    The Turtle Sundae

I've been here before when I was younger, but my boyfriend hasn't so I wanted to bring him. Immediately when we walked in, there was a gross and sour smell. The inside was humid as well, which I think made it stronger. I really wanted ice cream though, so we got on the waitlist for a table. Our waitress was very blunt. When she brought us the ice cream, she just dropped it on the table, turned around, and left. The ice cream itself was great. It was busy inside, so I think this is a place to just order and take your ice cream or food to go.

Perfectly perfect. The homemade caramel apples are better than anywhere in the city more crisp and fresh. The ice cream options are so creamy and old school it takes you back in time to childhood. Once you're inside calories don't exist.

This place is so legit. The ice cream is incredible. Vibes are 10/10 and everything is really affordable. Definitely be prepared to wait for 30-45 but so worth it.

It's really hard to mess up dessert. I mean, it's sugar. And, margie's didn't mess anything up. But, we weren't blown away. The nail in the coffin for me was when they unwrapped our cookie and popped it in a microwave. In any case, the interior is cool and you can certainly tell the big bright lights bring the tourists in. But, the product wasn't elite. We didn't even finish our sundae. The pricing was fair, and it tasted fine. I mean, it was an ice cream sundae with a cookie. But, the ice cream seemed like i could grab it from the grocery store. The workers were nice and working super hard given how busy it was. Props to them

Last stop on our food tour and it was worth the wait! We enjoyed delish hot fudge sundaes and they were so good. I am not a fudge person but their fudge was a good consistency and wasn't too bitter. It was perfectly bold and light on the palate. It was is adorable little ice cream parlor and I look forward to coming back

The hot fudge banana split was so good! We got pistachio, strawberry, and praline. we got there around nine/ten and it was about a 30 minute wait to be seated. The interior is pretty tight.

Absolutely in awe of this place. It's such an old -timey, old fashioned type of dessert parlor. Yes they're known for their iconic ice cream (sundaes, splits, specialties, etc) but they also have tons of other treats you can buy like chocolate covered Oreos, pretzel rods, marshmallows, etc. It is a small place inside so it can get tight and that's probably why there's sometime lines and a wait later in the day, especially on weekends. We got the jumbo turtle sundae which came with caramel, pecans, whipped cream, and their legendary fudge. I figured it was going to be a good sundae, but I did NOT think it would blow me away. This was DANG GOOD!!! Like, miraculously delicious. The fudge is the best thing I've ever tasted, plus they had the best caramel I've ever tried. I cannot wait to come here and try their other sundaes and splits!

Always such a nostalgic time at Margie's. Been coming here forever. Now that it's winter there isn't necessarily a line out the door but when I arrive just after 8 PM, the location was full, but it took a few minutes for my table. I ordered a turtle sundae with a side of banana and a wafer. The server was friendly and efficient. Now let's be honest. The portions are just ridiculous. There's no way that I myself could finish the turtle sundae in the giant shell dish that it is served in. There's other classics such as milkshakes, banana splits, and also a full food menu with other diner nostalgic Classics. I always get some candy/chocolate before I leave, which is usually the terrapin/turtles. They always have a decorated for specific holidays. Just a cute little place. Minutes walk from the western blue line stop- across from the McDonald's. So it's about 20 minutes out from the city. During warmer climate/season bring your patience as it can get busy and there could be a small crowd outside, but it's worth the wait.

Margie's Candies is a timeless gem. The old-school vibe, generous sundaes, and rich homemade hot fudge make it a must-visit. Their ice cream and candy are always fresh and delicious. A perfect spot for a sweet treat and a bit of nostalgia! The brownie Sundae was warmed to perfection and went along so well with the ice cream!

My friend found this place on instagram and really wanted to stop here during our trip and I'm glad we did. This is an old school candy and ice cream shop that's been open for over 100 years. Not sure if it's all locations or this specific one. It's a very small spot with just a few booths and it's pretty cramped on there. It was so packed with people when we came late at night. We got our names on the wait list and I think it was about 30 minutes before we got seated. As for the speed, I think after we ordered it was less than 10 minutes until we got our ice creams. Now let's be clear the ice cream isn't something to write home about. It's good but not especially creative or standoutish. What I really appreciated though was their portion size and that what we all ordered came with a cream wafer and a little gravy boat(?) of hot fudge. Had we not just had a big dinner and waited so long in between, I'm sure I would have happily finished the whole thing. In the center of the store, they have a large display case for all of their candies and chocolates. My friend ordered a bunch stuff to go. The only thing I really wanted was marzipan but unfortunately they didn't have any :(. Anyways, it's def a place worth checking out just for the nostalgia alone.

Well I'm not going to take any stars but I still support coming here to Margie's for their traditional banana split their cheeseburger that I ordered for $11.95 was just a meh ok the beef patty just didn't have that taste or flavor and despite having cheese and spending 95 cents more it just didn't win me but I don't want to take out stars because of certain other savory dishes as well as ice cream I've ordered. Service was quick and fast as usual so that doesn't deduct anything and ambience is as usual busy on a Friday night for dinner

I think it used to be called Tomoe Ame, but it's the same as ever, though it used to come with a tiny plastic or even metal toy, and now it comes with a toy tattoo. The candy is a lightly-flavored set-jelly candy, much like a Turkish Delight, and the inner wrapper right next to the candy is rice-paper that melts in your mouth! I think we used to shop down Wentworth south of Cermak, and there are still authentic restaurants and all kinds of shops there. Nowadays we mostly head to the Chinatown Square open-air mall. This time we stopped in the Ichiban Candy & Snacks store. They have so many kinds of sweets, and yes, Botan Ame! They sell a trendy new ice cream bar, Dubai Pistachio Chocolate Flavor! Inside a fairly thick chocolate shell, the filling is like skinny long bright green sprinkles! It's fun and unusual. Even better, while we were there (Nov 2025), if you bought over $35 of candy, (we did :-), the friendly staff gave out a free ice cream bar as a sample! We all got to taste it. Pretty good! They have good old White Rabbit candy, like a white taffy roll. They have unusual "Chinese flavors" of Lay's Potato Chips we got Cucumber, Lime, Peking Duck, Five Spice, and Wasabi. They also have cans of formed potato chips like pringles. Other than the spicy flavors and the wasabi, none really have the flavor in the name, but they are all interesting, and every one we tried went well with beer :-). You can never go wrong with various flavors of Kit Kat. We like the original Pocky sticks and the chocolate-filled Hello Panda cookies. And there is a vast assortment of by-the-pound hard candies and chewy candies. We stop in now and then just to refill our candy dishes :-)
