I just got home from picking up two salads at Salata. It was our second visit and I can't say enough good things about this place. They offer a huge salad bar from which you select your lettuce from six or so mixes including kale, toppings (tons), choose one of their dozen or so in house made dressings, select a protein from 8 options (maybe more). They toss all the ingredients and plate it for in house dining or in to go boxes along with a free roll. We each must have selected 10+ toppings, chicken and added on a $1 artichoke upgrade and our total was $22. It was all fresh, delicious and well prepared and huge portions. They also seem to have an iced tea/lemonade bar too but we didn't notice it until we walked out. If you are looking for a healthy recommendation, I highly recommend it! read more

I have heard about Salata for awhile now, it was especially mentioned in the work place since my co-workers really liked it...What took me so long to come here? My boyfriend loves salads (and so do I!) and we really wanted one on a hot summer day (plus we wanted to do some shopping in the Arbor Walk area) We were really impressed by the salad bar which had everything, all chopped up, fresh and organized. The lady helping us was very friendly and enthusiastic. The dressings were delicious. We tried a lime one (I believe?) which she said is one of their favorites. Honestly, this might be one of the most poor salata locations I have been to. I ordered a small salad for pick up, via online (which I have done multiple times at many other locations). This location really didn't do well. They managed to leave off half of the toppings I had selected, and the avocado skin was still on (kind of a pain considering I only grabbed a fork). My biggest complaint though is that the romaine in my salad was pink..... I mean come on, it's a salad place... HAVE FRESH ROMAINE. Great for what it is - fast-casual "pick your toppings" salad place. Ambiance is somewhere between Subway and Panera. They offer small or regular sized salads and wraps. The small salad is always plenty for me. The "regular" salad is HUGE and served in a stainless steel bowl bigger than your head. Never had their wraps, but a wrap is a wrap to me. I'm sure it's good if that's what you're there for; I'm always there for a salad. They have extensive veggie and protein options, offer a few soups, and a few side bread options. I feel like the prices are very fair - I'd much rather come here and get a set price salad with all kinds of goodies rather than go to the by-the-pound places and pay $20 for the same salad. Not because it's anything like sweetgreens (if you're ever in DC, Boston, or NYC .... go), but because you're getting fresh, healthy, and reasonably priced food that comes in relatively large portions and will leave you feeling good about yourself. A few things that set Salata apart: - Like Subway, you go down the line and choose everything you want in your salad -- and they have something like 200 choices -- and you can have as many/as much as you want. Want two more scoops of snow peas? Go for it. Want triple cheese? Your wish is their command. Still the same price. - They have the calories of every single item listed to help you make better choices (and this is most relevant when it comes to the dressing - you'll think again about ordering two scoops of ranch). - Their protein options consist of multiple types of chicken, seafood and tofu. No red meat in sight. YOU BANG FOR YOUR BUCK HERE! It's a salad bar that offers salad bowls in sizes of small and large ($7 and $8 each) they also offer a wrap. The salads are massive and so hefty. Pretty much has all toppings you could expect at a decent salad bar and you can add on protein for $1 or pay $3-4 for fancy proteins. The choice of dressing is extensive especially in the vinaigrette area but other dressings are there and very good (I sampled a good amount of them)! At the end they toss the salad you've built and you can top it off with croutons, pita bread, bread; whatever you please. The produce is so fresh and good and the portions are so large you'll definitely have left over to take home with the large size especially.. unless you're a beast and eat like one hahaha The wrap works exactly like the salad bowls. You put in whatever you want in your wrap into the bowl and toss it and they'll wrap it in a tortilla of your choice at the end and whatever didnt fit in the tortilla you can take with you as a salad. My husband and I discovered Salata a few days ago, and we've already been there for a second meal. It's been a great break from heavy holiday overeating. We've been greeted by friendly employees on both visits. The place was pretty empty (first time in the evening, second time after the lunch rush), but I'm sure it's a hoppin' place on weekday lunches. You can choose from several salad mixes -- Salata mix, romaine, spring mix, spinach, kale, etc. -- then pile on anything you like from veggies, fruits, cheeses, etc. Pick your dressing, or mix it up (I get half spicy chipotle and half ranch). Sometimes I just want a really BEEUG salad. And I can get one here. And I don't have to go to Central Market or Whole Foods to get it. And no I won't be going to Souper Salads...gross! For $8 you can get anything in your salad, the toppings are endless. Or for $7 you can get a salad wrap with whatever you desire. The toppings are beautiful! It's sort of set up cafeteria like. Its kind of like the chipolte/subway for salads. When you're done choosing whatever you want in your salad bowl, which resembles a huge dog water bowl, someone at the salad mixer station will toss your salad for you...imagine telling someone that your job is the salad tosser. HAHA! You can also add meaty proteins to your salad for an additional $2-$3 charge, or add avocado for an additional $1. Your salad also comes with a tasty bread option. I dig the pesto bread. Soup add-ons to your meal are an additional $2-$3 and I have tried the tomato basil as well as the broccoli. I didn't love the broccoli soup but I'm happy to have this salad option nearby, which each time makes me pleasantly full from my meal. Don't forget to try their teas & lemonades which are fantastic! The staff here are super awesomely nice and will explain the process to you. They also sell all of their dressings they offer by the bottle for $6! I've always loved salad, the type of prep and work involved for a really great salad is a labor of love. It's never had anything to do with "healthy" for me, recently I've been on a salad kick all over town and Salata is ok, acceptable, nothing special. Salata is next door to Plato's Closet in the Arbor Walk. The employees greet you with a smile and are always around to ask how your experience is going. You can choose from a salad ($8) or wrap ($7) plus protein- chicken ($2), ham or seafood ($3). As soon as you enter the line, you are thrust into the ordering system without fully realizing how it works or what you have to choose from, an available ingredient list at the beginning would be awesome for me. I find most salads are composed around their dressing and without any knowledge of what ingredients to choose from, suggestions, base salads, or even their available dressings it's hard to conceptualize. The system is setup to encourage you to keep adding ingredients to further complicate your salad, maybe if you could choose a serving size since the bar is unlimited it would be a more efficient way to communicate. As it stands, if you plan to have a salad with say 3-4 ingredients you will receive about 5-7 cut pieces of each. The ingredients didn't stand out either, they weren't in bad shape but if vegetables don't taste like themselves when they're raw I dunno when else they will. I love the variety of the salad bar itself, there are even a few slightly obscure salad ingredients like sprouts, kale, asparagus, jicama. They also brew 6 iced teas (both green and black) in house and offer bottled soft drinks. The smoked turkey they make in house is really delicious. The dressings are tasty, the herb vinaigrette in particular is good, and it's $1 for extra dressing. Here's one of my qualms with this establishment, if I wanted a classic cobb it would run me $12 after $1 for a few measly avocado slices. At that rate I might as well go eat a restaurant salad or Leaf- which is cheaper, local, better ingredients, and supports local farms. All I know is that if Leaf is a 4, Salata is a 3. Although, if you have a good idea of what you like and don't mind asking "more, please" a couple of times you can probably build yourself a nice salad for a normal price. It's in a convenient spot and I am obsessed with freshness and texture, so I'm hoping in the future I can teach myself to build a salad I would be happy to call 4 stars. Damn, they make great made to order salads. Every topping your little heart could desire from sundried tomatoes to pumpkin seeds to pita chips to bean sprouts to strawberries. Many tasty dressings, protein option for an added fee, although honestly I put beans on my salad for free and rarely pay the upgrade fee. A small salad is big enough for me when I pile on lots of toppings. They offer a couple of bread choices for free and toast them for you. And I don't pass up their iced tea and lemonade bar with cool flavors like prickly pear limeade and plum cinnamon black tea. I drive pretty far out of my way to eat lunch here. This is the Grand Daddy of all salad bars. If you can't create a fancy gourmet salad here there's something wrong. Hundreds of options exist and your imagination is your guide. You may get a small (it's huge) or a large (it's gigantic). Imagine spinach, salad greens, cranberries, grilled chicken, bleu cheese, pumpkin seeds, tomatoes, cukes, red onions, raw nuts, grapes, parmesan cheese, and dressing of your choice (there are so many) nestled in your stainless steel bowl. Salata is a great place to go if you're thinking about hitting up a salad bar at your local supermarket for a meal. You can't beat the pricing and portions at this place. $8 for a veggie only salad, add $3 if you're getting meat on top of it and add $1 if you're adding avocado. With those prices you can't go wrong. After I went for lunch the other day, I did a "scientific test" where I went and put together my own salad for dinner at Central Market. The Salata salad was about 1.5x as big as the salad from Central Market and cost me $8 total. The Central Market salad which was smaller was $9.26 total... and I had to put together the salad myself and it didn't come in a fancy metal mixing bowl. Salata just kinda wins on the salad front. It's a smart concept of a restaurant and I get it... because if you don't waste a bunch of junk or lose a bunch because people's hands are all up in it making their own salads, you can charge a flat rate and make money... Salata's staff are super nice and love working there as well. Overall, it's a great experience with a super clean venue and an incredible value. read more

Love it! I've been looking for a salad spot to replace my love for Sweet Tomatoes/ Soup Plantation from home. Every tasted fresh, and loved the size of my large salad. By not putting the dressing on the side, I was able to eat some and have the rest for lunch tomorrow. I will be back. I have been coming to this establishment for years and have never received worse treatment than today. I have a SEVERE shellfish allergy and the person that was making my salad initially acted as if he knew what he was doing, but instead was doing everything wrong. When I asked to have a manager make my order, a manager did come, but she/he (trans manager) was rude AF. She literally said "I will have someone else deal with you." And walked away. Now I am very polite every time I have come in but you better believe I work too damn hard to be disrespected in this manner. I stood up for myself and they brought the general manager out, Chad to complete my order. Is this shitty customer service? Absolutely. Is it difficult to follow the same protocols each time I come in ESPECIALLY since I have been coming here for years and you see my same face every time? Pick-your-own-salad joint? Sweet. This is absolutely relevant to my interests, only the implementation is a little...hmm. First off, there are all these wonderful toppings to choose from. Only problem: the dressing selection is mostly creamy. I love vinaigrettes and was hoping to have a better selection of those. Nope. There's a couple. They're okay, but nothing special. Even the balsamic is kind of a creamy version. The lemon vinaigrette, too--a bit thick. Sure, there's oil and vinegar, but it's a disappointing selection after the wide variety of toppings to add on. Secondly, the salads are HUGE! Sure, you can get two meals' worth of salady goodness in one dish, but salad doesn't really keep well. A huge improvement would be the option to get a slightly smaller salad for $6 or so. The ingredients seem like they're a decent quality. I love the lemonades and teas you can get here. I like the concept. It's just too much food for a quickie lunch joint, for too much dough. It's a high 3, almost 4, but I can't justify a 4 when I know I'll seldom be back. I guess I had unwarranted high expectations coming into this place... I miss being downtown and having Leaf nearby, and I had highly hoped this was a similar concept. It's just a salad bar. I mean, you can get a salad bar anywhere. And there are so many ingredients it's overwhelming and the staff doesn't help you and it's just like "derrrrrrr" unless you are like, a salad guru and know EXACTLY what you want in your salad. Yum yum yum yum yum... You know it's good when two random strangers next to each other start talking about how much they love this place while they are in line making their salads. Healthy and fresh, there is no way I could make a salad like this at home... With maybe 20 ingredients & homemade dressing! Every time I've come, ingredients are too notch- nothing ever looks wilted or dry or dirty. They keep this Salata clean and fresh! Don't be scared to combine new veggies and fruits- I haven't made a combo I didn't like yet. I always get chicken and their chicken is good! But coworkers also like this shrimp and salmon toppings. Favorite dressings: Caesar & herb vinegarette (separate, not combined, duh). Was not a fan of the fat free sundried tomato... FYI Caesar actually has less fat and calories than the vinegarette... So don't be afraid to pick a creamy dressing. Favorite soup: tomato basil is so good! The broccoli cheese was too much broccoli for me and haven't tried the tortilla one but looked watery to me. The place is clean and well maintained.Set up is similar to a cafeteria. Then you go to the vegetables where they have about 20 different options (tomatoes, onions, celery, chickpeas, tofu, etc.). Then go to the nuts and seeds section, and the fruit and cheese section. Then the meats (I opted for tofu). After that select one of their home made dressings and your staff member will mix it all together and out comes your salad or wrap (they also have 5 or so different kinds of tortillas). I usually get the wheat wrap with spinach, mixed greens, tomatoes, onions, cilantro, tofu, strawberries, apples, and almonds, mixed with their herb vinaigrette dressing (vegan). It's a huge salad bar with every possible veggie you can imagine. You can get a salad or a wrap. I love the wrap with basically all the veggies and Chipotle chicken. They even offer soup on the side. But guess what you can't have??? Black pepper on your salad BEFORE they wrap it up. I do not understand why I cannot get a sprinkling of pepper INSIDE of my wrap. Pointing me to the counter with a zillion pepper grinders on a wall for me to do after you wrap it up makes no sense at all. Every time I get excited about going here because of the quality ingredients, I get let down just as they prepare to wrap my salad up in delicious southwestern tortilla goodness. Why can't y'all just have a pepper (and salt for those who desire it) grinder right there??? I mean even Subway has them...why is this difficult? Is there some company policy against seasonings INSIDE of wraps??? Sprinkling pepper with every few bites pisses me off to no end when there is such a simple fix. When I asked the young lady if I could bring her a grinder, she rolled her eyes and said no because she needed to keep the line moving. Well....have a damn grinder right there then!
