Runaway Cow is awesome! I love getting the Jokers Snowstorm and their peanut butter chocolate shake off of their regular menu but they do a great job with their seasonal flavors and sundaes. Allison is always helpful with her suggestions and patient with my questions. I'm gluten free so I really appreciate having a variety of cone and topping options. I ordered an ice cream cake for my boyfriends birthday this year. It was both delicious and beautifully decorated. Thanks! read more

Went on a hot 95 degree day for some ice cream. The owner was very sweet, kind, and informative. She explained the different types of ice creams to us and even gave us a sample! We ended up getting two snowstorms. We didn't enjoy them because they had a strong vegan taste. You could taste that they used alternative dairy options. Even with the brownie swirled into the soft serve which was also vegan. The soft serve was also not that cold/firm and was melting as soon as we got them plus super sweet ( overly sweet for my liking). However, the place is very cute on the inside, and if you don't mind the vegan forward ice cream taste, you'll enjoy it here. I think I'll come back and try some other options...which might not have such a strong alternative dairy taste. read more

Love this place! The novelty treats are phenomenal, and the ice cream is delicious--I can actually enjoy it without ending up with a tummy ache. One thing to note: the husband can come across as a bit rude (ahole) at times, but the wife is incredibly kind and goes above and beyond to make customers feel welcome. Her excellent customer service (and products) keeps me coming back! read more

Love that there is a vegan ice cream option on the south side. Also love that they have some food options here as well. I've been about three times. There is something about the appearance of the ice cream I don't love, and it does seem to lean overly sweet, but I think it just depends on what flavors you try. read more

We are out of town visitors and were in town for the 4th of July weekend. On the 4th we were on the hunt for ice cream, many shops were closed. We came across this shop and called. When we called, they mentioned they were closing soon but would stay open if we got there quickly. We were 5 min out and they did stay open! They were all so friendly and the ice cream was amazing. We are NOT vegan and had no idea it was a vegan ice cream shop until after we ordered. It was delicious! The sizes are pretty big. The shop itself is a little small, I would plan on ordering and enjoying on the bench right outside. Would recommend and would make an effort to visit next time we are in Chicago! read more

The best plant based ice cream shop by far in the country! They had so many flavors and even had some hot food. The strawberry cheesecake snowstorm was super delicious and sweet! I had a banana shake and I think there was real bananas with some banana ice cream in there! Yum! The best! My daughter loved her vanilla with sprinkles on a cone. And we also had the peanut butter cup snowstorm. The service was friendly and fast! We definitely will keep stopping by here when in Chicago!!!! read more

Review of Caramel Cider Biscoff Sundae - apple cider + caramel softserve, caramel topping, apple pie filling, biscoff crumble. Soft serve was so creamy I wouldn't believe this was vegan. Great combination of flavors and ingredients that work together. Any sweet tooth will love this Fall theme sundae. Service was good. Employees were very nice. No seating inside. read more

Was in the mood for ice cream and found Runaway Cow on Yelp and decided to check it out. Finally a warm night so there was a decent line but it moved quickly. No seating inside except for a bench. Benches outside though to enjoy. Tough decision to make but went with the turtle parfait. It is a vegan shop so the ice cream is made with oat milk. I couldn't believe how smooth the ice cream was! Plenty of pecans in every bite and the chocolate fudge couldn't be missed! Def a fan and will be on the look out for more vegan shops to try. read more

Runaway Cow's place is so colorful, and we noticed right away the staff was incredibly friendly from the moment we walked in. At first, I was planning to try a shake, but then I spotted the chocolate and vanilla swirl and knew I had to go for it, so I ordered the largest size of the swirl, and I'm so glad I did because when I got home, I put it in the freezer and enjoyed it over the next few days. Gotta say, the flavor stayed so rich and unique. I love that we have a vegan creamery like this in town. read more

Wow this place is a true gem. My daughter and I made our way here from the north side to try this place for lunch and it did not disappoint!! Service was spectacular, the lady working was so welcoming and helpful as we made our choices. We both ordered the sandwich of the month which was amazing. I had a Klutz snowstorm which I found as creamy, rich and filling as the original. Well done. Only downside is no indoor seating or bathrooms, but it was a nice day so we sat outside. I look forward to a return trip to try other menu items. read more

2nd time ordering them for takeout- funny enough I didn't realize it was vegan until this time around (now I understand why I thought the ice cream tasted a bit.. different haha - still good though!) FYI Grubhub has a neat coupon of $10 off a $15 purchase! You get to try some really good treats for a really discounted price with that offer! It always gets to me pretty quickly but I am on 33rd street. Can't speak on in person service because of this. read more

Such a cute place. I never thought vegan ice cream could be this good. I got a waffle cone with swirl ice cream & Halloween sprinkles. It was so creamy & vanilla-y flavored. The guy working was so nice & told us they do pop ups when they are closed for winter. Also, made to order ice cream cakes. I got a rice krispy treat to go that was so delish too. Run to runaway cow! All vegan and GF options too. Service was amazing. A little out of the way for me but, I would definitely recommend if you're near the neighborhood. This is the cutest vegan ice cream shop! Super friendly and knowledgeable staff. I would like some inside eating area but the benches outside are doable. I had the caramel apple biscoff sundae! Their soft serve ice cream in this is a wonderful texture and not too sweet. The caramel sauce, apples and biscoff crumbles make it perfect. I got a quart of black cherry for home, which I think will be perfect with real cherries, granola and perhaps whipped topping. They close for the season on Oct 26. Next year! read more

I love this place. Super excited to have quality dairy free ice cream on the southside. I usually get their version of the mini blizzard which is more than enough for me. The flavor combos are good with my favorite being the chocolate covered strawberry. Runaway Cow is officially my favorite ice cream shop in the Chicago. What makes them stand out is that all their soft serves, shakes, and sundaes are made with oat milk, resulting in a slightly nuttier and extremely smooth flavor. They offer a wide variety of specialty and seasonal flavors (like the PB&J soft serve pictured) in the warmer months. The shop has very little seating if any, but there are benches right outside and Palmisano Park is just a short walk away. It's locally-owned and the owners are extremely friendly. Runaway Cow is just a lovely local ice cream shop and definitely worth a shot if you're in Bridgeport! read more

So nice that they're open til 10 even on weeknights. When we were there, they were dealing with replacing a freezer and were super apologetic about it despite not needing to be - not sure if it was the owners or staff, but they seemed really invested in our experience which I really appreciate! For ordering, I didn't realize it's all soft serve, no ice cream which I was a little disappointed by and I also wish they had a few more flavor options. However, they did a good job of making up for it with the candy add ins. I went with the Biscoff cookie snowstorm (like a DQ blizzard) and really my only complaint is I wish they had a smaller size option just because it was more than I wanted + price-wise more than I had expected to spend. Overall so glad to have this dairy free ice cream option for those who are intolerant or vegan! read more

Vegan alert! New business alert! Wowzer. Definitely amazed by their options and selections. The staff were quick and knowledgable about their menu. They move in rhythm and with efficiency. Kudos there for sure. I chose to go with the strawberry shortcake sundae and it wasn't a miss. Everything include the vanilla cake slice used was vegan. Not too sweet but not bland. I believe for vegan items they definitely did their thang and I know for sure I'm going to return. I'm just surprised how many people don't know about this gem! read more

Finally got in here over the weekend after hearing about it for months from my friend who lives nearby and has loved each item she's tried. I can't have dairy and therefore haven't had soft serve in many years. I got a hot fudge sundae with vanilla soft serve and nuts, and enjoyed it out in front of the shop in the very warm sun. It was so good! The creaminess of the ice cream is incredible. Definitely going back soon to try a cone, and who knows what else after that. They have so many appealing options on the menu. It's a very cute little place, and super clean, which never goes unappreciated by me. The service was perfection. Cutest little shop with friendly owners and amazing vegan soft serve. They make a lot of their mix-ins in house, and sell vegan desserts and candy bars as well. I ordered a medium cone with chocolate/vanilla and sprinkles, and it was massive. I love soft serve, and this could have easily fooled me as regular ice cream. So good! This place is definitely worth a stop if you're in the neighborhood, or a special trip if you're not. The Runaway Cow was a super easy day with the greatness soft serves sweetness and is CLEAN. The cow photos are cute! The large sweet creamy thang tested my taste buds for sure. It was delicious no dripping none of that. I took a few licks and though nothing is missing, well hello sweet creamy. What had caught me by surprised is that ice cream didn't dissolve (No Drips). The family enjoyed their sundae treats even owner looked over her shoulder with a proud smile. One last thought came to my mind, what about dinner tonight? The vibe was chill so, I ordered everyone a classic Chicago Hotdog with chips to go, yes, the bun has poppy seeds on it. There are several cute benches outside the doorway. Fist time I've ever had "good" vegan treats. In my experience vegan desserts are terrible however there's an exception to every rule & that's exactly what runaway cow was. This is a new neighborhood ice cream shop in Bridgeport, and it's delicious! I grew up drinking fountain Green River soda at my local public pool in the summers, and they have Green River floats here! A true nostalgic delight. My kids (ages 11 and 9) also loved it. The ice cream tastes the same, if not better than the dairy counterpart. (There is a reason why oat milk creamer is amazing in coffee. It just works.). Everyone (vegans, lactose intolerant friends and ice cream lovers) can unite here and enjoy a tasty summer treat. One of the owners has worked in the ice cream business for over 2 decades, and her experience shows. She is also one of the kindest people on the planet. My kids won't stop asking to go back! 10/10 read more

It's amazing to see more vegan places opening up in this neighborhood. We used to have to travel to north side or downtown to find good vegan spots. It's a great little spot, luckily walkable from our place. If you are planning to drive there, there are places to pull up in front of the store, and it hasn't been difficult to find parking in my experience. They don't have seating (yet!), but I think the neighborhood has plenty of parks and whatnot near them so you can enjoy your little treat on a bench while being outdoors. The items themselves are great, a perfect pick me up after work or at the end of your week. The people there are super nice! I will say, if you're going to order anything other than a cone, some of those are definitely shareable sizes. Just got the Oreo Brownie Treat, and had to share it. It was so good though! read more

Had a great time stopping in this vegan ice cream shop during a busy workday. I've been dairy-free for eight years and it was great to visit a place where I could eat basically everything on the menu (except for anything that also included gluten). The people who made our ice cream choices were lovely. I got a moose tracks sundae and my friend got one of the blended Blizzard-like treats. They were a great size for the price and tasted amazing--just like real dairy soft serve! Took off one star because ambiance/space could use some upgrading. In the cold cases, there were t-shirts and handwritten signs instead of ice cream or toppings. It was hard to know/understand what was available to order. And the bright lime green was overwhelming. I'd love to see this place take out the cold coolers and put some seating inside for super hot days. I also saw a sign noting they were preparing to offer hot food but I think that'd be a miss. They specialize so amazingly in ice cream and shakes that I think hot food would detract from their mission. Overall would definitely come back. But I wish they'd dig even deeper into exclusively providing amazing vegan desserts! read more
