could hear him practically yelling at someone (The call was made right in front of us) to bring the cappuccinos down. This made my quite uncomfortable to begin with; then, when a lady brought us two caps (when we needed three) he spoke very sternly to her right in front of us, practically fuming. "We need THREE CAPPUCCINOS. Three!! Got it?! Bring me ANOTHER one!" was essentially what he said. Not only was this treatment rather unprofessional to be done in front of salon clients, but I also thought that it was quite rude the to poor lady who was serving us. All in all, while my haircut was relatively good (My hair is bit shorter than I wanted, but ah well--it'll grow out. Isn't that what we always tell ourselves?), I found the service to be below average, ESPECIALLY at the price point. There are plenty of places to get cuts in DC, especially when you are willing to shell out $100+, so I don't see any reason to compromise on the service. Thankfully, I had a voucher and didn't pay the full price this time around, and I definitely will not be going back there at full price. Sorry to be the odd one out here. read more

I have been going to Christophe for years. I love Christophe and his assistant but I always feel rushed through my appointment. His services costs a fortune so considering the costs you might expect a little pampering or attention to detail. You will not find it. Instead I often feel like I'm in a factory, being transferred from chair to chair, and person to person, and then rushed out the door. Their best work is coloring. Within 15 minutes of walking in, and down $130, I was walking out the door without a blow dry and a terrible haircut. I have no idea what to do with it but now I'm wearing it back and in a ponytail to hide the mess. It's too short and choppy to fix...I just hope it grows quickly. We moved to Georgetown about a year ago and I began looking for someone in my new neighborhood to cut and color my hair. With an active life, I don't fuss with my hair, but getting the cut right and the color pretty is not so simple. Ziya does a wonderful job. In his quiet way, he encouraged me to try something just a little more interesting and I am completely happy with the result. Along with great skills, Ziya does not seem to believe he needs to entertain me while he works on my hair. He is completely polite and talks if that is what his client wants, but I am looking for a quiet space in my day and so appreciate his sensitivity to that. I realize that many people enjoy lively conversation and the bustle of a busy salon. You can definitely get that at Salon L'Eau, but if you're looking for a great stylist who will also let you alone with your thoughts and a book (or a good fashion magazine), Ziya's your guy. I've been nervous about going to a new salon since moving to the area, and this salon confirmed my worst fears. When I walked back into the salon, I was instantly greeted by a huge red flag- being the only customer present. This freaked me out but I really needed a haircut and I figured it would be nice for it to be a little peaceful. It turned out to just be really really awkward. The stylist walked in and greeted me but basically didn't address me again. He cut a lot of hair off because I had split ends, but he was kind of rude about it when I asked for his recommendation. He did cut off enough length for my hair to be healthy, but he didn't even cut in a straight line- I was left with a huge chunk of hair that I realized when I got home was about a 1/2 inch shorter than the rest of my hair. The only time he made conversation with me was when he tried to sell me a hair smoothing treatment for a couple hundred dollars that I repeatedly said I didn't want. In total, he spent about the same amount of time cutting and styling my hair as another girl spent washing it. I was in and out in about 25 minutes. Maybe that's the experience some people want, but that is not the experience I'm looking for when I get a $100+ haircut. I'm used to paying less than that for nice conversation, hair and product advice, complimentary hair treatments, and all in all about 45 minutes to an hour spent on a really great hair cut. This was a huge disappointment. Thank goodness I only spent half the regular price, since I had a Gilt deal, but even at the reduced price, this haircut was not worth it. It could be that Ziya knows which clients come in on a deal, and doesn't treat them as well, but either way, I wouldn't risk it. read more

I've followed LoAnn for about nine years now and I love her cuts. She has a very modern and refined style -- I let her have her way with my hair and never leave her salon disappointed. After two kids and moving to the suburbs, I'm not able to see her as often as I'd like (I get trims at a salon closer to my house) but when I need a new, fresh look, I always run to Salon L'eau. She's a bit pricey, but I always leave satisfied, which I can't say that about a few other high-end salons I've been to in DC. read more
