Agua Fresca! Limón y Chia
Ana O.

El Sabor de Mexico- this review is a love letter A note about how your food invites me to the sweetest memories I have from Mexico. As a native New Yorker, and someone who frequents this spot when I'm in town, I can't let go of how good this food is. The small bites and fast food here is made so well. Sometimes I sit here and people watch. This spot brings together locals: kids on scooters/ bikes, elderly with newspapers who sit here for hours chatting up the owner or little ones yearning for their cool summer ice cream. It's a sweet touch to the already poppin' Pilsen community. Personally, I love the Agua de Limon y Chia the most. The flautas are crispy and legit, the elote en baso is *chefs kiss*. These staples are hard to mess up, but you wouldn't believe how many others truly do get it wrong. I hope you stay around forever- and if you're in town- please visit this spot. People watch with me.

If you're into Mexican ice cream and paletas this is the place for you. I personally tried a couple of flavors, but there is something different about Mexican ice cream and "American" ice cream that throws me off. So instead, I ordered an esquite since there was a sign that these were now available but this was very very runny. The corn tasted fine, but not quite an esquite, there was not much mayo, and while there were jalapeños for some spice, I would have liked the red chili that comes on these savory snacks. Maybe next time they will have perfected the esquite. The space has a couple of tables so might be a cool spot to hang out in the area. The two girls working were nice though. They do accept card, but just know that there is a little fee if the items you purchase are under $10. (I don't remember what the fee was).

This place is amazing. We walked by exactly when I craved ice cream. It was perfect. The service was perfect, the ice cream was perfect. My first time trying elote corn ice cream - so yumm. Rice with milk was extremely tasty, creamy but not too rich. Rum with raisins was my favorite. The cone was perfectly flavored and crunchy. I could have tried all of their ice cream flavors and rolled out. I highly highly recommend this place and would come back instantly!

I paid $13 for a small ice cream

I asked for a $5 ice cream, the lady offer me to change de cup, but she never said it will cost me more. I paid $13 for a small ice cream, no napkins, no restroom. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE

Service was great. Nice cozy dining area with reasonably priced food. I had two scoops of snickers and cookies ice cream for $5.46. I got to taste some homemade ice cream while listening to some nice hip hop music! Definitely will return.

i guess i walked in with expectation of some fancy local ethnic icecream place on this hot 94 degree Chicago day with the whole family in tow. As the kids and i walked in, some strange smell of cleaning supplies greeted us. i skeptically went ahead since i had to beg my husband to drive us there :) the long lines took another 15 minutes and then it was our turn. The kiddos got strawberry and lime bars and i got their famous yogurt with fruit. It was ok but not something i would go back for.

I had been here once before but since I didn't live in the area I had not come back until now and trust me this is going to be my place to come from now on, we just recently moved back to the area and the only other paleteria we had been too was La Michoacana on Blue Island but it is always packed and I think it's overrated and over priced but then again that's just me... So this time we had agua fresca de sandia, cheese fries, nieve de arroz con leche, nieve de cajeta and a nieve de limón so everything was sooo good but the ice cream OMG!!!! They where really really good anyone you try, they have a corn one and it was so good but the kiddos didn't want that one, they also have the corn on the cob(elote) with the flaming hot Cheetos on it don't know how it taste yet but that will be on my list... if you are in the area give this place a try you won't regret it

We're big chocolate lovers, so Chocolate Lover Fudge is usually our first choice, and we really like the Mint Bliss too. They had a Dark Chocolate flavor for a limited time that we loved, and I still wish they would bring it back! It's self-service, so we usually grab our chocolate, find a spot to sit, and just enjoy the Chicago River and city views. Honestly, sitting there with some chocolate and watching the city around you is part of the experience for us. It's a simple little tradition we have whenever we're in Chicago, and we always look forward to coming back.

The only thing outrageous is the satisfactory of sweetness in each item. Okay, so I have a sweet tooth. What can I say, I love desserts. Sorry, no pictures or a college essay. But it's Ghirardelli chocolate, you can hardly go wrong. Especially if you've decided to walk through the door with the anticipation of having some form of exceptional chocolate. Enough said.

And honestly, I think a stop here for all future visits to Wicker Park now rely on this condition being met! While the baked goods are where it is at, the smell alone was worth selling itself. After we got a few whiffs, we made out way to the counter and did the ole "Ill take that, and this, oh and that too..." and ended up with a wide variety of cookies, tarts, danishes and cakes. All of which were absolutely delightful! Out of our haul, the peanut butter cookie was the highlight for me, and the raspberry crumble bar was it for my partner. Everything in between was delish, but a few things definitely stood out! Service was stellar from entry to exit. They knew we were newbies, so they helped us pick the best of the best. The space is gorgeous, bright, welcoming and classic. They definitely let the baked goods be just as much a part of the decor as the actual artwork. Overall, I get it now...Mindy's was impressive in all the right ways and is certainly a staple for all Chicago trips in the future!

Both Bialays are a perfect savory treat!  I can't wait to come back and try more of the baked goods, especially the coffee cakes.
