The food was really excellent, as was the service. But it was ridiculously priced. The reuben sandwich was $28. It was a great sandwich, very lean, but you could get a sandwich as good for half the cost elsewhere. They only have a couple of kid's items, but my friend requested buttered noodles for her kid rather than the cheesy noodles. I got the hibiscus drink and lavender lemonade, both non-alcoholic, and they were very good. My little one especially liked the hibiscus. And we ordered the appetizer of whipped ricotta and honey; my daughter liked this more than anything else we ordered. We didn't have dessert at the restaurant, but ordered to go. The pot of gold was really good. There were little "gold nuggets" on it and that was my daughter's favorite part; good thing since I didn't realize it had a layer with Bailey's in it. It was very rich, and the cauldron was really thick chocolate (and actually was a struggle to get into, a bit!). The restaurant is small but it didn't feel crowded. We never felt rushed or unwelcome, and we were there for a couple hours (longer than I realized; it took an unusually long time to make two reuben sandwiches). Their pastries are really nice but somewhat expensive, like the rest of the menu. It was a nice, sophisticated experience.

Well, debit and credit cards were accepted, with a $5 minimum. The place was rather small, but they had what we were looking for: various flavors of conchas and other typical pastries one would see a Mexican panaderia. Each concha was $0.80 (as of 06/23/2018). It was one of a few that had price listed. We picked out what four (4) conchas, two (2) fruit empanadas, two (2) peanut butter cookies, and a bottle of Pepsi for about $8. I really miss having a panaderia close by my house. I used to visit one frequently in my old neighborhood. Although I'm not from the south side, I can still count on "La-Concha" for a quick, economical snack whenever I end up in the area.

What I do like about it, however, is that the bakery items are "protected" by glass doors. Another bakery in the area has their cookies and pastries on open tables /shelves were you help yourself. You also help yourself here, but at least the bakery goods aren't out in the open. A couple of weeks ago I stopped in and bought a bear claw and a Mexican cakey-cookie (?). It only cost $1.23 for both items! Joslyn (not sure if I am spelling name correctly) was the clerk and she was very nice. I learned they also sell coffee. Unfortunately, both items were somewhat stale. Since it was only $1.23, I thought perhaps I bought them from a discounted day (or more) old section. I decided I would give them another try before writing this review. I stopped by again today. There was a different clerk, but she was nice also. I was looking at the doughnuts and she assured me they were fresh, so I decided to purchase one. It was 61¢. Not only was the doughnut fresh, it tasted really good. It was far better than any doughnut that I have gotten from Dunkin Donuts--l haven't gotten a fresh doughnut from them in about 25 years. And that is at any Dunkin Donuts. The only problem today was that I wish I would have been brave enough to buy more than one doughnut! It was really good. I will be back and hopefully will be bumping up the rating another star soon.
