The Good Shepherd

Beautiful views from inside and out. As soon as we pulled up, I thought this place was magnificent. We asked the waiter, it was repurposed from an old church. Open ceiling plan with a breathtaking stain-glass window. Great view of the lake that the building overlooks. The food itself was just as great as the views. If you like tequila, I recommend the "Good Shepard" cocktail. Tasty and delicious. From raw bar to appetizers, everything was phenomenal. Can't wait to come back here on my next visit to Chicago area.

I've visited the location in downers grove quite a few times but when I had a friend in from out of town we decided to try this location. I have to say this is an absolutely stunning restaurant. Located on a lake, we sat on the extremely large patio facing the water. We were able to observe a group taking a sailing course as entertainment while eating. The inside is breathtaking as it's a remodeled church with gorgeous stained glass as its centerpiece. Since I've been to the other location I knew what to expect for food and it did not miss the mark. Very consistent and delicious. However, we had quite terrible service. Our server had large gaps between checking in and we had to get up several times for requests like drink refills and also to get our own silverware. I'm hoping this is an exception to their norm, but the high quality service I experience time and time again in DG did not translate here. Tellegio flatbread is super underrated. Lobster dynamite is a must try.

This has to be one of my favorite spots in the Chicago suburbs! It is such a hidden gem for both its architecture and its food! The building itself used to be a church so there are high vaulted ceilings and stained glass windows. You can still see the church light fixtures and the cross on the front of the building. There is a beautiful outdoor space for when the weather is nice. The building looks out onto a lake which make it the most picturesque spot during the day. The food itself seems to be Mediterranean based though there is also poke so not sure what the cuisine really is... Everything I have tried from there has been amazing! I have gone there for both brunch and dinner and can honestly say there isn't anything I didn't like. Would definitely continue to come back as I think this is the perfect spot for special occasions like birthdays or anniversaries. The only caveat is that the space can get quite loud, especially at night which can make hearing others at your table somewhat difficult.

We celebrated our anniversary at this establishment, a place I've been hearing about for quite some time. Since it was a special occasion, we finally had the opportunity to dine here, and I made our reservation through the Resy app. When we arrived, we were seated quickly. The first thing that really caught my attention was the atmosphere. The restaurant was converted from a church, and I absolutely love how they preserved the original character of the space. The high ceilings make the restaurant feel open and spacious, while the beautiful stained-glass windows add so much charm and personality. For appetizers, we started with the Shrimp Saganaki and Lobster Maki Roll. Of the two, the Shrimp Saganaki was our favorite. We enjoyed the presentation, flavor, and texture, which were all right up our alley. The Lobster Maki Roll was good, but in my opinion, the lobster-to-rice ratio was a little too heavy on the rice. For my entrée, I ordered the Brick Chicken, which was served as a chicken quarter leg. It was cooked perfectly--the skin was crispy, the meat was tender and juicy, and the garlic sauce complemented the chicken beautifully. For dessert, we ordered the Banana Sticky Toffee Pudding served with vanilla gelato. It was phenomenal and the perfect way to finish our dining experience. I also have to mention the service. Our server was welcoming, attentive, and made us feel comfortable throughout our first visit. The restaurant went above and beyond to make our anniversary even more memorable by surprising us with complimentary champagne and dessert with a sparkling candle. That thoughtful gesture truly made the evening special. Overall, the atmosphere, service, and food were all a hit for us. We had a wonderful anniversary dinner and left with a great experience. They've definitely gained another loyal customer!

Such.A COOL place! Our Uber driver was taking us to the restaurant and it' appeared smack-dab in the middle of a residential area. I thought from our front that it was some type of community center but once inside it was nothing but WOW factors. ::The Ambiance:: The inside of this restaurant is like nothing I've seen before. The steep A-Frame design showcased a beautiful and airy scenery and the stained glass gave a celestial vibe. The patio is overlooking the lake and was very scenic. ::The Service:: From host to waitress, everyone was friendly and attentive. Everyone was on the ball and very personable and warm. ::The Food:: The food and drinks were top-notch. Had the Smokey mezcal drink and strawberry vodka drink and both were superb. The Lebanese chicken wings and the flatbread were extremely flavorful and savory. The highlight was the caviar toast. DAMN!!! Pricey (it's caviar, duh!) but worth every penny. We come out to Chicago/Rosemont area at least once a year, and I will be looking forward to frequenting this establishment again in the future!

Salmon Poke Bowl

My friends and I recently came here for brunch, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the experience. We made a reservation because I'd heard this place can get pretty busy. Although it didn't seem too crowded when we first arrived on a Saturday, it filled up quickly throughout our meal. I definitely recommend making a reservation, especially if you're planning to come for dinner. As soon as we walked in, I was struck by how beautiful the restaurant is. Since the building was once a church, they preserved the stained-glass windows and cathedral ceilings, which give the space so much character. We ended up sitting on the patio because it was a gorgeous day, but I definitely want to come back and dine inside so I can fully appreciate the interior. The patio was modern, spacious, and completely shaded, making it very comfortable. Since it's located right next to the little lake, we also enjoyed a nice breeze throughout our meal. Our waitress was friendly and attentive overall, but there was one moment that stood out. My friend's baby accidentally knocked over a full glass of iced coffee, spilling it all over my friend's lap and onto the floor. The waitress watched as my friend cleaned up the mess herself but didn't offer to help or replace the spilled drink. Aside from that, the service was good. My friends and I all ordered something different, and everyone enjoyed their meals. I had the salmon poke bowl ($19), which was fresh, flavorful, and incredibly refreshing. The ingredients tasted high quality, and all the flavors worked really well together. It was more filling than I was expecting! Price-wise, I expected the menu to be more expensive than it actually was. I'm sure dinner prices are higher, especially for steak and seafood, but the brunch menu was quite reasonable. Most breakfast and brunch dishes range from $12-$20, making it a great value for both the quality of the food and the beautiful atmosphere. Overall, we all enjoyed our experience and I'll for sure be back! I'd love to try other menu items and come for dinner, too!

The restaurant is by a small manmade lake and the building used to be a cathedral. So the architecture is really interesting. There is a nice patio as well. Foodwise is also great. The poke bowl was nice and fresh.

This is a really cute slight upscale place, so I suggest to dress up. The views on the river are incredible and very relaxing. Food menu caters many options, from raw bar, to fried aps, salads, pokes, fish and even steaks . For apps we did oysters and wedge salad. The wedge salad was slightly different on the sauce but surprisingly delicious every bite. The tuna crudo however was the only disappointment of the night . I slightly read the description wrong and had olive aioli which if anyone knows me knows I hate olives . I probably would have enjoyed it if the sauce wasn't made out of klamata olive . The big chicken however was so good! It comes with these Parmesan potatoes that is perfect combo with the chicken. Service was slightly slower, and many times the servers messed up our drinks and food with the other table. But over all the place is very nice and the food is pretty good!

I was so looking forward to dining at this restaurant since I first discovered it in June. I was seated outside with my dog and waited and waited and waited for someone to come to take our order. No one came. I waited 20 minutes and I did that because it was nice out. When I told the girls at the hostess stand they just looked and me and said really. No apology no anything. I'm super disappointed and I will not go back. ‍‍‍

Went here for a birthday dinner and was pleasantly delighted with the food, interior, and service. I really enjoyed the Crispy Duck Risotto. It was delicious and had deep flavors coming from the cherry bordelaise. The Chicken Shawarma Rolls were also tasty with an explosion of flavor within each bite. We had to order an additional roll though as the original serving only had 3 rolls. Our server was kind and gave great recommendations. There was nothing that I didn't like, and it was very satisfying.

The Foxtail on the Lake may be my new favorite restaurant in Chicagoland now after a delicious brunch time meal there. Can't wait to go back but will have to wait awhile since I live in St. Louis but I visit Chicago often and stay in the O'Hare area near thus location. I started with a half portion of the Little Gem salad and was happy that they make half portions of salads available since I didn't want a whole salad. For an entree I ordered the Brick Amish Chicken that was phenomenal and it came soul a roasted potatoes and a tasty and garlicky sauce that tasted incredible. For a dessert I opted for the Strawberry Chocolate Cake that was epic! One of the top desserts of my life and I've had incredible desserts all over the world. It looks like they have a nice selection of cocktails and other drinks but I just had ice tea so will hope to be back for dinner and want to try the paella for a dish next time and a martini. The atmosphere of the old church and the beautiful deck outside were very inviting. I had wonderful and attentive service as well.

Went here to celebrate our family surprise. This place is different and great. Food was great quality, you see the lake and the views are perfect.i love the place, it's obviously a church previously but it was fantastic. Service was also amazing guy recommended options, oysters were great, and desserts were amazing. You have to stop by and reserve to make sure you get a spot! Parking is tough because there are lot of people because of the park by it but it's ok! We found one quickly.

We came for an early dinner on a Saturday, and booked through Resy. When we went there was a good amount of parking in the outside lot. We came 10 minutes earlier than our reservation and were seated right away. The inside is very nicely decorated with art along walls and murals. The beauty of the former church was still present with the stained glass, high ceilings and original lights. The first half of our dinner it was a bit hot and humid in the restaurant but then it seems the air conditioner came on. Our server was helpful and our food came out quickly. We both loved our entrees of the Brick Chicken and The Foxy Chic and we both finished every bite! The dessert of peach sorbet was good but interestingly was crumbly / fell apart when eating it - we didn't think it was worth the $9 price tag. We got two entrees, one drink and one dessert with total around $70 before tip.

What is the price range?Bev F.

What is the brownie or type of brownie they serve for a birthday celebration?

Earlier this summer, it was a large chocolate brownie square, served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top and a big firecracker! Very nice and celebratory.

Are there no steaks on the menu?

They have steak options under their MAIN. They have petite Filet mignon (6 ounce) and a Bone in Ribeye (16 ounce).

Are rsvp required on the patio?

They have lots of tables. I went there without a reservation and requested for a patio table and they were able to provide that to me with a small wait.…

Do I need a reservation for two people? How busy are they on the weekend?

Yes, reservations are required. They are very busy. You could try to sit at the bar without a reservation

What is the dress code here? Casual, Business Casual, Dressy?

Dress to impress. Not formal, but the crowd there is pretty well dressed. For a business event, I would not come as if it were a sports bar or too sloppy, Julie.

I disagree--I am a Chicago boy and it has a big city hidden gem quality about it. In fact, they promote themselves as a speakeasy. Of course you can get any cocktail you want, but my husband and I both opted for a special strawberry cocktail made with Hendrick's gin. It was refreshing, not too sweet, and garnished with a dehydrated lemon slice. Perfect! Our friends both ordered old fashioned cocktails that looked equally as good. It was a Saturday night and this tiny bar was jam-packed. We had to stand, but it was okay because we had only stopped in for one drink before heading to another restaurant for dinner. The bartenders were friendly and efficient. Prices are not inexpensive, but average to what you'd find in a downtown Chicago restaurant. If you''re looking for a cool place to hang in Park Ridge with a craft cocktail and have a small bite (they have a limited food menu, too), Pines Room is the place.

It was a festive and fun and tense night, and I had a blast until things fell apart in the 6th inning. Beacon Tap has a great reputation as a good and long standing local sports bar and it lived up to it. In fact, I learned that on Bears football Sundays, you need to reserve a spot here as it's so packed, you can't just walk in and watch a game. I sat at the bar and ended up having a couple of delectable Maplewood Son of Juice IPA drafts (at a reasonable $7.25 apiece) and had a blast with fellow fans, two of whom were regulars here. Tim was the fine and attentive bartender and he kept the beers flowing and it was a packed bar and dining room as expected. I left after the 6th inning when the game was decided and the Sox eventually lost 9-5. It would have been so cool to celebrate a major sports win in a sports bar along with the comaraderie, something I've never experienced, but alas, it will probably have to be in another life, ugh.
