I got the classic banh mi and a bag bun with the BBQ jackfruit. The banh mi was great. I hadn't had one before, so can't really compare, but I enjoyed it a lot. The bao bun was alright, but the BBQ flavor sort of overwhelmed everything else inside

Wish I could give 0 zeros. Their vegetarian option was not substantial. Mostly rice with a little bit of tofu. I should have known when it came out in under 45 seconds. When I asked to exchange for a bahn mi, they refused to exchange and were very rude when I asked. That's a bummer too because I've gone here over the years and raved about the pho to people. I will be telling everyone to avoid this place now.

Cool place that could be the best stall in the French Market. It's certainly not the cheapest though. Saigon Sisters has the street style Vietnamese. Banh mi and other handhelds. The prices are kind of high for the portions, but not unusual for stuff in the rest of the market it seems. After getting here before our train, we came here to eat. It's one of the places that opens pretty early, so it's good if getting something for later. This is one of the stalls friendly for vegetarians. Okay prices on most items. There's a pretty good variety. Each of us got the Tofu Banh Mi. It's about $10 for a sandwich. Crispy bread but that changed fast. Kind of small but it was okay. This came with cilantro, cucumbers, daikon, jalapeños, red peppers, and sesame seeds. Had a bit of a spice to it. This certainly wasn't the best banh mi. Kind of soggy bun made it a bit of a bummer. The price made it seem worse to be real about it. Basically it's an okay stop if you need a quick bite. It's still not giving you what you pay for. The food from this place isn't the best and for the price you may not like it, but there's good things such as the spice though.

Just Stir Fry Noodles Chicken Curry

I came to the French Market location of this restaurant during lunch. I ordered the stir fry noodle bowl with curry chicken. Unfortunately I did not enjoy this meal. The noodles were extremely sweet and the chicken was dry. I was expecting the curry chicken to have curry sauce. Nor was there an immense amount of flavor you would expect in a curry dish. The service was below average. I was not greeted when I stepped up to the counter. Instead the woman just stared at me until I indicated what I wanted. It is a decent size lunch portion and has a nice presentation but unfortunately was not appetizing.

Don't eat here. I went to the one at French Market. Service = terrible. She took my order but didn't understand me... I can understand language barriers but I don't understand rude. She just disregarded anything I said with a mean attitude. I am not even entitled with customer service but she was just simply harsh and didn't care what you said. Maybe find someone who is a bit more patient and nice and who speaks English fluently for orders? I got my vegetarian $7 rice vermicelli noodle and was starving afterwards. It came with a sliver of rice noodles and a small number of veges. It was in a small flat plastic container and I definitely was not happy with starving after the meal. Maybe the physical restaurant is better?

Really fast preparation for a delicious sandwich! Dark meat chicken and a lovely yellow curry sauce on a soft baguette. Would recommend! Convenient spot for food before or after taking Metra.

Banh Mi - Curry Chicken

Visited the French Market hoping to find some gems. Always love a good banh mi as they are hard to find. Had a craving for curry as well so ordered the curry chicken banh mi trying to kill two birds with one stone. Not bad but underwhelming. Was hoping the bread would make be spot on being there early in the day around 10:30am before the lunch rush but it was average. Not as airy and light as I had hoped. Crust was flaky and crisp but I've had better. Filling itself on the lighter side. The pickled carrots and daikon are shaved I think for a quick pickling - I'm a fan when they are thin cut so they provide a crunch factor as well. Solid effort but I'd want more attention to detail for that price.

The Porky

I remember seeing Saigon Sisters in the French Market for the first time and beeing so excited. If you feel kind of done with fast food, remember, savory, sweet, spicy, and fresh veggie Vietnamese flavor combos are available. Just bob and weave your way through the lunch crowd and grab some bánh bao or maybe order a bowl your way. For a place that has to deal with sudden lines, they move pretty fast considering what you will be eating. Everything is pretty decent. I love the minty shrimp spring rolls. I've had better pho but it serves a necessary, warming, revitalizing purpose during Chi town winters so I'll undoubtedly get it again. Remember, its take out pho. Tired of the same ol sammys, they have interesting bánh mì flavors. I've only had Classic and Porky so far. Not bad. I will be trying the curry chicken and bbq jackfruit soon. Buns, bowls, spring rolls are my usuals. Glad this place is here.

Shrimp chips. Watch out for seasoning - very spicy if you don't like lots of spice don't get them. If you like spice go for it

Tried the rice vermicelli noodles with tofu. The tofu was good however the salad had little lettuce and little noodles. Too many pickled vegetables which over powered the salad. Nuoc Cham dressing was decent. The shrimp chips were good but the spice they put on was very spicy.

We started with the wagyu appetizer which came with a chili lime salt dipping sauce which paired nicely. The fluke was really flakey and crispy on the outside. It paired well with the nuoc mam sauce. It was pretty pricey tho with the lowest market price being $75. I don't think I'd get it again but a good thing to try once. The bun cha Hanoi was another hit. Delicious pork patties but the spring rolls were especially good. The crab fried rice had good pieces of crab and had a kick. Overall, a very cute spot in Chicago with good food and service.

Crispy chicken wings with caramelized fish sauce sounded adventurous but tasted familiar. These were definitely good but they're not mind blowing so I would probably skip them to try other things if you're on the fence. Oysters were so delicious but I hardly ever think they're not. Wagyu with lemongrass and a chili sea salt was simple but tasty. The grilled eggplant was yummy, paired with pickled shallots, fried garlic, and scallions. Definitely a good one for eggplant lovers like me. The veggie curry was good but probably the least favored of everything we had and couldn't finish it. But we made room for a little dessert! We went with the whipped rice pudding but had it without peanuts because I'm allergic. We didn't really enjoy it much. It was kind of bland and I'm guessing it might be because we omitted the nuts. It was sad to finish on a weak note.

Seeing as we once lived together on a Clark Street, why not dinner on this N Clark St? Following my clinical parallel park job, we entered this theatre of dreams. I'll recognize upfront my bias for sloped ceilings, but this spot ticks that interior box. Sierra Mist colored lighting to make the drinks hit harder and fake skylights that unironically went crazy. Not to mention, this Croatian meets Vietnamese love story was jamming Americana all night long. Soon enough I was white-knuckling the table to keep my cool as the medley proved to be somewhere between erotic and nostalgic. One could rescue a newborn from a burning building and it would pail in comparison to the respect our waitress lavished onto us. Reason being, this lovely lady spent the entire night responding with "yes chef" to any of our interactions. In all fairness, it's understandable to assume our party of mustached men were chefs. Heck, one of us got a diet cola, isn't that a tell too? I say all this to make known the cult status that woman will have in my heart till I breathe my last breath. As for the menu, what a divine collaboration. Sequestered into some back pages lay a section for Balkan fare that served as a platform for the married-in man to showcase his swagger. Truth be told it's this food selection that brought me in and that red pepper spread that makes me stay. This skilled in-law got even more time to shine on the beer list, with my dark Bosnian beer showing every reason why. Tasty lil thing. All things considered, this is still a Vietnamese restaurant. Pho did its thing and embraced the mega serving size stereotype it so firmly holds, but it cannot sit in the poll position here. Brian, my dear friend, voiced that his girlfriend swears by Sunset's crispy noodle. Well folks, Tessa certainly knows ball! While still respectfully conversing through our meal, Brian joined the clean plate club alarmingly fast. Based on my swapski sampling of his platter I can understand why. Clear betting favorite, certified hustler, it's what to get y'all. As we wrapped our meal my other dear friend at the table, John, accidentally stated something that must serve as the slogan for Sunset Pho Caffe. He said, "It elevates the past." By golly it does and I'll raise my glass to that!

I was so hungry but wasn't going to wait outside in the cold. So I looked for places nearby and saw Phodega was down the street! They had good reviews and based off pictures, the place looked delicious! I wasn't in the mood for pho (even though the weather was perfect for hot noodle soup) but the Hainanese chicken rice caught my eye. It was a super cute spot, small but luckily we were able to snag a table. There are only a handful of tables and they are pretty close together. It was decorated just as expected, like a Bodega of course! a trendy, hippy little shop. I think the concept is pretty cool. We were greeted by the worker at the counter and explained we can either order at the counter with her or have a seat, scan the QR code on the table and order from there. If you need more napkins, utensils, water, etc. there's a self service station by the door. For two people, we ordered a lot of food! LOL Here's our order: 1. Hainanese chicken rice 2. Salt & Pepper Chicken Skins 3. Phodega Fries 4. The Viet Dip 5. Crack Wings I will say, 5 items at a 2 person table is very crowded lol. Our eyes were definitely bigger than our tummies. 5 stars based on Bahn mi, cha gio and iced coffee I ordered today…read more I must have been part of an early crowd. When I arrived, there was only one other table dining, which made it GREAT for me. It's a decent size hall with 10+ table arrangements, making it pretty great for a group to enjoy their lunch. It also featured a couple of kiosks for ordering, which I thought was a bit easy to miss, since it was tucked away in the left corner when you walked in. It looked like there was also a cashier available to take orders, if you miss the kiosks. I've seen places where they simply do not have anyone at the register to take orders, but that wasn't the case for Lotus. Before deciding to visit them today, I had an impression that their menu choices were very limited compared to other Vietnamese restaurants I was used to. I'm certainly not complaining, since I'm usually a huge fan of select "specialty" approach in restaurants. That's why I decided to order one of their Bahn mi, where I normally would have chosen pho for my first visit. And it didn't disappoint. First off, the size of the sandwich was good. I've had it where they charged a buck or two less, but they weren't big enough to be a full "lunch" portion. Lotus' size, I thought was decent. I had ordered one of their cha gios just in case the sandwich failed to fill me, but I think I would have been okay without it. Cha gio was super good tho! Oh, and the iced V-coffee was good, too. Typically, they'll bring out the coffee before your meal is ready, probably because they're ready-made in the morning and all you'd need to do is pour them over ice. I of course, have known legitimate mom n' pop places, where they'll actually bring out coffee as it's brewing in Phin (stainless steel coffee filter) and a glass of ice with condensed milk, so you can wait for the coffee to finish brewing and pour yourself one, which is what I *always* prefer. Not here, but no big deal. You can usually tell how good the food is going to be by trying their iced coffee. Even though V-coffee isn't known for using "incredible" beans, the balance of the strength of coffee and condensed milk *does* make a big difference in your experience. I felt this place had it correct! I'll definitely come back myself and even bring coworkers or my family to have their Bahn mi again. What I'm not sure about is whether I want to try their pho or bun. First, they don't offer too many variations, so I'm stuck choosing from just a few. (For example, I usually go for "brisket-only" or a combo of brisket and rare steak, but they didn't seem to have those options. Granted, it's possible they'll make it happen if I asked) Secondly, I think they're a couple bucks more expensive than what I would like to pay for a bowl of pho. We'll see.

I didn't try the hot pot, but the group one table over had it. Speaking of the other group, so many varied entrees came out of the kitchen - it was cool to see more than just phở. The waitstaff is quick... almost to the point of impatient! But never problematic. Be aware that dishes fly out of the kitchen as they are ready. One bowl might come out way before the others. An appetizer might come out last. It just whatever is ready (it appears). Also, their takeout game is strong, judging by the amount of trays ready to go and people coming in to carry-out.
