This was a cool little sports bar I came in during my Chicago trip. Southern / Texas themed, it is located in the "restaurant row" near the Hilton I stayed. I came in for an early lunch, so it was kind of quiet. Coming after my meeting to recover from the business part of my trip, I had a couple of rounds of their Hop City beer, along a pulled pork sandwich and waffle fries. The meat was one seasoned and the barbecue sauce those sweet, had enough of a spicy kick. I'm leaving at three stars, not because it was bad, but rather tagging it with a placeholder list. We had a little girls' dinner at Bub City on a Monday night. It was filled to the brim with an older crowd, mostly men, but we were able to be squeezed into a table. I had no idea it would be so crowded! Our server was super sweet, and food and drinks both came out fast. My patty melt & tater tots were fantastic. Some of the highlights of the meal, the brussels sprouts the mac & cheese, the Caesar salad and the meat platter. IDGAF what anybody has to say this was the best beef brisket I had in a long time! That meat literally melted in my mouth such a good flavor and portion was perfect! Priced decent and their fried Brussel sprouts hit the spot! Food so good it put me in a good mood! I ordered via door dash and food was still hot when it arrived. I was sad to see they didn't put any extra barbecue sauce but once I bit into the sandwich I quickly realized I didn't need it. We love Bub City here. I've been countless times, ordered to go, ordered catering. Done it all. It hits every single time. If you're a whiskey fan, you're bound to find something you like or something you haven't tried at Bub. The selection is honestly staggering. They always have multiple store picks available. This visit I had an old forester single barrel that was ridiculously good. They also carry bottles to go of their store picks and other options. When I visited there was some realllly solid bottles available, albeit at a bit of a premium mark up, but considering they are store picks there is a bit more for your money. Now on the food side. Brisket is great. Lean cuts are very very good. Pork is a step above your average bbq pulled pork. Smoked wings are really good and haven't had anything like them anywhere else, although they have shrank in size over the years. Nashville tenders are a must order. Their waffle fries absolutely smash. Heck, even the Brussels sprouts are good. You can't go wrong. They used to have smoked sausage that was sooooo good. Hope they put it back on the menu sometime. They also have live music occasionally so a plus there. Service has never been an issue, always super friendly. We had a large group of 40 that Bub City was able to accommodate with a reservation (made several weeks before). The staff were all so kind and accommodating, helping us to feel welcome at the bar as we waited for our reserved tables to open up at the scheduled time. They had a special group menu and I must say, they know how to do cornbread here! I kept reaching for more! I enjoyed the beef brisket quite a bit (so tender and juicy!). The turkey was a little on the dry side for me, but the seasoning was good! The restaurant was open to the outside and at one point there was a large amount of noise that sounded like fireworks right outside-- it made it hard to hear conversation but thankfully it didn't last for too long. This is a jumping restaurant in a lively area. I went during a Thursday night when there is live music on the green area. We had reservations, so no waiting. Food was delicious. Fried pickles came out hot and tasted great. For my entree had a brisket patty melt that was good. I would order it again. Service was meh. We stopped in as a last minute decision. Very child friendly with high chairs ready. They were only seating inside when we visited so I'm not sure about outdoors with high chairs. My husband is a bit of a bbq snob being from Kansas City and he approved the brisket. They were out of burnt ends so can't speak to those. Our server was very friendly as well! I always liked Bub City in Chicago, and I figured this would be similar. It has been a while since I've been to that location, so who knows, maybe the Chicago one has also gone downhill? The atmosphere is very cool; like the Chicago outpost, they also have a huge American flag at one of the bars, made entirely of different-colored beer cans. If you like football, it will be on, but thankfully nothing is so loud earlier in the evening where you can't hear each other. The food itself was not as good as I'd hoped. I tried a bit of the chili (small bowl) and enjoyed it. The cheese had congealed a bit - maybe it was waiting to be picked up. The salad I got was fine, but nothing more, and a bit disappointing given what I expected. There wasn't much to it, in terms of ingredients, and the avocado was pretty hard and unripe. The side of chicken was $6 and served disappointingly in a disposable paper dish, overall pretty bland and flabby-looking. There were some red/pink spots, which I've seen in chicken and aren't unsafe, just unappetizing. I was glad to have arugula, but it got drowned out by the lime vinaigrette. I don't think they need the chipotle ranch on the side (as tasty as it is) if they already have a vinaigrette. I'd offer one or the other. The drinks were solid and not super strong, which some dislike, but I appreciate. The strawberry margarita spritz was great, and my driving friend liked the non-alcoholic beer selection. Special shoutout to our server, who was so sweet. I didn't get her name (d'oh) but she was so approachable and friendly. We stayed for a while and there was no sense of being rushed. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't particularly memorable either. The bigger disappointment was the service. Our server took our order and then didn't check back until we were about three-quarters of the way through our meal. There was no salt or pepper on the table, and I would have liked some mustard for my sandwich, but by the time the server returned, it hardly seemed worth asking. I was here as part of a work function. Several people who have been part of this conference in the past told me this is definitely one of the big highlights of the week. Now I understand why - really fun atmosphere, big, big, big two floors, great live music. The food was presented as a buffet, and I think I took two passes at everything. It was all very good. Service was excellent. There is a quiet side to the restaurant. I mean relative to the side where the live music is. So if you do need to talk to somebody, just go over on that side. We had a reservation- there were plenty of seats open on a Saturday night. That should be our first clue! We sat near the front and was so excited. We sat for about 15 min before our server came. When she did come over, she kept whispering instead of talking, almost purposely acting as if she knew we couldn't hear her and we had to keep asking her to speak up. Like some weird power trip. She kept looking around us, but never looking directly at us. She was not there mentally. It was sooo awkward., The place is extremely loud. Even asking her to speak up knowing how loud it was, not once did she attempt to speak normally so we could hear. It was like watching a rude teenager trying to be passive aggressive and an entitled influencer. Same attitude, same eye roll. She first said she needed to go back to the back "and take care of some issues". Why would you say that vague sentence to a guest whose been sitting for 20 min with nothing to drink? Huh? So you make us wait that long just to greet us and not even say your name or take our drink order? My husband is extremely patient- it takes a lot for him to lose it. He too noticed her leaving and never coming back. We had to ask somebody else just to get some appetizers. Everybody who works at the Risemont location is asleep. No joke. No smiles, no friendliness. Just transactional sleepiness. . We ordered apps and they came within 2 minutes. No joke. We were starving, so we were hella excited. The fried pickles and the cornbread. The fried pickles are NOT dill pickles which was highly disappointing, I always forget that pickles aren't always dill. Makes no sense. . They were so hot and soggy that we took one bite and said no thanks". But we left them and didn't ask for them to take it off the bill. She could see we didn't eat them and even said they tasted weird. But no response. Still got charged for it. We had to track her down just to order our food. Once again, no eye contact. She spoke so softly and quietly we had no idea what she was saying. My husband kept saying "let's give her a few more chances, I bet she will turn out nicely. We ordered our food and it took 30 min at least before a manager delivered our food. The food was COLD. It had a gross visible film all over it. I thought maybe my eyes were deceiving me. We were seated next to the stage--they have live music on the weekends. There is a lot of seating and the place was pretty full on a Monday night. A very energetic and loud crowd, if you like that, and excellent service. Our waitress was right on time--attentive enough to and helpful, without hovering--5 star service! We ordered two appetizers to share--the bacon tater tots and the bbq brisket nachos. The highlight of the tots is that they weren't soggy : ) Now the brisket nachos? My friend and I came here on New Year's Eve before a concert next-door at Joe's Live. We had been snacking earlier so decided to split the brisket platter that came with coleslaw and Texas toast. We ordered a side of brussels sprouts as well. Tasty brisket and very yummy brussels sprouts. My friend says she liked the coleslaw, but I don't touch it personally. A bit loud of a place but it's expansive and we had no trouble talking to each other. Service was speedy and a great location for our New Year's Eve stay. Having already sampled a selection of Bub's wares (see previous Yelp below), I was fairly certain our visit to the restaurant proper would be good eats, and I'm happy to say it was. We were there on a midweek afternoon and the place was basically empty, but the server was ebullient. It's a big room decorated as you'd think a Q palace would be-L.E.Y. is good for that. We were in a big circular booth that was comfortable. The server said it's a zoo on the weekends and I believe it. As usual, we over-ordered as we wanted to see if the earlier taste was a tease or a fluke. Ribs, brisket, pulled pork, chicken fingers, coleslaw and tatertots. A trencherman's feast if ever there was one. Well. It all was approaching superb. (that's not a slight-I'll save the "superb" for places like the Germantown Commissary in Memphis and the Sonny's chain down south-hence the 4 star). The proteins were all yummy, not oversmoked, and just fatty enough. Believe it or not, the ChickenFingers were the big surprise for me. I've rambled on in other Yelps how I believe "Boneless, Skinless, Chicken Breast" is food for people who don't like to eat; and "ChickenFingers" are the usual delivery method for such cuts. Usually dry and tasteless. Not here. These Fingers were Dolly Parton, if you get my drift, and I'll get censored and lose my Elite badge if I further describe their juiciness and tenderness in that manner. Every theory has a corollary, bubba. The smoked stuff was all delicious. REAL close to southern Q nirvana. I don't like my Q sauced in the kitchen, preferring to add it at the table. The sauces here were great for an occasional squirt-but mostly the meat was so good it didn't need it. The onliest gripe was the accompanying grilled bread which looked fab but didn't have the flavor to match. We took a shopping bag of leftovers with us. Nice big Beverage glasses too-the IcedTea was great. Must mention the spectacular array of booze on the tandem bars lining the North and South walls. (including a Pappy sighting-be still my beating heart). As it was weekday mid-day, I was dry on this visit, but I'll sample some spirits during the next visit. Be prepared for some sticker shock. We had a reservation at Bob City for 7:00 PM. Because a convention had just let out near Rosemont, traffic was terrible and we were running behind. We did the responsible thing and called ahead to let them know. We were told they could only hold our reservation until 7:15 PM or they would give the table away. My family rushed to get there, and we arrived at 7:07 PM -- well before their cutoff time. However, after rushing to make it on time, we then sat waiting until 7:35 PM without being called or updated about our table. As I was about to go ask what was happening with our reservation, my son came rushing in to tell me that my 75-year-old mother-in-law had fallen outside the restaurant. I ran outside and found her lying on the ground surrounded by people, with blood on her face. Paramedics were called, and although she refused to be taken to the hospital, it was obviously a very upsetting situation for our family. At that point, we decided we were no longer staying for dinner. We went back inside to explain the situation, cancel the reservation, and simply ask if we could order a half slab of ribs to take home for my daughter, since that was the main reason we had gone there. The staff told us canceling the reservation was "no problem," but then informed us the ribs would take about an hour for carryout. I was honestly shocked by the lack of compassion and urgency, especially knowing that my elderly mother-in-law was sitting outside injured and covered in blood. There was no effort to accommodate us or show any empathy during a very stressful moment. Overall, this was an extremely poor experience from start to finish, and unfortunately, I do not feel comfortable returning. read more

No soap in the bathrooms. Feels like theyre cutting every corner possible. Other people must be catching on too, lots of empty tables for a Friday evening.
