I liked it. I do like the more flakey crunch you get from a typical banh mi baguette better though. They seem to use something similar, it's not bad just like that better, good quality ingredients (I ordered the special classic). The lychee lemonade was good nothing spectacular. Service was fast and friendly. There's a handful of tables and waiting chairs and the place looks clean. Would I go back, yes, I want to try other things they serve such as the pho, which I was told of part of the process they make it. read more

Cannot praise the quality of the bang mi bun highly enough. Flavors were excellent; meat and veggies cut a bit too chunky for my taste, but a delicious sandwich I would definitely eat again. $17 special also included a nicely sized bowl of chicken soup and drink. Cute small dining area, very pleasant staff, quick and friendly service. The food was fresh and portions were good. I'd say flavor wise it was just okay if you're looking for semi authentic Vietnamese food. We considered the flavors more muted and catering to Midwest palates. We probably won't be back as we're on the hunt for very authentic bold Vietnamese flavors, but if you'd like an entry point for this cuisine, this is a good spot. Prices were reasonable and metered street parking out front. read more

We have gone to this spot twice. There isn't much seating but the food comes fast and it's been tasty both times. The bread wasn't as crispy the 2nd time but we're fans! Get the papaya salad if you get a sandwich. It's a great side. We've enjoy the soup/pho too. read more

Very nice people at Banh Mi City in Pilsen. I was at Costco and decided to swing by for a late lunch this week. I had a Vietnamese iced coffee, which I later realized was over $7. Ouch. It was fine. The lemongrass tofu sandwich was good. I think the bread here isn't fresh per se as I saw them pulling it out of a big plastic bag. We do have some nice bakeries in the city and that might be a nice upgrade. I took the sandwich home and did add the packets of sriracha. Overall, still wasn't very spicy. Overall, the sandwich was fine. I'd probably give this place 3 stars if I had ordered delivery, but meeting the nice people makes me feel like a 4 is fine. Thanks. read more

Got takeout twice for lunch! Love the options, ingredients are fresh and service is super fast. They delivered quickly. We called to ask for the jalapeños taken out of some of the banh mi but they were already made! They still kindly took the jalapeños out for us. I got the rice noodle salad. It was a much larger portion than I was expecting and came with both a vinegrette dressing and a peanut sauce. Their spring rolls are also really worth it. And we also split a large wonton soup. The only issue I had was the Vietnamese coffee. It tasted bitter/burnt and didn't have much coffee flavor or aroma; probably won't order that again. read more

I most definitely recommend this place! I've never had a Banh Mi sandwich before trying this place and now it might just be one of my top sandwiches I've ever had. Mixed in with the Pho, that is a combo that is unbeatable. I've now had a few different things on the menu and they have all been top tier! It's always nice being able to go to a local spot that you know no matter what you try... it's going to be fire. This time I went with my brother and we shared 1 Banh Mi Sandwich and 1 Brisket Pho. Splitting it was genius, I just wish I dipped the sandwich inside the Pho more often. If you've never been to this location, it is worth driving out of the way for! The service is good too, feels like a local family vibe. Thank you Banh Mi City, looking forward to stopping by soon. Personal Review: 9.2/10 read more

The food is alright, it is good portion size and fair pricing but very bland in flavor. I would give a 3 star but the owners son sometimes has bad temper and that is unacceptable treatment for customers so I think 2 stars is fair. read more

recently tried the pho here (takeout) cause i was craving some and my usual spot was closed- and sadly was pretty disappointed. I opted for the beef option- smelled a lil funky like old pot roast so i didn't put it in my bowl. Broth was mid and they're super stingy with the onions and cilantro!:( i'm sure dine in experience might be different to easily accommodate for that but this being my first impression I'm disappointed. However staff was nice but i personally wouldn't go back read more

I had a craving for a banh mi while prepping for a long road trip to the East Coast and ended up finding a spot in Pilsen -- not a neighborhood I'd typically expect for banh mi, but I was pleasantly surprised. I tried both the BBQ pork and lemongrass banh mi and both were very flavorful. While it wasn't the most traditional banh mi I've had, it was still very impressive. They added more meat than I'm accustomed to on this sandwich - which was a big plus. The veggies were fresh (though I would've loved a bit more cilantro and daikon), and the roll was great -- it could've been a little crispier, but it was still delicious/fresh overall. The customer service was extremely friendly and welcoming. Overall, I picked up two bahn mis and two spring rolls for about $37, which felt very fair for the quality and portions. This combination of solid food and top-notch service will definitely have me coming back. read more

Who would have thought that in the heart of Pilsen, that you could get a banh mi sandwich. If you're in the area and craving a banh mi sandwich, this place hits. I ordered a classic banh mi to go. The sandwich was decent. Had good amount of meat and vegetables. The bread didn't taste super fresh, and I wish it was a bit more crunchy. the service was great. We had a big order and they fulfilled it quickly with short notice. If I'm ever craving banh mi, this will be my go to spot. Will be back to try other menu items! read more

Great affordable Vietnamese Pho and sandwiches' in Pilsen, who would have guessed a hidden gem. Stopped in to give them a try and the food is decent. I got the beef brisket Pho which as you can see in the picture, there is a lot of meat in the soup. You can pay with card or cash no discount with cash. Easy process - Order and find a seat. The food came very quick. Highly recommend if you are tired of eating taco's - Pho is good for you. read more

Banh Mi City - Beef Brisket Pho $13 - Vietnamese Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

- FOOD - I'd say this is the best banh mi in the area without having to go to Argyle for more authentic vietnamese food. I've tried the saigon and beef banh mi and it's not bad. Remember to ask for extra veggies. They don't pack the banh mi fat enough but I guess I can't complain. Chicago isn't really known for amazing vietnamese food. - SERVICE - Good service. The guy with the long hair is a nice dude. - PLACE - It's in the middle of Pilsen and parking is not great. There are some tables inside and it's a clean cut place. - VERDICT - This has been my go to place for banh mi and while it's not the best I've had (I'm from LA where there is a lot of good banh mi) this is the best I've found so far in Chicago, minus Argyle. read more

Hello Yelpers, Well yesterday the Mrs & I stop in after a nice bike ride. The place is very clean, nice casual seating & The staff is very friendly. My wife and I both ordered The chicken Pho & we shared an order of shrimp spring rolls. The Shrimp Spring rolls very very fresh! Delicious!! Although they didn't have any cucumber in them. Maybe theirs doesn't come with cucumber. They come with a peanut dipping sauce, which I liked but my wife didn't like. A solid 8.5/10 The Chicken Pho comes in a huge serving! Once again VERY FRESH! this was our first time having Pho so we didn't know what to expect. I was expecting the broth to have more depth to it. But it was still very flavorful. The chicken was shredded and so tender. The noodles were cooked perfectly! Great experience for the first time. Solid 9/10! We will definitely return! The service was inviting also! Prices are competitively reasonable. I'm give them a cool 8.7/10. (Remember all reviews are subjective) read more

I come here all the time, the food is so good and always consistent and the staff is always so kind and go above and beyond!

Service was great (5/5) but I do not believe that this place is authentic (so they get 2 stars). There were several factors that lead me to this conclusion. 1). My Phô was served in a ramen bowl. 2). My Phô came out dressed already. I've been to a few Phô restaurants and NEVER did the Basil, Lime, Onion, and Jalapeños come in the dish already. 3). It lacked flavor. I'm someone that usually drinks all of my broth, but this broth was very mid, so I didn't take it with me. Overall I will not return because I want an authentic dish, but the service is amazing 5/5. read more

This place was a random find and holy cow was it a great find! Pho is one if not the best I have had! Broth is fantastic! Staff is so helpful and friendly! They recommended other dishes on their menu and explained what they were. Lychee lemonade is a must as well! Not to sweet! Try the sweet bbq spring rolls and the beef brisket pho! read more

Got a DoorDash order of original pho and pork spring rolls. It feels like I received food that was about to go bad. The food was underwhelming. Nothing was fresh. The beef was decent, but the broth was not super flavorful, The noodles were super pasty and wouldn't pull apart, the sprouts tasted vinegary/sour. the spring rolls were busted open, the pork and veggies in the roll tasted old, and peanut sauce was watery with a spoiled taste. The lime didn't even have any juice. Even the fortune cookie was stale. Positive note, I called Bahn Mi City to report the issue with the spring rolls and the customer service was excellent. The person who answered the phone was extremely professional and kind when telling me they couldn't do anything to help me and that my only option would be to come in and pick up the a replacement of spring rolls, hence the 2 star rating. To keep it transparent when I called Banh Mi city I was initially only concerned about the spring rolls beings that was the only item I had opened at the time. I didn't realize the order of food was so bad until I open the food 1/2 hour later. read more

Banh Mi City is a nice place to make a quick and satisfactory meal. Banh mi was fresh and had a good flavor balance and crisp baguette. Ingredients were fresh and well cooked. I have, for most of my life, lived in Houston Texas, with its high vietnamese population and subsequent abundant vietnamese restaurants, and have tasted my fair share of authentic banh mis. I've even visited Saigon itself and tried banh mis straight from its place of origin. Chicago's Banh Mi City, by some unknown magic, continues to produce my favorite banh mis in the world. Came across Banh Mi City while walking down 18th. The ambiance isn't anything special, but the establishment was clean and that's all I really care about besides the food being delicious. The food... Very delicious! The spring roll was fresh, filling, and really stood out due to the quality of the bbq pork. I ordered the grilled beef Bahn Mi with egg + avocado and it was the best Bahn mi that I've ever had (admittedly limited exposure). The baguette was super fresh, soft on the inside, and crispy on the outside. The meat was seasoned well, was tender, and was generously proportioned. The fresh produce on the sandwich really brings it all together. Next time I'd probably order extra jalapeño, but that's just me. I was surprised by the size of the sandwich as it was the biggest Bahn mi that I've ever had; however, it's well deserved considering it was $12.50 w/egg+avocado. The service was minimal, but acceptable. I highly recommend checking Bahn Mi City out the next time that you're in pilsen. read more

I am glad that the place is here to diversify the neighborhood. I feel like it's tough to make changes to a classic banh mi sandwich. I am used to the 3 different types of pork, but this one had just the 2 cha siu and ham. I think it had good flavor but there needed a little more substance for me. It felt a little flat where the meat to bun ratio was a bit off needing more meat and veggies. I do feel like you get a longer bread though, but not as crispy chewy on the outside. read more

Had a craving for Vietnamese and was so thankful to find this place in Pilsen and open in the evening. So I went. It's very cute and bigger than I was expecting. When I ready about it, I thought it was going to be a hole in the wall, but it's not. It doesn't have too many tables to sit down, so I guess a lot of people must order to go or delivery. Ordered the shrimp spring rolls and a Saigon classic banh mi. As I was the only person in there at the time, the food came out fast. The spring rolls were longer than I'm used to seeing which I was so very appreciative of. They were great and held nicely as I ate them. The bahn mi was so good. The bread was warm and not tough. Pillowy but not doughy. Very flavorful. On another day I would like to try the pho but glad to know that this place is near, it's very affordable, and that it's serving good food. read more

I decided to check this place out and went with an open mind. I frequently go to Argyle St for my Vietnamese so I have a pretty good grasp of what makes a good Pho. Unfortunately, I was not impressed at all. First, the beef broth flavor was VERY faint so it tasted more like a "Mexican caldo" than Vietnamese Pho..definetley missing the herbs that makes PHO....PHO Second, they put all the garnishments themselves into the soup including hot peppers without bothering to ask if you want it all in..I dont even recall receiving any basil leaves which is typical in Pho. Lastly, they certainly dont have the round beef brisket that gets cooked in the broth but rather it's shredded beef... I simply was not sold on the authenticity aspect..and I think Ill stick to tacos in Pilsen and Pho at Argyle.. the banh mi sandwich was okay but nothing to get too excited about... I went with 3 other people and everyone felt itbwas simply "okay" but not truly Vietnamese legit.... read more

OMGGGGG.. I FINALLY got my Christmas wish and got to indulge in a bowl of Pho and Bahn Mi at this shop I've been eyeballing for months. Every day that passed as I walked in front of this tiny spot I would have a conversation with my bf asking when it'd open its doors. I FINALLY got a chance to swing by and was surprised by how BMC exceeded my expectations. So perfect for tonight since this rainy weather and long work shift sucked the life out of me.. I'm back and happy as a clam. I'm writing this review for those that want comfort and authenticity without leaving 18th, I'm sharing this if you're taco'd out, I'm putting this out there if you're looking for the secret eatery you've desperately needed without breaking the bank. Don't think about it, just try it before Thrillist figures out that the tastiest viet isn't on Argyle or Chinatown. It's here in Pilsen! FRESH crusty baguette straight out of the oven with soft airy innards stuffed generously with crispy raw and pickled veggies, immaculately seasoned grilled beef- no gristle or hunks of fat- adorned with tons of herbs and the right amount of Pâté.... Not just Pilsen good, up to par with New Orleans! The pho was so clear and perfumed with the correct spices that It didn't even need hoisin or sriracha to jazz it up. I am shocked and amazed this gem is hidden in plain sight en la 18- i will definitely come back :) Thanks! read more

Can we talk about how delicious and comforting the pho broth is here? Their Banh mi is absolutely delicious, don't get me wrong, but even when we just order sandwiches, we still get a side of broth because we can't get enough. The depth of flavor and the spice blend just elevate it to something wonderful. This place has fast become one of our default comfort foods. Banh mi is a perfect sandwich and Banh Mi City makes them perfectly. I ordered at the counter and in just a few minutes a heavenly sandwich was delivered to our table. I had shredded chicken and my wife had the Saigon Classic special with ham, pate and pork roll. Each one had pickled jalapeños, cilantro and other tasty complements. The baguette had such a perfect balance of crunch and softness that it was delicious by itself. Each ingredient added to the perfection. There were just a few tables and the customers who followed us all seemed to know just what they wanted. It was a friendly and very casual atmosphere. They also have soups, salads, spring rolls and other items on the menu. I hope to return to try them all. read more

What a great addition to Pilsen! My friend and I split a Grilled Beef Banh Mi and a small wonton soup (5 wontons). I'd 100% pass on the wonton soup since the wontons weren't that great (though their handmade chicken stock for the soup itself was DELICIOUS). I 500000% get a Banh Mi from here again! As someone who had a lot of Vietnamese food growing up in the Bay Area, I will say this place definitely compares and is so good. Their bread was so warm and fluffy and they gave a great amount of all the toppings. The sandwich was perfectly balanced from the mayo to pickled carrots and daikon to the amount of beef. I honestly can't wait to come here or order from here again the next time I'm craving a banh mi. Owner was also super nice! There are a good number of seats inside. read more
