Duck spring rolls and the short rib pho is phenomenal. Food is always consistently delicious. Even more inviting is the service which always is warm and inviting and the team makes you feel like you're truly eating at a friend or family member's home. I love this restaurant. Cool place that could be the best stall in the French Market. It's certainly not the cheapest though. Saigon Sisters has the street style Vietnamese. Banh mi and other handhelds. The prices are kind of high for the portions, but not unusual for stuff in the rest of the market it seems. After getting here before our train, we came here to eat. It's one of the places that opens pretty early, so it's good if getting something for later. This is one of the stalls friendly for vegetarians. Okay prices on most items. There's a pretty good variety. Each of us got the Tofu Banh Mi. It's about $10 for a sandwich. Crispy bread but that changed fast. Kind of small but it was okay. This came with cilantro, cucumbers, daikon, jalapeños, red peppers, and sesame seeds. Had a bit of a spice to it. This certainly wasn't the best banh mi. Kind of soggy bun made it a bit of a bummer. The price made it seem worse to be real about it. Basically it's an okay stop if you need a quick bite. It's still not giving you what you pay for. The food from this place isn't the best and for the price you may not like it, but there's good things such as the spice though. read more

I came to the French Market location of this restaurant during lunch. I ordered the stir fry noodle bowl with curry chicken. Unfortunately I did not enjoy this meal. The noodles were extremely sweet and the chicken was dry. I was expecting the curry chicken to have curry sauce. Nor was there an immense amount of flavor you would expect in a curry dish. The service was below average. I was not greeted when I stepped up to the counter. Instead the woman just stared at me until I indicated what I wanted. It is a decent size lunch portion and has a nice presentation but unfortunately was not appetizing. read more

Wish I could give 0 zeros. Their vegetarian option was not substantial. Mostly rice with a little bit of tofu. I should have known when it came out in under 45 seconds. When I asked to exchange for a bahn mi, they refused to exchange and were very rude when I asked. That's a bummer too because I've gone here over the years and raved about the pho to people. I will be telling everyone to avoid this place now. read more

Don't eat here. I went to the one at French Market. Service = terrible. She took my order but didn't understand me... I can understand language barriers but I don't understand rude. She just disregarded anything I said with a mean attitude. I am not even entitled with customer service but she was just simply harsh and didn't care what you said. Maybe find someone who is a bit more patient and nice and who speaks English fluently for orders? I got my vegetarian $7 rice vermicelli noodle and was starving afterwards. It came with a sliver of rice noodles and a small number of veges. It was in a small flat plastic container and I definitely was not happy with starving after the meal. casual and cute little restaurant with a good amount of seating. workers are quick to greet and serve you once you walk in. got the porky banh mi and viet iced coffee. this was one of the stronger coffees I've had, and it was really refreshing. unfortunately the banh mi was not as great, and was a little small. the sauces were very tasty, but the pork got kind of lost in everything. mayo added a great touch to the sandwich and the bread was soft and fresh. read more

The worst Vietnamese meal I've ever had. I ordered the "caramelized" shrimp bowl and was wholly disappointed. It came with five sad shrimp in a sweet watery sauce. The portion was miniscule. One of the shrimp was cold in the middle. The French Market has way better food than this. Stay away. Seriously. read more

Visited the French Market hoping to find some gems. Always love a good banh mi as they are hard to find. Had a craving for curry as well so ordered the curry chicken banh mi trying to kill two birds with one stone. Not bad but underwhelming. Was hoping the bread would make be spot on being there early in the day around 10:30am before the lunch rush but it was average. Not as airy and light as I had hoped. Crust was flaky and crisp but I've had better. Filling itself on the lighter side. The pickled carrots and daikon are shaved I think for a quick pickling - I'm a fan when they are thin cut so they provide a crunch factor as well. Solid effort but I'd want more attention to detail for that price. read more

Vietnamese food isn't supposed to be bland and man is my rice bowl tasteless. It's a shame because there are a lot of good reviews and I was excited to have a quick Vietnamese place near work for lunch. However, plain white rice with some plain tofu and veggies on top is just not what I was expecting. This is not flavor town. read more

I remember seeing Saigon Sisters in the French Market for the first time and beeing so excited. If you feel kind of done with fast food, remember, savory, sweet, spicy, and fresh veggie Vietnamese flavor combos are available. Just bob and weave your way through the lunch crowd and grab some bánh bao or maybe order a bowl your way. For a place that has to deal with sudden lines, they move pretty fast considering what you will be eating. Everything is pretty decent. I love the minty shrimp spring rolls. I've had better pho but it serves a necessary, warming, revitalizing purpose during Chi town winters so I'll undoubtedly get it again. Remember, its take out pho. Tired of the same ol sammys, they have interesting bánh mì flavors. I've only had Classic and Porky so far. Not bad. I will be trying the curry chicken and bbq jackfruit soon. Buns, bowls, spring rolls are my usuals. Glad this place is here. read more

Overall It's a pretty good place to get a light lunch. Safe bet lunch place Service - A Quickly took my order and quickly got the food out. Nice and friendly. Quality - B+ The Banh Mi sandwich I got was good. But lacking a bit of flavor - was expecting more. Value - B $10 for a sandwich that had a bit too much bread. Ran out of of meat. I love getting Banh Mi from Saigon Sisters, they are fresh, delicious, and relatively affordable considering where you are purchasing it (The French Market in the city). I became infatuated with Bahn Mi several years ago, and unfortunately there aren't any places that I have found near me. More than once I have asked my partner to pick me up a couple on the way home from the city. They travel well, and have been just as delicious when they arrived home as they have been when I have gotten them fresh from the market. The search continues for Banh Mi near me. read more

What a treat this place is. I had the Pad se ew with chicken. The chicken was roasted well with lots of flavor on its own. The Pad had a unique flavor that was just right for the dish and not to much. I also enjoyed the fried rolls as an appetizer. The atmosphere was pleasant and the staff was wonderful. I would add the place and food successfully married a down-home mom and pop restaurant and high end vibe. Will be going back for more whenever I can. P.S. Dan, the Banana cake was SOOO good. read more

Very underwhelming pho. The flavor seems a little bit off and not as full as I would like. Meat was ok, a little tough. For some reason in my bowl the noodle to soup ratio also seemed quite a bit off and I got a lot more soup than noodle (I like soup but compared to other pho places it was a substantial difference). Was really craving pho and was quite disappointed. read more

Their services bumps them to five stars all the way. Was looking for a place to eat after the French Market closed and they kindly offered to make something for me. I had their beef bahn mi which in cold, rainy weather really hit the spot. Beef was juicy and well seasoned and bahn mi generously filled with jalapeño, carrots (insert bahn mi fillings). Not sure why all the negative reviews but this place was a five in terms of flavor, price and service. Excited to try their pho next!! read more

If I had no other reason to come in to the city, I would easily hop on the Metra to just nosh on one of these bahn mi sandwiches in the Chicago French Market at Saigon Sisters. Ordered the Piggy....I don't know what kind of sauces they use to cook the meat but if it was made into a lollipop, one could just lick that and be happy. The bread that is used for the delivery of goods into your mouth is perfect. It's strong enough even with the juicy contents but perfectly soft when chomped down on. The Piggy was sadly over before I knew what happened. I got lost in bahn mi heaven. If I had know how awesome this would be...well I would have turned into a piggy and ordered one for the train ride home...but sigh...I had 3 minutes run up stairs and leap on my train. As I sat down in my seat, my eyes lit up when I peered in some of my bags that contained the bounty of a day in the city....behold...spicy shrimp chips. Saigon Sisters sell these 'chips' at the counter and I forgot I purchased a bag. They melt in your mouth as soon as they hit your tongue. Don't be scared! read more

Counter Service. Delicious, fresh, original SPICY SHRIMP CRACKER. Addictive. Tastier than Others or what we are used to. Impressive amount of pork in PORKY BAHN MI. A definite satisfying meal for less than $10. The lesser priced Bahn Mi's only have 1/4 of meat and you have to travel far. The only WAGYU BEEF option in Chicago! Tender. Prepared well. The STIR FRY NOODLES were okay -- flavor can get monotonous without the jalapeños. Balance amount of ingredients. Add-ins can get expensive. read more

Solid C+ tofu banhmi. Should have had more flavor, but ingredients seemed fresh. Service/friendliness was marginal.

We were in the French Market and this was one of the places that I've been wanting to try for a while. We got the Porky (Pork Belly Banh Mi). It was a good size and under $10 so not a bad value. I'm sure you could probably get cheaper Banh Mi's elsewhere in the city though. The sandwich itself had relatively good flavors but was unlike other, more traditional Banh Mi's I've had in the past. It was also very saucy. The reason for the two star review is that the smell of the sandwich was very off putting. I actually couldn't finish it all because it smelled so weird. I don't know if it was because the meat was left out too long (the sandwich came out suspiciously fast) or for some other reason, but it definitely smelled off. I've had other Banh Mi's that didn't smell anything like this. Overall - I would say there are so many other (and better) options in the French Market. Choose one of those instead. read more

Lunch at the French Market. Met up with a buddy for lunch and after kicking around the idea of where we'd go, we settled on Saigon Sisters. They've got a few different options from soups to rice bowls. We were all about the banh mi. Porky, the pork belly one, for me and the VBQ-Vietnamese BBQ, for him. Hold the mayo. Seems like most of them come with mayo on them. So, if that's not your thing let them know. Fresh and chewy french rolls and a tasty sandwich. The jalapenos added a nice kick, though it was only on the last few bites that it dawned on me how much a nice dousing of Siracha would have added. I don't remember seeing any kind of fixing station, so that oversight is on me. I'm sure they've got a bottle sitting around somewhere. Next time hook me up with the spicy. Pretty good sandwich, but a tad steep at about $8. read more

Bought the lemongrass curry chicken sandwich from the location at the French Market in the Ogilvie Transportation center. Decent sized sandwich, priced a little higher bc its in the french market, would probably be a couple bucks less at a regular storefront. Overall, food sandwiches! read more

I've been wanting to try this place for a while. Random thought: Yelp should send out notification reminders for the places you bookmark. Like, "HEY! You said you were going here and it's been like 3 years and you haven't yet so go already!" I succumbed to impulse food buying, I won't deny it. I was walking around in the French Market around 3:20ish on a Wednesday and was just amazed that it was completely empty. If you've been here in the morning or around lunch time you know it gets so incredibly packed that there's hardly any room to stand in, much less finding a place to sit. So when I came in and saw it empty, I made a beeline to Saigon Sisters, a place I've had bookmarked for a while and ordered the classic banh mi. The sandwich itself was tasty, but it did not remind me of a banh mi. It actually had a lot more meat than I usually get in a banh mi but it lacked that flavor that is often associated with the popular Vietnamese sandwich. I think the problem for me was that the sandwich wasn't balanced enough. It was a really good ham sandwich with pickled radishes basically. It didn't have enough pate, cilantro, jalapenos or that savory taste. Also, the bread so so crusty it felt like I swished around some gravel in my mouth. The roof of my mouth was destroyed. It was a good basic sandwich, but not for $8. Again, it was a bad impulse buy. For $8 back home, you could get 3 banh mi's, get two free, and have the restaurant owner's grandmother come to your house to feed it to you. read more

Its been over four years since I've had a banh mi so I was really excited to try one of the sandwiches at Saigon Sisters. I ordered the "porky" because lets face it, little piggies taste so good! The french roll was excellent. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. The pork was tender, but when I took it apart, it was very fatty, as in strips of fat between the meat. I prefer the fat in my pork to be incorporated into the meat so I feel a little less guilty about eating it (reasons why I dont eat bacon). When I saw all the fat, I totally lost my appetite! Overall the sandwich did not have much flavor. The radishes and other fixins werent very vinegary like I'm used to. It just didnt taste like the ones I've had back at home (in San Francisco) which in my opinion were a little more authentic. I know someone who tried the duck sandwich and she said it was only ok. The talapia special got rave reviews though. The prices were a bit much for the sandwiches. Back at home it costs $3-4. Not $7+. I guess its just the price you pay for something located downtown. I'm happy there is a Vietnamese shop in the downtown area though! I would be willing to go back and try a different sandwich. read more

After making a loop of the French Market it was this Vietnamese sandwich booth that tempted my boyfriend and me to stop for lunch. Big banh mi sandwiches stuffed with a variety of flavors beckoned us, as did the friendly service. I got the Hen House ("caramelized chicken, lemongrass, ginger, mint, lime, crushed peanuts" -- a nice amalgam of flavors); he got the Suntanned Cow ("coconut milk braised beef, kaffir lime leaf"). Both were contained within hearty, crusty torpedo rolls: a nice choice, to hold in all that goodness. My sandwich also contained some kind of mayo-y sauce, peppers (jalapeno?) and a lot of cilantro; I didn't know that these items would be on there or I would have asked for no cilantro, but it was easy enough to get off the top (and the young man was happy to appropriate it for his sandwich). Overall, a good choice; the chicken tasted like it might have been hanging around for a while but the "caramelized" aspect made up for it. The boy also liked his; neither of us had trouble polishing them off. Saigon Sisters had a nice array of beverages on offer, from San Pellegrino Aranciata to Coconut Water to Argo iced teas. Aside from the sandwiches, edibles included pho (beef and vegetarian) and lettuce rolls. A unique dining choice in the French Market; more banh mi for me, please! read more

I have picked up Saigon Sisters a number of times from their French Market location. I usually get the hen house which is pretty tasty and a little spicy. However, on a few occasions, the chicken has been very fatty and not great. They have very fast service and a number of menu items, so it appeals to all tastes. They also make sure to ask if peanuts are ok as well as spice level on each order. Friendly and tasty, but somewhat inconsistent on the orders. read more

My first meat at this nice French Market. I tried the Pho noodle. Pretty decent. Then saw the raving review on the sandwiches. So I made my second trip to just try that. you know what, I will stick with my Pho. I'm biased on a bowl of noodle soup vs a sandwich especially when the prices are the same at $8 something. Did I have better pho than here? Yes, I did. But within 5 minutes walking from my office, I am pretty happy with this decent pho noodle soup. The portion was just nice. The noodle was cooked right. The broth was tasty but a bit on the salty side. A very comforting food on a snowy day. The Porky sandwich was a bit too Porky to me which could be others favorite part. Fresh Jalapeno and cilantro were my favorite. Meat was just greasy for me. The service was fast and friendly. Will stop more for the pho soup for sure. read more

I stumbled upon these sammiches on the way to the bathroom at work. Apparently these were leftover from a meeting that was catered. Would this stop me from trying my first ever Vietnamese sandwich? Me thinks not! Since Saigon Sisters is right near where I work, I've had mixed connotations of the place. The line is always long, which sounds awesome, but every time this one girl gets a sandwich from there, it stinks up the entire office. These sammiches did not smell, so I'm not sure which one this girl got that cleared the room quicker than Justin Bieber at a nightclub. There were a few different sandwiches to choose from -- chicken, duck, or BBQ pork. They appear to be similar in terms of what they put on them -- meat, some white sauce, fresh cilantro and carrots/onions. I decided on the chicken. The sandwich was one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. The chicken was tender, the sauce was awesome, and the fresh cilantro gave the sandwich a unique but awesome flavor. I'm salvating just writing about it. Again, this is my first ever Viet sammich, so I don't have any other Vietnamese sandwich to compare it to, but for my first experience, it was terrific! read more
