Ostras is THAT spot. From the moment you walk in, the vibe is on point. Incredible food, fresh sushi, bold flavors, and cocktails that are honestly top tier. The staff made us feel so welcomed and taken care of. Perfect place for dinner, drinks, and a fun night out. 10/10 experience across the board!

Ostras Latin Japanese Oyster Bar is a true gem that recently opened in Des Plaines, IL. From the moment I arrived, I was impressed by the easy parking and immediately captivated by the ambiance and decor. The restaurant is a feast for the eyes, with stunning artwork on every wall. Each room offers a picture-perfect environment, whether it's the enchanting blossom tree, the glowing lit-up tree, or the intricate stenciled white Japanese blossoms on the windows. Every detail has been meticulously thought out, creating a space that is both warm and impressive. The food was just as incredible as the ambiance. Ostras features an extensive oyster selection that will delight any seafood lover, with each variety being incredibly fresh. The chicken skewers were perfectly marinated and juicy, while the shrimp ceviche was bursting with flavor. The elotes were a highlight--so flavorful and comforting--and the burgers were a surprising yet welcome addition to the menu. On opening night, I had the chance to try a variety of dishes, and each one was better than the last. Adding to the lively vibe, they had a DJ for the opening night event, which created a beautiful and intimate dining experience. Ostras is ideal for any occasion, whether you're planning a date night, a celebratory dinner, or just looking for a unique dining experience. I can't wait to return and explore more of the menu! Highly recommend checking out this vibrant new spot. It's a perfect blend of Latin and Japanese flavors, served in a breathtaking setting.

Mixed fajitas - The image shows a sizzling cast iron skillet with a wooden base, filled with beef, grilled chicken, and a variety of vegetables including onions, green onions, and yellow peppers. The dish is garnished with chopped herbs and appears to be part of a Mexican or Tex-Mex meal, served on a dark granite table.

It's never fun to miss a connecting flight and be stuck somewhere overnight due to a delay but that happened to us a few weeks ago. We looked out the hotel window and saw Ostras within walking distance and decided that would be where we had dinner. It turned out to be a very good choice. This Latin-Asian fusion restaurant is almost a hidden jem, attached to a hotel near Chicago O'Hare but once you enter the restaurant, you find yourself in a beautifully decorated and cozy environment. It's a casual restaurant that could easily double as a fine dining establishment with indoor seating and a very nice patio area as well. We were greeted by a lovely live singer on that Friday evening accompanied by a guitarist and singing a mix of Latin and classic songs. The food is very good. It is a wide ranging yet classic menu that includes what you'd expect with items such as tacos, burgers, fajitas, and sushi. The service is also on point with the friendly and attentive servers willing to help with recommendations. The only negative I would give this establishment is the price point. The food is good but the menu is priced considerably higher than it likely should be based on the menu but the portions are good and so is the taste. Definitely recommend if you are in the area or even a local; this place is very worthy of a visit.

A wooden boat-shaped platter holds multiple raw oysters on the half shell, arranged on ice. The platter is garnished with lemon wedges at each end and includes small metal bowls of cocktail sauce. The oysters are set on a dark, polished marble countertop, with a partial view of a computer monitor and a person in the background.

Went here for a friends birthday which was also before a show at AllState. The food and ambiance was so good! The drinks were amazing and the menu had a lot more on it there than online. The service was a little slow but it seemed like the waitress was there by herself and it was pretty busy prior to the show. Would definitely go back. Some standout things we had were the pineapple chicken wings, chicken dumplings and the sushi! All so good. Want to come back to try the oysters.

Came in during work and had some great food. Oysters were fresh and amazing. They also add sauces for the oysters, the chipotle soy was great!. Sushi was also great. They have a great chef making them and the taste is great. Service was excellent, everyone is always willing to help and our bartender did not miss a beat. The ambiance was chill and they have amazing decor.

    Mango Margarita and jalapeño margarita

Went there for Happy Hour on Saturday. Delicious Margaritas. My daughter had Jalapeños margarita and I had Mango. Both were good but Mango margarita was delicious. So for second round we ended up getting Mango margaritas. Food was average. Service was great. Good ambiance. I found out they have salsa lessons on Saturday. Will try that

The image shows two rectangular ceramic plates on a dark granite table. One plate contains three dumplings garnished with microgreens and shredded cabbage, with a small cup of soy sauce. The other plate has several chicken wings coated in a sauce, served with a small cup of dipping sauce. The dishes are presented on shredded cabbage and purple cabbage, highlighting Asian fusion cuisine.

The food was absolutely amazing. The bar was a bit slammed with tickets but the bartender made sure to acknowledge us even tho we waited a bit. Made up for it in MANY ways! Would go back. The place is also very pretty. The wings, short rib tacos, birria tacos and pot stickers were all so good.

Food was amazing, service was great. I definitely recommend Ostras to anyone that wants a good time and great food

Happy hour margarita. - A margarita cocktail in a textured glass filled with ice and a lemon slice garnish on the rim. The drink is on a bar counter with a beige napkin underneath. The background shows a blurred bar area with bottles and bar equipment, indicating a bar or lounge setting.

Excellent food. Had the empanadas, cooked perfectly. Best happy hour in the area! Great prices, cheap drinks and food. Margarita was well balanced and delicious. My bartender Victor was attentive and great at customer service. Atmosphere is great. Nicely setup with separate sections including dining, bar and a sun porch type area on both ends. Will definitely go again when in the area.

When I was a kid I use to go to the Des Plaines Theater & watch movies for 60 cents (ahhh nostalgia trip down memory lane), but I digress The speakeasy inside the Des Plaines Theater is an awesome idea. The show was awesome but the one MAJOR MAJOR issue I have is the bartender who continued to serve my sister's friend. He was obviously very very drunk to a point where he could barely walk wo/stumbling. He was slurring his words. Both my sister & I asked the bartender not to serve him anymore alcohol but she kept serving him drinks even after we asked. She continued to serve him even after we asked her not to. When he and my sister left she told me he tried to put the key in the ignition 14X's before she convinced him to let her drive. Your bartender's need to be aware of a persons level of intoxication. Both my sister & I asked her not to serve him anymore drinks but she continued to serve him. Thank God my sister was able to convince him to let her drive home otherwise what was an excellent evening could have ended tragically. Please have your bartenders be more conscious of a persons level of intoxication. While I gave Bourbon & Brass a 5 star review I need to down grade that for over serving someone alcohol even after both my sister & I asked her to stop serving him

There was a show that evening, when we entered the theater, the usher asked to see our tickets. I asked how to get to the speakeasy and the usher pointed to the elevator, take it to the second floor. Once we got to the second floor, more ushers greeted us and informed us there's a jazz band performing and small cover charge. As soon as we paid and entered through the bookshelf, the room was beautifully arranged as a lounge with fancy and vintage sofas and couches. Kind of reminds me of someone grandma's house. The bar had snacks available, otherwise more drink options. The band played good songs too. Definitely recommend if you're in the area and jazz fan.

He looked up at me, made eye contact & went back to writing. He continued writing (I took this as a challenge & started timing his ignorance). After 10 minutes of patiently waiting for him to come ask if I'd like a drink or food menu, I went up to the bar and asked if he could help me. He asked "what do you want?" "I'm thinking of a drink, since this is a bar, and maybe something to eat if you have a menu." A Woodford old fashioned was $20 - this location doesn't warrant Las Vegas pricing. Service sucks - night 2 was a replay. I watched 2 other groups of customers sit at a table, were ignored and then have to walk up to the bar to order and fetch their drinks.

Well, on the night I was there there was a celebration of "La Quinceanera". What is that, you ask? Ahh, glad you asked as I had to also. La Quinceanera is basically a "coming out" party for a 15 year old girl celebrating in the traditional Mexican way. That would certainly explain all the young people (and I mean young!) sipping soda around the bar all dressed up in their finest. I thought I had walked into the middle of a high school dance. For the few of us at the bar who were over the age of 15, I think the bartenders were relieved to be making real drinks as I think the onslaught of "kiddie cocktails" took them all by surprise! Don't get me wrong. WXYZ bar located on the lobby level of the Loft hotel is a contemporary adult space. There are modern couches and chairs clustered around the fireplace as well as a full sized pool table in the one corner. The small bar located at one end has a light "show" that is constantly changing that I found more distracting than engaging. My favorite thing were the bar napkins that had word search puzzles on them- perfect if you are sitting by yourself. This area opens up to an outdoor pool, so I can only bet how lively and fun this area could be in the Summer months. A downside? The parking situation here is a bit of a maze. They block off the few parking spots in front of the hotel for the hotel van and expect you to park in the large parking garage shared with the Muvico theater. All fine and good except the parking garage is expensive (don't forget to get your ticket validated) and it's a bit of a walk if you end up in the wrong section. Follow the signs to "general parking" and park as far south as you can and you should be okay. If you go the wrong way- you will have to circle past the hotel and try the whole parking thing again. Not a bad spot if you just want to grab a drink while waiting for someone's plane to come in at O'Hare or to grab a drink after a movie at Muvico. And hopefully on the night you go- the average age will not hover in those awkward teenage years!

Since we were in Chicago, I took my boss and coworker to the Tiki TIki next door for a shot of Malort. It's Chicago, after all. 1 shot became 2, 2 became 4, and before I knew it, the bartender was ushering us through the swinging door into Pete's once they opened. Fun fact: we were the first ones in and also shut the bar down. From the moment the pianists started, it was clear this place was on point. Even them doing introductions and giving the ground rules was done musically. All four singers were wicked talented, and rotated in and out through the night. On occasion, they came together and became a full on quartet playing instruments other than pianos. Vocals were amazing, the energy in the place was such that I didn't even realize the time until they did last call and the lights came up. The layout of Pete's lends itself to entertainment. Regardless of what table you are at, you have a great view of the stage and no one has their back to the performance. The atmosphere is covered with fun and bright signs all over and despite being a larger place, it feels intimate when your song is played and everyone sings along. The table service was also great. She never hovered, but we also never lacked a drink. The next best thing about this place, after the performers, is the level of crowd interaction. There were folks singing along to every single song, and at times it was the whole bar. A couple of times during the night, folks were running around the bar riding a horse's head (or maybe a unicorn) on a stick. Somehow, it all just made sense. Pete's turned what could have been another boring end of a work trip sitting in the hotel into a night full of laughs, shots, and having a hoarse voice for days.

They also offer a few lemonade options; I tried the passion fruit lemonade and it was refreshing without being overly sweet. Price-wise, it's slightly higher than I expected: about $17 for a bowl with no premium add-ons and a small drink. But the upside is you're getting a relatively healthy, customizable meal that doesn't leave you feeling weighed down. Overall, a solid choice near the airport if you want something quick, fresh, and moderately healthy. Especially if you're not starving but want better-than-fast-food quality.

And visually? They deliver. The space is bright, modern, and gives fresh lifestyle energy. You walk in thinking you're about to make a smart, feel-good food choice. But here's where things shifted... I arrived about 40 minutes before closing, and unfortunately, the food reflected that timing. My bowl--while generously portioned--lacked that just-made freshness you expect from a concept like this. The steak tasted like it had been sitting for a while, the vegetables were more soft than crisp, and the overall bowl didn't have that hot, vibrant, made-to-order feel. It felt more like end-of-day service than a fresh build experience. The energy at the counter also felt a bit checked out--like the night was already winding down. To be fair: * The concept is strong * The customization is appealing * The branding is on point But when your entire identity is built around "eat well, be well," freshness isn't optional--it's the standard. Would I return? Probably not. Not when the core promise didn't deliver. Final Take: If you're curious, go earlier in the day. This feels like a place where timing could completely change the experience. How did we get here? To a wellness-driven brand... that missed the mark on freshness when it mattered most.
