Dude. This place is amazing for vegetarians. We had a meat eater w us and he agreed it was incredible. Highly recommend. Service is fast and friendly. Parking is convenient in the lot across the street. Bathrooms are clean. Prices are reasonable. Love how they're hella on it with the water! Food's delicious and a few dishes we ordered were spicy, so we were thankful for the frequent water filling! Can't wait til my next trip out to Chicago so I can come back.

The image shows two white plates of fried food on a wooden table. The left plate contains battered chicken pieces, while the right plate has tempura-style vegetables, including zucchini and eggplant. Each plate has a metal spoon, and there are small bowls of dipping sauces, one with a reddish-brown sauce and the other with an orange sauce. A tablet and some napkins are also visible on the table.

While I don't have dietary restrictions, I'm so glad for this spot and will gladly come back to this casual spot! There was a wide range of options, both centering veggies and centering plant-based "meat" dishes. There wasn't a dish that I didn't enjoy, but I would definitely recommend the braised mushrooms - they were a standout dish! Service was speedy and attentive. Highly recommend!

KungPao Stir Fry - A plate of stir-fried chicken with vegetables, including celery and peanuts, coated in a brown sauce. The dish is served on a white plate placed on a wooden table, with some sauce visible around the edges.

Stopped in for a quick dinner the other night and sampled the fried dumplings and the Kung Pao "chicken" stir fry. I was surprised to discover that the "chicken" was actually breaded mushroom--a creative twist that turned out to be interesting. Both dishes were delicious, and the service was friendly and efficient. The ambiance is casual - you order on an iPad at the table and then pay at the counter. I'd definitely return to explore more of the menu.

I loved every bite! I went for my birthday and got 10% off! But I wanted to try a vegan Chinese restaurant as I've not found any in Chicago. I lucked up on this place. The service was good, and the food...chefs kiss! I had the veggie fried rice, spring rolls, fried cauliflower and fried oyster mushrooms. I even tried some vegan sesame balls. It was an acquired taste but I ended up liking it. I can't wait to go back!

Singapore Noodles Orange Plant-Based Chicken - The image shows a wooden table with two white plates of Chinese cuisine, including stir-fried noodles with vegetables and meat, a bowl of steamed white rice, and a dish of sweet and sour chicken garnished with broccoli and orange slices. Silverware and napkins are also visible, indicating a dining setting.

This was my first visit to Veggie House, and I was very pleased with the food! This is a vegetarian restaurant that offers vegan options. We ordered two dishes; Plant-based Orange Chicken made with king oyster mushrooms and the Singapore Noodles. Both dishes were super yummy. I could literally order the same dishes for dinner today. I thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Can't wait to return!

We had two dishes at veggie house. One was amazing, one was so bad we couldn't finish it. The wonton soup was very disappointing. It tasted like a mildly seasoned bland broth with frozen dumplings, not wontons. For$8 for a small bowl, it was so disappointing. The kung pao tofu on the other hand was exceptionally good!!! The veggies were crisp, the tofu was crispy and not dried out, and the sauce was sticky and rich. So overall, I would go back. I saw some other dishes at tables around me that looked good. But would be conservative and not order a ton because of the big margin of quality between the two dishes.

The portion sizes were good, and everything came out nicely presented. The service was friendly and quick, and the overall ambiance was welcoming and comfortable. Food too was nice.

Orange Plant-Based Chicken and Spicy Buffalo Cauliflower - The image shows a meal with two main dishes: a plate of orange plant-based chicken with broccoli and orange slices, and a plate of fried chicken pieces. There is a bowl of white rice and a small bowl of dipping sauce on a wooden table. The setting includes utensils, napkins, and a glass of water nearby.

My friends and I wanted to visit Chicago's Chinatown again and decided to hit Veggie House, an all-vegan/vegetarian Chinese restaurant! Food: tasty! But admittingly, it is not the most filling, and I am not sure if these portions could be considered "family style." - Orange "Chicken" made with King Oyster Mushrooms: (5/5) For context, I am usually a mushroom hater, but I was pleasantly surprised by this dish and would order it again. It was drenched in sauce, and I thought it was interesting how they added literal orange slices and chunks to enhance the flavor (a bit on the citrus side). It was definitely a nice touch! I wish the portions were bigger; it might be more appropriate for one person rather than sharing with a group of 4. - Spicy Buffalo Cauliflower: (5/5) Looking back, I think I would have preferred if they made it with tofu, but cauliflower is fine too! The sauce they provided was spicy and sweet/sour, and the texture was good and crisp. It also had little rice cracker (?) bits on the bottom too. Service/Ambiance: There was ample seating, and the restaurant was spacious. Maybe it was because we came on a weekday, but it was quiet, and there weren't too many customers. The workers were friendly enough but didn't check up often, but it was not a big deal at all. Maybe it's because Chicago is generally more expensive, but I did find the prices to be on the higher end, especially the strictly veggie dishes. Likewise, I was shocked that they only gave my group a small bowl of rice when most (if not all) Asian restaurants I've been to would have provided a pot of rice.

This was a cute little spot in Chinatown that's a very solid option that is veggie centric. The braised eggplant was on point and had all the garlic and spice flavor for a soft textured dish. The dumplings were okay, not my favorite, I prefer meat dumplings for sure which means I would order something else the next time I come. The mayo tofu is another classic that was spot on and had just the right about of spicy level. The shitske mushroom was delicious, I've never had a dish like that before either the fried mushrooms. The salt and pepper were just right and not overpowering. The iPad ordering was also very helping to review all the options

    top: sweet+sour "chicken" (it's mushroom)
top right: turmeric "chicken" (also mushroom)
 bottom: monglian "beef" (soy)

Overall: Solid vegetarian/vegan chinese food, some of the food you won't be able to tell is plant based! Great option if you have these dietary restrictions or are looking to follow a plant-based diet without compromising flavor. I'm not vegetarian or vegan, but i came here to eat with vegan family. The restaurant was clean. Service was really friendly, fast, and accomodating. Highly recommend the turmeric "chicken" appetizer and the mongolian soy beef. The salt and pepper shrimp was also great, and it tasted and felt a lot like shrimp despite being plant-based. Some of the dishes' flavors and textures won't be exactly like their animal-based counterparts, but I really enjoyed eating here as someone who eats meat. Highly recommend!

Tried their seafood fried rice mad mongolian beef. Would highly recommend. Mongolian beef is actually a lil spicy.

My party of 3 came in on a Saturday evening and were seated quickly. It was busy but there were a couple of tables opening up. Our server brought water and told us to order off of an iPad. Some might find this strange, but I like the freedom of being able to browse at your own pace and order when you're ready (there's also a button to press for assistance/water/bill). We ordered fried potstickers as an appetizer, which I would skip next time. But the 3 entrees we ordered were absolutely killer. We could not stop raving about how delicious it all was. We ordered the orange chicken (which was actually mushroom), Mongolian soy beef, and Kung Pao Tofu. There were no leftovers because we vacuumed it all up! They're pretty sizable portions too. We ordered sesame balls for dessert, which were nutty and sweet and the perfect cap to the meal. I will be dreaming about this meal until I can come back and eat it all again. This is amazing vegan Chinese food, I'm so grateful to have a stellar vegan option in Chinatown.

My main grudge on this night was the pour of sparkling wine (brut). Champagne flutes are typically six ounces. A standard pour of wine is five ounces. That means a pour of sparkling wine should stop about 1 inch from the rim of the glass*. Not so this time. I thought the bartender had emptied the bottle and was going to continue his pour with a new bottle, but no - that was not the case (I was seated at the bar.) I had gotten only about 3 out of 5 ounces of a $16 glass of wine. Not cool since every patron is charged an automatic 20% hospitality surcharge per check. (It looked more like a pour for a toast at a wedding!) Other than this major lapse in bartending etiquette - and yes, I considered saying something at the time but did not, hence, this review - my meal was fine (with the exception of the onion tart - not what I expected an onion tart to be: go with the crab cake!). *Note: I have worked part-time in F&B from 1994 to 2024 in all manner of restaurants/catering/country clubs, etc., including as a BASSET certified bartender, so I know what a pour of wine should be (and look like) in a standard champagne flute!

It also includes happy hour priced drinks. I dinned solo this time, but will be back to bring others. It's such a great deal. It reminds me of the unlimited small plates brunches in DC. The decor is lovely and cute. With colorful chairs, cool blue floral wall paper and fake flowers hanging everywhere, giving a modern garden tea party vibe. I like it! The food was good, it did not disappoint. I ordered the beet salad, brussel sprouts, Lamb medallion, pork belly stuffed cabbage, NY strip (premium small plate for an extra $10). Even though the steak was delicious and cooked to perfection, it did come thinly sliced, very small portion. In my opinion, I don't think it was worth the extra $10. I also had the mushroom pilaf, which I found on the salty side. Overall the food was good and the service was great! The bill came with a free tiny glass of cherry brandy to sip of course. I don't know if it's a promotional thing they were pushing or if they always offer free Brandy with the bill, but it was a nice gesture. I will definitely be back again for the food and service alone. I will be back for their brunch!!! Ambar is definitely a resturant in my top 5 in Chicago for small plates/tapas.

This year I was so excited to bring my family and Ema was the only restaurant in Chicago I couldn't wait for them to try. I booked it as our final meal in Chicago and lay awake at 4am being so disappointed in my choice. Our server's greeting was monotone and emotionless, which I realize now, would be foreshadowing the meal to come. Ordered the following 1) Smoky eggplant- arrived appearing as an unappetizing curdled purple grey mush. This was the worst tasting baba ghanouj I have ever eaten. It was acidic and had the texture of cottage cheese. The only redeeming thing about this appetizer was the warm naan. 2) house made stratciatella with side of green falafels- The stratciatella was bland and stringy. I would not order this dish expecting the creamy interior of typical burrata. However, if you like string cheese mixed with heavy cream- you may enjoy this dish. The tomatoes and basil were good. 3) chicken kefta- kefta was bland, rice even blander . 4) short rib with polenta- bland and the meat and polenta had the same texture, which seems impossible but somehow the plating was over complicated by the addition of mushy dates and grapes. 5) buttered noodles- my 8 year old ordered this. It was decent with a good amount of Parmesan and cooked perfectly al dente. By the end of the meal, I was so shocked by how terrible the food was I didn't even want to order the sticky date cake that was my main purpose for returning to this restaurant.
