Create your own salad - spinach chicken tortilla taco salad
    Erika P.

Staff was very friendly, service to order food was quick and veggies are fresh, but baked "chicken" seems questionable. I asked for spinach base, but it's actually a spring mix with quite a bit of romaine for bulk. You can pick 3-4 toppings and then a dressing. I had brought my own avocado to add without paying an "extra" fee. YES, that's allowed through security. All in all, I know the airport price is overly high, so you might be better to bring your own food, but if you can't this salad works ;-)

Worked out well. Eased a quick bite and I wanted a salad. I saw Salad Works and ordered a Greek Salad + Chicken. The salad took a minute to and I was eating it minutes later. It was just what I needed and with no delay or fuss.

Are you living that fast paced, airport lifestyle for work or pleasure and not sure what to eat after those pescy security lines and that long hike through Concourse C? Located inside the food court there is a healthier food option called Salad works instead of the alternative fast food. They have curated salad options to select from or you can build your own salad with up to 5 toppings & a dressing for someone indesicive like myself. I still paid the airport price of $13.49 but I wasn't sacrificing any calories.

Very standard salad, decent selection of toppings to customize. If you're looking for something vegan, this would be a good choice. All the veggies seemed fresh. It's a little overpriced for salad, but that's airport food. It was a good, healthy meal so I was happy. The service was neither friendly nor unfriendly, but efficient. This airport location only does salads and wraps, no grain bowls like you'll see on the online menu.

I thought this was a decent, but slightly overpriced dinner option at O'Hare. My salad and a bottle of Sprite came to $19. Salads come with 4 toppings and a protein, or 5 non-protein, and a little cup of dressing. There is a decent variety of toppings to chose from - broccoli, tomatoes, cucumber, chopped eggs, sliced mushrooms, white beans, corn, chickpeas, carrots, pasta, croutons, etc, on spring mix or chopped romaine. They also have some suggested salads that have a similar amount of toppings and were nice combinations. I went with a very basic spring mix, carrots, broccoli, cucumber slices, eggs, and croutons with ranch, which was probably the freshest meal option available at the airport. I thought it was a decent dinner and the lady at the counter was very efficient. Salad works is in a small food court with tables, or you can carry your food to one of the gates with a variety of seating opitons.

It's ok. It's salad. Decent and tasty sauce in my Caesar salad. Nothing exciting but it's the little sacrifices I make for the better meals ;D

If you're into stale and wilted lettuce and slightly below mediocre fresh vegetables on your salad, this place will not disappoint! Literally wish they had a return line on this one. The two cucumbers were amazing tho...

The food court in ORD's Terminal 1 Concourse C is laden with sandwiches, pizza, and fried food. Hey, I usually ain't complaining about that, but I needed a "healthy" lunch during my layover to rich BBQ meat-filled Kansas City. Saladworks it was! Service was really quick and kept the long line moving. However, the employee making my salad kept asking questions that were barely audible and would repeat herself in the same near-whisper. I got the Fire Roasted Cabo salad which came with chicken, tomatoes, roasted peppers, corn, beans, and tortilla strips. The salad is Mexican themed but just comes with Italian dressing from a bottle. The chicken was not good; it seemed just like wet, previously frozen chunks. The tuna in the Niçoise salad just looked like canned chunk dark meat. The tomatoes were very pale and bland. But I was content that the lettuce was crisp and not wilted at all. TL;DR: Not a great salad, skip the meat, but it's a healthy option in this food court.

Decent airport food! Choose your own ingredients to make the salad of your dreams. I went with the iceberg lettuce, pasta, cucumber, carrots, mushroom, and sun dried tomatos with a balsamic vinaigrette on the side. I even spent the extra $$ to add a smidge avocado but not before the guy behind the counter wanted to give me a snotty righteous remark about how it costs extra. The veggies are pretty fresh so this vegan did not go hungry while waiting nearly 8 hours on standby for a flight home. The guy working behind the counter could use a better attitude though.

    Horrible attitude for no reason

Workers have a horrible attitude. Like is customer service not a thing anymore? If they don't want to work please don't force them because they making everybody's day bad for no reason

While you can get salads from many places in terminal 1, SW (Concourse C, C19) is the only dedicated salad spot. The salads are made to order - you can get their specialty salads (standard types like Club, Garden, Greek, Nicoise, BLT, Caesar are offered) or create your own (there aren't many toppings to choose from). You can add on extras (including proteins) to the specialty salads. Dressings come on the side. The dressings are also standard/classic. * Spinach salad ($7.49): It seemed fresh enough but plain and boring. The salad had dry whole leaves of spinach, chopped hard boiled eggs, salty bacon, and crunchy, salty croutons. It's not as large as I expected/hoped for. They also sell sandwiches and wraps. Outside of the airport, I'd give it two stars (mundane, few options, expensive) but the fact that the salads are made to order is kinda nice when you're trapped in an airport. It comes in a sturdy container which can easily be taken on the plane. Since it's in the food court, there's plenty of seating too.

5 stars based on Bahn mi, cha gio and iced coffee I ordered today…read more I must have been part of an early crowd. When I arrived, there was only one other table dining, which made it GREAT for me. It's a decent size hall with 10+ table arrangements, making it pretty great for a group to enjoy their lunch. It also featured a couple of kiosks for ordering, which I thought was a bit easy to miss, since it was tucked away in the left corner when you walked in. It looked like there was also a cashier available to take orders, if you miss the kiosks. I've seen places where they simply do not have anyone at the register to take orders, but that wasn't the case for Lotus. Before deciding to visit them today, I had an impression that their menu choices were very limited compared to other Vietnamese restaurants I was used to. I'm certainly not complaining, since I'm usually a huge fan of select "specialty" approach in restaurants. That's why I decided to order one of their Bahn mi, where I normally would have chosen pho for my first visit. And it didn't disappoint. First off, the size of the sandwich was good. I've had it where they charged a buck or two less, but they weren't big enough to be a full "lunch" portion. Lotus' size, I thought was decent. I had ordered one of their cha gios just in case the sandwich failed to fill me, but I think I would have been okay without it. Cha gio was super good tho! Oh, and the iced V-coffee was good, too. Typically, they'll bring out the coffee before your meal is ready, probably because they're ready-made in the morning and all you'd need to do is pour them over ice. I of course, have known legitimate mom n' pop places, where they'll actually bring out coffee as it's brewing in Phin (stainless steel coffee filter) and a glass of ice with condensed milk, so you can wait for the coffee to finish brewing and pour yourself one, which is what I *always* prefer. Not here, but no big deal. You can usually tell how good the food is going to be by trying their iced coffee. Even though V-coffee isn't known for using "incredible" beans, the balance of the strength of coffee and condensed milk *does* make a big difference in your experience. I felt this place had it correct! I'll definitely come back myself and even bring coworkers or my family to have their Bahn mi again. What I'm not sure about is whether I want to try their pho or bun. First, they don't offer too many variations, so I'm stuck choosing from just a few. (For example, I usually go for "brisket-only" or a combo of brisket and rare steak, but they didn't seem to have those options. Granted, it's possible they'll make it happen if I asked) Secondly, I think they're a couple bucks more expensive than what I would like to pay for a bowl of pho. We'll see.

Before that, I…read morechecked out a few eateries on the 4th floor of the Nordstrom building, but nothing really stood out, and honestly, none of them seemed very busy and the one restaurant Lao Sze Chuan was way too expensive, $30+ entrees were average and the place wasn't busy at all. So I decided to try Shang Noodle, which was tucked away on a side street off Grand Ave., just steps from Michigan Ave. It's across from the Nordstrom building, past Labriola's, down some steps and about a block away located on the south side of the street. As soon as I walked in, and I wasn't expecting this but the restaurant was extremely loud and nearly every seat was taken and everybody seemed to be enjoying themself, families, couples and groups. I figured that was a good sign and it signaled to me that the food was probably good! At first, the host wanted me to sit at the bar, which I politely declined because I don't usually sit at bars, also, I was there to eat, not pick up somebody! I noticed a small table open, pointed it out, and he kindly let me take it. No 'tude either! As far as my server goes, she was efficient, friendly, and very helpful with recommendations since it was my first visit and probably because I didn't look like the other customers who were more familiar with the cuisine. She suggested the pot stickers over the hot and sour soup, and the beef Chow Fun instead of chicken Chow Fun. The pot stickers were a little small, but crispy and very tasty. I also asked for some sweet and sour sauce on the side which I'm glad I did because it paired nicely with the pot stickers instead of that plain vinegar sauce they usually serve you. For my main dish, I ordered the char-grilled beef Chow Fun. The portion size was more than generous, and the char-grilled beef had a great umami flavor. A few of the rice noodles were a bit firm, likely undercooked, but overall though it was quite enjoyable. What I appreciated the most about Shang Noodle was the value. $18 for the beef Chow Fun and $9 for the pot stickers felt reasonable to me, considering it was on the dinner menu, the portion sizes were humongous and the restaurant was located on the Near North Side, which is usually quite pricey. I'll definitely be back, though next time I may try lunch instead, or go with friends of mine.
