Lovely Mexican bakery in Pilsen. The inside is delightful and it's so fun to look at all the pastries and treats. Some of my favorite things I tried were the concha cupcake and the watermelon cookie. It's self serve which I like. You grab a tray and tongs, select your items, and they pay everything up and ring you up at the counter. Also, prices here are very reasonable compared to many of the bakeries in other parts of this city. If you need pastries for a party or event, this would be a great place to get them. read more

I stopped by on a Thursday afternoon around 2:30 pm and the shelves were well stocked. It's self-serve so just grab a tray and a set of tongs and create your own box. Here's what we tried: 1) Tortuga pan dulce shaped like turtles* 2) Ojo de buey pan dulce shaped like a bull's eye* 3) Pan fino pan dulce shaped like a croissant 4) Butter cookies were dry and crumbly. 5) Orejas was flakey but somewhat lacking in flavor. 6) Buñuelos coated in sugar* The ones marked with an asterisk are ones that I particularly enjoyed. Everything was packed in paper bags and after a while, you can see some of the grease seeping through the bags. If you're watchful of your diet, you should probably skip these. Super happy to have found this place so I could try vegan concha for the first time! They have a separate cabinet for the vegan pastries, when I went they had elephant ears, an apple pastry, some muffins, and concha (only 2 left). Seems the vegan selection has decreased compared to the past, I went around 9:30am so I doubt it was because they had sold out of everything else already. I got a pink concha, it was really pretty and tasted amazing! Sweet but not overly so and good texture balance of soft bread with crunchy sugar topping. Inside the bakery it smells SO good. Half of it met my craving and now I'm looking forward to enjoying the other half just because. I picked up some long bread and sugar slice because una señora picked up tres. It was meh! My daughter loved the concha topped cupcake. I mean she inhaled it. I didn't get to taste it and I didn't have to help her take it out of the wrapper. This might be the go to because it doesn't have the typical frosting and she ate the entire thing. And it was huge! I think what I enjoyed most was the prices. Four items for like $12. Now I KNOW every other bakery is severely overpriced. I'll be back to try more items. This would be better if I had signs to help me understand the items but I acknowledge this is a local authentic family owned business. Adorable local bakery. They are small but mighty having a variety of delicious goods. Besides sweet & savory baked goods, there were tortillas & queso & other treats. There were so many things we wanted but stuck with a coffee & a couple of good like their concha muffin & couple of other goods. Panaderia paradise is what this place is. If I weren't so happy with them, I would be angry that they've set the bar for panaderías so high that now I would pass on ones that are closer to me just to make the trip here. For me this really is worth going out of my way for. My go to has been rebanada de mantequilla, buñuelos and of course churros, exceptionally good churros. How good? Well, I had one cold the next day and it was still crispy and delicious, so I can only imagine how good it would be to get this fresh at the bakery, or if I were less lazy and gluttonous and heated it back up in the oven myself. The place itself is very clean and everyone working there was quite friendly and polite. Not surprisingly it gets a little bit busy in this small place, but it is worth it to sample the dizzying array of baked goods here. Literally dozens of different pastries all made daily. They even have a humongous vegan selection of classic sweets. For me this is a must stop when around here. It has among the best vegan selection in a bakery anywhere and there's quite a lot. The prices are great too. Get everything from cookies, doughnuts, and full cakes as well. Amazing they have so much packed into here. They have everything ready for you to come in, pick out what you want, and place it on a tray. Among the vegan choices are conchas. It's about $1.65 each. These are kind of like cookies or doughnuts, fluffy and sweet. Also they have vegan cupcakes. It's about $3 each. These are humongous. Also you can order a whole cake. They apparently can make a vegan one but call ahead to place an order. Get a lot for not a lot. It's important to get there as early as possible. They often run out of many things. read more

Stop by to try their concha's with ice cream. We walked in and first thing I didn't like was the bread glass containers door where all half way opened or no door at all. I didn't see any bugs inside them but we got lucky the had just finished bring out four fresh concha's from the back. Two of the concha's were made with chocolate ice cream and chocolate syrup and coco puffs. It looked good but the concha bread was soft but dry. We got a white and chocolate choncha to go. I cut the white one in half and saw the dough was brown inside and the chocolate one was white. I had the chocolate concha and it was okay nothing to stand out. After eating at Jibarito's up the street, S and I walked around the neighborhood and saw the pastry pictures on the outside. The one pastry that caught my eye was the manteconcha! Apparently it's a mantecada (muffin) and the concha combined! I already love conchas, but the combination had me running into the bakery. There are trays and tongs to grab what you please. I was already full from lunch, so I just grabbed one manteconcha in a purple coloring. They had a variety of pretty colors like pink, white, yellow, green, light blue, and more! It was so cute and tiny compared to what I was normally used to. My verdict, DELICIOSO! I can't believe this was my first time trying it and I hope it becomes a staple in California. It was a good serving, the concha top tasted amazing with the muffin. It was a bit pricey, $2.65, and they do charge 10 cents for a paper bag if you need one. But was it worth it? Hello, I really wanted to see what all the hype is about. I love supporting small businesses! I walk by every day and I would see several non Latinos waiting for bread. I thought the place would have been delicious. However, I came to find out that they are only there for the vegan bread. I was not impressed by the service nor the pastry. I kindly asked for a plastic box container that I was more than happy to purchase. (Nothing is free in life) The cashier that was helping simply asked if I could buy it ,and her boss was rude to her for simply asking. I could see her body slightly curl with fear. The cashier didn't do anything wrong. The boss called the owner and I could hear her over the phone denying the sale of a plastic container for the "fake concha muffins" (6) with an attitude! How can you speak to your employees in such manner. I could see where the culture is in that shop. It's a shame that many fellow Latinos forget where they once stood before becoming business owners and they try to belittle their Latino staff members! I will not give another penny to business owners like that. Treat your staff well. Maybe next time they won't tell me your flavored flour tortillas are gross and to not purchase them. Nuevo León is one of the best Mexican panaderias in the city. They are always very welcoming, and they always have a nice selection of fresh Pan everyday and a very fair price. My favorite are their conchas and "elotes." The conchas are smaller than others but are perfectly done. My all time favorite Mexican sweet bread is the "elote." A bread that looks like an elote but does not have any corn in it. It has a sweet hard filling inside wrapped with regular bread and sprinkled in sugar. I can only think of one other place in the suburbs that makes this bread perfect. Others have tried but have failed miserably. Nuevo León knows the deal and I highly recommend trying them. read more

Stop by this Spanish speaking bakery in Pilsen. No particular reason I wanted something sweet. The pastries in the window looked appealing, so I stopped in. A friend of mine who knows a little something about pastries (parents owned a donut shop), and had been here before recommended it. I was not disappointed, the bread pudding was good and the strawberry filling cake was really, really good. It taste like one of those little Debbie strawberry shortcakes but bigger, better, and it was incredibly moist. Now the moistnest and freshness of the pastries overall is what really stood out to me. The few Mexican bakeries I've been to in the past seemed dry or there food had been there all day. But this place was different. They have all the pastries in "display cases". You get a medium to large metal tray and tongs and you slide the cases open put them on your tray and go checkout. Lots of different options, churros, flan, chocolate chip cookies, the list goes on. Living so close to this spot is a blessing. Items are beautifully displayed behind sliding glass doors and it is self/serve style. Grab a tray, tongs, and gloves and help yourself. The vegan section is near the checkout area on the right. I grabbed 6 conchas and 2 jarritos. The total was around $11 which I think is very fair! The workers were kind even with how busy and hectic things are (I am sure they are used to it-their business is beautiful and successful). This place was amazing. The pastries were fresh and everything was self service. You take a tray and tongs and you choose away. They also had flavored tortillas and drinks. Along with tres leches cakes and my favorite bread of all Concha. So when I saw this place was around me, I had to see what they had on the table to blog about. I chose their Concha Cupcake and it was great. A unique idea I have never seen before, so when I tried it, it was mind blowing. It was moist, tender, rich and had a great amount of flavor from the Concha bread on top and the vanilla cupcake at the bottom. The only flaw I could find was the cupcake was a little grainy. Which means they needed to mix the cupcake batter better. Other than that this place was great, the service was fast, and the prices were cheap. Good job, I will definitely be back soon. read more

I came here recently in search of vegan baked goods for my late brother's birthday and was thrilled to have found this spot just a short mile away from my home. At 9:00, they were already bustling with bakery go-ers snagging up the freshest bread and goods possible. Their vegan section is situated near the back and is accompanied with descriptions on what each item contains as it pertains to your accommodation. I managed to snag two conchas for my mini celebration and they were delicious! Extremely fluffy and lightly sugared, you wouldn't even realize that it was vegan. Although you may leave only one or two baked goods, they are still card friendly. My two items came out to $3.58 and they had no issue with swiping the plastic. Well-adapted to modern times, a collection of Vegan items plus an active Instagram account amongst the reasons guests travel across town to 1634 West 18th Street, it was around 2:00pm that shelves were found stocked, a trio of employees pleasant and efficient while following safety precautions. Also offering a Creperia next door, ownership's willingness to embrace fusion visible across the Panadería's diverse collection, most shoppers will nonetheless find themselves starting traditionally, Concha soft and light with enough moisture that freshness is evident while "Mante-Concha" Muffins feature similar Sugar-detailing and structure that progresses from airy on top to a Cake-like bottom. Speaking of Cake, Panadería Nuevo Leon's Cortadillo amongst the best of its kind thanks to Frosting that is clearly added while warm, Gordita Dulce is an acquired taste that eats like lightly-sweetened Cornbread while a Concha "Ice Cream Sandwich" called La Fresa would benefit from better Ice Cream and Syrup, though given the low price it is still pretty hard not to love. read more

I LOVE that this is an authentic panderia and they have a seperate vegan menu/items for the ever-changing community. I only came for the pepper/cream cheese stuffed bread that I have been looking for after having it once in Joliet. The place looks very clean, has many flavor varieties for fresh tortillas in the fridge and all goodies in the cases that is very Covid safe. There was a little language barrier when ordering but the employee finally said just give me the number you want (menu on board with numbers). I got my bread, concha and pina pastry. The bread was ok. I like it more filled and the peppers to be way more spicy! But I know that is not favored by many. I was told the other 2 pastries was good as well.
